one of my absolute favorite scenes in black sails is the one in vii when the walrus and the ranger set sail for the urca to the tune of the parson's farewell.

there is just such... finality to it.

i am once AGAIN thinking about the scene in black sails where flint has just been forced by miranda to confront his overwhelming grief over losing thomas, which has been fueling his unholy rage for the past two seasons. flint is sitting there, having a flashback, drowning in the tragedy and injustice of his gay lover’s death… then vane bursts into the room like a roided-up kool-aid man and immediately tries to kill him. 10/10, flawless tonal whiplash, one of the funniest moments in the entire show.

been rewatching black sails for the third time (showing a friend) (as one must) and im finally solidifying my thoughts on one of the things i most love about it. which is that, a lot of times a story will have like... you know. Love vs Hate. Good vs Evil, Anger vs Forgiveness. and those themes can have their place, sure, but when it comes to meaningful commentary on the human condition they really tend to wind up falling short

and black sails doesnt have that. instead the main dichotomy that drives its characters to action is Hope vs Fear. and i could write a thirty page essay on this, in fact i have attempted multiple times to provide supporting arguments in this post but i cant start typing and contain it to Not thirty entire pages so you will just have to trust me. on this one.

#everhthing is hope vs fear and at the end flint has cleansed himself of fear and has only hope but he has tied himself too closely to silver #who has felt nothing but fear in his whole life 👍 and projects his worst fears onto flint and makes them all come true in the process #And Uits Good.#black sails

just finished the second season of black sails and i gotta say i understand why it makes queers go feral

#i’m frothing at the mouth #black sails #i watched the first season yesterday and didn’t really enjoy it much #the pacing is really weird the characterisation was shallow at best and the whole thing stank of game of thrones levels of forced edgyness #but man the second season slapped so hard full 180 turnaround #the flashbacks were expertly crafted all major characters have relatable motives and they pull through ruthlessly #their fatal flaws are right there and like a greek tradgedy it all happens exactly how it must #in revealing it’s nature as a character study of flint and of what broke him so utterly the pacing actually becomes so poignant and perfect #with each new bit of information we’re given we understand his urgency his ruthlessness his unwavering calm hatred #he’s turned himself into a proper fucking monster and it’s tragic because it could only have ever gone this way #there’s no way out and the show being a prequel we know he lives we know he can’t win #actually doomed by the narrative in the worst/best way #but by god i just want his to set the world aflame

Ok, thinking now abouttttt if somehow Flint broke back into the Grid and interacted with Uprising Tron & like. How that would even go down...

Uprising!Tron is so absolutely intense & like he has attempted to turn off his emotions & he acts cold and harsh since the terrible reality of his existence in Clu's Grid is his life.

Adding in Flint among all of that... like, how would that even go??

Tron would likely be upset and distraught for Flint being added into the fray, but how else while he's already damaged goods be able to protect another he loves without risking derezzing for his own user?

Would he even be happy to see Flint? Is he capable of doing so when in such a poor mental headpace??? Would he be able to even allow himself to advance in his affections for his user?

I dunno I dunno I dunno...
