Molly Weasley: The Good, The Bad, and the Overbearing

Look, Molly is lovely in many ways, fiercely protective, deeply caring, but let’s be honest: she’s also overbearing, judgmental, and has a blind spot the size of the Burrow when it comes to her kids’ emotional struggles. Like… how do you not notice Ron’s crippling insecurities? And don’t even get me started on her treatment of Fleur (or Hermione in Goblet of Fire). There’s a pattern here, and it’s rooted in her traditional views, especially when it comes to gender roles.

And while we’re on the subject, let’s be real, the whole "hating Fleur" arc? That’s 100% on JKR and her, uh, interesting views on women. Molly’s behavior isn’t happening in a vacuum, it reflects a broader issue in how female characters who embrace femininity or don’t fit a "strong but nurturing" mold get treated in the series. Fleur was right there surviving dragons and loving Bill through literal disfigurement, and Molly still couldn’t give her a break.

I can absolutely see Molly being that mother-in-law. The one who quietly (or not so quietly) disapproves of her sons’ partners, especially if they don’t fit into her narrow vision of what a "proper wife" should be. Fleur? Too vain and glamorous. Audrey? Too independent, too modern. And let’s be real, if the boys didn’t step in and set boundaries, that kind of behavior would wreak havoc on their relationships. (More on how I think they’d handle that… later. Muahahah.)

And Ginny? Oh, you know there would be tension. Ginny’s ambitious, independent, and not the type to give up her career to play house. I imagine post-war Ginny being even more determined to live on her own terms, whether that means playing professional Quidditch or just refusing to settle into the "perfect daughter" mold. That’s not something Molly would take lightly, and the clash between her mother’s expectations and her own desires would be so interesting to explore.

I’m particularly obsessed with the idea of Ron and Percy being the ones to draw the line with Molly. (Yes, this is my blatant favoritism showing, no, I’m not sorry.) Both of them went through major personal growth: Ron finally recognizing his own worth, and Percy reckoning with the harm his rigid worldview caused. Post-war, they’d understand how important it is to support their partners and to demand respect for the choices they all make. I can see Ron, in particular, being hyper-aware of the emotional labor Hermione carries and stepping in when Molly crosses a line.

There’s so much potential for complex family dynamics here. The war forced all the Weasley kids to grow up fast, and after everything they’ve survived, I don’t see them quietly accepting Molly’s more regressive attitudes anymore. They’d push back. They’d have those tough, necessary conversations. And honestly? That growth, on both sides, would make for such a satisfying exploration of family, identity, and learning how to let go of the roles you’ve always played.

Molly may not love the idea of her daughter and daughters-in-law prioritizing careers over children, but if the boys step up and refuse to let her dictate their lives? That’s where the real power shift happens. And I, for one, would love to see it.

Headcanon: The Weasley family’s Shell Cottage, owned by Bill and Fleur, originally belonged to the Prewett family. Ignatius Prewett built it for his wife Lucretia after they got married and used it as a family vacation spot where they invited their nieces and nephews to spend the summer with them.

bonus: Lucretia would invite her nephews Sirius and Regulus to the cottage when they were younger. When the brothers got older, they started bringing their friends over to the cottage and this is where they’d spend most of their summers.

this also led her to do med school. idk healer vic is something so personal for me. idk what exactly she’d be doing but i know it would be in the big buck areas. a dermatologist or a optometrist or a surgeon or something. she’s smart as hell.

very particular about presenting a good image for her family. she was the oldest weasley in the new generation and so she knew she had to present herself in a certain way, and she never thought she minded until she was suddenly 18 and having an identity crisis

furthermore, the rita skeeter incident with her and teddy nearly killed her. shes been through some traumatic shit but that was crossing the line

gets into so many fights with dominique because both of them are polar opposites and are jealous of each other for completely different reasons. dominique wishes she can fit into the mould like victoire so easily does, victoire wishes she could be as free and uncaring as dominique is. both don’t understand each other

I love the idea of Fleur, Audrey, and Angelina forming a tight-knit trio.
