Misunderstood Villain

Prepare for an onslaught of both the most dehumanizing and hateful takes, and flood of thirst comments. you are chronically misunderstood. whether or not you're actually evil is debatable. you may be acting out for revenge, to defend someone you love, or even just to protect yourself. you're a pretty jaded person. you don't trust or even really like most people. maybe you did at one point. but that part of you is gone, and you don't go a single day without grieving it. you think a lot about what your life could have been. you're stuck in the past. you're angry and maybe you don't even want to be, but this is the only way you can see to survive. you're open, but less in a trusting way and more like a wound. you don't like to let people see you, but the hurt spills out of you before you can stop it. you're impulsive, even as you try hard to plan and prepare. maybe someday your side of the story will finally be heard. until then, you can convince yourself that being hated is safer anyway.

Noemí: What a pleasure to finally meet you.

Caruso: Thank you. I see where your daughter got her good looks from.

Noemí: Oh my! How flattering.

Ángel: Um... is he really using his phone at the dinner table?

Noemí: It's so nice to have every seat filled up at the table! Now we wait for the grandchildren to come.

Erick: [Whispers] Are you seeing what I'm seeing...

Pavan is completely oblivious, too in love with Ángel to notice anything.

Ángel: [Whispers] Yeah...

Erick: I'll give him another chance... Nice shirt, what's your favorite album of theirs?

Caruso: Oh, I don't listen to this band. Their music is boring. I thought the design on the shirt looked rad as hell.

Erick: I see.... please excuse me.

Noemí: Your agua fresca is amazing! It's agua de pepino, right?

Caruso: ...Agua... fresca? No, no. This is my creation! I call it "spa water."

Noemí: Oh... clever.

Ángel: I'm not sure if my drawing is conveying the message y'know?

Pavan: Looks great to me. The colors play into the theme of not escaping one's past.

Ángel: Ah perfect. I was going to sign myself up for Color Theory 101 again.

Caruso: Color theory? What's there to theorize? Colors exist, obviously. Just look everywhere, haha. Am I right or am I right?

Ángel: Is this a joke?

Noemí: Ahem... Mija, can you come help sing a lullaby to the fish? They won't sleep.

Dulce: Oh we have pet fish now? Since when do fish need music to sleep anyway? [Says quietly] Also, I sing well?

Caruso: Yeah you sing beautifully.

I think there probably was part of Gortash dreading Melkior actually showing up again. Like oh god it took me like half a decade of psychological manipulation/love bombing/bribes/weird psychosexual power games to get this guy in my pocket the first time. Now I have to do it again while his brain is full of holes and there's a time limit of the eldritch god we enslaved running out of tasks to occupy her.

Then he watches him go so very still on "my favorite assassin" and the first thing out of his mouth is a real soft "I was...your favorite? " and he realizes he actually just gets to deal with a version of Melkior without the defense mechanisms learned from a decade raised with the AutoCannibalism family. All that's left is the desperate need to be adored and the deepseated fear of himself. If he thought he had this guy eating out of the palm of his hand before-

There has been only one time I saw my father angry. The weather was foul and he was late on his trip to the butcher's. I was terribly hungry. The dog was only a little bigger than me. Father found me on the floor, blood dripping from my beak, a sight probably not much different from wolves crouching over killed lambs that I have seen many times since. He rushed toward me and tore me away from the dead dog, demanding in a harsh voice to explain what have I done. I was not afraid, but the image of the man I knew was changed. I did not like it. I stood motionlessly, same as him, staring at him like he stared at the half-eaten corpse, until his shoulders sagged and he turned to me with a sigh. "No, it is wrong to blame you. I never explained to you why we eat only some animals. Please forgive me." He knelt on the floor and I carefully approached him until I was close enough for him to take my hand. I sat down even closer and let him wipe the blood off my beak. "Do you understand why I was angry?" His voice no longer held any anger. This was another lesson. Yes, I signed. Speaking required effort I was not in a state to make. You liked the dog. While he continued to clean my face, I stared at what I could see of the dog from behind his back. I recalled those speckled paws leaning against my father's chest to welcome him home every day. I had held no affection for the dog since it had always avoided me with clear distrust, but it had always been affectionate with father. And now all of that would be gone only due to my impatience. I signed again. I am sorry. My father paused and looked me in the eyes. "It's alright. I forgive you."
