it's always crazy to me how people used to and still do get weirdly offended at the mere motion that people hc starscream as lesbian or trans fem. when the most common trans hcs for him are the complete opposite. i remember i was on twitter and someone blocked people on spot for hc starscream as trans fem or lesbian and asked those ppl not to interact with him..can you imagine if people asked people who hc starscream as gay/trans masc not to interact with them...idk.

Last weekend at what was my last pride celebration of the year, I was honored to meet a young butch and photograph her skateboard. She spoke to me briefly about the quote on the board. I have taken the time to sit down and learn more about Leslie Feinberg and the quote written on this board “I live proudly in a body of my own design. I defend my right to be complex.”

I have not been able to get this quote out of my head since that day.

I am so very grateful that I followed my urge to go back and ask to photograph this board after seeing it. Tonight as I am reflecting on many things I am repeating this to myself as a mantra “I defend my right to be complex.”

My girlfriend and I left this beautiful pride event in tears, to the sounds of anti-gay protestors. This was so triggering on so many levels. But seeing this board, meeting this person, and being encouraged to learn more about Leslie Feinberg will be the happenings I choose to give my energy to when remembering this day.

My life since coming out has been nothing but tumultuous. I have been able to find silver linings throughout it all and this, is one of them.

You meet me and think maybe she’s shy until you get to know me and realize that behind that initial shyness lies someone who loves to make others happy. She is loud and will show her emotions on her face. Sometimes she can be rude and a bitch but one thing she will do is stick up for those she cares for. She will outwardly call out people who mess with her friends and will embarrass those people into apologizing or at the very least regretting their actions. You find out she laughs so loudly that it can fill up a room and she sings so horribly off key that you can’t help but admire how much she doesn’t care. But beneath all of that you find something else. You find someone wanting to be taken care of, you find someone who wants someone else to take the reins and help control her. And when you find that, all of the things you know about her suddenly vanish. Here comes that initial shyness you saw. She has trouble meeting your eyes, she can’t always voice her thoughts or feelings. That’s why she needs you to help her to bring those things out of her. And when you lay her down on your bed and ask her what she wants, she’ll shrug and shyly say “I don’t know…” but you know exactly what she needs and you’ll do anything to get it out of her. Even if it means making her scream and embarrass herself until she’s a hot wet mess in your sheets.
