one of my absolute favorite scenes in black sails is the one in vii when the walrus and the ranger set sail for the urca to the tune of the parson's farewell.
there is just such... finality to it.

i am once AGAIN thinking about the scene in black sails where flint has just been forced by miranda to confront his overwhelming grief over losing thomas, which has been fueling his unholy rage for the past two seasons. flint is sitting there, having a flashback, drowning in the tragedy and injustice of his gay lover’s death… then vane bursts into the room like a roided-up kool-aid man and immediately tries to kill him. 10/10, flawless tonal whiplash, one of the funniest moments in the entire show.

i was perusing bs fics including hennessey as a character because i wanted to see what the fandom did with flint's daddy issues. i am so surprised! no criticism, but he gets a really sympathetic depiction on a lot of fics, way more than i expected. there seems to be a lot of agreement that he did everything he could to make flint's sentence as mild as possible, that he hated alfred hamilton & went along with his plans kind of reluctantly & there are even some fix-its that see him run to the rescue of thomas/flint/miranda to some combination. none of these are an impossible read of the situation i am just surprised i hardly see anyone painting him as a bit more culpable & less conflicted. not because it's a better take, but i think it's at least a possible one. i can believe he had some regard for flint, but how far did it go really? it's not like we see him help him after the dismissal in any way, not even in secret, & he made a good show of looking genuinely horrified by flint in front of a. hamilton. i don't know i am just chatting into the void, but i find it peculiar that he seems to attract little resentment! you all really want flint & his dad to make peace & love each other <3

I'm imagining one day while still on the run, Flint is blushingly telling Rinzler about a brave, fearless, strong, handsome program he's in love with... & tho Rinz is sitting there, nodding along thoughtfully, inside he is snarling & foaming at the mouth because someone ELSE has DARED made themself BELOVED in his user's eyes & Rinzler HIMSELF will tear this foolish program apart file by file.... having no idea Flint's been talking about him the whole while lol
