Some explanations for some of these
for the Jews who don't know, it's a thing (at least among some Jews) that you can have a second bar/bat mitzvah at 83 because 70 was what used to be considered a full lifetime
tasteful commercialization of Hanukkah means both not as excessive as Christmas (though we still deserve more than a blue end cap) and actually well done not this shit with blue-lighted wreaths and gingerbread Hanukkah houses and Hanukkah sweaters with English messages written using Hebrew letters as English letters which spell gibberish in Hebrew
Headcanoning characters played by Jewish actors as Jewish unless another religion's stated for them means that e.g. Quinn Fabray from Glee is still canonically Christian despite Dianna Agron being Jewish and Amy Farrah Fowler from BBT clearly had somewhat-Christian parents despite Mayim Bialik's heritage but you could be free to headcanon (unless they're mentioned as another religion in canon) as Jewish characters like Jack Hodgins from Bones or Flynn Carsen from The Librarians or DCEU!Billy Batson
in I think it was 2018 NBC made a really bad sitcom called Living Biblically that was supposedly based on The Year Of Living Biblically but all it shared other than the titular Bible quest was the main character being some sort of entertainment-y writer with a pregnant wife, I can see changing the names but they changed the motivation for the quest, removed the toddler he already had in the book and most gallingly made him freaking Christian when many instances from the book reliant on the guy's Judaism could have made good sitcom episodes

I know I said in the other post that Flynn would have a Grotle but maybe that was rooted more in wanting a Pokémon tied to the region that does a lot with legends & myths, to the point that Champion Cynthia is also a historian/archeologist.
I’ll explain the options below.
Turtwig: Sinnoh’s Grass-type starter based off of a turtle (my 1st thought as mentioned above)
Bulbasaur: the original Grass-type starter from Kanto; Flynn is the start of the Librarian(s) franchise
Charmander: the original Fire-type starter (also draconic even if usually not Dragon-type); Flynn does like dragons as well as Charmander having the same origin factor as Bulbasaur
Cyndaquil: a cute Fire-type starter; could work as a link to Hisui history and not just to Johto’s
Mudkip: a likable Water-type starter from Hoenn; mostly personal preference here
Rowlet: a Grass-type starter (the owl & knowledge link makes it a solid maybe on top of my fondness for it in general); Rowlet has been used in Alola & Hisui
Eevee: it’s cute & fluffy as well as having the most evolution options
I am unsure of any Unova, Kalos, Galar, or Paldea starters that’d fit Flynn. Fennekin seems too on the nose, and none of the others strike me as a good fit although that could easily be personal bias on my part.

I'm currently rewatching the first movie and caught a line of dialogue that never really registered before:
Mrs Carsen states that Flynn has spent sixteen years in college. At the time of the first movie, he's 31 years old (he turns 32 in the second movie, which is specifically stated to take place a year later) which means that Flynn started college when he was fifteen years old.
That actually does clear up some of my questions regarding how he managed to accumulate so many advanced degrees on top of each other when, even fast tracking them, they'd still take years to complete. Also, I had often wondered if he started college early given the fact that he was mentioned to be pretty advanced intellectually even as a young kid.
But also, I can't help thinking about how much trouble Flynn has with feeling like he fits in around others, and his issues when it comes to social situations. How much worse would that make it to also be trying to navigate college for the first time as such a young teenager? Also that probably means he was the youngest member of his class, by quite a few years, during high school too. No wonder he doesn't show much interest in making connections with people at the start of the first movie; he's probably used to being the odd one out through most of his life. Not just for his brains or his special interests, but also from never really being able to hang out with kids his own age and do normal teen things.
I'm gonna be adding this tidbit of info to Flynn's character profile on my Librarian site, but figured I should toss it into the tumblr void too, in case any fic writers find the info useful.

The Librarians (2014) 图书馆员
Starring: Bob Newhart / Christian Kane / Jane Curtin / John King / John Larquette / Lindy Booth / Matt Frewer / Noah Wyle / Rebecca Romijn / Lesley-Ann Blade Genre: Drama / Comedy / Action / Fantasy / Adventure Country/Region of Production: United States Language: English Date: 2014-12-07 (USA) Number of seasons: 4 Number of episodes: 42 Single episode length: 42 minutes Also known as: Librarian IMDb: tt3663490 Type: Crossover
Summary:
The series follows four people newly recruited by The Library: Colonel Eve Baird (Rebecca Romijn), of the NATO Anti-Terrorist Unit, destined to be the new Guardian; Ezekiel Jones (John Harlan Kim), a consummate thief who can hack an NSA computer as easily as he can steal a Fabergé egg; Cassandra Cillian (Lindy Booth), a brilliant scientist and mathematician who possesses a trace of magic; and Jacob Stone (Christian Kane), polymath, linguist, expert in architecture, art, art history, archaeology and world cultures of the past and present, including Native American cultures, and other fields too numerous to mention, including bar fighting. The latter three received invitations from the Library at the same time as the current Librarian, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle), but for various reasons didn't show up for their interviews.
In a break with the concept established in the films that there can be only one Librarian at a time, the first episodes reveal that the state of the world is so dire that it needs a team of Librarians, with Baird serving as Guardian of all four. With the help of Jenkins/Galahad (John Larroquette), immortal manager of the Library’s Annex, they solve impossible mysteries, rewrite and fix key moments in history, recover powerful magical artifacts, fight against supernatural threats, and learn important things about themselves and each other. In the first season, they battle the forces of the Serpent Brotherhood, led by the mysterious immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer). Carsen, who spends the first season searching for the main Library (removed from time and space at the beginning of the series) appears in some episodes.
The second season offers up a pair of new villains, both from fiction: Prospero (Richard Cox), from Shakespeare's The Tempest, and Moriarty (David S. Lee), Sherlock Holmes' chief nemesis. The former is positioned as the greater evil, attempting to use magic to destroy the world in order to remake it more to his liking. Moriarty is more of a gray villain—generally aligned with Prospero but willing to side with the Librarians when it suits his own interests.
The third season introduces a new adversary, Apep, the Egyptian God of Chaos. Defeated centuries before by the first Librarian, Judson (Bob Newhart), and his Guardian, Charlene (Jane Curtin), he is resurrected when his sarcophagus is opened and embarks on a mission to release pure evil into the world, possessing many different people along the way. While they are trying to stop Apep, the Librarians' actions are closely monitored by General Cynthia Rockwell (Vanessa Williams) from a new secret government agency, called DOSA (Department of Statistical Anomalies).
The fourth season does away with season-long story arcs in favor of stand-alone episodes, with three ongoing issues: Before the vernal equinox, Flynn and Eve must undertake a ceremony that will bind them to each other and to the Library, as Charlene and Judson did before them. They will become immortal and bind the Library to Earth, giving it a human connection and a human heart rather than the cold, implacable and dangerously self-centered attitude that would characterize it without that bond. (We learn in season three that the Library is a conscious entity.) The return of Nicole Noone, Flynn's first Guardian, believed dead and now immortal, raises many questions. And conflict arises between the Librarians over former Librarian Darrington Dare's assertion that there can only be one Librarian at a time, or the result will be disastrous. These three stories are not resolved until the last episode.

18+ MINORS AND THOSE WITHOUT AGE IN BIO DNI
warnings: swearing
AN: so I’m writing for Jenkins, flynn Carsen and Jacob stone now. In case anyone was wondering
I stormed through the library only to slam the book on the table in front of Jenkins.
“There’s your damn book Jenkins. Now can I please have a week off?” I snapped at the tall man before me. He raised an eyebrow at me before taking the book and walking off. “Jenkins! Dammit. Jenkins!” I called out as I turned to follow the caretaker.
“I wouldn’t today.” I turned in a circle and looked at Flynn.
“and why not?” I snapped. Flynn gave me a look. “Sorry. It’s been a day. Between that book and getting shot at. Not to mention…” I trailed off and Flynn pushed off the card catalog. “I’m pretty exhausted. I need a week off. Jenkins said if I got the book…” I looked over my shoulder. Flynn wrapped his arm around my shoulders and drew me away from the annex.
“he’d let you take the week off.” I nodded, wrapping my arm around Flynn’s waist. Flynn leaned his head against mine. “If Jenkins tries to send you out again, I’ll take it. Or I’ll make Ezekiel take it.” I laughed slightly as Flynn walked us towards the exit.
“and Jenkins will get pissed at you.” I countered. Flynn shrugged.
“what else is new?” He laughed. Smiling at him, I let him usher me into a car.
“you’re full of surprises Flynn carsen.” I laughed. Flynn smiled over at me before driving off. “So where are we going?”
“you want me to tell you? Or do you want to guess?” He looked over at me with a knowing smirk. “Or just enjoy the ride?”
“oh it’s a ride then.” I tried. Flynn laughed.
“Nice try.” He reached over and squeezed my hand. “I’m not saying.” I smiled at him before looking out the window. “So this week off. What do you want to do?”
“thinking of coming with me?” I asked. Flynn snorted.
“not really. Just curious.” He said.
“sleeping. Probably visiting with friends for a bit.” I shrugged. “Maybe find a way to get to a beach for a bit.”
“sounds nice.” I nodded. “I wouldn’t mind meeting you on the beach.” Smiling, I looked back over at Flynn.
“I wouldn’t mind you crashing that part.” I admitted. Flynn smiled at me. “This is nice.”
“thought you’d enjoy it.” I looked out at the scenery that we passed. “You’ll really like this though.” I laughed as the Statue of Liberty came into view. “How does ice cream sound?” Flynn looked over at me, eyebrow quirked up.
“it sounds nice.” I waited until Flynn parked before climbing out of the car. He walked over to the cart that was across the street and came back as I was climbing onto the hood of the car. Flynn looked at me in surprise. “What?”
“Nothing.” He chuckled. “Just didn’t expect you to climb up there.” Waiting until I was seated, Flynn passed the cones over to me before clambering up next to me. I handed his back and leaned back against the windshield. The street lights turned on as the sky darkened. “This is the only place I know in the entire city where you can see the stars clearly.” I turned my head towards Flynn as I ate my ice cream.
“really?” I looked up at the sky again. “I didn’t even realize that.” Flynn hummed. “I guess being in the city so long made me forget that there are pockets where you can see them. Made me forget to look up.” Flynn leaned back and looked over at me.
“that can happen sometimes.” He agreed. We settled into a comfortable silence. Even after we finished our ice cream, we stayed laid out on the hood of the car. “This is Jenkins’ car by the way.” I started laughing as I rolled onto my side to look at Flynn.
“seriously?” I asked, my smile growing as Flynn started to laugh. He nodded.
“yep. Took the keys earlier today.” He rolled onto his side to watch me. Flynn hesitantly reached over and brushed some hair off my forehead. I smiled softly at him before looking up at the stars again.
“we’ll have to keep this place in mind for our next date.” I said softly. My heart raced as I looked back at Flynn. He was opening and closing his mouth quickly and I started to panic. “Unless this isn’t a date. Or you don’t want to go on another date.” Flynn leaned forward and kissed me.
“I definitely want to go on another date with you. Just,” he laughed quietly. “How did you know? I’d been working up the courage to ask you out for weeks.” I blushed.
“I uh I was taking a chance.” I admitted. “I was hoping…then again I guess you were too.” Flynn nodded before kissing me again. I gently cupped his cheek. “You’re one smooth man Flynn carsen.” I teased.
“smooth?” He asked, blushing. “No one has ever called me that before.”
“let me guess. Nerdy, a dork, socially awkward?” I asked. Flynn nodded.
“I used to…” Flynn started. “I used to be a lot of things.” I nodded. “I’m still sort of…” it was my turn to lean forward and kiss him.
“that’s something to discuss on our next date.” I smiled at him. “For now, let’s enjoy the stars.” Flynn nodded before cuddling up next to me to point out the different constellations. He paused in his rambling to look over at me before kissing me and starting his stories again.

For Forever
(Title of this fic is taken from my favorite song on the Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack. This is a realllllllly sappy fanfiction. It’s not romantic or AU, so it takes place after Eve and Flynn’s tethering ceremony. Kinda angsty? I think? Anyway, super sappy. But I hope you like it! Oh, and the Salmon of Knowledge is from a real Irish folktale.)
——————
The magic doors leading into the Annex glowed bright blue for a moment before flying open and depositing four soaking wet Librarians and an equally drenched Guardian into the room. After all five of them had taken a moment to catch their breath, Eve began speaking.
“Cassandra, why didn’t you wait for us? You’re lucky Stone and Ezekiel knew where you were— you shouldn’t have tried to capture the Salmon of Knowledge on your own!”
Cassandra sighed, seemingly annoyed. “I’ve done plenty of missions by myself...” she said quietly to herself. She took a moment to wring out her red hair, leaving a puddle on the tile floor, then walked out without saying a word.
Now it was Eve’s turn to sigh.
“That’s the third time in two months she’s gone off by herself and ended up in a pickle,” Flynn wondered aloud.
Eve stood still for a moment, watching where Cassandra had exited and wearing an expression filled with worry. She’d talk to her one-on-one later... once they’d both dried off and changed into warm clothes.
Two days later, Eve walked through the Library and found just who she was looking for. Cassandra was sitting on the floor, flipping furiously through the pages of a very large, ancient dictionary.
“Hey,” Eve said softly. “What are you looking for?”
Cassandra didn’t even look up. “I’m looking for a lot, actually. Trying to translate this text... I think I have the right book... Pretty sure it’s Germanic...” Her face was serious and focused.
“I’m sure Stone would be happy to help—“
“I can do it.”
Eve wasn’t sure how to respond. Something was wrong. She decided it was best to just ask, at the risk of upsetting the younger woman.
“Cassandra,” she said as she lowered herself onto the floor.
The redhead finally looked up.
“What’s gotten into you? You’re rushing off to grab artifacts and solve cases alone, you’re not asking for help translating even though we all know that’s not your strong suit...” Cassandra looked away, slightly ashamed. “Cass, we’re here to help. We’re a team. I’m here to help. But I can’t do that if I don’t know what I need to be helping with.”
Cassandra looked back up at Eve, tears in her eyes. The Guardian scooted closer and wrapped an arm around Cassandra’s shoulders. They sat in silence for a moment, then the Librarian began to speak.
“I don’t want you to forget me.”
“What?” Eve was confused.
“You’re immortal now— Do you really think Jenkins remembers every single Librarian he’s ever had? Do you think Charlene or Judson remembered every single one? No. I have to be the best Librarian there ever was, or at least one of the best... so you don’t forget me.” Cassandra was crying softly now.
“Oh, Cass,” Eve suddenly understood why Cassandra had been trying to outdo the others.
“I don’t care if the world forgets me, if the Library itself forgets me— I just don’t want you to.”
Eve sighed sadly. “Cassandra, I will never forget you. I may live for another thousand years, or another two thousand, or three. In that time, I’m sure I’ll have other Librarians. Some, I’ll love and some, I’ll hate. And you’re right, I’m sure there will be others that I forget. But Cassandra... How could I ever forget you?” Cassandra sniffled and looked into Eve’s eyes. Eve continued speaking. “You are brave, and strong, and true. You are smart, and caring, and real. I could go on for forever and you still would have no idea what you mean to me, what you mean to the Library, to the world. Memories fade with age. I won’t remember every conversation we’ve ever had, and I might not even remember this one. But I won’t remember how many artifacts you gathered or how many villains you defeated, either. What I will remember is how much I came to love a thief, a cowboy, and a maid.” Cassandra smiled through her tears. “You’re one of my greatest friends, Cassandra. And I won’t remember every friend I’ve ever made in my travels... But I’ll remember you. And that’s not because you’re the best. It’s because you’re you.”
“Even if you live to be a thousand? Or two thousand?”
“Even if I live to be three.”
Cassandra threw her arms around Eve’s neck, and Eve returned the embrace. They stayed like that for what felt like hours, and by the end, Eve knew—
This was not a conversation she’d ever forget.

Because holy crap did that So Help Me Todd ever need a debrief
Cool to see we didn't just have an episode with basically all sleuthing just happening to take place partially in the world of law but it basically went from 0 to film noir in no time a homage further intensified once I found out the episode's title ("Dial M For Margaret")
And I guess that's just another thing contributing to how this episode similarly to the S1 finale kinda had a shoe-on-the-other-foot-reinforcing-the-bond-between-them type plot (and just like that one had lawyer!Todd (which made some of fans want that to be his eventual path-he-ends-the-show-with after many seasons of detecting, I think if that happened it'd have to be at the very end to not lose their Librarian/Guardian-esque dual dynamic perhaps like how Bones ended with Hodgins becoming "king of the lab") this had "Margaret Wright P.I.", further cementing the kind of two-sides-of-a-coin thing you usually get with romantic soulmates in shows like this)
Speaking of mothers and children, my mom who I've mentioned I've been watching the show with noticed a connection I doubt even most older viewers would notice, that as two older-older female sisters with a yen for detecting the Lee sisters could have been a reference to the title characters of obscure-ish 70s detective show The Snoop Sisters
Dick Franks doesn't just feel like another dramatic foil to Todd (in this case the Dark Mirror kind of foil, y'know, a negative example of what our hero could be if he didn't have his team etc. and now I'm again comparing Todd to Flynn Carsen as didn't he have a character like that too) but like if the SHMT fandom was as big as I wish it was Dick is the metaphorical embodiment of what I think Todd's bad-fanon-characterization would be
But one good thing (other than helping save the day of course) he did provide was the second thing this season that could be taken as a hint towards Todd liking guys (the first was basically everything about Todd's undercover-internship for that TV weatherman), hmm....
First episode all season-so-far where no one was a fashion disaster, sure Margaret and Lyle were technically pattern mixing but Lyle's could barely be seen behind his sweater vest and both their combos (Margaret's top and coat (specifically that blue outfit) and Lyle's shirt and tie) were in the same relative color family. And even for what time she appeared Susan in particular was looking especially stylish (Todd's still my #1 crush on this show by a country mile but Susan might still be moving forward (just not anywhere near catching up) the more she continues to be the prettiest chick on here, so help me Todd why is everyone so attractive?!)
Tfw you're having to hold in wanting to yell at the TV "Margaret, stop fangirling over the decor"
I honestly wasn't expecting even the trailer for this episode as given the plot emphasis on when the continuance was to last episode I thought the Tuttle case would be a two-parter

Title: “Shakespeare’s #1 Defender”
Fandom: The Librarians (TNT series)
Notes: i’m honestly not sure what this is. writing is kicking my ass, but lol please enjoy this stupid lil fic :P
Flynn Carsen hated James Moriarty. It was a true and simple fact like the Earth orbits the Sun or King Henry VIII died on January 28, 1547 of what was probably untreated type II diabetes. These were things that Flynn knew. These were things that drove his life. So, really, it shouldn’t have come to too much of a surprise when James Moriarty was moved into the room across from his because life hated him.
The school had decided to do some remodeling, but because of said remodeling, a section of the ceiling had caved in. The principal, distraught and stressed, had had to do weeks of moving around teachers and settling them into their temporary rooms. Flynn, who’d been working at the school for nearly ten years now, had no fears of being moved; his room was his. But apparently Ms. Faire, the teacher across the hall from him, did not have as great luck.
Flynn, encumbered with papers and with his satchel attempting to slip off his shoulder, stopped in the middle of the hallway, utterly surprised, when he noticed James Moriarty carrying a box of his belongings and fumbling with his keys to open the door to the classroom that laid across the hall from Flynn’s.
“Uh, your room’s down the hall,” Flynn quickly said, catching a paper as it tried to flutter away from him.
Moriarty looked up from his keys and scowled. It was a well-known fact that James Moriarty hated Flynn Carsen too. “I got moved, actually. This is my room now.”
Flynn frowned. “You’re kidding me.”
Moriarty shrugged and turned back to his keys. “I was told they want to keep teachers with like-subjects closer to each other now.”
Flynn could have scoffed at that. James Moriarty taught English; Flynn taught English History. They were completely different subjects! He was absolutely appalled.
“Well, that’s ridiculous,” Flynn remarked.
Moriarty finally managed to get his door open and swung it out. He glanced over his shoulder, appraised Flynn slowly, and let his scowl get deeper. “Yes; I’m quite aware.”
With that, he stepped into his classroom and let the door swing shut behind him. Flynn frowned after him and told himself he’d speak with the principal by the end of the day.
~~~
“There’s nothing I can do, Flynn.”
“What?!” Flynn squawked. “That’s ridiculous! You’re the one who did it, so just…undo it!”
Eve Baird let out a long, frustrated sigh. She looked ten seconds from decking Flynn, but instead restrained herself and set her hands in her lap. “Flynn, I can’t just undo it. We’ve finally got a setup that will actually work. I’m not undoing it. You’ll just have to get used to being Mr. Moriarty’s neighbor.”
Flynn scowled. “No. I refuse.”
“Stop being a child, Mr. Carsen, and suck it up,” Eve said, and her tone held no room for argument. “Am I understood?”
“Baird, just see it how I see it-.”
“Good, you’re dismissed, Mr. Carsen,” Eve said pointedly, nodding towards the door.
Flynn sighed, deemed it a lost cause, and left the room grumbling under his breath.
~~~
Flynn still wasn’t entirely sure when this rivalry between him and Moriarty had started. In Moriarty’s first year of working at the school, they’d even been quite amiable. Then discussions about certain authors turned into debates and then debates had turned into arguments. If he really had to pin a date on it, he guessed it would’ve been the day that Moriarty called Shakespeare a dilettante and a thief. Since that day, the two had never gotten along and avoided each other like the plague.
The rest of the teachers just ignored them and rolled their eyes when one would walk in the room and the other would immediately get upset. By now, they were used to the two and their petty anger and didn’t bother trying to fix it.
One teacher in particular was entirely unsympathetic to Flynn’s plight. This teacher, unfortunately, happened to be Flynn’s best friend and one of the few people who could endure him at all times.
“I just don’t see what your deal with him is,” Jacob Stone, history teacher, said the next day over his cup of coffee. “I mean, he’s a pretty cool dude. Did you know he owns, like, half of a museum downtown? Hell, you’ve probably been there before, man.”
Flynn rolled his eyes, something he was generally not prone to do. This whole situation was putting him out of whack. “Yes, I’ve been there.”
“And?” Jacob said with a small, sly grin on his face.
Flynn huffed in frustration. “It’s beautiful! And I don’t see why someone like him gets to have any part in it.”
“Probably because he funded it,” Jacob said, shrugging at Flynn’s unimpressed face. “Look, Flynn, all I’m sayin’ is that the dude’s a good dude. Maybe if you two would stop pulling each other’s pigtails for five seconds, you’d see that you could actually get along really well.”
Flynn’s nose scrunched up. “Pulling each other’s pigtails? What’s that supposed to mean?”
Jacob smirked. “C’mon, man, don’t play dumb. You know exactly what that means. The entire staff is taking bets. Pretty sure Baird is in the lead.”
“What?! I don’t-! No, that’s-! Why would you-?!” Flynn spluttered, cheeks burning hot in embarrassment.
Jacob’s smirk only got smugger. “Uh-huh, sure, Flynn. Just keep tellin’ yourself that.”
He got up from his seat and grabbed his mug. As he was about to walk away, Flynn snapped, “I could never like someone who thinks Shakespeare didn’t write his own plays!”
Jacob laughed loudly at that and shrugged at Flynn, glancing over his shoulder to say, “You get along with me just fine.”
“You’re joking, right?!” Flynn shouted after him, but his only response was an even louder laugh.
~~~
The worst part of Jacob pointing out to Flynn that he and Moriarty could get along was realizing that it actually might be true. Other than their severely different views on Shakespeare, Flynn was pretty sure they agreed on most other things. From what he remembered from their brief time as friends, he and Moriarty got along super well. Actually, he wasn’t sure why one, simple argument could’ve pushed them so far apart.
He was mulling it over after school as he sat at his desk and prepared his papers for the next day; it was taking longer than usual because he was so lost in his own thoughts. He was about to shove some papers he needed to grade into his satchel when his door was opened.
And, honestly, with how this week had been going, he shouldn’t have been at all surprised to find Moriarty. The English teacher looked awkward, nervously fidgeting in place as he cleared his throat. “Uh, hello, Mr. Carsen. Do you have a moment?”
Flynn couldn’t help the way his cheeks flushed and goddammit Jake. He nodded quickly – way too quickly – and said, “Uh, yes, yeah, of course. Is everything okay?”
If Moriarty was confused by Flynn’s questioning of his wellbeing, he didn’t show it. Instead, he shook his head and said, “Look, I know this is difficult for you. It’s not easy on me either. We don’t exactly…get along, but I was hoping that, at least for the rest of the year, we could hold a…civil relationship?”
“Oh, yeah, definitely, absolutely,” Flynn said, words tumbling out of his mouth without his consent. “And, I mean, hey, maybe all this silly rivalry was, well, exactly that – silly. Maybe we should just put it all behind us, you know?”
That was when Moriarty frowned at him. “What? You’re saying that after nearly five years of arguments and glares you just want to…let it go?”
“Why not?” Flynn said with a tight grin. Why did he do this? Why did he let Jacob Stone get him into the flustered mess that he was now?
Moriarty’s frown got deeper. “What’s gotten into you?”
Flynn huffed out a short breath. Well, honesty was the best policy and all that. “Jacob got into my head about…some stuff.”
One of Moriarty’s eyebrows raised. “Did he manage to change your incorrect opinion on Shakespeare?”
“No,” Flynn growled, ignoring the teasing look that flashed through Moriarty’s eyes. Flynn cleared his throat, unable to help the flush that spread up from his neck as he said, “He brought to light some…other things. About the rest of the staff and…us.”
“Oh, you mean their betting pool?” Moriarty said with a slight roll of his eyes.
Flynn’s eyes widened. “You knew about it?!”
Moriarty grinned. “You didn’t?” Flynn guessed that the look on his face perfectly conveyed, that, no, he didn’t because Moriarty continued with, “If it makes you feel any better, it’s only been going on for about a year. Ms. Cillian, the physics teacher – you know her, don’t you? – is apparently the one who brought our apparent chemistry to light. Mr. Jones decided to create the infamous bet.”
Flynn huffed another breath of annoyance. “You can sever trust a Social Sciences teacher.” He frowned. “Is it true that Eve’s in the lead?”
Moriarty smirked. “Why do you think she put me in the room across from yours? Apparently, she plays dirty.”
“Not surprising,” Flynn murmured. His face still felt like it was on fire, and he tugged at his collar and said, “Well that’s all…very awkward.”
“To be fair,” Moriarty said, “I thought you knew. Otherwise I might have told you about it.”
“That would’ve been more awkward,” Flynn quickly decided on. He frowned and met Moriarty’s eyes. “So…what are we supposed to do about all of this?”
Moriarty’s smirk returned. “Well, I don’t suppose that we’re going to get together on the spot and shag in a janitor’s closet.” That had Flynn blushing, but he tried his best to ignore it. In a calmer voice, Moriarty said, “I suppose we can just…get over our petty differences and try to get along…for the time being.”
“Yes, yeah,” Flynn started nodding erratically, “that sounds like a great idea.”
“Yes, well, thank you…Flynn,” Moriarty said.
“I’ll, uh, see you tomorrow…James,” Flynn said back. Moriarty – no, James – gave him a polite nod and smile before he backed out of the room.
Flynn was officially on a first-name basis with James Moriarty.
Well, things could certainly be worse.
(A few months later they were found kissing in Moriarty’s room.
Jacob narrowly won the bet and gloated for weeks.)
Show Recommendations
Grimm
Platform: Amazon Prime
Official overview: Portland detective Nick Burkhardt, descended from a long line of warriors known as Grimms, defends his city from magical creatures known as Wesen, which are part human and part animal. Fighting alongside his partner, Hank, colleague Sergeant Wu and friends Monroe and Rosalee, Nick faces off against internal and external forces, including his police captain, Sean Renard.
My overview: Portland detective Nick Burkhardt thinks he's going insane when he randomly starts seeing monsters at the time his aunt goes into a coma. Turns out he's not, in fact, going crazy. He deals with shit trying to kill him and his girlfriend and friends CONSTANTLY and in reality all he wants to do his keep his city safe, and he accidentally saves the world in the process.
Thoughts on the show: I love it, it does have a habit of setting up for recurring characters and then never mentioning them again, so that's annoying. There are 6 seasons. There are some great romances in the show, and also some iffy ones, but the iffy ones are definitely regarded as such in the show, and eventually either develop past the weird stage or die before anymore harm can be done. Aired from 2011 to 2017
Thoughts on the fandom: Wayyyy too small, I know of 0 people around my age who like it, and 90% of the fan base is obsessed with Sasha Roiz who plays Sean Renard (not that I'm judging). Definitely not enough fics out there, and the ones that I've found seem to be poorly written or basically just pwp.
Warehouse 13
Platform: Amazon Prime
Official overview: Following an abrupt transfer, Secret Service agents Pete Lattimer and Myka Bering find themselves in the middle of South Dakota at a massive, top-secret storage warehouse that holds every strange artifact, mysterious relic, out-of-this-world object and supernatural souvenir ever found by the U.S. government. Lattimer and Bering's new task, as directed by the warehouse's caretaker, longtime agent Artie Nielsen, is to investigate reports of unexplainable and paranormal activity in an effort to secure more peculiar and dangerous objects, and to help Artie manage the warehouse itself.
My overview: imagine the TARDIS except it's a warehouse and not a police box (bigger on the inside) and it's full of cursed objects to be kept there so it doesn't destroy the world.
Thoughts on the show: I love it. It accurately depicts trauma and has decent representation such as a black woman everyone is intimidated by because she's the boss, a gay man who isn't sexualized and has development and a personality other than "gay". There is even an incredibly homoerotic friendship between two women that the actress of said women played up because they wanted their characters together, even if one turned out to be not-so-good. The show deals with sexism and victims of neglect. You'll learn a lot of random history while watching the show as all of the artifacts tend to be historically based (the guillotine blade that cut of Marie Antoinette's head, for instance). There are 5 seasons and I'm s3 or 4. Apparently the show does something weird with Pete and Myka at the end, which probably means they get together. Ran 2009 to 2014.
Thoughts on the fandom: again, way too small, although a lot bigger than Grimm. There are quite a few fics out there, mainly for the two women which I ship with my whole heart. There might be some controversy with Eddie McClintock (Pete Lattimer) but I'm not very well-versed in it. I wish Grimm's fandom was as big as W13's.
The Umbrella Academy
Platform: Netflix
Official overview: On one day in 1989, 43 infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by billionaire industrialist Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who creates the Umbrella Academy and prepares his "children" to save the world. In their teenage years, though, the family fractures and the team disbands. Fast forward to the present time, when the six surviving members of the clan reunite upon the news of Hargreeves' passing. They work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father's death, but divergent personalities and abilities again pull the estranged family apart, and a global apocalypse is another imminent threat. The series is based on a collection of comics and graphic novels created and written by My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerard Way.
My overview: adult survivors of abuse with increasingly weird/out-there superpowers due to the weird circumstances of their birth come together to celebrate *cough* I mean mourn the passing of their "father" And accidentally cause the apocalypse.
Thoughts on the show: I love it. I've finished season 2,currenfly there are only 2 seasons, it's still in progress, I love it. I'm sure most of you have already watched it because what is the supernatural fandom if not emo? Also a good one for representation. Mexican man with a stutter, black woman with a daughter she is in a custody battle for, gay druggie veteran, Ellen Page, Asian ghost boy, 58 year old man in a 13 year old's body, and a half-chimp man.
Thoughts on the fandom: big. Big big big. Haven't found any fics that cater to my specific wants in a fic, but there are fics. Some of them have weird pairings, but since the show made two (adopted) siblings canon, I can't exactly blame them.
Lost Girl
Platform: I actually have no idea
Official overview: Bo is a small-town girl on the run after a disastrous sexual encounter with her boyfriend ends with his death. Bo learns that she is not human, but a succubus, who feeds on the sexual energy of humans. She and her kind are members of the Fae, creatures of legend, who walk among humans and feed off them in different ways. As she searches for the truth about her origins and runs from her inhuman urges, she vows to help those she meets along the way -- human or Fae -- who need to right a wrong.
My overview: bisexual woman finds out she's a succubus and she has to choose to be either good Fae or bad Fae (I think it's light vs dark but it's been a Hot Minute) she has a thing with a werewolf and also a thing with a Fae doctor who is human and a woman.
Thoughts on the show: it's good, 5 seasons, don't think I've finished the first season. Back when I started watching it it was on Netflix and has since been removed. It's on Vudo but it costs money which is bullshit. It's a little weird at first, but I like it. Ran 2010 to 2015.
Thoughts on the fandom: have not interacted with the fandom for fear of spoilers. I'd imagine this show's fandom is about the size of Grimm.
Being Human (USA version)
Platform: again, I don't know.
Official overview: "Being Human," based on a BBC series of the same name, features three 20-something roommates who each try to keep a secret from the rest of the world -- one is a ghost, another is a vampire and the third is a werewolf. The three roomies try to help one another navigate the complexities of living double lives.
My overview: again, weird starts off in almost the middle of the story. It deals with abuse, death, fighting urges, dealing with past sins, and, well, being human. The characters are Sally (Ghost) Aidan (vampire) and Josh (werewolf). The three of them are trying to live like normal, Aidan and Josh as workers at the local hospital as Sally works to deal with her death.
Thoughts on the show: I love it I just wish I could find it on a reliable site, again, it's on Vudo but it costs money. It definitely had the set up for a good mlm relationship but from what I've gathered they end up forcing heterosexuality.
Thoughts on the fandom: again, too small, roughly the size of Grimm. I have seen 0 fics.
The Librarians
Platform: Hulu I do so believe
Official overview: Cued by TNT's popular 'The Librarian' trilogy, this series introduces new members of an ancient group protecting mystical artefacts. Hidden below the Metropolitan Public Library, the secret society's longtime leader is Flynn Carsen, whose job has become very complicated. To help, the Library recruits Eve, a counterterrorism agent responsible for organizational security; Jacob, who has encyclopedic knowledge of art, architecture and history; Cassandra, who links auditory/sensory hallucinations to memory; and Ezekiel, a skilled thief and master technician. Overseeing them is Jenkins, the reclusive caretaker of the Library's sleepy little outpost in Oregon. Noah Wyle executive produces and recurs as Flynn, the role he played in the movie series.
My overview: very similar to W13. This time imagine the Bunker, and the Warehouse, and boom, you've got the Library.
Thoughts on the show: good! I love it, I just found out it was on Hulu and am going to be binging it as soon as I finish Grimm and Warehouse. I'd love to see a crossover between W13 and The Librarians I feel like they'd have a feud.
Thoughts on the fandom: probably the same size as W13 if not bigger as the series came from movies. Again, haven't finished the series so I haven't interacted with the fandom.
Eureka
Platform: Amazon Prime
Official overview: In the years since World War II, the U.S. government has been relocating the world's geniuses (and their families) to the Pacific Northwest town of Eureka. Daily life there shifts between amazing innovation and total chaos. U.S. Marshal Jack Carter learns this first-hand when his car breaks down in Eureka, stranding him among the town's eccentric citizens. When they unleash a scientific creation still unknown to the outside world, it's up to Carter to restore order. Subsequently, he's let in on one of America's best-kept secrets.
My overview: a small town but make every person a genius. Has some crossover with Warehouse 13, they exist in the same universe.
Thoughts on the show: I love it so far. Just the kind of weird shit I enjoy.
Thoughts on the fandom: I'd imagine about the size of Warehouse 13's but I've yet to interact considering I'm still in season 1.
