Fandom: Kingdom Hearts Characters: Sora, Riku  Rating: T Pairing: Sora/Riku Words: 2,847 Summary: Riku is a young merman who thinks he's found the perfect place to call his future territory. Sneaking away almost daily from his pod, he visits his island to practice essential skills every young merman needs to know. However, one stormy day, a boat comes close to his shores and he has to figure out if he's willing to risk it all to save this hapless human that's fallen in his waters.
His mother always told him about the danger of humans. Humans had nets that snared them, spears that stabbed through them, and they would mercilessly kill any unwary merfolk who happened to cross their path. After his father was caught and murdered by a passing fishing boat when he was still barely a pup, that knowledge was drilled even harder into him. Riku grew up having a healthy fear of humans who bled the seas dry with their insatiable hunger.
Omens.
His mother had explained the word at one point when a much younger Riku had once begged to see the surface. Merfolk were omens of ill fortune to humans, and after centuries of being slaughtered, eaten, captured and sold, they often stuck to deep waters that humans could only dream of traversing.
It was safe.
Here, in the deep waters, they were safe.

If I had to pick a dead character in One Piece to come back to life... I choose Roger, Ace, Whitebeard, Rosinante, Fisher Tiger, Tom, Hiriluk, Toki, Nico Olivia, Otohime, Russian, Scarlett, and Sora. Assuming there are too many for Tiger, Whitebeard, and Roger to carry, Bell-mere and Rouge can handle the rest.

Note
Just how many people who died in One Piece are still alive here? We obviously know about Ace, Law's family and a few others, but anyone else?
Idk I've kinda just been making it up as I go
I'll just make a list for all that come to mind
Dead:
Gol d rodger
Bellmere
Banchina
Hiriluk
Kozuki Oden and toki
Vivi's mom
Otohime
Kuina
Tiger fisher
Tom
Alive:
Clover
White beard
Izou
Monet
Nefertari Cobra
Pedro
Ace
Rouge
Vinsmoke sora
Law's family (cora included)
Hawkins
Thatch
Schrodinger's cat:
Yorkie
That's about it, I don't really have any rhyme or reason to why some are alive but others aren't 🤷‍♀️
Thanks for the ask!

One Piece's New vs Old Flashback Style
This is not an argument about which style is better, just a discussion and analysis on how Oda's writing has changed.
Almost all One Piece flashbacks focus on a Mentor/Mentee relationship. The Mentor dies or something else bad happens to them and the Mentee lives to modern-day, inheriting the Mentor's Will. The main difference between the Old Style and New Style is which one is the Point-Of-View character. In the Old Style, the Mentee is the POV character. In the New Style, the Mentor is the POV character.
You can see a gradual transition away from the Old Style to the New Style.
Luffy: Old Style. Luffy is the Mentee POV, Shanks is the Mentor.
Zoro: Old Style. Zoro is the Mentee POV, Kuina is the Mentor.
Usopp: Old Style. Usopp is the Mentee POV, Banchina is the Mentor (even as short as this one is, it still fits the pattern).
Sanji: Old Style. Sanji is the Mentee POV, Zeff is the Mentor.
Nami: Old Style. Nami is the Mentee POV, Bellemere is the Mentor.
Chopper: Old Style. Chopper is the Mentee POV, Hiriluk is the Mentor.
Vivi: Old Style. Vivi is the Mentee POV, Koza is the Mentor (he teaches her to be bold and have friends, and the bad thing that happens to him is the reveal that he's the leader of the rebels in modern-day).
Skypiea. Old Style. Kalgara is the Mentee POV, Noland is the Mentor (the flashback is a story told to Wyper and begins and ends on Kalgara, he's the main character and Noland teaches him about modern medicine).
Franky: Old Style. Franky is the Mentee POV, Tom is the Mentor.
Robin: Old Style. Robin is the Mentee POV, Saul/Clover are the Mentors.
Brook: Old Style (though I think this is where the New Style starts, since Yorky isn't much of a mentor but Brook serves as a mentor of sorts to Laboon, and it does end with Brook's death).
Ace/Sabo/Luffy: Arguable. If it's Old Style, the mentee POV is Luffy. If it's New Style, though, the mentor POV is Ace. I'm honestly not sure which is more accurate.
Fishman Island: The first half is Old Style. Jimbei is the Mentee POV and Fisher Tiger is the Mentor. The second half is New Style. Otohime is the Mentor POV and Shirahoshi is the Mentee.
Rebecca/Kyros. Rebecca is the Mentee, Kyros is the Mentor. We see this flashback twice, once in the Old Style where Rebecca is the POV and then again in the New Style where Kyros is the POV.
Law/Doflamingo. Law is the Mentee, Corazon is the Mentor. Law's segment is Old Style from his POV, but Doflamingo's segment twists the story into also being New Style from Corazon's POV.
Sanji and Germa: Old Style. Sanji is the Mentee POV, Sora is the Mentor.
Pedro: New Style. Pedro is the Mentor POV, Carrot is the Mentee.
Big Mom: Old Style. Linlin is the Mentee POV, Mother Carmel is the Mentor.
Oden: New Style. Oden is the Mentor POV, Kin'emon is the Mentee.
Yamato: Old Style. Yamato is the Mentee POV, Ushimaru is the Mentor.
Kuma: New Style. Kuma is the Mentor POV, Bonney is the Mentee.
The rare flashbacks that don't fit in either style tend to be really short (Senor Pink, Katakuri, and Kaido), or the Zou Battle, which is more of a recap.
It's also interesting to think about how certain flashbacks would be portrayed differently if they were told in the other style.
Old style flashbacks in the New Style would be like: we see Shanks' life story before he met Luffy, Zeff's life before meeting Sanji, Bellemere's life before adopting Nami, Hiriluk's life before meeting Chopper, Tom's life before adopting Franky, or Fisher Tiger's life before forming the Sun Pirates.
New style flashbacks in the Old Style would be like: we see from Kin'emon's POV and only hear about Oden's pirate adventures, or we see from Bonney's POV and only hear about Kuma's past and Ginny.
I think a lot of this style transition has to do with Oda growing older and identifying more with mentor characters than mentee characters, but also the New Style allows him to cover a much longer period of time, adding in more lore and story. As the story grows bigger and reaches its climax, it necessitates more exposition, and it's easier to do that by telling the life story of an older person meeting a young one rather than the story of a young person meeting an older one.

i am so curious. whos your favorite of organization 13 (the original but the "real" is fine too if u have any particular favorites) . i feel like roxas and xion are obvious answers because if you hate either of them you're just sucks. but other than them
xion is 100% my favourite org member hands down, both her role in the original and the 'real', but if not her then larxene literally showed up for one game, served cunt, was a bitch, and died. and then came back. and i love her so fucking much for it. when she dies in 3 she literally just admits that she didnt give a shit about xehanort shes just there for the drama and i love her so much for it, she also has cool ass knives which i gotta respect her for
she's also just like. an ACTUAL antagonistic original kh female character!! kairi, aqua, xion, namine, olette, and the other original kh girls are all protagonists or at least on the side of light which is cool but it leads to a lot of similarities in characterisation and not much variance. but larxene. she fucking kicked a child then threatened another with her knives. UNAPOLOGETICALLY. then comes back in kh3 in the frozen world and actually makes a good point about having to autonomy of choice. but in general she sucks and i love her for it!! i was recently thinking about either a com roleswap between her and marluxia/a personality swap with them (theyre already relatively similar being co-conspirators and all but slightly stoic and mysterious/ominous larxene and marluxia being more of a taunting bitch about someone sora forgot about and constantly withholding that information just out of reach (which would be a good parallel to his own experience with strelitzia and his whole past) is a dynamic i would love)
her voice acting is also very enjoyable AND my favourite spell is thunder so i gotta give her that. one thing i will say is that i was kinda sad that her remix of the 13th struggle in the kh3 data bosses is the most similar to the original and she doesnt get anything too unique. especially given the fact that saix has ELECTRIC guitars and not her, i really think it wouldve gone hard. my one wish for her in the future (since it looks like ux characters will be relevant) is that they dont just completely erase her personality and let her keep some of that edge, i dont want her to be washed down to another demure, generic supporting female character.
i can also say that my very very least favourite org member is xaldin because i have a strong personal grudge against david dayan fisher (xaldin's eng va) that i cannot say without revealing some very personal information. when i say personal grudge i dont mean theres like an obscure fact about him that i wont ever actually experience or be affected by that i dont like, i mean this is a very real/personal thing that i do not like him for. in person (its not that serious but i love being a hater. and i will never forgive him)

100% Kingdom Hearts 1 (Day 8)
Current Target: Proud Player
I awoke in darkness once again. In game this time. I chose shield and gave up magic once again. I also chose all of the answers that allowed me to leave for my journey at dawn which gave me maximum XP gain. One thing I noticed about Proud Mode off the bat is that Sora appears to be incredibly fragile. Like a strong wind would blow him over.
The heartless in the beginning gave him a gentle back scratch and I thought he was going to disintegrate. Sadly I don’t get to juice up like on Fisher Price difficulty. I didn’t die to the beginning heartless, however. That would’ve been truly tragic. No, I saved death for later. Instead I blazed through the opening as fast as I could while keeping up with cutscenes.
I’d be lying if I didn’t say the opening of this game does pique my interest still to this day. It gives the idea of something more grandiose on the horizon. Something bigger than me that’s happening. But before we know it we’re waking up on Destiny Island and being called a layabout by Kairi, a character that seems to do next to nothing for the entire series. She wants to see other worlds along with Sora and Sora’s hetero life mate Riku.
You’re also on an island with Wakka and Tidus from Final Fantasy 10 and Selphie from Final Fantasy 8. Something I strangely realized is how these three don’t have the same clown shoes our three main characters have. Also, the amount of sand on that beach means those shoes have to be uncomfortable.
Another thing I noticed while watching the cutscenes is how decent the game still looks. Sure it’s been uprezed and smoothed out for the remaster, but even watching old PS2 footage, the game has a charm about it that feels timeless. At any rate, the scamps talk about Kairi showing up one day and making them want to leave their home which I’d forgotten about. Then Riku throws fruit at Sora and talks about it being a destiny snack that he wanted to feed Kairi in order to...I dunno, date? Sora, please, consider getting a personality. That’s better than any cantaloupe.
Now we’re hurled at breakneck speed without warning into the magical Disney castle where Donald Duck goes to greet King Mickey only to find that his majesty fucked off and left a note with his dog. Donald goes to tell Goofy, clearly the most reliable person he could find to tell him about this letter. Unfortunately Minnie and Daisy overhear things and there’s an awkward moment.
Speaking of awkward moments, while hunting for Mushrooms, Sora runs into a creeper in a cave while he’s scribbling his fantasies onto a rock. He starts talking about worlds being connected and doors and has a really rad voice. He’s super cryptic about things and definitely in no way shape or form our primary antagonist for this game.
We finish getting shit for our raft after racing Riku to name the boat, which I happily named “Porkchop” after everyone’s favored cartoon dog. Kairi talks about charms that she’s making and also tries to get Sora to leave Riku behind. I also legitimately forgot that Sora had parents in this one. Or at the very least, guardians. I forgot someone had called him down for dinner but of course he’s gone because Destiny Island is getting it’s shit rocked by Heartless.
Also Donald and Goofy are trying to find someone called a keymaster as well as some dude named Leon. Sora gets a key then goes to a door and ends up in Traverse Town. All in all, the story so far is fairly basic but despite the campiness of these two vastly different art styles existing on the same disk, it’s still a fairly interesting start that I didn’t remember. So far, Proud Mode is also offering a bit more of a challenge, though it’s feeling a little skewed towards “difficult for difficulties sake” but it could be me.
At any rate, the exhaustion from all this attention needing to be paid has left me in a fatigue so now it’s time to rot my brain with pornography and sugary drinks.

Through all the stress lately we've been playing dredge a lot since our partner bought it for us so uh. have our incomplete 'we haven't completed the game yet but have made a lulaw au in our heads anyway' notes they are an ongoing project as we discover more in this fishing game
Luffy - The Fisherman
not even Eldrich Horrors can keep this man from sailing the seas with a pirate flag flying above his head i stg. also,,, something about the shining sun breaking through the fog,,, a hope that fails to dim even in the darkest void of night,,, always reflected in the moon even when you think you're lost,,, ye >w> something like that
this lil boatman that came Out Of Nowhere on his little Merry boat get it and then crashes in the Marrows but is Completed Undisturbed by The Horrors
Despite everyone's continual warnings
But he just Stays Silly and Stays Sailing.
It's not that he can't see the horrors. it's just... he doesn't let it stop him. doesn't let them get him down. they don't bother him; not really. that's just reality- what reality has always been to him. they're no more scary than the world has always been. so, much like the world, he smiles and laughs at them, and keeps going. one day something will kill him, sure; but he's going to keep going and live without regrets until it does.
It's not that he's immune to the fogs hallucinations and effects, mind you. but they get to him Slower, and they never Stop Him.
the boat the mayor gives him he calls the Sunny :) and then he makes everyone's day a little brighter whenever he and the sunny appears across the isles; the little sunshine breaking through The Fog that's encased their world
but he also scares the people of the isles a little. this man came out of nowhere, on a boat unprepared for The Horrors, and yet he is totally at peace sailing Amongst The Horrors. sometimes, when they tilt their heads a little, luffy looks just like Them. his grin a little too wide, his pupils and irises a little too small, and when he tilts his head back at them- red eyes glint back at them and white fog seem to float around him.
and then it's gone again
(also, those who go Mad from Eating What Should Not Be Eaten... they look at him different. shy back, snapping and flinching. 'too bright' they mutter under their breath 'go away')
luffy became a fisher cause shanks was a fisher who visited him on the island his grandpa left him on. shanks left him his hat still, and gramps never came back one year- as did shanks. around the same time the fog rolled into the isles.
ace and sabo both took off on their own too. still gotta place them, i think.
Law - The Collector
the collector feels signficant to the story to us, in addition to just fuckin fitting law's 'i will be a hermit in my lil nerd corner and ominous to those who approach' vibe
Hides away in his little house. Collecting his little coins. and Sora memorabilia. And also the Artifacts to try to Solve the Mystery that Swallowed Cora Whole or smth
I still don't know the Collector's whole deal but also I get the impression. Quest from another, following someone close to him, reading the remains of what they left him, trying to Fix whatever's been left to him? Key Law to Cora behaviour re: Doffy
The Paranoia gets to Law EASILY and HEAVILY unlike luffy and he has a Whole Routine to help him feel Safe and Secure in his little Controlled Safety Bubble on his isolated island
On that note, I feel like Doffy was a Legit Threat in the past and probably heavily involved in the Cora-Fog-Mystery-Thing, but isn't anymore literally, but haunts Law from the Fog
Ye. That feels about right alsdjlgkfdg
Ikkaku - the Shipwright
Key victim #1 of 'I just think she's neat' abuse
I love ikkaku engineer hc and this is Heavily Due To That but also
I think she's sassy and to the point but also willing to help and that's also how I see the shipwright so ( uwu)b deal with it
Penguin and Shachi - the Lighthouse Keeper
I think they take turns on shifts, and keep each other sane- any keep everyone else sane in turn
also she feels Significant to the plot too and given Law's role, it feels right to me to have Peng and Shachi here too.
At least for the moment. I need to get to know her better o3o
so possibly a temporary role but here we are.
Nami - The Trader
She may not be prepared to sale the seas, but not even the devil himself can stop her from Finding Treasure
The most unrealistic part is that she pays Luffy for the shit he finds
I think she probably just sells him food instead lmfao
Appreciates The Fog for the shipwrecked gold it brings her probably
Bepo - The Painter
key victim #2 of 'i just think he's neat' abuse
I just like the idea of Bepo asking for crustaceans to paint Luffy's ship
Painters feel peaceful to me and that's what Bepo is
also. I bet he sends lil shipments of food and shit with Zoro Luffy to make sure Law stays fed ( uwu)b
Zoro - the Courier
Look, he was legit trying to bring the package to Little Marrow.
But then he got lost. and ran into a leviathan. and then got even more lost trying to fight it. and then he found a ship except it wasn't a ship. and now he's here? honestly, if you'd just bring the package to the guy for him, he can get back to drinking
Ends up regularly running into Luffy all over the seas just from getting goddamn lost.
No one employ this man to deliver your package. Please.
Robin - the Researcher
She just wants to do her research man :C and maybe try to get a closer look at the Thing In The Depths of the basin >:3c
A little lonely scientist who feels isolated after her station of research is destroyed for the cause of it's research?? and only finds companionship thanks to one guy who helps her out??? who isn't necessarily said companionship mentioned by himself?!?!
ye thats Robin
Franky - the Dog the guy who's been trying to fix up the resort
if he had legit been a dog, I don't know if Luffy would have actually let him go to Robin.
But I'm a frobin shipper at heart so the dog is now a guy trying to fix up the resort
And then gets dropped at the research station by Luffy to give Robin a kiss keep Robin company ( uwu)b
Brook - the Airman
Listen. You can't give me a man mourning his dead crew but determined to see them put to rest in peace correctly and expect me not to make it brook
That man's story wrecked me. too close to home. i will never be the same ;w;
Luffy collects their instruments from the wrecks to give to him
that's all i've got at the moment but alsdjglfdg i fuckin love this game. it's so calming =w= at least to me. idk, dredge... i can see how it's a horror game but. honestly, it's just. calming. relaxing. asdlkjglkdfg anyway

A lot of folks believe this woman is chilling, when in fact, she may be the one to pull the knife.
These old fucks seem to choose HER lawn consistently to do these odd and sporadic on sight grand slams, when in fact they LIVE in Banchina and Sora’s shared home. They could fight on THEIR lawn, or SAULS lawn or FISHER AND TOMS WORK SHOP AREA but nOoooOo they wanna do it on HER lawn.
Tumblr media
Also, Yorki took a bite out of his leg, the knife is warranted. He’s going to get him like the Burger King spider video.

Radiator Springs/Rusteze-Dinoco Racing Center/Fireball Beach/Thunder Hollow/Thomasville/Florida International Speedway (Cars)
Takes place after Cars 3.
It isn’t combat based. Missions include keeping up with McQueen’s top speed by racing down Radiator Springs’ main street, learning how to turn right to go left at Willy’s Butte, keeping up with Cruz’s top speed on Fireball Beach, avoiding pushy competitors with the Thunder Hollow challengers, and practicing with Cruz at Thomasville, culminating in the Piston Cup race at Florida International Speedway, where the objective is to win against Jackson Storm.
Sora enters the world as a custom-made sports coupe mixing a few real-life sports car models before visits to Luigi’s Casa Della Tires and Ramone’s House of Body Art end with him modified into a next-gen race car sponsored by Dinoco (with Tex’s blessing) and with Cruz’s number.
It’s set during Cruz’s first Piston Cup racing season, so McQueen still has Doc’s colors and spends the Florida race as Sora’s crew chief.
As Sora finishes his story, Mater is certainly unhappy with Xehanort’s actions forcing Sora’s hand. “That dad-gum Xehanort”, he says angrily. Extra points if Sora doesn’t get to the part where Xehanort is dead, then Sarge gets in his face and demands him to teach Xehanort a lesson when he gets back in a militaristic manner. “Is that understood,” Sarge yells. Then Sora tries to correct him, but gets cut off and asked again, “Is that understood,” and has to respond, “Sir, yes, sir!”
Of course, during the top speed races, Luigi is the one to signal the race to begin.
In the Radiator Springs race, Sora’s top speed is tracked by Sheriff’s speed radar, and on Fireball Beach, it’s via Cruz’s personal assistant, Hamilton.
If you fail the “Turn Right to go Left” mission, Sora goes flying into the bed of cacti, and Mater fishes him out.
I know I’ll get hate for this, but Cars 2 elements are here. Heck, maybe Mater can’t be present most for the training because he’s busy with Finn and Holley. After all, does he still owe Holley a first date?
I wanted the player character in this world to be Kairi just so Storm can feel the embarrassment of losing to not one, but two “costume girls”.
The Piston Cup race is announced as a 500-lap race, but no game developer is that malicious to force the player to race 500 laps around an oval, so they’d take after the first Cars game and make it twelve laps with the sun slowly lowering throughout the race.
