I enjoyed S2 of Beyond Paradise even more than I did S1. The writers seemed to have a better handle on the show in its sophomore season regarding stories and character directions / development. 🧑🏻‍💻 🎞️
Looking forward to S3 in 2025.

Beyond Paradise series 3 starts filming
Beyond Paradise series 3 starts filming
Beyond Paradise series 3 has started filming, and the BBC revealed a few details in the associated press release. The regular cast are all present and correct, along with a returning complication from series 1. I found series 2 a big step-up — hopefully the standard will continue. The third series will see the return of Kris Marshall as DI Humphrey Goodman, Sally Bretton as Martha Lloyd, Zahra…

Jamie To Star In Death In Paradise Spin-Off, 'Beyond Paradise' - What We Know So Far (UPDATED : 15th February 2023)
Tumblr media
If you are a fan of Death In Paradise, and therefore are excited for the new spin-off, 'Beyond Paradise', we have exciting news; Jamie will be starring in the show!
About The Show
Tumblr media
Fans of Death In Paradise will be very familiar with the lead character of the series, DI Humphrey Goodman who previously was the DI in Saint Marie for the original series. For those unaware of the show, DI Goodman arrived in Saint Marie during the S3 premiere to investigate the murder of the previous DI. Humphrey left the series towards the end of series 6 and that has set up the premise of 'Beyond Paradise'.
Humphrey left the island of Saint Marie after developing a relationship with Martha Lloyd who he bumps into but knows from England. Though they spent time together on the island, Martha decided she wished to stay in England, leaving Humphrey heartbroken. However, when he returns to London as part of a case, he tracks her down and eventually decides he wants to be with her in England rather than returning to Saint Marie.
'Beyond Paradise' picks up Humphrey and Martha’s story as they navigate a new life together in the idyll of rural Britain.
Seeking a quieter life away from the stress of the city, Humphrey has taken a job as Detective Inspector in fiancée Martha’s hometown. However, they soon find that country life is anything but peaceful and Humphrey can’t help but be distracted by the town’s surprisingly high crime rate with a new, and very different, case challenging him each week.
A further synopsis was release on February 6th along with a new image.
Tumblr media
A new adventure awaits as we find them arriving in Shipton Abbott, Martha’s hometown near the beautiful Devonshire coast, having left London. As they embark on their new life whilst temporarily living with Martha’s mum Anne Lloyd (Barbara Flynn), the couple are quickly thrown in at the deep end as Martha sets out to pursue her dream of running her own restaurant and Humphrey joins the local police force. Quickly making an impression on the somewhat eclectic team; DS Esther Williams, PC Kelby Hartford and Margo Martins, Humphrey sets out to help crack a host of baffling cases, with the Shipton Abbott squad witnessing a whole new approach to police work…
Each week the team will face a new crime with a unique puzzle at its heart. The not-so-sleepy town of Shipton Abbott will be rocked by an entire family disappearing without a trace, a woman claiming she was attacked by a suspect from the seventeenth century, the robbery of a highly prized painting, a body bizarrely discovered in a crop circle and a serial arsonist with a seeming distaste for local businesses.
As Humphrey gets stuck into his new job, he and Martha must also navigate life’s ups and downs, as faces from the past, the decisions they make and challenges of setting up life in a new town put their relationship to the ultimate test.
The Cast
Tumblr media
Jamie will play Archie Hughes, a former partner of Martha's, "who looks like he's here to stay". In a recent interview with Sally Bretton, she explains that Archie steps in to help her with her resturaunt and becomes a partner in it. He owns the local Vineyard which the resturaunt will source their wine!
He will be joining Kris Marshall (Death In Paradise, My Family, Sanditon) as Detective Inspector Humphrey Goodman, Sally Bretton (Not Going Out) as his fiancée Martha Lloyd, Zahra Ahmadi (EastEnders) as Detective Sergeant Esther Williams, Dylan Llewellyn (Derry Girls) as Police Constable Kelby Hartford, Felicity Montagu (Alan Partridge) as Office Support Civilian, Margo Martins and Barbara Flynn (Cracker) as Martha's mum, Anne Lloyd. Jamie's wife Kerry has a potential role in the show though this has not been officially confirmed.
Filming
Filming began on 1st August 2022 and took place around Cornwall. Cast and crew were spotted in Looe, Launceston and Tavistock.
Other Information
Founder and Executive Chairman of Red Planet Pictures, Jordan, will act as showrunner and lead a team of writers working across the 6x60 series. Jordan, Tim Key and Belinda Campbell will be executive producers for Red Planet Pictures, and Diederick Santer and Tommy Bulfin will executive produce for BritBox International and BBC respectively. BBC Studios brokered the co-production deal with Britbox International and will handle international distribution. The series is produced by Lindsay Hughes and directed by Sandy Johnson.
Release
The show will air on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and Britbox (US/Canada) starting Friday 24th February at 8pm.

Horror Movie Review: Censor (2021)
After viewing a strangely familiar video nasty, Enid, a film censor, sets out to solve the past mystery of her sister's disappearance.
Censor is a 2021 British psychological horror film directed by Prano Bailey-Bond. It was produced from a screenplay by Bailey-Bond and Anthony Fletcher. In 1985, Enid Baines works for the British Board of Film Classification during the height of the Video Nasty controversy. Enid’s co-workers call her “Little Miss Perfect” due to her insistence that violent content be cut or banned. While Enid is…

Beyond Paradise Surpasses Death in Paradise
Five episodes into Beyond Paradise season 2 shows a series that clearly surpasses the original; Death in Paradise. It is not surprising. Kris Marshall was popular in the long running series set in the Caribbean. His decision to leave the sandy shores of Saint Marie ultimately lead to this spin-off. Set on the southwest coast of England the show features more country folk than islanders. Although…

Perpetua: A Potential Heroine for our times.
Tumblr media
Hi everyone we are going to rant about the Bridget Jones series once again and talk about a character, who I feel came too early before our current zeitgeist of bad bitch feminism and the #GirlBoss: Perpetua.
Perpetua is not intended to be likable. She is very posh, snooty, a bit arrogant, and demanding of Bridget and people she works with, greeting Bridget with a slight sneer as she comes into work and Bridget’s inner monologue voices a desire to staple stuff to her head for having gained a bit of power over Bridget in the publishing company Pemberley Press. Gee, let’s see what we have: entitled, snooty, fancy, having the attitude they are above it all, who has those traits? I’ll wait *sipping tea*
Tumblr media
But we notice something about Perpetua; after Bridget’s relationship with Daniel implodes because he was using her as his side piece and decides to find a better job elsewhere, Bridget goes to Daniel to tell him she is quitting. Perpetua overhears and picks up on what has been going on (she is appalled at what she is hearing) and as soon as Daniel tries to beg Bridget to stay, Perpetua gets up to defend Bridget: “I want to hear this, because if she gives one inch, I’m going to fire her bony arse for being totally spineless!” To her smiling pride, she sees Bridget tell Daniel off and leave the publishing company…and that’s the last we see of Perpetua. Even after that (awesome) scene, my teenage self got the message that it’s better to be a Bridget over a Perpetua, a bubbly but insecure girl who tries to conform to the male gaze over a stoic and IDGAF woman who does what she wants. I also heard messages from people, like my parents, telling me how important it was to act and look a certain way to be “likable”; it was better to be insecure and conventionally feminine rather than to be confident not very popular but self-assured. Also Bridget was the rom-com heroine who had people fall in love with her, Perpetua was seen as stuck-up and she was thrown to the wayside. Who stood to reap the benefits of our society?
Looking back, I found out that after almost 20 years of trying to be a Bridget: the “relatable” insecure girl next door type who is vulnerable and needs the validation of those to find her desirable and “worth it” that I’m wasn’t the likable, conventionally pretty and feminine Bridget…I was Perpetua: not always likable, assertive, willing to put her neck out there, not always sociable, but assured of her intelligence and her ability to turn heads. Plus we have our signature style and know how to work accessories. While Bridget dresses basic and in miniskirts (she wants to blend in but also attract men), Perpetua stands out in her headbands, pearls, cardigans, and pie-crust collars combining the elements that I loved in a younger Hillary Rodham Clinton, Peggy Olson, Nancy Wheeler, and Raquel Rodriguez Orozco from Destinos: An Introduction to Spanish. Just a Power Preppie who figured out how to stick out and take her place in a male-dominated workplace, with no apologies.
After watching Tee Noir’s video on women who were declared to be problematic but upon second viewing and reading were raising valid points about their situation or the situations they observed but lacked the likability or popularity to be taken seriously, I was inspired to finally write this post. As Perpetua was a woman who showcased what it was like to live life on your terms and not ask for the permission of anyone to validate you. A woman who may have envied Bridget’s “bony arse” but didn’t let her size or peoples’ perceptions of her appearance get in the way of getting what she wanted from others.
youtube
Here are some tropes and issues I will be referring to in this order, as they relate to Perpetua’s role in the films and books and how they regard her.

So I just read a gentleman’s guide device and virtue by McKenzie, and it was amazing, hilarious and full of adventure, but throughout the whole thing I got a very Wolfstar vibe from the main couple. Like, a privileged boy from an abusive aristocratic family, who is impulsive, selfish, stubborn, arrogant, but lovable same. He has a strange relationship with a sibling and discovers that he is not his family . He is also desperately in love with his best friend he seems to keep mucking things up with. Said Best Friend is a boy who is physically different from everyone else also has a secret condition. He is faced with bias and comes from a less privileged standing and forces our main character to see the privileges he takes for granted. (we also also have a short main character in love with his taller best friend. )I don’t know, Did anyone else pick up on this? Am I crazy? (it is entirely possible that I read too much fanfiction)

Beyond Paradise first Christmas special
Christmas Eve is the time to settle down and wrap those final presents, and what would be nicer than watching the first Beyond Paradise Christmas special? As the countdown to Christmas begins, residents of Shipton Abbott are left stunned as a string of bizarre burglaries occur overnight. When DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi) investigate the break-ins, it…

I lurve a Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue and nobody could ever ever make me feel otherwise. It's just so perfect and beautiful and IT'S SUCH A SLOWBURN. I like how Monty isn't framed as a good, perfect protagonist. He's a dick, especially at the start. He's a scoundrel who's oblivious to the world around him and yes, he focuses on his problems more than anyone else's - at the start. BUT. As the story goes on, Lee makes this sort of gorgeous, unforced character development where Monty sees his issues, and starts trying to fix it! And other people see this as well - mainly Felicity, who thought he would forever be a dick (Percy always saw the potential for Monty, even when no one else did). AND IT GETS BETTER, because at the end of the book, although there is a clear, significant change in Monty's character - he still retains that little bit of arrogance. AND you know what, good for him!! This man has been through so much shit and can still laugh and joke about these things. He still has these moments where he worries over himself over others. The only exception is Percy. The moment he finds out this thing about Percy, he does everything in his power to think of a way to stop it - even if he doesn't ask Percy himself what he wants, he is still trying so so hard to keep Percy by his side (in his own unique way). Monty is a brilliant protagonist, and I will scream that from the rooftops until the end of time.
