Fanbinding: Inside the River by yeaka

Starfleet sends Jim a spouse and an oddly vacant honeymoon.

When I saw the lovely typeset and bind @ashmouthbooks did of "Inside the River" for the @renegadepublishing annual exchange, I was struck by inspiration. They had done this gorgeous two page spread for the title, and between that, it being a TOS/AOS fic I hadn't read yet but looked amazing, and the idea for the case, I *immediately* set to work on my first book of 2023.

I have this very pretty marbled paper that I wanted to try contouring a green fabric against, and that is what I ended up doing!

I am VERY happy with the end result, but it was a complete pain in the ass to make this happen. Each of the green pieces was separately cut out and worked together with cloth and then layered over the base with the blue marbled paper.

I also decided to test hubris and see how thin of a book I could round and back. I was mostly successful!

💛💙SPIRK FIC REC💙💛

When I first found this fic the summary was so short that I really didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised!

It's an AOS AU (Yes, I know there have been a lot of them lately, I was going through a phase lol, I'll try to switch things up a bit soon) in which Starfleet requires all it's captains to be married to provide stability and support on long missions. If they don't find one of their own before they take command then they're subject to an arrange marriage via Starfleet Command matching them up with a suitable officer based on submitted questionnaires.

As such, Kirk is being provided with a spouse and is en route to meet them for their ceremony and subsequent honeymoon. However, although Kirk and Spock are not unhappy with their assigned partners, they are a bit baffled by their honeymoon resort, which appears to be deserted.

It's a mystery laced love story and it's altogether quite endearing. 🥰

I'm still not entirely sure what you're aiming to accomplish, hon - but if it's to accuse me of plagiarism, you are seriously barking up the wrong tree. Likewise, if you're angry that I dared to write Khan with an Original Character rather than someone from canon, I truly don't give a fig.

I work in a field where I have to deal with strangers being dishonest with me nearly every day. So much so, that I know a lie within a few moments of our conversation starting. When I share with other folks the myriad ways that Liars have devised to rip off a retailer in the course of returning something, they (as I used to be) are shocked to learn the many ingenious means of deception. My reply is always, 'Well, you wouldn't think of something like that because you're a honest person'. And likewise, it never occurred to me to look up the word 'yeaka' as I figured it was a typo, rather than a basis for an accusation.

However, one of my dear tumblr friends thought to look it up and discovered it's an AO3 penname of someone who writes Khan fic, shipping him with various canon characters. For the record, I don't recall ever reading anything of theirs - nor have I visited their works now out of curiosity. I didn't think to look for myself as some means of defense because I am simply NOT A PLAGIARIST. Every fic I've published is based on my own imagination, including those that resulted from RP with partners who granted me permission to write them.

If on the other hand, you simply can't tolerate shipping Khan (or any canon character) with someone non-canon, I'd advise you to keep to your own lane and block tags for fics that may raise your ire. If you're curious, though, you might discover there is a wealth of fics featuring OCs, as well as stories featuring crossover characters from completely unrelated fandoms. Make a quick search of 'Khanlolly' alone, and you'll find many, many stories featuring romance between Khan and Molly Hooper from BBC Sherlock, basically because he wears Benedict's face. Khanlolly is an offspring of the Sherlolly fandom.

In short, fan fiction Authors are free to play with whatever characters they want in whatever manner they choose. As of today, there are no fic police to restrict what can and cannot be written. If you don't like, don't read. That will ensure peace of mind for everyone involved.

Under the Stars by the brilliant writer Yeaka!

This story is tons of fun to read. It isn’t super long at 26, 628 words but also long enough to have some fun things going on.

It has camping and Vulcans roasting Marshmallows! Really everyone needs some Vulcans making s’mores 🥰. It is rated E and I feel like I have made way to much art over rated E things especially considering how much fluff I read. HOWEVER… I think it is a really cute story and Sarek isn’t a POS for once. I didn’t find any squicks of triggers but check the tags and if you don’t like don’t read! This author is one of my favorites and this is a very good story so you should go give it a try and send the author all kinds of love in the form of comments and kudos!

9. What is your favorite summer activity?

trying not to melt from the heat! although this week has been balmy in the low twenties with rain on/off, today it is 17 degrees and raining and I'm not complaining. I made myself hot chocolate.

other than that, sitting outside in the evenings in good company and enjoying the long nights! haven't got to do that in a while and tbr it works better somewhere that isn't the south of England (by which I mean Denmark at the very least but ideally like Finland or Iceland) because the light lasts longer there.

13. What fandom do you consume the most content for?

at the moment?? I think I'm between fandoms?? I'm sort of poking at things here and there and just reading whatever I feel like across a wide variety of fandoms. Historically though, that would be HP, SPN and MCU, and also because of the sheer number of fics available in these which means there's always something there to find...

24. Current hyperfixation?

the caterpillars in my tiny herb garden. no for real, I have a caterpillar problem so this past ten days or so, every 30 minutes (when home and not in the office or otherwise out of the house) I go check for caterpillars so I can pluck them off. (haven't found any in 48 hours so maybe I am Free.)

I think the only other thing that comes close to a hyperfixation at the moment is my bookbinding spreadsheets, I have been re-organising my stuff and cleaning up spreadsheets to keep track of everything and now I'm at a point where there are no more spreadsheets that can feasibly be made. I mean, I probably could just invent some, but like, I am capable of reason.
