I finally have chapter two of the fic up! I hope you decide to give it a read.

Fandom: Kingdom Hearts Characters: Sora, Riku  Rating: T Pairing: Sora/Riku Words: 3,024 Summary: Riku finally talks to his human after bringing him food.

The human began repeating one word over and over and tapping at its chest. Eventually, the word became pronounced enough for Riku to understand. 

“Sora.” 

This was his human. His Sora. 

“Sora,” he repeated with a breathless tone in the human’s own harsh language. Bringing a hand up, he cupped the human’s--Sora’s-- face in his hand. “Sora.” 

Red painted Sora’s cheeks, yet the baring of his teeth this time was almost blinding, obviously pure delight if one could see it. He nodded his head, spiky brown hair bouncing with the action. “Sora.”

You guys reminded me about my mermaid AU so lemme try to explain it

-okay okay so Riku, Sora, and the heart hotel are all members of the same mermaid pod. they're all different kinds of dolphins : )

-when they are younger Riku is obsessed with the surface and the idea of getting to see what's beyond the ocean. However at some point two of Sora's older siblings, Ventus and Vanitas are captured by humans. They never return

-Riku ends up becoming super over protective of his best friend Sora after this and grows wary and mistrusting of of both the surface and humans

-eventually Sora starts sneaking off to go to the surface because he befriends a human there, a girl named Kairi. mermaids are able to take on human appearances when they dry out so Kairi is the only person on the surface who knows what Sora is

-Riku finds out about Sora frequently going to the surface and while he chastises him for it and constantly lectures him on the danger of it he doesn't actively stop Sora either. It's more like he tries to stay with Sora more so he doesn't sneak off to the surface. It's only partially effective and Sora still goes to the surface somewhat frequently

-Until one day he doesn't come home

-Determined to find Sora Riku pushes aside his caution and travels to the surface. He soon meets Kairi and when she introduces herself he recognizes her name and aggressively demands to know where Sora is. Kairi tells him she had no idea Sora never returned home and that she hasn't seen him in over a week.

-This leads to Riku staying on Kairi's couch and borrowing her cousin Lea's clothes. At one point Lea drops by Kairi's apartment and asks what happened to that "Sora kid" and Riku flips out demanding to know where Sora is

-Lea doesn't know he just drops by Kairi's sometimes to hang out. He lives in an apartment's across town with his boyfriend Isa and they both work for a pretty large marine based corporation in the city(The Organization). He and Isa share a car and Isa has to drive him around a lot. He also sometimes talks about the two kids who he met at a skatepark one time who show up at his place randomly.

-Lea he finds out that Riku's a mermaid pretty quick into their conversation. He agrees to help with the search for Sora. He also helps Kairi show Riku how to better blend into the human word which Riku has no interest in doing

-At some point they go to a mall to get Riku new clothes and Kairi and Lea keep having to stop him from interrogating poor mall employees and random strangers. He does however seem to like all the clothing with a cartoon mouse on them

-So where has Sora been this whole time?

-At some point someone in the Organization that Lea and Isa work for found out about Sora being a mermaid and he never returned home because he was captured by the Organization. The Organization has been experimenting on him. Lea and Isa both have no idea of this as they don't have high enough clearance to know that mermaids even exist

-However the higher ups in the organization do know. In fact this isn't the first time they got their hands on one. Several years ago they captured two. Sora's siblings Ventus and Vanitas. Vanitas is the only one still at the Organization. In fact he works for them.

-At some point there was an escape attempt. With the help of the the heir to the company Terra, Ventus attempted to escape. They both disappeared soon after never to be seen again. Fearing for his own life Vanitas joined the Organization. He works there but he doesn't really get paid and his food and shelter are provided by the company's CEO Xehanort so he can't really leave.

-He runs into Sora while Sora is there being experimented on and while Sora seems to recognize him Vanitas refuses to help him remembering what happened to Ventus and Terra

-At some point Isa gets promoted and is told about about the whole mermaid thing. He soon reveals this information to Lea who relays it to Kairi and Riku and they hatch a plan to go save Sora

That's about all I have right now for the main plot. There's definitely a lot more going on especially with Vanitas so feel free to ask if you'd like to know more! There's also more about what happened to Ven and Terra and even a running gag with Demyx ; )

🌸｡*ﾟ+. Excuse me as I casually slide in some older art of a one-off design thing I made for Mermay in 2021 ♡ featuring aspiringroleplays's boy on the right there. ANYWAYS, moving onto the AU! I am lazy and reuse the same lore for all my mer-AUs, specifically because I like what I have for them? But STORYWISE... let's see what we can come up with~

Merfolk have long since been prey to hunters, whether for personal purposes such as marriage or pleasure, or monetary purposes for display and show. There have been other reasons for hunting Merfolk, however, and it is perhaps the most cruel of them all: Their scales are sharper than any blade, and their tears solidify into jewels. This means that many a merperson has suffered through the torture of being forced to shed tears, as well as having their scales individually torn from their tails.

Through the age of pirating and seafaring, Merfolk have grown more and more scarce, believed to be hunted into extinction-- or so the humans thought.

No, the Merfolk only learned from their past mistakes. Many merely used their ability to shift and walk on land in order to blend into the population. Others had migrated away from human settlements, abandoning their usual domains in favor of seeking secluded islands, and in some cases, deeper waters.

Riku was one of such kind, his ancestors having sought refuge deeper beneath the waves, where the light could never reach. The brightest light the young flashlight mer has seen was the light glowing from his own person and family. That is, until he grew curious after seeing a deep diver near their home. Having been warned of getting closer to their kind, Riku was made to promise he would swim the other way the next time he saw them.

His desire to know the unknown was far too great, however, and once he spotted them again exploring the remains of a shipwreck, Riku gave pursuit after they made to leave.

He was caught.

His captors weren't ruthless, however. In discovering the true nature Merfolk, they struck him a deal: He would make them a fortune by merely existing for show, and in turn, they would teach him the ways of life on land. They had even granted him freedom to come and go to and from the sea, so long as he made it to his appointed hour to be showcased to millions upon millions of people.

The deal is good, so he feels.

Little did he know that with one step too far, or any change of plans on his captor's part, that his freedom would cut short with the mere snap of a finger, and Riku wasn't so clever as he thought. With how Merfolk couldn't speak above water, it wasn't as if he could speak for himself if... no, when the moment came...

I feel like in the last week, my own expectations for what I want out of an animation has shot up a whole another degree. So I keep having to complete redo/reconceptualize old drawings. We’ll see if the paopu one ever gets finished!

The last one, I just liked how Sora looked in his last sketch on the right. His face has a cutely inquisitive expression. Mer-Riku is kind of trying to hide in the sand/coral, but it isn’t working out so good…

Because of the high level of detail that can go into animation, I’m really a nerd for this kind of behind the scenes stuff, and so have continued to post little WIP snap-shots…

Saturday, November 30 — SWYNRP Character Wishlist: A list of 10+ characters you’d like to see in the RP (for you to play or someone else!) 

Lucky Cricket from Mulan

My fc suggestions below for a fun premise I promise: Minghao from SVT, Renjun and Yangyang from NCT. But honestly plenty of other options, I just know these guys would have sources.

So this one is a specific pitch I have (though it could be another character, Cricket just fits for a few reasons), where Cricket is [redacted muse in the work’s] older brother. Future national dragon of China. You’d have a cool Dragon character, and who doesn’t want that? And also, a built in annoying little bro <3

2. Roland from 101 dalmatians - finish up the triplet trio! Gonna keep promoting and requesting for the last triplet of the Doyle siblings. I really want to see how the dynamic would be with Roland that argued with Lucky and how Pepper would play into it. I want the sibling drama pls. Someone finally pick him up!

3. One of Finn’s cousins! My pitches were Alex from Little Mermaid 2, Plank from Sophia the First, Fluke, Stevie I’m working on a plot for Finn that dives deeper into his family story and his history and his pod and I really really would love to see one or two of his cousins getting picked up!

Alex from the little mermaid 2. There’s not really much on him so you could develop him however you like. I like the idea of him being a same age cousin or maybe a year older or younger than Finn. It’d be interesting to have a perspective of someone who has grown up in the sea, vs Finn who’s been very land based. I’d love to see what kind of dynamic we could get from that.

He could be very anti-mundus if you want him to be, or even anti-most other than mer, depending on what you prefer. I could picture if this were one of Finn’s cousins he could be fiercely overprotective of the people from his pod and have really good complex energy to work with.

Finn is so introverted and tries to avoid attention, so to meet a cousin that actively seeks it and is a lot bolder than him would be super super interesting.

A flirtier cousin could also be interesting to play off of, considering how very demi Finn is about romantic things and all that kind of stuff. You would have plenty of leeway developing a muse off this here cause there really isn’t much said on Stevie.

4. Mulan from Mulan! I just think it’d be nice to have a Mulan about and stick it out. Mulan is so cool and as someone who has an interest in the Dragons, I would love to see some Dragons join the rp and stuff. Mulan would be dope!! Get Mulan!!

5. Sheldon from Finding Nemo This stems from a fantasy I still kind of have of a best bro from California popping up to vibe with Tad for a while. Some fun dumb stoner or skater energy or surfer energy would be great to have in town. I think Sheldon could be a super fun character to toss out there.

6. Peter Pan! From Peter Pan! Honestly? For a brief moment I actually considered getting Peter Pan. He’s sort of appeared here and there in my thoughts but I could never piece together enough to make that work. So I leave it to you all and humbly request someone bring him in! I’d love for that connection with him and Tink. I’m sure we could make it a tad unhinged too. It’d be great. Someone bring him!

7. Riku from Kingdom Hearts/Kingdom Hearts characters This is ALSO a character I have considered, but personally would love someone to take him away from me as a thought. I love Riku. I love the Kingdom Hearts game. In an ideal world I’d bring the trio of Riku, Sora and Kairi in the rp together with some people. But alas. So my pitch is Riku! I’ll even pitch you a fc. It’s the hottie from One Piece Mackenyu! He’d be perfect seriously. Someone do it for me.

8. Morgana Halloran from Little Mermaid 2 Also someone I considered because I think the whole price magic stuff is so interesting. And I was thinking how fun it would be to bring her and Ursula in at the same time as a duo and how they could both create chaos in such different ways. I don’t have the space for the idea rn so I will it to one of you too. Someone bring her.

9. Jackson Storm from Cars Funny story, I briefly considered Jackson Storm as a possibility for who Shang is now. LOL. Honestly for the best. Jackson Wang for Jackson Storm too on the nose and meh. But Jackson Storm is a me type character too and I think it should be a one of you type characters. Bring in some trouble for Lightning or something.

10. Shan Yu from Mulan Is this wrimo just me requesting a ton of Mulan characters? Idk maybe. But it’s a travesty that more of them aren’t taken! And I’d really love to see more villains in the rp. I say this knowing I haven’t invested in a villain character myself in a while. But still, it’d be very cool to see him in action in rp!

11. Meilin Lee from Turning Red I actually have considered her mom Ming in the past. And she’s also a thought sometimes swirling around in this brain. So it’d be really cool to see a Meilin running around the rp, pandaing it up. She’s a lil cutie. She deserves some love and to be written imo.

12. Peter Pete Jr. “PJ” from A Goofy Movie Also a boy I have considered before and he’s way in the background of my mind. I think he’d be a character with SUCH an interesting dynamic with his dad. And I apparently really enjoy stories with tensions with father figures and how that plays out I guess. Dunno why that could be. Lol. Anyway someone get him.

13. 4Town Boys from Turning Red Another thing where I dream of a group of us committing and getting them all together. I think it’d be neat. I love the 4Town Boys. I think they could be super fun in the vocal clubs at uni too. I would like to see them in play.

14. Jimmy Ling from Mulan Same sitch as Shan Yu, I’d like to see him about.

15. Yao Tang from Mulan Likewise, I am on an agenda of encouraging more Mulan characters. Yao Tang would be a fun character to see. Someone get him. Do it do it.

For as long as he could remember, he was always told not to approach the sea. That there were dangerous monsters, hiding beneath its depths and lurking around its border. He was told of sinister sirens who sang only to drown others, and of kelpies who would drag innocent people under the waves, never to be seen again.

Still, he kept going back, especially when everything about the sea called to him, and there was no way he would leave that clumsy red-haired mer alone (Not when he could barely take his eyes off him).

Did some experimentation tonight, playing with color palettes and brushes. I think I’ve found a technique I’m gonna use for one of my upcoming zine pieces, so that’s good! :) I think I’m gonna ditch my original palette choice, though, and find something a bit richer.

Sneaking away almost daily from his pod, he visits his island to practice essential skills every young merman needs to know. However, one stormy day, a boat comes close to his shores and he has to figure out if he's willing to risk it all to save this hapless human that's fallen in his waters.

His mother always told him about the danger of humans. Humans had nets that snared them, spears that stabbed through them, and they would mercilessly kill any unwary merfolk who happened to cross their path. After his father was caught and murdered by a passing fishing boat when he was still barely a pup, that knowledge was drilled even harder into him. Riku grew up having a healthy fear of humans who bled the seas dry with their insatiable hunger. 

Omens. 

His mother had explained the word at one point when a much younger Riku had once begged to see the surface. Merfolk were omens of ill fortune to humans, and after centuries of being slaughtered, eaten, captured and sold, they often stuck to deep waters that humans could only dream of traversing. 

It was safe.

Here, in the deep waters, they were safe.

It's not like it's even very much, all things considered - a simple seashell, a brilliant, gradient blue, from the deepest depths to the lightest foams of the ocean, bound on string that almost looks sea-worn, but he knows is stronger than anything. Lightly placed within Sora's palm, he struggles to keep his gaze for more than maybe two seconds. "It's not much.... but I thought you might like it."

      It really wasn’t much like Riku said, but he was right. Sora was a sucker for anything related to the ocean and he loved it immediately.

      Perhaps he should have been a bit more concerned, having turned into a fish the day after his sixteenth birthday, given something from the sea. but the color was entrancing and felt like home to him. Strange to think since he had never lived in the ocean. The next few days were going to be crazy trying to figure out his own feelings and emotions.

      But in the meantime he would at least enjoy Riku’s kind gesture. Taking the shell from Riku Sora took a minute to admire it up close then tied the cord around his neck. “Check it out!” He grinned, tilting his head back for better viewing. “We match now! I mean... It’s no pearl but it’s just as important!” His own gift from the sea- from Riku, who was also steadily becoming a gift from the sea each passing day.

      “Thank you, Riku. I’ll never take it off, okay? I’m gonna make this my new lucky charm!”
