So who's this "Twilight Phantom"?

I play a strict game with myself when it comes to my main blorbo: 98% of what the FLPC does, in the exact order i do it, is canon.

This also applies to small things like their possessions/wardrobe, for example - they pretty much only have the in-game items I own in the account to wear. Finding out reasons to explain why they keep the things they own is part of the fun. (this game made them out to be a weirdo, naturally)

It's been lots of fun to see this clean slate (and i do mean clean - i knew nothing about the setting/lore, or who they were as a person, so. well. this guy didn't either) get shaped by RNG, the narrative, And my mechanical wiki-fueled optimization decisions.

another extra rule i made for myself as a treat was making them a sponge to compensate for their inherent emptiness. this means they incorporate something from each important NPC they get involved with. they are a singer because of Clara and her twin. they only own a lab & got interested in studying & research bc of Dr. Vaughan. they got a taste for exercise bc they accompanied Hephaesta's workouts for so long. and so on and so forth.

[last updated: never. this is my self-callout to write abt recent developments bc ohh boy evolution was an entire year's worth of timeline progression.]

The first thing you notice about them is the cowl lazily draped around their head and shoulders, swaying behind their back like a cape in the colours of sunrise-- or, perhaps most familiarly, the velvety twilight that the newest star every so often provides to London.  The second thing is the deep scars covering one side of their face, and the third thing would probably be the heavy eyebags under their sharp, dark eyes.

A relatively freshly-minted Silverer, H. Reisz spends more time in Parabola than London nowadays. Not that they had been in London for too long anyway, and it's not like anyone knows where they were before that either. The surface, yes, but it's a big world out there, right? They don't actually remember seeing the sun, or the sky, but H cannot deny the soft colours of twilight and sunrise have a special place in their heart. They recognise it without the memory of experiencing it, just like they recognised love in the depths of a certain Labyrinth. Hmm, two Labyrinths, actually. There was that one heiress too... and the Orphanage was inside one hell of a maze too... if they had a coin every time they found themself inside labyrinths, they'd... Uh, where were we? Well, anyway, being a new face, they had nothing to be known for so they simply gave out their surname instead. Or well, what they assumed to be their surname. "H. REISZ" were the letters sewn-in on a diminute corner of the tattered black veil that wrapped their head back when they woke up for the "first" time. They were surrounded by near-empty bottles of dried mouldy honey, absinthe, and who knows what else. Ah, the decadence... they couldn't even remember what honey could do at the time but they could recognise the stench of self-destruction right away, haha.  Alas, if things were so bad they got to that point-- maybe this explains why moving on was so easy. Maybe they had somehow lobotomized themself on purpose. Who knows? They sure don't. It was only now, a year or so after waking up, that an epithet has started to stick around-- specifically by their actions as a Silverer and the services they provided. From nightmare-slaying to fishing out vestigial memories (the irony of an amnesiac doing this is not lost on them) to guiding and safeguarding lost dreamers, their glimmering signature cowl and the way it flowed rather phantasmagorically in Parabola started to leave an impression. To many dreamers, seeing a hint of pastel twilight colors signaled safety. It signaled someone you could trust to get inside your head. :)

Last song: Mayan Pilot by Splashdown, one of my all-time feral obsessions, still feeling like I'm the only person on earth who (still/ever did) listen(s) to them. The vocalist, Melissa Kaplan, sang Beta's Theme in HFW and I about lost my mind when I heard it, I've been listening to her/that band since I was like 13 when they had a song on the Titan A.E. soundtrack.

Last book: Justice for Some by Noura Erakat. That was back in like...October. It was a lot, and a difficult read - not just because of the subject material, but because of its focus on legality and the use of law which made my eyes glaze over. I have a massive to-read list and really need to get back into it.

Last movie: Anora. I thought it was pretty good, it wasn't quite what I expected - I thought it was going to either be super uncomfortable or that it was gonna end up with something horrible happening like everyone dies or something - and it was neither, thankfully. It was pretty fun, I liked all the characters. I thought it was a liiiiitle condescending? At parts? The whole 'Annie vs. Anora' name gag that frames the whole story felt weird, like the movie itself was trying to 'free her from her sex worker life'. She keeps saying she prefers Annie and like...no one cares lol. Idk, it read to me very much as '...yeah but what's, like, your REAL name, babe.' Which, in a movie by a guy who's supposedly very vocally pro-sex-worker felt...weird.

Last TV show: We are currently watching Severance, and I have had to block tags about it lol. Honestly y'all, I can't believe I didn't know about this show sooner! I knew nothing about it until everyone started freaking over s2. We're on like ep...5 I think.

Last thing I Google searched: the solution to the battery puzzle in Alan Wake 2 for one of the cult stashes. That one and the 'wheels' one I look up every time, I did them the first time and that was that.

Looking forward to: I honestly can't think of anything...which is making me kind of sad. Certainly nothing coming up soon I can think of. I'm looking forward to getting a new job, if/when I can find one, and I'm looking forward to us hopefully being able to leave FL (hopefully?) next year.

Current obsession: I am, I think, in between obsessions at the moment lol. I guess you could say I'm still a bit obsessed with AW2, I just finished my XXth playthrough the other day. I'm getting into Severance for sure, but I can't say it's yet reached the level of Current Obsession. We shall see!

-Jan bought a new car bc my most beloved camry's transmission went out </3

-Jun: the troubles. the depression. summertime sadness or whatever at never amounting to anything, our old SM leaving and our new SM being actually so shit at doing anything but traumadumping and the company just constantly punching down to drive sales

-Jul: said fuck sbux. applied to part time at the library and GOT THE JOB YAYYY put two weeks in where i was out of town for the first one lmao

-Mid Jul: well needed 5th anniversary vacation of doing fuck all except swimming and drinking and hanging out with monkeys. and getting engaged yayy

-End of Jul: fucking got covid on our trip. had a playing video games all day with friends like we were 16 before school started again. actually goated.

-Aug: said bye to starbies. hello epic library job. fell in love with it fr. got to visit my college girlies and have a lovely little trip in FL. somehow im addicted to getting new jobs right when i have a trip planned, but it was no biggie.

-Sep-Oct: kind of a memory hole tbh. continued on in my ME playthrough. it was aight. finished out the art fair season

-Nov: applied to the fulltime position that opened at my branch AND NAILED IT we love full time work. do i make as much? no. do i absolutely love my job and what it stands for ? fucking yes. ALSO took a chance and applied to sell my art in a local coffeeshop and was accepted

-Nov cont: art selling success was huge actually and im a bit annoying and confident in my art again

-Dec: popped-up at the coffeeshop in person, had soooo much fun. made a couple of connections AND got into vending at a LNY event. also Christmas was nice and easy

This super cute office romance has me in a chokehold. The art is beautiful, and the MLs moral dilemma is a personal issue he's trying to work through while chasing the FL.

I Can’t Be This Stupid [ completed - currently: 91 chapters ] Doha takes an active role as Rowoon’s secret love consultant, and a romantic life together begins.

A super cute slice-of-life modern romance between two kids on opposite ends of the wealth class—with a little splash of telepathy.

The Villainess Lives Twice [ ongoing - currently: 217 chapters ] But in return for her devotion, Artizea got betrayed. And the one that reaches out his hand to save her from the verge of death is her righteous enemy, Grand Duke Cedrick.

Another unforgettable historical romance where the FL is transported into the villainess' role. Part of the fan translation is messy towards the 100-chapter milestone, but the plot holds up, and I continuously root for the leads in this one.

I'm Not The Final Boss' Lover [ ongoing - currently: 62 chapters ] Jun is prepared to guide Fabian through the second playthrough to the true ending when… Fabian abandons her. Now Grand Duke Mayer Knox—captain of the Dark Knights and the secret final boss—is determined to have her join his party.

I was a total dork about this one. There's a lot of gamer-talk from the FL with historical/fantasy elements. The romance is also perfect (ML falls first, AND harder)

I Thought It's A Common Possession [ ongoing - currently: 77 chapters ] If I was going to die anyway, according to the original, then let’s give a kiss to my handsome husband!

Another villainess isekai (I have a serious obsession). Something about how the FL gets so angsty because they're forced into a role where everyone hates them, and somehow, she manages to get the ML to fall in love with her. UGH, poetry.

The Redemption of Earl Nottingham [ ongoing - currently: 36 chapters ] Madelyn’s husband Ian was left broken after the war, and in turn, made her life a living hell. Fleeing her doomed marriage, she meets a tragic end.

Reincarnation trope! Ahh, love this one. It says it contains mature content, but I don't remember seeing anything—just keep it in mind before you decide to read this one. With miscommunication and pining, the ML really isn't a bad guy; he's just a traumatized eldest child.

Call Me The Devil [ ongoing - currently: 107 ] A plastic surgeon by day and a devil by night, Hyunshin has the power to seduce anyone with his eyes, but somehow, his irresistible temptation does not work on “Lee Na”, who suddenly appeared one day. 

The ML is a devil in this one. I loved it so much. The supporting characters really make this one, though. The little family, all of them together, makes my heart palpitate.

My God Is A Lustful Man [ ongoing - currently: 50 chapters ] Hye-sal, a timid ethics teacher who has lived her whole life without desires, finds that a neighbor who exudes desire and pleasure has moved in next door.

Dionysus is the ML in this, and this Greek mythology manhwa adaption is peak. I love the pining and mythology references. Initially, I found this comic on Webtoon, but I found a better source to read from.

I Can't Wait To Eat You [ ongoing - currently: 59 chapters ] I swore to resent her all my life when I was a kid, so I’m going to stick around to make her life impossible, I’ll make sure to eat her happiness away.

OOO, the ML in this one starts off as a little shit, but he definitely grows on you once he realizes his feelings and becomes the best boyfriend/boss ever.

Extroversion of an Immortal [ ongoing - currently: 55 chapters ] A fairy ‘Cheon Moran’, who killed a woodcutter for stealing her wings and lived like a celebrity while trapped in the human world, was discovered by ‘Sa Jeha’, a detective in charge of a murder case in which she was involved.

This one took a while for me to get attached to because I was constantly getting cliffhangers. I really like what it is so far. I'm heavy into speculating what the angst will become, but so far, the characters are so pretty, and that's my main argument.

Pure Love Operation [ ongoing - currently: 108 chapters ] I saw my boyfriend kissing my best friend. if that wasn’t enough, I was with a guy whose guts I hate from my class, Go Eun-Hyuk.

I'm sure many people have already seen this one, but if you haven't, you should. This was one of the stories that got me back into reading webcomics. The art is beautiful, the plot is gripping, and the romance is literally to die for (because I will never experience Dohwa falling in love with me and I'm so envious of Soo-Ae).

What I Decided To Die For [ completed - currently: 98 chapters ] Cha Gyeol, who met Ji Oh while having all sort of bad thoughts, is completely swoon over by Ji Oh with her dazzling smile. However, the people around Cha Gyeol are somehow dangerous for her to go head over heels with him.

This modern reincarnation romance is so good. I was experiencing turmoil rooting for the ML but it all played out right in the end and I should be so happy for the author LOL

Eaternal Nocturnal [ completed - currently: 101 chapters ] When Eve is visited one night by a mysterious apparition, she finds that her chronic insomnia is miraculously cured. Meanwhile Dae, the dream eater, finds himself unexpectedly and unwillingly drawn to Eve.

I love the author, instantmiso. She also wrote Where Tangents Meet and Siren's Lament, both are completed and I've read. The pining and Dae's character were so satisfying.

The Mafia Nanny [ ongoing - currently: 45 chapters ] Being an Elite Nanny is simple: protect the charge, obey the principle, and don’t get emotionally attached. Easier said than done when Davina’s first client is a dangerously compelling Venetian underboss who’s determined to get under her skin.

The leads in this one have me BARKING. I love a good mafia romance, and this manhwa adaption has me sat and waiting every week for the update. Davina is a badass, and her Venetian employer is such a good father. Some (his son) might even call him daddy. Hehe

Down To Earth [ ongoing - currently: 203 episodes ] Kade lives his average life alone and undisturbed... until a cute alien girl crashes into his backyard! 

I initially read this one because my friend kept harping me about it. It's a very cute, wholesome romance between a depressed dude and a sweet, gorgeous, lovable alien girl who crashes on Earth.

Of Swamp And Sea [ ongoing - currently: 100 chapters ] When a monster hunt gone wrong sets two strangers on the same path, they discover their relationship may be more than strictly professional.

I'll be honest and say I am not entirely caught up on this one, only because it went on hiatus after I got caught up. The relationship between the FL and ML was a little off to me at first because I really thought the FL was a teenager until it was revealed she was in her twenties. But, overall, the development between them is lovely.

I Love Yoo [ ongoing - currently: 254 episodes ] Dogged by pain and misfortune from the very beginning, Shin-Ae decides she wants nothing to do with people nor anything to do with romance.

Another extremely popular one, which should take first priority if you haven't started yet. A modern romance with modern-day problems, but the anguish that each character individually experiences keeps me hooked. I hope they all work through their issues and become their happiest selves. Also, the dad is a little bitch boy.

Act Like You Love Me [ completed - currently: 150 chapters ] When a mix-up at a temp job has her spending a day as famous actor Doyun Nam’s personal assistant, she takes her anger out on a doll... which turns out to have the magical ability to control him at her every whim.

This one was so, SO good. I really loved the second ML, but of course, the primary ML is still a heartthrob. The FL was such a lucky girl to have two successful hotties after her.

unfortunately now I am thinking about the contrasts between Morgan (who was not, I will note again, supposed to be A Character) and their general take of “maybe this isn’t true fulfillment, whatever that is, but this is enough” versus… my main FL playthrough. Heart’s Desire. whatever the conceit of my Mask of the Rose playthrough was, this is the polar opposite.

the really, truly awful thing about Amias is that they don’t know what their heart’s desire is, yet. all the other players are playing for something. they got into this because (initially) they wanted to know if the rumors were true, and because (as they discovered more) they wanted to know the full extent of what the Masters could do. that’s it. that’s all. and it’s a terrible reason to do any of this. and they wouldn’t be doing it if they actually had a single idea what they wanted.

and I’m thinking about that, juxtaposed with someone who was so initially traumatized by the Fall that they sometimes just stared wretchedly off into space when people were talking to them—who was the hardest hit of Horatia’s boarders, who eventually recovered a bleak, honest kind of humor and tried to comfort people who had definitely been doing far better than them, who still needed to be lured into the streets again by Griz getting them a job collecting the census. they didn’t know what they wanted, until they did. they decided that it was worth any kind of risk. but… they did, ultimately, decide to let it take the course it would take. that whatever course it took would be enough.

and I do really want to know why Amias is so unforthcoming with me about their pre-Neath life, because while in most ways their curiosity is about love for and wonder at the world in general, there must be some deep insufficiency that drives them. it wouldn’t have brought them here if it didn’t. they’d be following Isabell around acting like a +Watchful companion and fervently refusing to have anything to do with the actual fighting of the Vake. I’ve thought several times that they’re trying, deep down, to settle the question of their own identity—but there has to be a reason why that was a question.

The whole diving part holy shit.... it's actually on my list of my favorite parts of the game. I wouldn't describe my reaction as "fear" but it's the pit in your stomach sense of watching a good thriller. Knowing my character would survive because they're the player yet feeling the entrapment and slow agony... At the end of the descent I gasped aloud in despair... so good. Creepy AND wet

I’m very new to the game, having picked up FL maybe a month ago as of posting, and not playing very frequently until recently, though I have played a good bit of Sunless Seas. Ambition so I’ll probably have some thoughts about that once I’m a bit further along. I’m always open to talk about OCs and for interactions so just let me know!!

As a note, I’m way more comfortable painting backgrounds and stylized figures than I am drawing character portraits! Portraiture is a very new venture for me!

Currently, all of my FL characters reside in the same apartment, spitting the rent - with Shaw & B living there full time, and Verily largely using the space as a place to crash on land. The two main NPCs, Acumen and Beverley, exist throughout the world! I’m also developing Shaw’s Ex as another PC.

He/They, Somewhere in his Early 40s

An investigator by trade, Shaw is a prickly character who has a mildly extreme obsession with the various languages of the Neath, a fascination that’s gotten them into a good deal of trouble… and left them with a few strange quirks. Unscrupulous at the best of times, he is damn good at his job, when he’s not chasing a bit of escapism by any means necessary. While they’re seemingly a complete hardass, Shaw does have a soft side for a few things: Namely, his assistant, and the urchins of the city.

B is an aspiring playwright and actor with their head in the non-existent clouds and a spring in their step. She always seems to be getting into a little bit of trouble, before charming his way out of it with a smile and a wide eyed look. Everything about their past is a bit of a mystery, though it can’t be denied that they have a good heart While searching for cheap lodgings in London, B ended up with the (mis)fortune of becoming Shaw’s housemate and eventual investigative assistant. The two have a strange friendship, but one that’s changed them both for the better.

B is absolutely, definitely not wanted by the Royal Navy.

The Everdrowned Oblation, Cpt. Verily

She/It, Mid 30s (Maybe?)

Once, a nameless captain offered up her body to her starving crew - her poor planning and lack of discipline leading them all to the brink of oblivion. After a prayer to the gods of the Zee, they took her up on her offer. However, that Captain didn’t quite die. She rose again, and again, and again. Each time with a different past, with different friends in port, with a different story that wasn’t quite her own. A dozen or more ships have taken her down, and each time, she’s risen anew. It knew that it was some boon from the gods - or perhaps, a curse. Either way, the zee will not let Captain Verily go, even after she’s been stripped of everything. One night after a long, long day upon uncertain land, Verily approached the office of a known investigator, a madness in her eyes. It only had one request for August Shaw - “Tell me who I am.”

this game has ruined my ability to pronounce parabola correctly because I already read it as “pair-ah-bola” prior to playing fallen london and then I watched aneurin’s exceptional story playthroughs where he also pronounces capital p Parabola like that. and I spend considerably more time thinking about fl than I do graphs, so I’ll be pronouncing it wrong for the rest of my life.
