okay, i tried my hand at making some potential fictionkin symbols! i like the inkwell, but i also really like the simplicity of symbols like the theta delta and alt key, which are very easy to draw lines and curves but are quickly recognizable.
the first two are different symbols for pluto, combined with the greek letter phi which makes the "f" sound. pluto, symbolically, can be associated with transformation and rebirth, which are both things that many fictionkin have experienced, being "transformed" from your fictional self to your current body, or being "reborn" into this new life if you're a more spiritual 'kin.
the last one is the symbol for arsenic combined with phi. it also means transformation, in alchemical symbolism, and change.
the idea is that you're "f"ictionally "transformed", and "changed" into your current self see?
the first two could be represented through unicode using the ⯔, or ⯓, plus Φ. there isn't a unicode for this version of arsenic
then there's these similar alternates
i think the arsenic one ends up the most a mess, but maybe that's just from staring at it?
the idea is that with just the one line, it's combining the symbol for salt with the letter phi to create the symbol for earth. salt alchemically represents the body, while earth is obviously grounding and focused on physical matters. so it symbolizes that though there has been a "f"iction-based "transformation" and a "rebirth", you're still grounded in your body and your self. through all the different selves, you're still you, and we can all come together
personally i think i like the second design best from both lines but maybe if i'd edited it so the circle was bigger on the first pluto symbols they'd look better? idk. anyway i hope other people like one of these ideas
the first two could be represented through the same unicode and then ⊕ instead of phi.
#fictionkin#fictionkin symbol#fictionkin symbol suggestion#coining#<- i think thats the word people have been using for this sort of thing? like you're coining new genders and symbols?#if i used that wrong let me know#otherkin#alterhuman#since fictionkin falls under those umbrellas

Website Update and Announcement For Major Project
Our website, The Chimeras Library, has been updated.
Changes include:
An Updated "Symbols Found In The Alterhuman Communities" which now includes the symbols for endels, archetropes, and conceptkin!
An overhauled "A Deeper Look Into Cladotherianthropy."
Added a Spanish translation of "A Timeline of the Therianthrope Community." Translated by the alterhuman aike.
Added a Spanish translation of "A Timeline of the Fictionkin Community." Translated by the alterhuman aike.
Added a Spanish translation of "A Timeline of the Alterhuman Community." Translated by the alterhuman aike.
Added a Spanish translation of "A Timeline of Plant-Identified People in the Otherkin Communities." Translated by the alterhuman aike.
We're also happy to announce a major project we hope to be sharing in the near future.
The Chimeras Archive.
The Chimeras Archive will consist of an ever updating link to a Zotero account hosting citations for the over 500 items of various media related to the alterhuman community, mentioning alterhumans, or of interest to alerhumanity.
Categories that will be included: academic books, dissertations, journal articles, academic lectures, theses, non-academic books, documentaries, lecture or convention panels, magazine articles, zines, TV broadcasts, newspaper articles, radio broadcasts, podcasts, novels, comics, games, movies, plays, and more.
The Chimeras Archive is an updated version of a project we have been working on for the past decade. We are committed to collecting materials as they relate to alterhuman and sharing their existence with others. This includes not only collecting the citations of these many different kinds of media but also acquiring physical/digital copies of these materials.
Unlike our other projects which have designated versions published in pdf form. Our plan is to instead run a live and updating Zotero listing and a document where the same information will be listed in written form.
As this is a massive overhaul of our existing project, the completion into these two formats is taking a significant amount of time please see our "Academic Publications, Non-Academic Publications, Media, Art, and Fiction Related To Nonhumanity" for the previous rendition of this project in the mean time. We plan on releasing links to our Zotero and the live document in the near future once we have had a chance to better layout the groundwork for them.

I think we need a more specific and recognizable symbol for the otherkin community. Seven pointed stars are already used by lots of other communities and have a ton of different meanings. Even the fairy star specifically is not mainly used by the otherkin community. If I search for the meaning of a seven pointed star or the fairy star specifically, the otherkin community is never mentioned. If I see someone in public with a fairy star, I have no way of knowing if they are otherkin or if they are using it for some other spirituality or meaning, or even if they just like the look of a seven pointed star.
I like the fairy star symbol, I even made a necklace for myself with the fairy star layered over my soul, but it just isn't useful in the way that it could and should be.
My suggestion is to combine the fairy star with another symbol to make it more specific. Customize it a bit to make a new otherkin star, instead of just using that preexisting symbol.
I don't know much about symbolism so I don't know of any specific symbols that would work well for this, but I think something representing connection, maybe a connection between worlds or something, would be good. Even as a mostly psychological fiction kin, i feel my identity is very much due to a connection with that other world and that other life, and I think that is a common theme with this community. I don't know if that represents the otherkin community overall though, so I would really love to get suggestions from you all! I will keep trying to think of possible combinations and hopefully soon I will be making another post with rough drafts but getting ideas from other people would help a lot.

alright, if this is too detailed or specific let me know, i dont want to burden you!
but i made my own symbol for fictionkin, seen here:
https://www.tumblr.com/roughentumble/770583801102499840?source=share
a sortve curved f crossed with a reference mark.
and i was wondering if it would be at all possible to get a simple blinkie that reads "fictionkin", perhaps a black/white/grey color scheme but whatever you think looks best, but also incorporates the symbol, either redrawn by yourself to fit the size of the blinkie or just resized from one of my images of my drawings. thank you for your time!
#blinkees#blinkies#flashing gif#requests#150x20#fictionkin#redrew the symbol because the linework was a liiiittle too thin for resizing so hopefully i got it accurate enough!! :D#ive also attached just the symbol by itself in case you need a tiny pixel version of it for anything ^.^#also the request wasnt too detailed or specific no worries!!

The kinfluid symbol
(not transparent, transparent, green screen)
Kinfluid - an alterhuman whose therio/kintype is fluid
or
A polykin whose therio/kintypes change intensity
The term was not coined by me, but the symbol is created by me.
The wave represents the fluidity of identity. The triangle represents alterhumanity.
Feel free to use it in your flags or repost it in some way. Credit is not needed, but appreciated.

ok double kinfession bcs im very kar’niss today but like…. i was def much younger than i look. in game (and in my canon) i look about 350 aka about 40 ish for a human, but i was definitely only a bit above 200 (mid ish 20s for a human). my drider transformation was probably so stressful on my body that i aged a good bit
that, or being absolutely mindfucked by Lolth just made me regress a bit in maturity. both equally likely possibilities.

may I ask why you don't like the f key? is it just that it kinda looks like a drawing of a butt lol
It's not a clear symbol, its meaning isn't clear both color-wise and symbol-wise. It also looks ugly as shit, in my personal opinion, and even on the original poll from 2016 quite a lot of people voiced their dislike of the collective options.
#as a community I feel like we cna do better than F is for Fictionkin in our symbols yknow?#nad yeah the symbol looks...bad. it just looks bad

30 Day Fictionkind Challenge Day 16
Q: What are your thoughts on symbols, flags, etc.?
A: They're cool! I just wish there was a commonly agreed upon symbol/flag for fictionkind that I liked. Otherkin and therians have easily recognizable symbols that unify the community and make stuff like merch and profile customization easy, but I don't see the same with fictionkind.
Take my commentary with a grain of salt, though, I haven't been in the community long. If I'm wrong about anything, I'd love to be corrected.
I'm acquainted with the symbol that looks like an F-shaped key in a Venn diagram, but it's not my style, personally. Which is unfortunate, because it's the most well known symbol, from what I've seen.
I really like the inkwell one with the eye on it! I think it rips, but I rarely see it. Still, if I had to choose one to use for myself, I'd go with that one. Well...I suppose the only way for a symbol to become well-known is to get out there and use it! I'll think about it.
On the subject of flags, I see many different fictionkin-related flags when I look it up, and think they look nice. It's a cool concept too, to have a flag for us or to make one for a specific fictotype. But again, I never see them being used out in the wild by the community.
I also have mixed feelings about accounts dedicated to making flags and symbols, including ones that don't apply to their own experience. If I were to see fictionkind and fictotype symbols and flags, I'd want them to be created by those using their own experience as the fuel for it. It feels more inspired that way, and guarantees at least one person will be using it instead of just letting it fade into obscurity in the digital landscape.
Overall, I guess I'd say I like symbols, flags, etc. as a concept? I think it's a great way to express yourself (creatively too if you're the one making it). It could also make for an easy way for us to recognize each other (both on and offline) without having to up and ask. I just think it's a shame it's such a divisive topic, and as such, recognizing each other non-verbally is difficult.
#fictionkin#30 day fictionkind challenge#kin stuff#let me know when you guys agree on a symbol so i can bedazzle myself with it!#<- i'm being silly on purpose but i do think it'd be cool to have fictionkind merch someday

new idea for a fictionkin symbol
it's a stylized lowercase f, with dots for visual appeal and also to include elements of the "※" reference mark! the reference mark is used to highlight text like an asterisk, showing what's important and bringing emphasis to what needs to be seen. here, with the f, it highlights the importance of our community! not to the exclusion of other alterhuman communities, of course, just celebrating ourselves. it also has elements of an infinity symbol, showing how our lives are "loops", elements of something previous carrying on eternally into the future!
the gaps also mean they can be linked together like a chain, to show intercommunity resilience and cooperation and unity! two infinity symbols woven together to encompass everything good about the community and highlighted to show love for all our fictional sources, from characters to species and beyond!

Working on an art piece for a project of ours that involves the Fictionkin symbol.
...you know what bothers me about the symbol the most? Its. Not. Centered! And because of what isn't centered being what it is, it can't be.
See, if the "F" is centered between the two large circles it can't be centered with the smaller circle. If the F is centered with the circle, it's not centered with that larger circles. Etc. Because of the design something has to be off center... and it bothers me. And I don't know why!
It is such a tiny detail, but I always notice it.
