see, this is why 'sailing the high seas of content with unmarked black sails' is important. i used to have an hq version of this video saved and it got pinged and taken down, and you can't even pay to stream the show anywhere now. so here, this is from the late show with david letterman, november 15, 2001. it's in like -400p, bc that's all i can find now. it's earl scruggs (banjo), marty stuart (mandolin), vince gill (electric guitar), paul shaffer (piano), steve martin (banjo), albert lee (played for clapton and emmylou harris, among many others, electric guitar), i believe jerry douglas (from union station, on the dobro), and a few others playing 'foggy mountain breakdown.'

the fact that luke skywalker is a literal hick but has no hick accent is deeply upsetting to me.
can you imagine like. the new republic is being built and they invite Savior of the Galaxy and Last Jedi Luke Skywalker to give a speech or meet the new senate or go to a gala or do something that's important and televised, and everyone's all keyed up to see it because they've never heard Luke Skywalker, Savior of the Galaxy and Last Jedi, give a speech before. But when luke opens his mouth, instead of refined, posh, "proper" basic, bro has the most incomprehensible hillbilly accent??? can you imagine the smiles melting off all the stuffy core world politicians' faces because "oh kark we cant understand the strongest known person in the galaxy because he's from the outer rim." like. literal comedy gold.

I'm on the bluegrass music part of youtube right now and i stumbled across this comment on a really talented banjo cover
Tumblr media
The idea that some serbian dad is in the same part of youtube as I am and his 5 year old son is hearing this fire banjo rendition of Foggy Mountain Breakdown for the first and going absolutely ape shit he likes it so much that he's running and jumping all across and around their house is just sending me. Peace and love on planet earth.

I never stop being amazed by skilled banjo players because like. how can you sit nearly or perfectly still like that, fully focused on creating the music, when the same music has me feeling like I NEED TO RUN AT LEAST 3 LAPS AROUND THE BUILDING RIGHT NOW LET'S GOOOOO

So I was thinking about radioapple fan kids and how they would be expected to not only appreciate music, but also play it. I imagine Alastor and Lucifer would let them pick their instrument(s) and this idea with Sonora came to mind:
Alastor: Alright now, dear. Which would you like to learn? The piano is a wonderful instrument to grow accustomed to.
Lucifer: The violin is also a great choice!
Alastor: For once I agree. What do you think?
Sonora: Um…I want that one that looks like a frying pan on a stick.
Al & Luci: …the banjo?
Sonora: Yeah! That one!
Alastor: *statics in southern* What about the clarinet?
Lucifer: Or accordion? Trumpet? Flute?
Sonora: No. B A N J O.
And after that, anyone threatening the hotel would hear either Dueling Banjos or Foggy Mountain Breakdown in the distance to know that they were royally fucked.
(Banjo art pending!)
