Impulse pats his shoulder half-sympathetically, then says, “Shirt.” Skizz rolls his eyes and takes his shirt off with no small amount of struggle, revealing the spot where the base of his wings are held in place by a sleeve of cloth wrapped around his entire torso, plates of steel grafted under skin, artificial nerve receptors going through the fabric and, Impulse knows, connecting to Skizz’s real nerve endings. “Like what you see?”

Now it’s Impulse’s turn to roll his eyes. “I am trying to help you, Skizz, so can you please shut up for once in your life and let me focus instead of telling dumb jokes?”

Woah. Skizz squints (even though Impulse is behind him and therefore cannot be seen). “You okay there, buddy?”

“Just fine,” Impulse mutters, accidentally yanking too hard at a wire when he tries to look at it closer. Skizz curses, and Impulse sighs before quietly apologizing.

“It’s fine,” Skizz dismisses, “you seem distracted anyways.”

“No shit,” Impulse growls out. Skizz sighs and turns around. “Okay, I was going to leave it alone, but seriously, man, what’s up? You’ve been acting off all day.”

“It’s nothing. You’re more important.”

“Dippledop-”

“Fine!” Impulse shouts. “Fine. You reaaaaally want to know. All I’m doing is making sure you aren’t in pain for, like, the rest of your life, but that’s not enough, is it, Skizz? You just need to know everything about me. Well. Have it your way.” And, from under his jacket, he pulls the necklace he always wears, and-

Skizz inhales sharply. Oh. 

The clockwork-and-vine-patterned ring that was supposed to be safely hanging from the necklace's wire…

…Is gone.

“W- I- fuck, man, I’m sorry. I didn’t know-” “Yeah, well. Now you do.” Impulse sounds… bitter, when he says it. Angry. “Now can we go back to fixing your stupid wings?”

My honest prediction for Hazbin’s reception at this point is that it will come out, and not a lot of people will care. If the writing isn’t just flat out bad with offensive humor, breakneck pacing, aversion to meaningful world building, and poor visuals; Hazbin will just slip right into that mediocre valley. Because Viv is too scared of actual stakes and consequences and changing the status quo in her stories.

I haven’t seen or heard much about Hazbin outside of people who are already aware of it. Amazon clearly isn’t too hyped about it, and the only people I’ve seen singing it’s praises are people who were there from the pilot.

It won’t be reviewed well- people might show up to watch it when they hear it’s bad- and maybe we’ll get a video or two about the “downfall of Hazbin”- but attention will taper out and people will move on. I know I’m gonna drop most everything with Hazbin and Helluva once I see what happens in January.

I mean Invincible is coming back- there’s gonna be more shows people care about way more. Percy Jackson’s new show is going to be airing weekly all throughout January, for my enjoyment at least. Hazbin won’t have anything about it that’s sustainable.

The avian’s hands were over his face again before it entered Scar’s field of vision.  “Did you see?” he whispered.

“See what?”

“My face.”

Beneath his usual self-assurance, CuteGuy was terrified.

“No,” Scar answered honestly.  There had been too much chaos, and the room was much too dark.

Now that they were out in the light, though, Scar noticed that CuteGuy’s hair was several shades lighter - sandy-golden rather than its usual medium brown.  Pretty, he thought, as the sunlight glowed honey-like over the wavy strands.

“Good,” CuteGuy whispered.  “Those - those things drained my glamor.”  He took a shuddering breath, regaining some of his steadiness as he exhaled.  “I’ve never seen anything like that before.”

“Huh.  Magic vampire bats.  Who’d have thought?”

CuteGuy gave a perfunctory chuckle.  “Are you hurt anywhere?” he asked.

“Nah, just a few scratches,” Scar said, as nonchalant as he could manage.  “Nothin’ the old HotCave can’t patch up!”

It was more than a few scratches, and it hurt quite a bit, but Scar figured CuteGuy had enough concerns of his own.

“Close your eyes.”

“What?”

“Close your eyes.”  CuteGuy’s voice was firm and insistent.  “Let me take a look.”

I will say- I can’t claim credit for the mediocre valley, I got it from Super Eyepatch Wolf and his video “Riverdale: The Show That Went Completely Insane”

Great video- totally recommend it!

But his whole thing with the mediocre valley and how on one side you have those shows that are “so bad they’re good” and the other being “so good they’re good” did put something in perspective for me

Cause you do have shows that are so out there and wild that, while they are “good”, you just can’t help but have fun with them. And other times a piece of media is just so nothing and played save you hardly remember it for anything at all
