I’m aware I’m doing analysis on a YA book series that a) began 6 years ago b) concluded 3 years ago c) wasn’t really intended to be a series at all originally and d) I haven’t shared a conversation with anyone about since I was 17, BUT!! none of that matters because the brain demons have got me and now I can’t stop thinking about the coin-flip, inverse way the “cliff jump” as a storytelling element functions in Monty’s arc during The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky versus how it functions in Adrian’s narrative throughout The Nobleman’s Guide to Scandal and Shipwrecks.

I am all the more compelled by this for the fact that TGGtGL is so on-the-surface distant from TNGtSaS. But—what if you were Monty, and jumping off a cliff represented your growth, represented how you began to believe yourself worthy of love. What if you were Adrian, and jumping off a cliff represented your death, represented how you might believe yourself to be unlovable. What if you were brothers.

And what if you were Caroline, and you stepped off a cliff knowing it meant your death and hoping your oldest son—who had already transformed “jumping off a cliff” from something destructive into something joyous in his story—would be enough to save your younger son from trying to jump off that same cliff after you. What if. What the hell man.

a master of djinn is not popular but i swear it's the most underrated book i've read because everything about it is purely genius GENIUS (the characters, the story the setting) everything 100/10 read it. the noblemans guide and greywaren are a perfect way to close a story i loved them.

There's honestly nothing like accidently pulling an all nighter because somehow just when you realized it was far too late and were about to finally go to bed, you stumbled upon the Percy×Monty wedding scene again for the first time in forever and now refuse to sleep before reading the entire thing again
