#otherkin symbol

I think we need a more specific and recognizable symbol for the otherkin community. Seven pointed stars are already used by lots of other communities and have a ton of different meanings. Even the fairy star specifically is not mainly used by the otherkin community. If I search for the meaning of a seven pointed star or the fairy star specifically, the otherkin community is never mentioned. If I see someone in public with a fairy star, I have no way of knowing if they are otherkin or if they are using it for some other spirituality or meaning, or even if they just like the look of a seven pointed star.

I like the fairy star symbol, I even made a necklace for myself with the fairy star layered over my soul, but it just isn't useful in the way that it could and should be.

My suggestion is to combine the fairy star with another symbol to make it more specific. Customize it a bit to make a new otherkin star, instead of just using that preexisting symbol.

I don't know much about symbolism so I don't know of any specific symbols that would work well for this, but I think something representing connection, maybe a connection between worlds or something, would be good. Even as a mostly psychological fiction kin, i feel my identity is very much due to a connection with that other world and that other life, and I think that is a common theme with this community. I don't know if that represents the otherkin community overall though, so I would really love to get suggestions from you all! I will keep trying to think of possible combinations and hopefully soon I will be making another post with rough drafts but getting ideas from other people would help a lot.

Website Update and Announcement For Major Project

Our website, The Chimeras Library, has been updated.

Changes include:

An Updated "Symbols Found In The Alterhuman Communities" which now includes the symbols for endels, archetropes, and conceptkin!

An overhauled "A Deeper Look Into Cladotherianthropy."

Added a Spanish translation of  "A Timeline of the Therianthrope Community." Translated by the alterhuman aike.

The Chimeras Archive.

The Chimeras Archive will consist of an ever updating link to a Zotero account hosting citations for the over 500 items of various media related to the alterhuman community, mentioning alterhumans, or of interest to alerhumanity.

Categories that will be included: academic books, dissertations, journal articles, academic lectures, theses, non-academic books, documentaries, lecture or convention panels, magazine articles, zines, TV broadcasts, newspaper articles, radio broadcasts, podcasts, novels, comics, games, movies, plays, and more.

The Chimeras Archive is an updated version of a project we have been working on for the past decade. We are committed to collecting materials as they relate to alterhuman and sharing their existence with others. This includes not only collecting the citations of these many different kinds of media but also acquiring physical/digital copies of these materials.

Unlike our other projects which have designated versions published in pdf form. Our plan is to instead run a live and updating Zotero listing and a document where the same information will be listed in written form.

As this is a massive overhaul of our existing project, the completion into these two formats is taking a significant amount of time please see our "Academic Publications, Non-Academic Publications, Media, Art, and Fiction Related To Nonhumanity" for the previous rendition of this project in the mean time. We plan on releasing links to our Zotero and the live document in the near future once we have had a chance to better layout the groundwork for them.

Naturesoul/naturanimae

Here are all informations about alterhuman term naturesoul (or naturanimae). I hope this term will become one of the official alterhuman terms, along with flag and symbol, will appear in alterhuman and otherkin wikis one day and will help those who can't really identify with all these terms that already exist. If you can reblog this post or share with others, I would be really grateful, I hope more beings will recognize this and there will be beings that identify as naturesoul. :)

Definition:

Naturesoul or naturanimae (from latin: naturae = nature + animae = soul, can be translated as "natural soul") is alterhuman term (label) for souls who can't feel full connection with their physical bodies.

Soul is primordial/basic living being that is in every physical creature, soul is that living being, with personality and memories, and creatures are physical bodies in different shapes, they can't live without souls, but souls can live without physical body. There is one soul in one body.

Naturesoul identify as souls in human bodies, not humans, they are aware of being just souls and because of that they can't identify as any other beings. They feel disconnection with current physical incarnation and can see it as "clothes" for soul, they can see possibility in being in any body, as any physical creature, physical form isn't that important, or they can prefer some specific body or parts from other physical creatures which they like or they were in previous incarnation (similar to otherlink, but they still not identify as that creature, they still identify as souls). Can also feel spiritual connection between them and nature, their beliefs can be connected to nature and feels as part of nature. In the same time they can partially identify with any creature's characteristics from their previous incarnations in which they felt good, for example as soul they can feel connection with cats (similar to otherhearted), they also can miss qualities they had in previous incarnations such as flying (bird incarnation) or walking on four legs etc. So they can feel some connection in different ways with their previous incarnation.

Contrary to popular belief that soul has no gender, naturesoul can identify with any gender identities (because of previous incarnations or experiences), but agender and gender neutral can be frequent, can use any pronouns. They can experiencing dysphoria because of disconnection with human body or any gender identities they feel, also can be genitalfluid/sexfluid which can be related with seeying their body just as "clothes". Naturesoul can be any sexuality and romantic orientation.

Important note:

Naturesoul can feel connection with creatures from their previous incarnations, they can miss some characteristics and qualities of creatures they were in the past, they even can have their own preferences about what body they want to have or just feel connection with things and creatures they like, but they can't identify in the same time as any other creatures or have multiple identities. Naturesoul can't be combined with other alterhuman terms, this is separate identity which, due to its specificity, doesn't allow you to identify with something else at the same time. Naturesoul is about being just soul, nothing more, nothing less, it's about one identity - as a soul - you can't be naturesoul and something else in the same time, any other alterhuman terms, any therian species, any kin types etc can't be combined with naturesoul, but some aspects can be as when soul feels connection with or just like specific creatures etc. If someone identify with something else and at the same time feels spiritual identity, it's probably soulkin, not naturesoul. But, after questions from some plural systems, I think in them there still can be part that is aware of being soul, so probably plural systems can have part that can identify as naturesoul, that one identity from that system if purely soul.

Please, don't say I'm disrespectful or something, every alterhuman term have their own definition and it's not like someone with specific identity can use whatever term they want, I saw many cases where alterhumans were discussing that someone don't fit to some terms and shoudn't be using it to describe their identity. From the start I said that naturesoul is separated term under alterhuman umbrella and is only about being soul and one identity. So, like every term was created to describe some specific beings and not all of them, the same case is with term naturesoul, it's for specific beings.

Dot in the central part represents Mother Earth and the energy of life and creation, everything has that energy.

Pentagram represents the elements and nature.

Small drops coming from arms of the pentagram represent that everything has the same beginning and is created from the same energy.

Long drops represent souls, like a circle in a pentacle, they represent the harmony of nature, they are connected with it and are part of it.

The whole harmonia mundi symbol represents world's structure and roots of souls, from dot to drop. Also represents close and spiritual connection with nature and being part of it.

My thought process while making the symbol was to make it similar to otherkin, as it can be past life related as well, but to not copy the 7/3 heptagram. That's why i picked a hexagon, and a 7/2 heptagram (note: The Star of David has 6 points; this one has 7)To mark the "core" of identity, i picked a heart, as it often symbolizes one's soul and identity. To emphasize it further, I put a dot in The Middle. The corners in the heart are simply there because it felt Empty.

Made with the silly “my favourite character x character trope” but ended up turning into just art of our concet selves. Hehhehdhdhjd. The text reads:

This took me just a little over an hour and a half to draw (the most I’ve spent on any piece of art. Period.) and I’m gosh darn proud! Very happy to be able to make this for you and now with the symbolism because I’m not satisfied with just giving you the finished art..

The foxglove and wolfsbane depicted on the right are a representation of just how merciless life can be and that something beautiful and seemingly innocent may bring along a harsh fate, a field vole depicted by the wolfsbane (technically not the right name but I like how it sounds) is a symbol of fragility of life and how curiosity is a given and yet can result in death. The dove, also a symbol of goodness, has been wounded and can be a stand in to the destructive nature of existence itself. The shroud and light above both figures faces both obstructs the identity but also acts as a key element in recognising them and I think speaks for itself (a looming darkness vs blinding light). On the left, alongside death, is the corpse of a long fallen deer, along with its fragility - it is now the source of life for carrion beetles, making it clear how in the end of one thing, there is beginining in another. Wolf also holds a hare, which clouded eyes and seeping blood make it clear it’s no longer breathing, and yet it is still being lovingly held and treated with kindness and respect. The fact that it has passed on is not of death’s fault and yet is now the responsibility that death must carry. Also, both are in a very specific position physically, Life - in a grassy marshlands that seems to be overgrown, and Death - in a more darkened and dulled over moss. Neither have any details in the body apart from human-like limbs and the beginning of a head, but for the most part is just the image of what personification could do to a concept. Ah, beautiful, ain’t it?

my personal thoughts on this piece is overall that I’m so proud of myself for doing this and hope you enjoy it! I did my best at incorporating different styles and techniques alongside a million brushes. I also utilised layers, ain’t that great!? Right. I do apologise though for the limited amount of space I had to draw both figures in so it seems a bit smushed together, but in truth, I also made the conscious decision of drawing you on the left, due to the psychology of things being read and seen by the masses from left to right, so even when someone scrolls by, the first conscious sight that their mind sees is you, or well, your representation.

okay, i tried my hand at making some potential fictionkin symbols! i like the inkwell, but i also really like the simplicity of symbols like the theta delta and alt key, which are very easy to draw lines and curves but are quickly recognizable.

the first two are different symbols for pluto, combined with the greek letter phi which makes the "f" sound. pluto, symbolically, can be associated with transformation and rebirth, which are both things that many fictionkin have experienced, being "transformed" from your fictional self to your current body, or being "reborn" into this new life if you're a more spiritual 'kin.

the last one is the symbol for arsenic combined with phi. it also means transformation, in alchemical symbolism, and change.

the idea is that you're "f"ictionally "transformed", and "changed" into your current self see?

the first two could be represented through unicode using the ⯔, or ⯓, plus Φ. there isn't a unicode for this version of arsenic

i think the arsenic one ends up the most a mess, but maybe that's just from staring at it?

the idea is that with just the one line, it's combining the symbol for salt with the letter phi to create the symbol for earth. salt alchemically represents the body, while earth is obviously grounding and focused on physical matters. so it symbolizes that though there has been a "f"iction-based "transformation" and a "rebirth", you're still grounded in your body and your self. through all the different selves, you're still you, and we can all come together

personally i think i like the second design best from both lines but maybe if i'd edited it so the circle was bigger on the first pluto symbols they'd look better? idk. anyway i hope other people like one of these ideas
