Gods, imagine if all of this is so Ed can win Izzy back. They're going on this adventure so that Izzy CAN stay with Ed without Ed hating himself
But during this adventure, it becomes more and more apparent that staying with Ed isn't good for Izzy. It isn't good for either of them
So at the very end, Izzy and Ed are watching the crew sail off and Izzy stares at them with a heavy heart, but is fully prepared to stay with Ed forever
But Ed says. "Go."
And Izzy looks at him, confused. This was all so they could be together, wasn't it?
But Ed says "This isn't the coat you gave me. You're not mine. Go to after them.'
And like the end of a cheesy movie, Izzy follows after the crew while Ed watches
I continue to rotate selkie!Izzy
Following on from a tiny Hot Potato I tossed back and forth with the wonderful @carrymelikeimcute...
Ed destroyed Izzy's coat during the Kraken era.
He regretted it So Fucking Much as soon as he started wanting to live rather than... trying to push Izzy and the others to kill him by abusing them as much as humanely possible.
But he still fucking destroyed it.
Izzy isn't going to leave him over this (even if Ed simultaneously thinks he should, for Izzy's sake; and can't bear to let him go). But there's this awful sadness when he looks at the sea now, and it makes Ed's stomach knot all the way up into his throat.
Buttons has the perfect solution. If Ed goes on a quest to find the real Goddess Calypso, she'll be able to give Izzy a new coat! So the Revenge crew sail away on a new mission, bound for Tia Dalma's grotto........
I just want semi-broken-up (but trying to fix things, but should absolutely go their separate ways) Edizzy having one last adventure together 🥺 I think I'd prefer it to end with them saying goodbye for good, with Ed waving to a happy chubkins seal who swims off into the bright horizon after the Revenge and her crew! Because they were Izzy's family, goddammit, and he deserved to stay with them.

i think there's something so mean about how, when S1 ended and GB broke up, izzy AND his fans were called abusers (among other, horrifying things), i closed all my anon asks and twitter/ig dms because of it. i came into the fandom when the season just ended, "this feels like coming home" i said, and got a death threat a few days later. "i just want izzy to be happy", and a dm saying "you don't belong here" arrived. i got dragged in a doxxing scare, someone i know did get doxxed. now S2 has ended and what we feel is a disservice to his character, on the road to recovery and healing after the horrors of episode 1-3 and a suicide survivor dealing with disability, he gets killed off unceremoniously because 'he has no more role in the narrative'? just when he found a family and belonging he could've sailed with? he could've been written out without dying, getting his own happy ending. instead, he got killed by a stray bullet, on an avoidable 'suicide mission' (had someone else taken his place). and with us being upset, suddenly we have no right to grieve and be sad about this? suddenly we have people laughing at us and downplaying how heartbroken we are? we saw him happy and at home, we just wanted to end the show with that, him alive and experiencing the world with family. i related to him so much, of course it hurts. a lot of izzy fans started the S3 renewal campaign because we wanted to think everyone would get their happy endings. it's so sad to think about the show now. it's been more than a year and i still love this character and the community he's brought me. he's gotten me through tough times and given me hope. let us have this, let us be sad and upset and speak our criticisms, for kindness sake, for the kindness the show used to promise us. the same way people whose ships get broken up on cliffhangers and tragic ends are upset, let us have this too. this is a public message, but you have nothing good to say, if you're here to downplay the hurt, if you're here to laugh, please just scroll on by or block.

There were two great posts about Izzy yesterday, and I would like to expand on and add my 2 ct to the things said in them a little. One, by @celluloidbroomcloset (with additions by several others), about how Izzy immediately falls back into old patterns of manipulative behaviour after his supposed redemption in 02x07, only this time with Stede as the focus of said behaviours instead of Ed. The other, by @batsarebetterthanpeople, about how Izzy's behaviour in 02x06 and onward is more akin to the development a homophobe coming around to a queer loved one, than an arc of queer self-discovery.
Izzy's story isn't about himself. I think this is the first, fundamental mistake people make when engaging with it. He's not a protagonist; he doesn't exist in the story for his own sake. So when ofmd asks "How to reform a toxic person? What does it look like and is it even possible?", the starting point isn't one of empathy with Izzy.
It's one of empathy with Ed. ofmd is asking these questions not because it wants to understand Izzy better. What it wants to explore is the possibility of Ed having the relationship with Izzy Ed wants. Whether Izzy can be brought around to understanding Ed's wants and needs, whether he can understand the hurt he caused him.
This is a fundamentally different approach to how these stories are usually told. Usually, we start out with the unspoken assumption that the toxic person is well-intentioned, good at heart, and whatever pain they caused our protagonist is more akin to a misunderstanding than deliberate harm. Yes, they may have have caused hurt, but if you just see things from their perspective, you'll understand that they only had your best interest in mind, and that will enable you to forgive them.
Obviously this can't not veer off into victim blaming. "The abuser had a good reason for what they did, and therefore, it's your own fault. Or at the very least not theirs."
ofmd fundamentally rejects this. It is very careful to never let the bullies and abusers have a valid point. Abusers are abusive because they get something out of it. To truly reform an abuser, they would have to be willing to build a life for themselves that is a lot less comfortable. Where they have to consider other's feelings, communicate and compromise, meet other people on equal footing, instead of putting themselves in a position of authority. It means letting go of patterns of behaviour that they have so far been quite successful with*.
And Izzy - tries. He is interesting because part of him clearly wants to leave the toxicity behind. He gets to see what positive relationships, human connection, being part of a community look like; he's offered an outstretched hand, and, after biting it a few times, tentatively starts to take it.
But he can't quite get there. The temptation to fall back into what he knows is too strong. celluloidbroomcloset's post linked above talks mainly about 02x07, so I'm not gonna repeat all that, but I'm going to add two little scenes from 02x06 that further cement this. In the beginning of the episode, Izzy finds Ed as he's standing on deck, watching the sea, and the conversation that plays out is a clear mirror to, almost repeat of the Frankfurter clouds scene from 01x04. Ed tries to share an observation with Izzy in an attempt to reach out to him ("Something's wrong. Feels like a storm's coming but I can't see it."), which Izzy, of course, immediately dismisses ("Or maybe you're just a mopey twat and there is no fucking storm").
The second scene is, when Izzy is the only one discouraging Ed from following Stede to his cabin after he kills Ned Lowe. Discouraging support, discouraging connection and emotional honesty; Izzy will continue to try to isolate Stede.
Now, I do not think this, or the things happening in 02x07, are put in there deliberately to show that Izzy has ulterior motives. Rather, they are an illustration of how deep these maladaptive patterns of behaviour go. Izzy isn't able to fully admit to himself the extend of the harm he caused and this is what prevents him from truly changing his behaviour - even when he has just experienced the benefits of a loving, supportive community!
All of this is the explanation to the answer the show gives to our starting question: Is it possible for Ed to have the relationship with Izzy that Ed wants? And the answer is: No. Just because growth is possible, doesn't mean it is enough. Doesn't mean anyone's entitled to forgiveness. Sometimes, the only compassionate thing to do, is to take yourself permanently out of the other person's life.
But Izzy did learn, and he did grow. It's just that the purpose of said growth wasn't to heal him; it was to enable him to understand the hurt he caused to Ed. That doesn't have to mean people like Izzy can never be reformed, it just means that this isn't a story about the reformation of a toxic person. It's the story of leaving this toxicity behind.
And this is why Izzy's heartfelt apology followed by his immediate death is a positive ending. It represents the conviction that no relationship is so broken it can't be mended, but also the assurance that no relationship is so important it can't be ended.
Ed gets to hear the things he needs to hear most - I am sorry, I was wrong, you didn't deserve this - and then Izzy disappears from his life, and with him, all the toxicity he represents.
They can part on good terms, but part they must. So Ed can go into the rest of his life, unburdened.
*read Lundy Bancroft's "Why does he do that", seriously. The whole thing is on archive.org.

“What kind of a moron gets shot…”
Tumblr media
Izzy x Reader
words: 1970
google docs pages: 3,5
warnings: blood, a gunshot wound, slight alcohol use
opening: A medic, you get shot in a crossfire. It’s only after things have settled a little that anyone has time to notice you. No one but you are used to removing bullets, so obviously the crew chose the next most experienced pirate to help you with your instructions. Izzy.
AN// Reader can be any gender! I finally started watching this series, after putting it off for so long and oh my god do I love this man more than life itself. I would die for him. Anyway, sorry if this is a little ooc, I’m learning how to write for him ! Requests for him would also be lovely, I have so many ideas that I don’t even know what to write :D
“What kind of a moron gets shot…”
The feeling of rain hitting your face kept you to your senses, additional moisture to the already wet wooden deck you were laying on. At least you had made it back, but that did not remove the fact that someone from the other ship had gotten a good shot at your thigh. For that reason, you didn't mind the wet fabric sticking to your skin. The waves of pain radiating from your thigh were enough to keep your mind from thinking of anything else.
Your body curled up a little, hands going to hold the place of the wound on their own, or at least that’s what it had felt like. Like your body was moving on its own. There wasn’t much of a thought process happening in your mind, though it felt like you should have known what to do. You’d removed more than one bullet in your time, and it wasn’t a rare procedure to perform for you. But never could have you guessed the amount of pain a bullet wound caused. You’d only ever helped someone else and seen them try their best to stay still for your sake. As much as you had hoped these thoughts would have distracted you from the pain, they didn’t. The pain was still raging, making you groan and grunt silently against the deck. Or at least what you thought had been quietly up until voices became audible around you. They’d been there before as well, but they’d become somehow louder by now. Like the people that sounded further away were now closer. The crew must have noticed something was wrong.
You opened your eyes, still curled up on the deck. Most of the crew were there, standing near you. From your perspective and what was left of your vision, they seemed concerned. But probably rightly so. Most of them had become quiet, only light chatter among them. “Well, fucking someone help me.” You growled, allowing the words to come out and going back to gritting your teeth straight after. The chatter got louder for a moment before someone was pushed out from the group. By the sound of his voice, you identified him quite easily. The first mate of Blackbeard’s, Izzy. He did not sound keen on doing this, insisting for someone else to do it before accepting his fate. But you and mostly everyone else in the crew seemed to agree on him being the most experienced for this, after you.
You knew their first idea would have been to just cut off the whole leg, but for the amount of times you’d helped them you were hoping they’d see this as owing it to you and actually helping.
Your vision was getting a little more blurry, not badly but enough to make things a lot more confusing. You tried to keep a straight head, knowing you’d have to assist Izzy while he got the bullet out. While these thoughts were running through your mind, two of the crew members of which you hadn’t seen who carried your form to the lower decks. No more of the rain, you thought. They cleared a table, and by the sound of it they must have just sweeped the items on it to the floor and placed you on the smooth surface instead.
There was a moment of silence before through your haze you could hear Izzy’s voice clearly. “Well, fuck off? No need for an audience.” He said, and by the sound of it the people previously there made their way back up. “Cut the…the pant leg.” You said, not wanting to waste any more time. Izzy looked at you, doing as you said but with slight hesitation. “How does a medic manage to get shot?” The first man asked in a voice you wanted to believe was annoyance, trying not to find a hint of worry from his voice. You didn’t want to imagine a man worried for your life trying to save it. “Guess the bullets couldn’t resist a…a checkup.” You took a quick breath, gritting your teeth as the fabric was pulled off from over the wound. Izzy didn’t say anything to that, perhaps it had been a bad time to joke either way. You didn’t have time to waste, for anything from the bullet could leak to your bloodstream if you kept stalling. “T-take off yer belt-” You had to take a breather before continuing, but that was enough for Izzy to give you a dirty look, which you were glad you couldn’t see properly through the slight blur. “And wrap it a little higher from the wound…” You finished the sentence, trying to stay still on the table. “Gathered that much.” He said, voice still stern as he undid his belt and wrapped it tightly around your thigh. “Get yer knife…and dig..dig the bastard out.” You breathed out, closing your eyes for a moment as you braced yourself for what was about to come.
The sound of Izzy taking out a knife from his belt opened your eyes once more. You took a weak hold of his wrist before the first mate was able to start the process. “If I lose consciousness after…take the fabric you removed and..and use it to close up the wound after cleaning with rum…” You instructed him before your hand let loose from his wrist. His eyes were on you, you could feel it. Yet, he did not say a word. It worried you, but you didn’t want to tell him that. You wanted to think that he didn’t care. As many times as you had spent time with him, he did not care for you. Maybe, just maybe, he enjoyed talking to you from time to time.
You took a hold of the edge of the table, which was worth it. Because as soon as Izzy had dug the knife into the wound you screeched. Using the palm of your hand to cover the rest of the horrendous noises leaving you, feeling hot tears push their way through and fall down the sides of your face. The gritting of your teeth helped, somewhat. The feeling of the blade hitting the bullet sent a mix of shivers along with waves of pain through your body.
You tolerated it for a while, in a way proud of yourself for that, this being the first time a bullet was being removed from you. Though, that did not last long.
The dim lights in the lower deck began to seem darker, and your body wasn’t contorting itself the same way as before. In a way you felt more relaxed this way, though the darkness that had started to slowly surround you was something you didn’t look forward to. A faint sound of the bullet hitting the wooden flooring as the knife left your body was the last thing you heard. Your consciousness faded away, leaving Izzy alone with bloodied hands and a mess on the table.
His gaze shook a little, but he stood still at the table. Thanking whoever had left a bottle of rum in the lower deck. Izzy took a hold of the brown bottle and took a swig from it himself. With a second to think, he poured the liquid from the bottle straight onto the wound. It felt odd not to hear you instruct him, not that he needed it anymore. But you being so silent, seemingly dead to anyone else's eye who might have walked past, it shook him a little. As many people as he had killed and seen dead, none of them had affected him this way. The thoughts of your death filled his mind for a brief second, before the first mate shook them away. He wasn’t sure how much to pour, stopping eventually. He thought you might like the rest of it once you woke up. In his experience, rum was good at numbing feelings. Just what pain was, only a feeling.
Izzy wrapped the wound best he could, leaving the belt on. You hadn’t told him what to do with it after, and that had only now occurred to him. As much as his duties would have commanded for him to leave you with the rest of the crew, he did not want for you to wake up in the noise and smell that was the crew’s quarters. Was what he told himself, not being able to ask for your opinion.
He might have not been the tallest man on deck, but that did not mean he was weak in any way. He picked you up easily, carrying you to his quarters. Barely a spot for sleeping fit there, but he managed.
The first mate laid your still form onto the small bed, seating himself onto a box next to it. His eyes stayed on the bed for some time before a sigh left his lungs, turning his eyes to his hands. He placed them over his face for a while, the burning feeling of tears trying to push through all too familiar at this point. They never truly fell down, so it did not count as crying for him. A pirate didn't cry.
So he sat there, the held-back tears reddening his eyes a little as he leaned on the wall behind him and stared at the other in front of him, keeping his gaze up. He felt conflicted, more so than usual. He hadn’t thought of you, not of how much he seemed to care. Sure, the two of you had spent an odd amount of time together, but you preferred to be alone or at least at the sidelines, so did he. So, for long it had been a coincidence that you bumped in together. And during those times you spent together were almost enough to make him feel alive again. But when you didn’t, was when he truly felt lonely. And so he did now, now when you were unconscious. A sharp breath drawn by you caught his attention back. The end of it started sounding more like a hiss than anything else. Your eyes tried to open slowly, but the sheering pain forced them to snap open with yet another hiss. You curled up on the bed before your eyes landed on Izzy. His mouth was slightly agape, but soon realised to hand you the bottle from earlier which you gladly accepted. After a long swig you handed it back to him, hand shaking ever so slightly. Eyes focusing on him now, vision back to what you remembered as normal. Even with Izzy keeping his gaze quite low, you could see the slight tint of red in his eyes. The first mate hadn’t said anything yet, so you decided to break the silence. “Have you been crying?” Came out rustier than intended, but the teasing tone of voice was still clear somewhere in there. Izzy’s jaw tightened, but he must have backed away from what he wanted to say. “Sod off.” He looked away for a moment, expression much softer after from what you could tell. Though, he seemed stiff. Like he was shaken in a way you’d never seen him before. “Izzy-” You sighed, not sure what to say to him, so instead you thought of something else. His other hand was resting on the edge of the bed. Expecting him to pull away at the very least, you placed your hand on his, but he didn’t. He allowed your slightly warmer, shaky palm to warm his colder hand, badly wiped away blood dried on it. “Thank you.” You said silently, not to disturb the oddly peaceful silence that had formed from the slightest of connections. Izzy turned to you, moving his hand further on the bed, not adding anything to that. The touch was a thank you enough, more than enough to him.

2x08 Reaction #7
Ok, last episode thing in this series I've finally circled around to being pissed about is framing Izzy as a mentor to Edward.
Because what the fuck.
When they had Stede do the whole "taught him everything he knows" bit in 2x05 I thought it was pure flattery, to the point I thought it was wild that Izzy even gave a little shrug like he might believe it. I thought we had established pretty clearly in S1 that Edward was the creative thinker and leader in their dynamic.
Izzy was useful - probably even essential - but he was the support. The tool. Good at the execution.
And he certainly seemed to know this. In 1x04 where they establish their pre-Stede dynamic, Izzy expects Edward to come up with a brilliant plan and tell him what to do. He only doubts him enough to try and take charge at the last possible second, seems mostly aware his own idea is "get shot fighting back instead of sitting and dying", and feels genuine regret for both having to shoot down Edward's first plan and insulting him at all once he saves them in the end.
Because Edward is brilliant. He's earned his place as the leader between them. As Blackbeard.
Which makes it absolutely infuriating that in pivoting him into a "wise mentor" role they have Ricky say to Izzy's face that he was the brains behind Blackbeard and Izzy doesn't even refute it??? Paired with killing him off as the mentor (supposedly), and paralleling him to Auntie as they really double down on the "mentor who has authority over strategy and is proud of you" thing, and the displays of respect in 2x07... it kinda feels like the show is saying Edward learned most or all of his shit from Izzy.
And, like... if they just meant swordfighting and getting an approving nod when he pulled off a complicated disarm that would be one thing, but they kept focusing on things like "brains of the operation" and "how to lead the crew as a Captain" lessons.
And Edward is so much less interesting if Izzy actually taught him how to be Blackbeard, or if he was doing things as Blackbeard for Izzy's approval.
Like I guess I'm glad they didn't flesh it out enough to make the implications fully textual so you can fudge them away from that direction, but they don't really tell you not to read it that way. The man is even giving emotional development advice for fuck's sake. The mentor thing is jarring enough because the authority and respect dynamic really never flowed in Izzy's direction, but it's also putting Izzy in a position where I feel like they are implying he made Edward the man he was for better and worse, and... no. Don't do that.
Stop giving Edward's anxiety-ridden henchman credit for his atrocities - he worked hard on those.
(Plus we literally already know the first authoritative figure in piracy he got round two of Daddy Issues and his fucked up ideas about piracy from. How many symbolic fathers pushing him in dark directions does one man need to kill / be visited by in purgatory / watch die before he can start addressing those???)

post-canon Stizzy concept: Izzy showing up at the inn like a year later (maybe he never got gut-shot . I like the idea that he faked his death). Ed is gone, having gotten bored enough to have himself another little menty b and has fucked off to follow a new whim, some new life path that Stede had no interest in walking. (so they broke up. Again.) Stede is now running more of a boarding house instead of an inn because of course those two losers chose a rundown shack in a sparsely populated area that does not have enough people passing through to sustain an inn. Stede’s kinda quietly surviving, doing an okay job of it, and convincing himself that it’s the right place for him because obviously his grand adventures at sea didn’t work out for him so it’s time to stop dreaming big. A monotonous existence isn’t so bad, really… is it? At least he isn’t leaving dead bodies in his wake anymore. (Yeah… he is doing Not Good)
Izzy has to convince Stede that he’s not useless. That he’s actually, sigh, a pretty good Captain by certain standards. Imagine Izzy trying to walk the line between his own stoic reticence, and actually saying nice encouraging things to the man that he hasn’t hated in a long time but is still so used to insulting. Izzy wasn’t even good at hyping up Ed who he legitimately adored admired. But fucks sake, he can’t let Stede just spiral into hopelessness, bury himself alive on land when Izzy knows that Stede has a sailor’s soul (even if he knows piss-all about proper sailing).
So Izzy stays at the boarding house. Maybe it’s fully booked because it’s tiny and can’t possibly have more than like a couple rooms, so Izzy has to stay with Stede. (#onlyonebed) In classic Stede fashion Stede does not ever talk out his problems and actively avoids the subject when Izzy tries to… so Izzy has to move slowly to gain Stede’s trust and bring the man out of himself. He helps out around the place (quietly doing the chores Ed used to bitch loudly about), supports Stede in his interactions with other people, even is actually polite to the other guests when Stede asks him not to scare anyone off. (Izzy wishes he had thought of that. If he had just scared ppl off immediately it would be easier to convince Stede to leave an empty ‘inn’). They spend many an evening in each other’s company, and obviously they talk. Bonner isn’t going to shut up entirely, even if he won’t talk about what matters. They get to know each other really well actually. Stede never felt a need to impress Izzy the way he was desperate to impress the famous Blackbeard. and Izzy isn’t like Ed, he doesn’t mold his personality to the people he is with, so he doesn’t share Ed’s insecurity about being liked or disliked for his real self. So there’s really no reason for either of them to hold back or hide anything. Neither of them could have guessed how easy it was, how comfortable they were able to be with each other. How well they mesh when they don’t have the task of managing Ed or the pressures of surviving a sea-faring life to get between them.
Also this mildly-depressed-Stede has let his beard and hair grow out and that really does something for Izzy.

I'm going to add onto my little au by mixing in another idea. Having Eva on the cast instead of Owen.
Owen had been dumbed down severely during this season. He had no plot other than being a comedic relief, and his relationship with Izzy. He never did anything when Noah, his BEST FRIEND, warned him of Alejandro. (Only making a few comments here and there, but never acting to try and eliminate Alejandro). Two, Eva deserves to be in this season, the girl stayed back with the group initially, but the writers never put her in the cast. She was entirely robbed and had potential to be a more fleshed out character with her friendship with Team Escope. Plus, we never got a proper conclusion to the Eva/Bridgette one-sided rivalry that was shown in Island. (In my opinion). They're an endless possibility when it comes to the characterization of Eva, whereas Owen already is his own person.
Even with Eva being in the cast, you could probably say Noah argued that going into the pyramid would be easier due to his and Izzy's intelligence. Canonically, Eva has been doing better with her temper with the help of her friends, so this could be a scene that reflects that. Show her loyalty and prove how much she's changed after gaining her odd set of friends. Which means Izzy would never be lost and the trio would exit the pyramid after Alejandro and the girls, but before Tyler. (For the sake of plot convenience).
With Heather on Team One, only one girl would be sent there while Alejandro and the second girl would be placed on Team Two. Which, of course, will be Lindsay with Team 1 and Bridgette with Alejandro and Escope. Which will change the entire dynamic of how Team 2 functioned in the Canon version as Alejandro is in a position that places him on the chopping block if things go south.
Plus, we get to see Bridgette and Eva interact outside of the whole "backstabber" thing in s1.
The idea is still a work in progress as I'm starting to map out (vaguely) how each episode could go down and etc etc

How firmly do you believe in Noah's ability to copy voices?
I have seen people make him be able to copy other contestants voices and mimicking them to a point it feels uncanny to the other contestants.
My point? P! Noah would definitely use that to his advantage. I just think that was a cool concept so here. :)
Anon I need you to understand that I've already used that exact concept in one of my fics. Like, it was an integral part of the first chapter of said fic. (And one that I regret not using more, since it's such a fun concept to play with. My drafts are full of different scenarios using this exact premise.)
I believe whole-heartedly in giving Noah weird party trick abilities and other "obscure" talents like vocal mimicry - but only when he uses them in the most unhelpful ways possible.
Mostly because he's kind of lacking when it comes to his viability as a contestant in the show; most of his competitors are either physically gifted to make up for their mental/emotional shortcomings (i.e. Eva, Izzy, Courtney, Sierra, ect.), intentionally or unintentionally adept at playing the social aspect of the game (Alejandro, Justin kind of, Owen, Lindsay, ect), or have some sort of character gimmick that benefits them in the competition (Harold's... Harold-ness, Izzy's wildcard energy). Noah doesn't have that. It's actually kind of impressive just how useless Noah is in terms of the competition, since he's supposed to be one of the smartest characters in the show but his slothful nature prevents him from actually utilizing this.
My answer? Have Noah use that big brain of his to develop and cultivate weird talents that end up being somewhat useful. Like the ability to mimic voices. And his canonical hacking abilities that he never uses in the main series.
In terms of p!Noah, I'm actually on the fence on giving him the same ability. Mostly because he's already got both canon Noah's smarts and the physical prowess to make him a competitive threat, even if he still maintains the same apathy towards the competition itself. He isn't really focused on winning the competition itself, but his innate skillset makes him a pretty big threat regardless, especially if he ever decides to shift his focus from self entertainment to trying to win. Giving him extra abilities on top of his established skillset just seems like overkill.
But. One of the core aspects of p!Noah's character is his prankster-type nature, which is mostly a result of him trying to stave off his perpetual boredom by pulling pranks and jokes on his competitors. In very much the same vein that canon Noah throws jabs and barbed comments at his castmates, p!Noah instead plots and schemes different ways to make them suffer for his entertainment (whilst also throwing out jabs an barbed comments). It wouldn't exactly be out of character for him to commit himself to learning how to copy voices just for the sake of tormenting people.
Especially if he's using said talent before the "reveal".
Could you imagine the kind of shit p!Noah could stir just by using someone else's voice? He's got the same unnoteworthy background character benefits as canon Noah for the first season- barring Izzy's immediate attention as a fellow person of flimsy sanity- so he'd be able to blend seamlessly into the background and gather information on the more vocal campers, stuff he'd easily be able to twist and recontextualise in the earshot of others; for his own benefit, sure, but p!Noah wouldn't care about using this for his own standing in the game so much as his own amusement.
It'd be more in character for him to use Gwen's voice to make an off-handed comment about how he thinks guys who play guitar are "trying too hard" or something, coincidentally when Trent himself is near enough to overhear, just to watch their will-they-won't-they song and dance crumble under the strain of Trent's insecurity. (Which could either help or hinder Heather's later stunt, which takes advantage of that same insecurity.)
There's a nearly endless well of opportunity when it comes to fucking around with vocal mimicry and p!Noah would cherish that fact.
Or maybe he'd wait for Heather and Leshawna to get into another argument during one of the Gopher's challenges, more specifically for them to end an argument and walk away from each other in a huff, only to chime in with Heather's voice,
"Ugh, what a bitch."
Just loud enough for the two of them to hear and consequently react to; Leshawna, of course, with reignited outrage and Heather with gobsmacked confusion. Leshawna would immediately confront Heather about the comment, and only get more mad when Heather denies saying it- despite it being in her voice. Meanwhile, Noah watches the two of them taunt each other into a bigger confrontation with the added benefit of the rest of their team scrambling to diffuse the situation (and get back on task for whatever challenge they're supposed to be doing).

I am fascinated by just how impossibility romantic Izzy is. Like in the way he knows how to be (which is not in a healthy way)
To him, romance is possession. It's loyalty. It's the willingness to defend the one you love and attack at their command. This twisted idea of love has formed so much of who Izzy is
The scene where Izzy is planning on leaving, is packing up the dinghy to leave Ed to have Stede fucking FASCINATES me. It's the perfect "if you love them, let them go" idea. Izzy was bitching to Ed earlier, threatening to resign, but it's clear he didn't mean it. He even says as much! But he holds himself to his word because he thinks that's what Ed wants. He thinks Ed wants Stede, not him. Izzy was fully prepared to leave. To leave Ed to his happiness
But Ed stops him. Whispers those sweet words in his ear. The idea that Izzy can stay, that he can be captain once Ed fucks off. That manipulation that makes Izzy smile and look at Ed like he's his whole fucking world. "You've still got it," he says
He's constantly trying to be his idea of romantic. He's attacking others who he feels like are disrespecting Ed, snapping at Stede's crew for calling him "Ed" instead of "Blackbeard", demanding that he's treated with respect. Because that's what love is, right? That's what Ed deserves?
He's so wrapped up in his own ideas of what Ed needs, what he deserves, what he should do to help him, that he doesn't stop and consider what Ed actually WANTS. It must be Stede dragging Ed down, so Izzy has to get rid of him. No matter what it takes. Because Ed can't WANT this... right?
I genuinely think Izzy believes going to the British to kill Stede - forming an alliance with his worst enemy for the sake of the man he loves - was a romantic gesture. That's his version of running to the airport to stop his lover from getting on the plane. It's something grand, something that betrays so much of what he is, but he does it for Ed
Of course, it's NOT romantic. It's fucked up and awful and selfish, but I don't think Izzy grasps that. And it's fascinating to me. His devotion to Ed, his love for him. The way he believes he's doing what he needs... I think he's fascinating

What to Expect When You're Not Expecting (Fang/Izzy, pregnancy fantasy)
Prompt: 100 words of getting him pregnant
“I wish you could knock me up,” Fang said.
This was what Izzy got for lounging about after a fuck like he hadn’t a care in the fucking world. It was too easy to wind up like this, loose-limbed and cock-drunk, his sweat-soaked hair rubbing against Fang’s belly. Izzy had to use him as a pillow—or so he told himself—’cos the bed was narrow as a virgin’s arsehole. No room for two unless you piled atop each other like this. God only knew how some aboard managed their little fuck-arounds.
He couldn’t run away from whatever the hell fancy Fang was spinning for himself. His leg was halfway across the room, swaddled up cozy in a blanket.
Bit like it was the babe Fang was apparently after. Izzy gave it a look like it had betrayed him, playing along with all this.
He didn’t know why his hand found its way to Fang’s belly too, resting there in front of his eyes.
“Well, I can’t,” Izzy said. It came out blustery somehow, indignant and spitty and riled-up, like he was months back, talking to a peacocking Spriggs. “Have Roach explain it to you, if you’ve gone this long without—”
“I know how it works, boss.” Fang patted his stomach. His hand fell to the side of Izzy’s at first and then, almost shyly, straight on it. “Got nowhere to put it. But if you could.”
If he could. If he could, he’d still be a one-legged pirate past his prime, sailing on a ship where the crew was already vulnerable and downy enough without adding an infant in the mix. He had enough to take care of already. He had a child, he’d wind up throwing himself in the fucking sea.
But he remembered Calypso’s Birthday—the sweep of gold glitter above his eyes, the cloud-pale shimmer, his painted lips against a goddess’s hand. No one had come right out and said he wasn’t pretty, that it was all just paint and pretend. Fang had draped a chain of flowers around his neck. There were times and places when the world this lot believed in wouldn’t die straight-out like a hothouse bloom in the cold.
Nothing cold and brisk about the times he shared his bed with Fang.
They weren’t talking about a real child that would bawl its fucking head off and shit its drawers and deserve more than Izzy could give it. They weren’t, he realized with a hot wash of something, even talking about it getting born at all. Fang would be good at it, having a little one, but that wasn’t what this was bout. Just Fang carrying it. Just Izzy putting it in him.
“You’d swell up,” Izzy said. “Have to loosen your leathers.”
“Ooh,” Fang said happily. “You’re right, Izzy. And they say your feet swell up too. Would you rub them for me? My little tootsies?”
“Christ. I’d have to, or I’d never hear the end of it. Bonnet would probably hold a fucking intervention. Because they’d know—” What he was trying to get out was too big and jagged, like he couldn’t force the words from his throat. But he did anyway—for his own sake, this time. “Because they’d all know it was mine. Ours. Wouldn’t they?”
“Of course they would.” Fang sounded almost scandalized by any threat to his imaginary fucking child’s legitimacy. “We’d tell them. ‘Izzy and I are having a baby.’ Bet there’d be cake. And Pete could make a crib for it—”
“It’s my fucking firstborn, I’ll make it a crib.”
“—and Wee John could knit it little booties—”
“I can feel it,” Izzy said, spreading his fingers out on Fang’s belly, a starfish on the shore he could really call home. “Kicking. Can’t you?”
Fang wriggled under his touch, pink-cheeked and pleased as anything. “They say that’s a good sign,” he said, and he took his hand off Izzy’s and put it on Izzy’s cheek instead, turning Izzy’s head up to look at him. “When you can feel it like this. Means, you know, that it’s healthy.”
First healthy fucking thing he ever had a part of, then.
“Good,” Izzy said. He swallowed. “I suppose I’ll do my best to take care of you both, then, so it stays that way.”
He kept his hand where it was. It rose and fell with Fang’s belly as he breathed. A sign of life against his palm. A sheltered little hothouse bloom that could thrive so long as he stayed cupped over it.

I’ve seen a lot of posts circulating recently about Izzy’s death being problematic in ofmd because they’re “burying our gays” or how killing him off is bad bc he’s a canonically disabled old man gay who’s survived a suicide attempt.
I think all of those things are really really important in a character but the take that his death is problematic because they killed off a character like that is SUCH an objectively bad and harmful take.
There’s a long long history of media having a “diversity” character only to kill them off because they want the points for having had said diversity character and they don’t really care to try to really have a diversity character.
First of all, this idea doesn’t really work with ofmd, because almost the entire cast of characters is diverse. seriously, there’s a lot of representation in ofmd that you can’t really see anywhere else and not a one of those characters just exists for diversity’s sake. they all have a character to them and a purpose in the story and a part in the family of the crew as a large. Izzy is a diverse character, which is an extremely important thing! i’m not saying that the specifics of what makes his character diverse makes him less important or anything of the sort in comparison to other characters, just that nearly every character in ofmd is a diverse character. he’s special because he’s his own character (w his own story and arc and etc) not because he’s diverse.
Second, arguing that a character shouldn’t die for the sake of their diversity is… harmful to the idea of diversity. The point of having diversity in shows is to show that those people exist, they’re real people. They’re not some strange far off idea of a person you’ll never meet. Those people are real, they exist, and it’s normal. They’re NORMAL. By saying that a character should be unable to be killed off solely for the sake of their diversity, you’re separating them from the non-diversity characters instead of integrating and normalizing the idea that diverse people are just people like everybody else. You’re OTHERING the diverse characters again. You’ve reached a point so far in activism you’ve reinvented the exact thing you were trying to avoid and separated minorities from “regular” people again.
TLDR:
• Killing a character because they’re diverse and you don’t want to deal w it = bad
• Killing a character that happens to be diverse because a character is going to die = not bad. Normal. because they’re a normal person and normal people die.

=============================
'I have this thing where I get older but just never wiser.'
The silence was worse than the screams, he concluded, as he stared with troubled eyes at the still full rum bottle. His usual go-to method was drinking his problems away, and yet, this time, he could not even bring himself to bring the bottle to his lips. He knew the taste well. Knew the satisfying burn it would bring, as it slipped down his throat. Hurtful enough to numb to myriad of emotion that swelled and sloshed within him. Still, not a drop entered his bloodstream. Aside from the one glass he had shared with Edward, Izzy Hands was completely sober. Gods, it was tortuous.
'Midnights become my afternoons.'
Just a small sip. It did not even have to be the full bottle! Despite every fibre of his being screaming at him to partake in a drink, something deep within Izzy's consciousness willed him to remain alert. For once, it was not for the sake of the crew that he remained vigilant, as he so often did on moonlit nights upon the ocean waves, when he should have been fast asleep in his cabin. What could he say? He did not explicitly trust Stede fucking Bonnet's merry band of twats. On more than one occasion, he had discovered the nightwatch snoozing, instead of scanning the horizon. They had improved as a crew, no doubt about it but they still lacked the discipline of their more professional counterparts.
'When my depression works the graveyard shift.'
No, no, Izzy did not allow himself to succumb to his usual whim of finding solace in the amber liquid. He wanted his senses to stay sharp, not hazy with a rum-induced stupor. There was no horizon to watch, no threat of the British, no fairies- gods, the crew were obsessed with fucking fairies- to check for under Frenchie's bed each night. No, what Izzy was bracing himself for, was the eventual knock at his door.
'All of the people I've ghosted stand there in the room.'
Who would they send? Maybe Edward? Surely, not Bonnet. No, he would have his hands full consoling the rest of the crew. He could almost hear the sounds now, the wailing. The tears. The general cacophony of desperation. It would undoubtedly haunt him until the end of his days. On the quietest of nights,  when the crashing of waves were not loud enough to drown his demons, Izzy was sure the echo of grief would reverberate through his mind, forcing him to relive the moment his life came crashing down around him.
'I should not be left to my own devices.'
The silver-haired pirate had not been present when the crew had found you in the hold. It had only been after saving Pete from a the fearsome waves of Poseiden's wrath, that Izzy had stumbled below deck- water-logged and desperate to see you again. That was when he had heard the commotion and followed the sound of Bonnet's surprisingly commanding voice.
There had been so much blood. Too much blood. Izzy had seen enough gore in his lifetime. Hell, he had had to keep his own guys from spilling out of his body on more than one occasion. Heh, he would never forget the look of fear on Edward's face, when the First Mate had almost bled out there and then on the deck of the Queen Anne's Revenge. But the incident in the storage hold was a completely different matter. It was your- well, a mixture of yours and Frenchie's- blood, that had stained the flooring of the ship. Your blood that had drenched Stede fucking Bonnet's fucking linen shirt.
'They come with prices and vices.'
Gods, just the memory of it made him want to hurl. This, this is why he usually drank. With alcohol in his system, Izzy would be able to suppress the unwanted memories, even just for a short while. But no, no! He had to keep his wits about him. He had to! If...
Fuck, please let it be an 'if' and not a 'when', he begged to every, single deity he could think of in that moment. If you succumbed to your injuries, he wanted to hear the née stone cold sober. He did not want to booze to take the edge off the inevitable heartache he would feel, knowing you had died without knowing you were loved. By the grace of Calypso, that man adored every inch of your very being. Mind, body and soul.
'I end up in crisis (tale as old as time).'
He should have been there, he cursed himself. Guilt eating him alive from the inside out. He should have been there to keep you safe. Or at least, he should have been the one to find you. To patch up your wounds, keep you conscious until they reached dry land. Oh, how he would have forgone all his usual composure. Without hesitation, you would have been bundled in his arms, anything to keep you warm enough to stave off the chill that came with blood loss. Izzy would have kept you close, as he coxed you to stay awake for him. He did not care if the crew thought him gone soft. In that moment, he would had indulged you in your every whin, if it meant you keeping your eyes open for him. Hell, he would have sung you every melody under the sun, if you so wished it.
'I wake up screaming from dreaming.'
But no, it had been Spriggs of all people, who had been the one to discover you. Gods, Izzy might have held a particular contempt for the young man but in that moment, he had been glad that the Scribe had been the one to find you. Though the First Mate would never admit it aloud, Spriggs was one of the more competent pirates aboard the Revenge, he had done well alerting those below deck of your predicament. Hell, he had made a good call fetching Bonnet, of all people. Stede fucking Bonnet.
Izzy almost felt indebted to the twat for the way he had managed to stem your wound and stopped you from bleeding out there in the hold. He had even gotten Frenchie stable enough to survive the rest of the storm. Whether the man lived or died now was purely dependant on the doctor's skillset.
It did not matter. Nome of it mattered. The past could not be changed. All Izzy had was the present and all he cared about, was if you too had a future.
'One day I'll watch as you're leaving.'
And then it came. The dreaded knock on the door. The resounding thuds turned Izzy's blood to ice. He was not ready- he would never be ready- to face whatever news awaited him beyond the thin piece of wood. The chorus of cries has not begun to fill the air yet. Perhaps he would be the first to be told. Maybe they were breaking the news to everyone individually, to allow a gradual wave of anguish to sweep through the crew, as opposed to a sudden, blunt force inducement of suffering.
'Cause you got tired of my scheming.'
Ambling over to the door, Izzy knew it was only a matter of time before the truth would out. No matter how much he tried to keep the news at bay. Oh, how the silver-haired pirate wanted to ruminate in the pre-grief a little longer. To play pretend and lie to himself some more. To convince himself that you were still alive. That your heart still beat it's steady rhythm. A song he knew so intimately. But Israel Hands was a self-described realist. He could not continue to entrench himself in fictional delusions, it was time for him to face the heartbreak dead on. To be brave one more time. He could not love you in this lifetime. However, he could treat your death with the respect it deserved.
'(For the last time)'
So, he braced himself for the teary face of his messenger. Prepared himself to hear the voice break and the words, "they're gone." Izzy said a silent goodbye to the technicolour world because without your vibrancy, it would surely fade to grey in a matter of moments. Despite all his efforts to steel himself against the worst, nothing could have prepared Izzy for what happened next.
'It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me.'

Lucius making me weep like a baby in my own fic
TW: mention of suicidal ideation and past canonical abuse
Lucius mashes his cigarette out on the barrel against which he leans. “Listen to me, Edward Teach,” he spits, and – oh, Stede’s never heard him so livid. Not even when Izzy had stranded him on the barnacle-scraping swing for an entire day, and told him he could only return to deck once he’d filled a bucket with the little blighters; and no, Pete couldn’t come join him and see to what alternate uses the swing could be put. “That awful, angry, skrunkly little man is in love with you. Ardently. Desperately. Unhealthily.”
Ed glowers at his boots. “Yeah, well,” he mutters. “He shouldn’t be. Not after everything I did –“
“I couldn’t agree more! It’s frankly offensive when…” Lucius gestures down at himself with the cigarette’s ash-dripping tip. “All of this is right here, ready for action, free of memories of traumatic toe-mutilation. I would fuck that old man in a heartbeat, if he wasn’t so hung up on you.”
“Hot,” says Pete, approvingly running a hand down his husband’s back. Nods from the crew suggest they concur.
“But,” continues Lucius, glare never leaving Ed, “who he loves is not a decision you get to make for him. In fact, I’d say you’ve lost your decision-making privileges over Izzy for quite some time.” He steps closer to Ed than he’s dared come in six months, making him go cross-eyed as he jabs the cigarette at his nose. “Don’t you think that you owe him better than suicide? I mean – for fuck’s sake. Dying for each other is, like, so 1623. If you truly want to start repairing your relationship, maybe try living for him instead?”

thoughts on ed forgetting about the talent show VS stede forgetting his duel with izzy
i can’t say anything about the literal, medical reasonings behind this, but, narratively speaking, both ed and stede black out and don’t remember doing the things they’ve been told their whole lives they can’t.
for stede, it’s being strong and brave and handling himself in a fight. for ed, it’s being vulnerable and wearing fine things and indulging in frivolity just for the sake of doing so. they don’t have the belief in themselves that they deserve those things and are blinded to the possibility that they could, so their minds don’t let them remember the instances that prove that they are.
while in those states of disassociation, they don’t necessarily “forget” themselves, but they tend to lean away from their previous instincts.
stede hits nigel with the paperweight without thinking of any repercussions and, instead of worrying about his lack of skill in the duel with izzy, uses his environment to his advantage by throwing gunpowder in izzy’s face as a distraction. ed doesn’t think about his image or reputation while singing for the crew and doesn’t think about the implications of him publicly correcting his first-mate over his name, which isn’t something he seemed to care about before (because he is blackbeard).
the differences between those examples from season 1 and what we’re seeing now in season 2 is that they’re both being deliberate about these choices rather than using them as coping mechanisms or whims AND they’re asking for, and receiving help (albeit a bit grudgingly), from their community.
they’ve allowed themselves to open up to the hope that they CAN be soft and vulnerable and brave and strong all at once and don’t have to sacrifice the things that makes them their own individuals. they’re learning that they don’t have to work in such extremes all the time and can just meet their own selves somewhere in the middle, and then, by extension, each other.

Desecration of souls Wednesday prompt? how is Alec's relationship with Izzy and Jace?
i hope this explains a bit of how it is
~ lumine
-
Alec sighs and forces his mouth into a smirk instead of a scowl as Izzy and Jace return to him. They’re both bright eyed and grinning at him with bloodied smiles… the evidence of their ignored orders.
“Put them in isolation rooms when they’re done. Make sure they clean their own weapons first.” Alec says with a sigh, because he’d been trained by both Maryse and his mama.
Izzy and Jace are the closest he has to true companions in this realm… but they still lack so much. It’s been made clear now, when they’ve jeopardized such a crucial mission for the sake a few more demons under their belt. The actual objective they were asked to reach, they failed.
Alec wants his mama to be able to hold him more than anything — these days when he’s constantly reminded how alone he is — but he can’t.
Jonathon, his actual brother, is also far beyond his reach.
It’s difficult, knowing his most precious sibling will never know his protection, but Alec continues on. As much as he wants things to be better, he knows they won’t ever be.
So Alec steels himself and he stares down the people who try to dissuade him.
However, he knows who his mother is, who is brother is and Alec is never afraid.
How can he be, when his family is already trapped away from him. The only thing he can do, is shore up his power and try to become as strong as he can until he can get to them.
His kin.
His family.
Those who love him as much as he loves them.
At least thats the plan… until the war starts and Alec finds himself a dimension away from those he loves the most.

OFMD Season 2 Finale Spoilers
That was THE MOST DISSATISFYING ENDING
Now granted, I'm usually dissatisfied with endings that wrap everything up in a neat little bow, because some stories just work better with an open-ended ending.
For example, one of my favorites will always be Labyrinth. Sarah goes back home, but the goblin king keeps his kingdom and power.
Let's talk about WHY I'm so disatisfied (and honestly, maybe that's the point, it sort of seems like they want the fandom to be like that in order to fix it later one, but idk) 1. Stede Fucking Bonnet STEDE DID NOT BECOME A PIRATE FOR ED
This ending is unsatisfying because why would Stede give this up?! Stede LOVES being a pirate, it's Ed who's disatisfied with that life. Stede CHOSE this life, Stede loves this life, for him to leave it for Ed is fucking ridiculous.
STEDE BONNET IS MORE THAN EDWARD'S BOYFRIEND HE'S HIS OWN GODDAMN CHARACTER AND HE'S THE MAIN CHARACTER FOR FUCK'S SAKE
His pirating is what attracted Edward to him in the first place! You can't take that away from him! It makes him a shell of what he is! Stede never wanted the good peaceful life- he had that. He hated it. Now he just has it with Edward. And sure, he loves Ed, but that's not gonna fix his disatisfaction.
-Now granted, this does seem intentional. It could very well be that this inn ending is intentionally there to show both Ed and Stede, that a part of them really does love the seafaring life, and that they want to return to it.
-You know, like a callback to when Stede returned to Mary and realized what he really wanted was Ed. Instead Stede and Ed are going to try the quiet life and realize what they always wanted was the sea. It was just that they wanted the sea with each other.
-If that's the route they take in Season 3 (or a similar one), I can totally get behind it, and I think it'll fix the Stede Bonnet Problem. [For the record, I think they handed Edward's arc CRAZY well]
2. Izzy Fucking Hands
-. . . Guys. . . One the one hand, the monologue he gave when he died NEEDED to be given.
-Izzy does things more with actions than words, and Ed needed to say how much Izzy meant to him, along with Izzy needing to say how much he loves this crew.
On the other hand- way to kill your guys. Way to immediately fall into old tropes and make us hate ya, Dave. Granted, in the past he has played with tropes intentionally, so this COULD be that (in which case he's sitting back and laughing maniacally like the BASTARD that he is-) Where he's making us believe Izzy is gone for good only to bring him back. [I HAVE HOPE DAMN IT]
-There seems to be this idea that Izzy was the last remaining bit of Blackbeard, but Izzy is his own person and he got to grow into his own person during this season.
Of course, now that he has no thematic relevance, to kill him off is fucking pathetic. NOW we kill him, he's of no use to us. Why keep the disabeled gay? We don't need him anymore. THAT is the vibe that we've been given. Now that he's grown, we're done with him. (as if anyone truly stops growing at any point-)
-Buuut, on the one leg that Izzy has remaining,
-This could be a really good way to tie into Edward's story that he is and always has been Blackbeard. That Blackbeard was never Izzy's creation, but rather a part of himself. And he gets to choose what to do with it.
BUT EVEN IF THAT HAPPENS IZZY JUST DIED FOR EDWARD (Sure, what the character always wanted- but not what he deserved)
-If Izzy comes back from the gravy basket (Maybe with Buttons? lmfao-) with a newfound sense of independence and growth (maybe he learns to love again, idk.), this could be beautiful. A beautiful way to fuck with tropes and to show other shows how people SHOULD be handled. Bury your gays, then bring them back fuckers.
If he doesn't, this fandom will never be the same. Nor will it ever forgive it's writers. We deserve better, man.
