⚠️ The general election in the Republic of Ireland is happening tomorrow, November 29th⚠️
Here’s what you need to know if you are a leftist/ just want Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael out of government.
Firstly, why do we need to get them out?
Because they have been in power for almost 100 years! 100 years of a “centre” right government. We have not even had a centre left government in all this time, never mind a left government. Something has to fucking change. Even if you’re not a socialist like me, you have to acknowledge that all the problems currently in Ireland have been caused, or at least not dealt with by them. They’re the ones in power! And yet they talk about the issues in Ireland and how something has to be done… Simon Harris is a joke with his “a new energy” signs. Cunt you’re the current fucking Taoiseach!
So, who should you vote for?
If you truly want change, and a government that is for the people, vote People Before Profit number one. They are actually putting actions behind their words. They have explicitly said that they will refuse to go into government with FF or FG. They want the other left parties to form a left coalition with them, and also make a stand to refuse a right government. Other left parties, however, are quite lukewarm on the situation, and won’t join the coalition. But still put other left parties for number two and three. Some are more preferable than others. But change is change.
Ok if you’re not a socialist like me, there are other options. Sinn Féin is centre left, so if a bit more conservative than others. This makes it the third most voted for party generally. It’s a bit more palatable to the general public than the commies I vote for lol. I don’t agree with the majority of their policies, especially with them dialling back their support for trans people. I assume to appeal to FF and FG supporters. As a trans person I wouldn’t personally vote for them. But I understand the logic of being strategic about your vote. They’re the most likely to win out of the left parties.
Why should you still vote for parties that likely won’t win the overall vote?
Because they will still get seats! This isn’t a presidential election where it’s all or nothing. The majority winner gets to be the ones in power. But this is a democracy. More votes for a party means more seats for them in the Dáil. So it does matter.
What is each party’s stance on taking action against Israel?
Here’s a very helpful graphic from the ucd bds group on Instagram (ucd_bds):
Tumblr media
See FF and FG’s stance? Exactly.
Who you should definitely not vote for?
Aontú are literal nazis. Their main selling point is that they hate immigrants. They want to strip their rights and practically stop immigration all together. They also hate women, and want to criminalise abortion again. The members of the party were big parts of the pro life movement that tried to stop the abortion referendum. Of course they also hate trans and queer people. Basically any and all minorities. They aim to bring fascism to our government. Don’t let this happen. This is also why voting is so important, so we can prevent this.
And this should go without saying, but don’t fucking vote for the joker independent candidates that have signs around saying shit like “make crime illegal”. It’s not even a joke to vote for them. You’re an asshole if you throw your vote away like that.
Remember to find out where your local polling station is, and bring your polling card, on Friday the 29th of November.

No but seriously imagine it:
You're at the Irish General Election. Everyone is having a terrible time. Fine Gael seems a little too excited. "We have a surprise for you guys." Simon Harris says. All of a sudden Fianna Fáil comes out and starts singing "Coalition Government 4ever" When Micheál Martin gets to the chorus, someone else starts singing...
"Make Crime Illegal.''
Lights flash everywhere, and you see Fine Gael start singing their theme song "Cost of Living Crisis" along with Fianna Fáil, while Nick Delehanty and the Independents are singing his campaign slogan ''Make Crime Illegal.''
Everyone in the crowd is going wild and crying out in pain. Then, when we all hit rock bottom, Richard Boyd Barrett and the rest of People Before Profit storm onto the stage, holding the socialist flag and a gun.

US diplomat is now trying to intervene in Irish politics
Of course, the Free State government likes to show their bellies in defeat, for they might be doing something that is morally right for once in their lives.

Michael Noonan - Fine Gael
Michael Noonan, former Fine Gael finance minister. A bull of a bald man, with piercing, dark eyes.
Tumblr media
How comes Ireland gets so many handsome, solid, sensible politicians, whilst here in the UK we are stuck with a stream of thick (i.e. stupid), ugly, incompetent wankers?
Tumblr media
Wouldn't say no to that.
Tumblr media
Looks good with his specs on as well.

Don't make him angry,,.

Worry grows over looming EU-South America trade deal
The Irish Farmers’ Association has said the EU cannot provide consumers with the same standardised guarantees on food from the bloc’s countries, The Journal reports.
There is growing concern about a potential trade deal between the EU and members of South American trade bloc Mercosur over the impact it could have on Irish farmers and businesses.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said in recent days that a deal may not be far off. She landed in Uruguay last night and told reporters that an agreement was “in sight”.
The two sides have been negotiating a trade agreement since 1999 that aims to abolish import taxes between the EU and the countries of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. This would create a free trade zone with a population of 700 million.
Ireland, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Poland and Austria have voiced their doubts about the deal.
Thomas Duffy, a farmer from Co Cavan, wrote in The Journal this week that farmers are also concerned about the lower standards and traceability of Brazilian beef production, particularly the use of hormones and deforestation.
It is currently unclear, but highly unlikely, that the trade agreement will require farmers in participating countries to adhere to European standards and a traceability model. This, despite the fact that produce from these countries is generally of good quality, is causing serious discontent amongst food producers in Ireland.
Speaking on RTÉ Radio One’s Irish Morning programme this morning, Declan Hanrahan, chairman of the Irish Farmers’ Association’s livestock committee, said products would not meet the standards set by the European Commission. He also added:
“We (in Ireland) work under high standards, high traceability, from farm to fork. It comes at an additional cost to our production base. We have a family-farm model across Europe and across Ireland, which is the envy of a lot of world production.”
Many farmers believe that once a large free trade zone is established, South American producers could lose out to European traders because margins may be smaller in the Latin market. Hanrahan said:
“This deal is an insult to Europe, Irish farmers, European farmers and mostly European consumers.”
He claims the European Commission, which is about to agree to the deal, will not be able to guarantee some of the produce that will reach the European market.
Farmers also call the agreement hypocritical in the context of the EU’s main climate policy, the Green Deal. They argue that countries such as Brazil are being rewarded despite record levels of deforestation in the Amazon in 2022.
Yesterday, French President Emmanuel Macron called von der Leyen to voice his doubts about the deal. He called the deal “unacceptable.”
Independent Ireland MEP Ciaran Mullooly, non-party MEP for Luke “Ming” Flanagan and Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan also spoke out against the deal. Fine Gael MP Sean Kelly told RTÉ News this morning that he will meet von der Leyen next week and raise the concerns of Irish farmers.
Countries such as Spain and Germany have welcomed the deal as they believe it will favour the sale and distribution of wine and cars respectively. The European Wine Industries Committee welcomes the deal.
Any agreement must first be ratified by a majority of members of the European Council, which includes Taoiseach and other European leaders, before getting the green light from MEPs in the European Parliament.
This week, the European Parliament’s trade committee approved a motion welcoming any potential deal that could emerge from von der Leyen’s visit to Uruguay.

Irish Fascism: An Examination of a Political Fringe, and a slow return.
Fascism, a political ideology that rose to prominence in Europe during the early 20th century, left deep imprints on the history of several countries, from Mussolini’s Italy to Hitler’s Germany and Franco’s Spain. In Ireland, however, fascism remained a relatively marginal movement, confined to small groups and figures that never gained mass political support. Yet, Irish fascism was a significant…
