Ultimately the reason why it makes me roll my eyes every time there's a post that makes fun of the way americans don't know shit about the world and someone adds a response about how it's not niceys to make fun of people for not knowing things and everyone has blindspots and you weren't born knowing everything and blah blah blah today's lucky 10.000 UwwwwwU etc. is because, ultimately, I don't think what's wrong with the average online american is that they're ignorant, ignorant people are everywhere, and everyone is ignorant about a lot of things.
What's wrong with the average american is not that they're ignorant, it's that every time they have to confront the things they're ignorant about they immediately construct a narrative where their ignorance is the product of some uniquely and exclusively american disadvantage that they, and apparently no one else in the world, have to deal with ("our educative system doesn't teach us anything about the world, you don't understand how bad it is", "we're bombarded with propaganda since birth", "we're subjected to a culture that punishes curiosity i stead of rewarding it", "we're so overworked and underpaid, you think we have the energy to try to learn anything in our spare time?", or my favorite I saw a couple months ago "well you might not know this but for the average american traveling abroad is not really accessible so it's not like we can visit other countries to learn about their culture" as if the average person outside the is constantly taking international vacations or something) when, in reality, their ignorance is a product of immense cultural privilege, a product of the fact that they even have the ability to go through their entire life without needing to learn shit about anywhere else in the world, which is something that no one else in the world has (well people from other first world countries kinda have it too but not to the degree as americans because in terms of cultural hegemony the U.S. is the first world's first world)

genuine question — how is donating money going to help Palestinians if no food is going in? What is the money for?
Medicine, water, supplies, food, fuel (much of it black market being upsold at egregious prices) — these all cost money and pretty much all Palestinians in Gaza have no source of income now. It’s drops in the bucket compared to ending the siege and occupation but it’s one way to do at least something small to help. Others are in need of money to evacuate when the border opens again (which hopefully is asap…), tuition and supplies for school to continue studies despite it all. Another fund is focused on trying to rebuild farmlands in Gaza to get food again that way.
I can’t tell anyone what to do with their money but I don’t think this mindset of “well nothings going in so we can’t help” is helpful for people on the ground who are the ones saying that donations can and do help them survive.

To those who care about the Gaza Strip and its people...
To anyone who thinks that no Palestinian lives have been saved... I don't think that's true. For example, think about the massive amount of fundraising campaigns that have tangibly helped, even with the aid embargo in Israel, that have tangibly helped Palestinians. We've gained support as a result of this activity. So, to say, "No Palestinian lives have been saved," again, that's not true. That's not true.
But secondly, even if that were true, would you blame yourself and the people for not standing up for you and for not speaking out against things that were already wrong because they weren't effective enough, instead of just offering better ways to do it? Should something be done or not?
Yes,You can make a big change from here...

FTM PASSING ADVICE
- start wearing typically masculine clothing, like suits with wide shoulders
- people will tell you to not wear pinstripes because it'll make your chest and curves more obvious but think of it as a disguise to throw off their scent, like a zebra. it's urban camouflage
- start callin other men "boss" as a sign of respect
- always make sure to stay safe, keep a switchblade on you or a handgun or something
- consider your diet, work some carbs and fat in there for when T starts workin it's magic. im talkin pasta, pizza, lasagna
- tuck your hair up into a fedora if ya can't cut it
- remember to voice train, if you layer on an accent maybe it'll be less obvious, like a Brooklyn one if you're not already from there
- start snappin your rhythmically and intimidatingly when you find the poor bastard that owes the big man up top that several hundred grand who hasn't paid his dues yet. that'll show em who's the dominant man in the situation
- put a playlist of noir jazz music together and have it playing on your phone in your pocket so it follows you at all times, this is crucial to exuding masculine energy
- don't bind for more than 6-7 hours straight

I feel like every other week I have to make a post reminding people that autism is a disability. but. autism is a disability. it is disabling. a majority of autistic people do not need to be told that they are not trying hard enough to “overcome” one symptom or another. we do not need to be told that we’re weird or hard to talk to or slow or whatever else people always seem to think about us already. and we don’t need to be talked down to about how inconvenient we’re being when we Have Autism Symptoms. this is a disability. I can promise you we are aware that it disables us. that’s kind of the whole thing

I know the Internet-exclusive contrarian brand of white communist is really enjoying telling everyone 'real art' isn't real and complaints about AI art are just purely reactionary but now that AI slop music and art is just flooding basically every website and platform of everything because of the easy money generation it gives for the slop producers, the cold take talking point will soon switch to like "Under communism we would have Real Art, not that soulless capitalistic AI slop." Genuinely though the amount of times I've seen "reactionary" in the same sentence as "AI" posted by these chronically online wannabes is making me realize this word just doesn't mean shit anymore.

going through the notes on that post i am both disappointed and unsurprised to find that most peoples tags are along the lines of "yeah! i used to hate pink and now i dont and this is an improvement" aka the exact opposite of what the point was. but also i think ive put some pieces together in my brain
multiple people in the tags seemed to be working off the assumption that the social pressure to "grow up" from things like pink and dolls and whatever else, was actually a social pressure to... stop being feminine? So they pretended not to like pink as a teenager, and now they feel counterculture for openly liking it. which i think. says something, about how youth-focused the standards of femininity are in america (among other places). that there arent really idealized adult woman interests to replace the kid ones aside from housewife shit
which is nuts right. young girls are not the only ones who get peer-pressured out of "childish" interests when they get older! yet you never see men feel like they have to repent for a perceived lapse in masculinity by getting really into super smash bros. which i feel like is something more worth addressing. instead of saying that overcoming misogyny is all about repairing your relationship to the girl toys aisle at walmart
