Started rewatching the Fear Street trilogy, started with Part One last night an watching part Two tonight
💖💖💖💖
Love these movies so much BUT my one complaint is that I feel like having Kate, Simon, and Josh put Sam’s blood on them was just a convenient way to kill off Kate and Simon…. Like it doesn’t actually help the plan much and just puts them in danger. I get that it’s to help stall but….Why not put Sam’s blood somewhere else, like a different building and in the frozen section to stall them a little lol

Y'know what's especially insidious about Solomon Goode's deal with the devil? He could have just moved back to the Union Settlement. He didn't have to create Sunnyvale he could've just gone back and he would have been fine. But he had an ego. And therefore needed something to revere him after he was gone. He wanted the power that came from that. And he sacrificed people's lives in order to get it done. When he could've just been happy going back to Union.

Working on a danganronpa x fear street au because I'm bored and I got nothing else to do, so here's a short character list for this AU! I'll be starting off with Fear Street Part 1: 1994, Part 2: 1987 & Part 3: 1666 will come at a later point.
I really recommend watching Fear Street, it's a good movie trilogy! With that, onto the list!
DO NOT CONTINUE READING PAST THIS POINT IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN FEAR STREET, THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS!
Heather Watkins – Sayaka Maizono
Reason I chose her is because she's the first girl you meet in game and the first girl who dies. Heather's the same way.
Ryan Torres – Leon Kuwata
I chose Leon because of both he and Ryan have some girl catcher thing going on, not to mention they both become killers. (albeit one was possessed, the other was forced)
Deena Johnson – Shuichi Saihara
In reality because the Fear Street Trilogy also counts as a LGBTQ+ film (Deena & Sam used to date), you could put anyone besides Shuichi as the main character. Reason I chose Shuichi was because Deena associates with the color blue, and she's also pessimistic and depressed at the start of the movie until the end.
Samantha Fraser – Kokichi Oma
Now, Sam and Kokichi are very different characters. One's manipulative and childish while the other doesn't like to cause trouble while being quiet. The only reason I chose Kokichi is due to a couple things, one of them being Sam living in Sunnyvale (which is a rich and safe town, and since Kokichi is the Ultimate Supreme Leader, I just put two and two together.) Second, Saiouma is a popular ship and since Shuichi is Deena in this AU, I might as well make Sam Kokichi. (But other options such as Kiibo or Kaito or any other male character Shuichi's shipped with could work too.)
Josh Johnson – Yasuhiro Hagakure
In the movie, Josh is the nerd who's all about conspiracy theories, and he's smart because he's able to piece together what's been going on with Shadyside and the killers it pumps out every decade or so. Yasuhiro's all about that conspiracy stuff, and he's somewhat of a nerd (alongside Hifumi), hence why he's Josh. His best friends that he talks to like Josh does in the movie with AOL would probably be Hifumi and Gundham.
Kate Schmidt – Miu Iruma
Kate's not an inventor, I'll give you that. But in the movie she's very smart and has a good sense of what she's doing (even after she dies). She's also a very attractive girl, so who else could fit her other than the genius with good looks and golden brains herself?
Simon Kalivoda – Kazuichi Soda
In my personal opinion, I could've chosen Mikan for Simon due to both of them being cowards and having knowledge of over the counter medicine and drugs, but it just didn't feel right given Mikan also cries a lot... which is something Simon doesn't do. So I chose Kazuichi because I thought it would be more fitting in terms of personality. (Also, both of them are simps in a way)
Sheriff Nick Goode – Nagito Komaeda
While it doesn't make much sense for Nagito to be Nick, I chose Nagito because both of them wield guns (/hj) and because both of them live a lavish lifestyle where nothing bad ever happens to them. (With some exception as an Ultimate Lucky Student aka Nagito) Then again, he could also work for Sarah Fier given both of them had one hand cut off from their body...
C. Berman – Hajime Hinata
It's implied in 1978 that C. Berman and Nick Goode had a thing for each other when they were kids, and C. Berman was very pessimistic (almost like Deena) during most of the movie. It fits very well for Hajime just like Shuichi does with Deena.
Ruby Lane – Sonia Nevermind
Halfway in the movie, Simon ends up entranced by Ruby Lane's singing which is how he ends up getting tackled and almost killed by her. I don't like to doubt that Sonia would do something similar to draw out Kazuichi if she ever decided to kill someone.
Sarah Fier – Kiyotaka Ishimaru
While it may not make sense for Ishimaru to be the witch, It's the only character I could think that would work for this AU since, and there are spoilers so don't read if you haven't seen Fear Street, Sarah Fier in the movie is a lesbian who was hung for witchcraft and had rejected a dude who loved her when she loved another woman.
#sxilor rambles#sxilor speaks#danganronpa#danganronpa au#fear street#fear street trilogy#fear street au#I really recommend watching Fear Street if you enjoy murder horror and supernatural spooks#Things in this AU might change and swap around but that's because this is my first time actually working on a big AU idea like this#I am always open to recommendations and ideas though#just try to avoid spoilers if you can because I know not many people probably know this trilogy series#so it'd be best for those people to watch the movies and understand them

Incredible how a piece of media can be about the demonizing of minorities for existing and the endless prioritization of the not life even, but wealth, comfort, and ease of the majority, over the lives of minorities, and their right to exist at all. And about the beauty of love in minorities even discarded and devalued and demonized. And the horrific, banal, shallow, casual depravity and evil of the majority in power choosing to sacrifice those vulnerable around them as if it’s nothing at all, or even deserved and celebrated. And how worthless that is. And the way even lost and dead, demonized, hated, and discarded, love and unity between the oppressed and the forgotten will be remembered in echoes by the land itself and last for centuries and color the future. And still. Still. People will see all of that, and refuse to engage with the text in any way but a desire to explore the nonexistent depth of and fuck some rich evil white cop guy
#fear street#fear street trilogy#anyway it’s a great trillogy watch it but fandom will always disappoint you#to a lesser extent this is also how it feels to play The Quarry then go online. but less so extremely bc that’s much less heavy themes and#through lines it’s more like ‘damn bitch’ level than ‘Jesus Christ’ which is people who interact wrong w fear street#Meg finally saw the movies so no I can bitch on main and by god I will#I’ll praise too but by god I’ll do both#fear street spoilers#people will be like ‘no I like the villain bc I relate to being villanized🥺’ & the villain is a white bastard cop

Hey, um… with the whole “Bluejay!Jason” concept… has anybody ever considered it as an Inkheart reference instead of just a play off his name?
Follow me here, and sorry in advance, this turned into a ramble.
In the second book of the Inkheart trilogy, Inkspell, one of the main protagonists adopts a Robin Hood-esque approach to defeating the tyrant king, and adopts the name of ‘The Bluejay’ from famous folk legends and songs written by a beloved poet and often sung by travelling minstrels. He’s -Inkspell spoilers ahead, though this book is unironically older than I am- known for toppling said tyrant’s throne through the binding of a magic book (a recurring theme throughout the series, if you’ve never read it, which you should). He’s a champion among the Motley Folk, who were that world’s equivalent to a travelling circus and also regularly aid him in his quest to topple the Adderhead (the tyrant king mentioned above), and sought to help the poor and downtrodden. The Bluejay is aided and abetted by his family and friends, which include a shapeshifting wife, a daughter with the ability to make anything she reads come true, a fire-dancer who can speak to the flames, and a knife-throwing 'circus' prince with a black bear companion. (They're not called the Motley Folk for no reason, people!)
Now, consider for a moment: Little Jason Todd, in the local library, absolutely devouring the Inkheart series. It's everything a little kid could dream of in a fantasy book! And there's three of these fat books, what more could you possibly want? And he has an excuse to sit in a warm, safe building for a few hours.
Now imagine, Inkspell becomes his comfort book. Of course it does- every kid had one, and I can't imagine an orphan who grew up alone on the streets of Gotham picking anything other than a story about a strange man helping the opressed and downtrodden in a land he grows to call his own with the help of his family- and The Bluejay is an excellent father to his daughter, too, of course Jason pictured himself as part of that family, as whisked away into that world.
And of course, the rest of the series is wonderful too -Inkheart is where it all began, after all, and Inkdeath is the final triumph over evil!-, but Inkspell is a story about becoming. About learning to be more than you were born as- after all, if Mo the simple bookbinder could become the hero The Bluejay, what could Jason the street orphan become?
Maybe, instead of discovering this book in a library, he found it in the trash. And maybe he wondered, as he read it, why anyone would ever want to throw away the tale of Mo the Blujay, of Meggie the Silvertongue, of Resa the brave swift, of Dustfinger the loyal Fire-Dancer? (And maybe the last one took a while to get there, but he did get there! Eventually! And maybe Jason can understand why it took Dustfinger so long to truly come to trust someone again, because trust is a terribly dangerous thing to give to someone, because you can never really know what they'll do with it.) Maybe he read it through without knowing anything about Capricorn or The Shadow or why they feared the man named Basta, because they hadn't thrown away the first book, only the second. Maybe he wept for the death of Dustfinger, at the very end, because he didn't know that Death wouldn't keep him, because they hadn't thrown away the third book.
Maybe Inkspell found its place among his most treasured possessions. Maybe, when he met Batman and Bruce Wayne in one night and his life changed forever, Inkspell came with him, with its familiar story and characters and world and sorrows.
Maybe one of the first things Bruce did, upon seeing Jason reading that same battered old paperback, was to order Inkheart and Inkdeath and leave them in his room. Maybe that was when Jason started to realize that he wasn't going to leave forever.
(Maybe Jason and Dick would play Motley Folk together, because Dick was in the circus and could most certainly throw knives, even if it gave Bruce a heart attack every time he saw it.)
And maybe, after he could no longer have Robin, he remembered that old paperback book, that old story and that old world, and he thought of a new name for himself.
Bluejay, he thought, as he picked up the book that had been his constant companion for so many years. I'll be The Bluejay.
(I don't really know what this is. I saw some Bluejay!Jason art the other day and just started thinking of the Inkheart trilogy and the fact that Jason would absolutely have read it and probably loved it. And then it spiralled.)

tomorrow is True Fear day!
tomorrow (November 19) at 6pm EST, I'll be streaming True Fear: Forsaken Souls Part 1!
this is one of my favorite game series and i'm real excited to share it with y'all!!!
here's the steam description:
You are walking down a street you don't recognize, the fog slowing your pace to a crawl as darkness blinds you. You pause and look up to see a house; candles flicker in every window, like a beacon. Climbing the few steps to the front door, you realize many years have passed since it was last opened – it has been sealed with rust and purpose. Inexplicably, just as you know the candles are for you, you know someone waits inside. Someone who has remained in that house since before the iron began to rust. They have been patient. Waiting for over two decades. Waiting for you. True Fear: Forsaken Souls takes the best of the psychological thriller, blending in fun and intuitive gameplay mechanics. The cinematics, puzzles and hidden object phases have been carefully developed and are steeped in a unique and oppressive atmosphere. Episode 1, the first in a trilogy, will long be remembered.
see y'all tomorrow night!

Top 12 LGBT Horror Characters
11. Deena Johnson (played by Kiana Madeira) from the Fear Street trilogy
TW: death, murder
*spoilers for Fear Street: 1994, Fear Street: 1978, and Fear Street: 1666*
Based on R.L. Stine’s iconic teen horror novel series, Netflix’s Fear Street Trilogy tells the story of a rivalry between two neighboring towns that spans across centuries: the upper-class Sunnyvale and the impoverished Shadyside. Since the 1600s, Sunnydale has thrived with wealth, a safe community, and an impeccable reputation. Meanwhile, if you live in Shadyside, you are at risk of residing in squalor, having your property vandalized, or being murdered by someone close to you.
School band drummer Deena can vouch for this. Living with an alcoholic absentee father, having to be responsible for herself and her brother Josh, and having to grow up in “the murder capital of the United States” has led her to adopt a jaded exterior to mask her emotional vulnerabilities.
Now, let me be honest here. Despite her having an interesting character background, I did not like Deena for the first half of Fear Street: 1994, but it is not for the reasons above.
The reason I could barely tolerate Deena is that she acted so entitled to her ex-girlfriend, Samantha. For some reason, she is heartbroken over Sam dating someone else, even though DEENA broke up with her. In addition, the reason she broke up Sam is because Sam and her family moved from Shadyside to Sunnyvale.
Deena! Sam’s parents made the decision to move, not Sam. As a child, she had no say in the matter!
Finally, to quote Sam in the movie, “I am half an hour away”. To which Deena replies, “It might as well be the goddamn moon”. Ugh…
At that moment, I was thinking Sam deserved a better girlfriend than Deena.
Now, I can discuss why I began to like Deena more throughout the trilogy.
Despite her prickly behavior, she was determined, resourceful, and loyal to her loved ones. In order to save her brother, her girlfriend, and her town from destruction, Deena led the mission to defeat the undead corpses of past Shadyside killers and uncover the secrets behind the infamous curse.
The moments with her brother Josh were especially endearing and heartwarming without being too saccharine. These new dangerous circumstances forced them to rely on each other more than ever on a goal greater than themselves.
Deena even became a better girlfriend to Sam as she risks danger at every turn and goes through the ends of the Earth to save her life.
With the help of the spirit of Sarah Fier, Deena breaks the centuries-long curse on Shadyside and shares Fier’s story to clear her name.
Over the course of a few days, Deena evolved from high school band geek to an unexpected hometown heroine.

‼️ HUGE SPOILERS FOR FEAR STREET 1994 IN THE SECOND CLIP ‼️
I had recently started rewatching Fear Street with my cousin when I had realized how similar these two scenes were, not to mention Heather and Edd practically say the same line. Crazy how I could connect a silly slapstick cartoon to a horror movie.
Recommend watching Fear Street if you are a fan of horror, it’s like one of my favorite horror trilogies.

2024 Horror Challenge: [41/?]
↳“It's trippy, huh?" It's What's Inside (2024) dir. Greg Jardin
Plot: A pre-wedding reunion descends into a psychological nightmare for a group of college friends when a surprise guest arrives with a mysterious suitcase that starts to tear the group apart.
Starring: Brittany O'Grady, James Morosini, Gavin Leatherwood, Nina Bloomgarden, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Reina Hardesty, Devon Terrell, David W. Thompson & Madison Davenport
I love how vague that summary is even though the body swapping in the story is actually not a spoiler I'd say since it's essentially the main plot and the surprises are the little secrets & twists we get along the wild ride. And it is quite a ride. To be perfectly honest, I went into this with the lowest expectations for some reason. I think it's just cuz Netflix has like a 50/50 track record with me & their horror movies. I've enjoyed things like the Fear Street trilogy, Gerald's Game, Hush, Veronica, etc. but then I've also turned some movies on that I never finished (or truth be told, even made it 30 minutes in) so you just never know. I figured it'd be some mindless haunted house thing where the group gets picked off one by one or something (I didn't realize the title was referring to the body, not the mansion they're partying in lmao) The trailer intrigued me and I noticed some faces I remembered in the cast (Alycia Debnam-Carey, Gavin Leatherwood, David W. Thompson) so I decided to give it a chance. I'm glad I did since I actually ended up enjoying it a lot more than I expected to. Like, it was a genuinely fun watch for me. Idk if it was an instant classic for me, at least immediately, but by the end of it, I really appreciated how fresh it felt. I loved the concept of them playing this game that goes sideways and people trying to figure out who is who. And then there was even a twist at the end I didn't see coming somehow so that was nice. The cast really gelled so well for me too. I love a good ensemble movie, those are my jam! The chemistry was great and overall, the acting was solid, especially since they're all playing multiple people throughout it. Another thing that really ties the whole thing to together are some of the editing choices. I was here for the aesthetics and I do like how they were able to remind the audience who was who at certain times (at least when we were supposed to know) in a way that was still visually pleasing cuz that could have gotten rather confusing with a lot of different names to remember. (Tbh I did still get confused a couple times though lol) Though really, while that may hinder your first watch of it a bit, I think that may help its rewatchability in a way since that means you'll always be able to find something new, the more you see it. This truly was an unexpected gem imo. Reminds me of how I felt after watching Bodies Bodies Bodies for the first time. I loved going on this ride with these characters. Definitely recommend if you want a fun & light watch that still manages to keep you on your toes a bit with where it's going.

Hoping I can find some Until Dawn/The Quarry/Dark Pictures people here to talk about this with, so I'm shooting my shot!
Spoilers ahead for Until Dawn, The Quarry, Little Hope, Man of Medan and House of Ashes (and somewhat The Devil in Me, but I haven't played that yet)
So, we (my sisters and I) have finished the game (Little Hope) now and I thought I'd just dump my thoughts here.
So far I've played Until Dawn and The Quarry (not Dark Pictures but still by Supermassive) Man of Medan, House of Ashes and Little Hope - the last being my favourite so far.
And I've read the same statement a few times that the ending was somewhat underwhelming after that build up and here are my two cents about it.
I wish they would stick with a pattern in their games, either make the antagonists something supernatural (creatures, demons, evil doings/beings) OR something that's affecting the protagonist (aka trauma/psychological issues or hallucinogenic substances or whatever)
I found the alien-ship-crashing-on-earth-plotline SO outlandish in House of Ashes, whereas I really rooted for Little Hope to be supernatural.
I was thinking of a time loop, in which the Reverend just keeps inserting them into the bubble of Little Hope and kills them over and over again for his entertainment or gain. Because his family name kept coming up I thought there may be some Netflix-Fear-Street-trilogy thing going on, a deal with the devil/demon to keep his family successful by killing off a few townspeople every so-and-so many years.
The end felt anticlimactic, I chose to believe Mary from the start and the lack of a "bossfight" was a little disappointing to me? We just walked out of that house, we don't know what became of the Reverend, did we finally break the cycle? I have no idea.
Another thing I want to add is that I don't think every game needs some sort of mind-bending plottwist. Until Dawn set the standard, and I don't know if it's the nostalgia talking or if I just was significantly younger and more impressionable back then, but no other game (in my opinion) came close to that "Oh it's not just a psycho but something in the woods." build up and eventual resolution.
I loved how The Quarry was so rational about the werewolves, and I didn't mind they were revealed so early on, and the 'misleading the player by making them think the witchlady tries to help them' actually made me kill the entire Hackett family the first time around.
I haven't played The Devil in Me yet, all I know is that it's somehow Saw-esque and based on H. H. Holmes, but I will keep my hopes up that there is an actual physical/supernatural thing at the bottom of this and not another "something is affecting my psyche and perception of the world".
How do you think about this? I have loved this series since Until Dawn came out and I have so many opinions on it and I would love to hear what you have to say!!

A Rival Most Vial - Book Review
Oh gosh, where do I start? I loved it. Let's make that clear. Ok, I'll begin with my one gripe before my overwhelming praise takes over because I cannot wait for more in this series.
R.K. Ashwick's second trilogy begins with this book, as The Stray Spirit began their first trilogy and was their debut novel as an indie author last year. Two books in so little time! I could never be that fast! Both are highly recommended by me so I wanted to mention the other book, now, let's pop open this juicy dumpling of fantasy fiction, shall we?
The one gripe is Ambrose and Eli are at odds for a good third of the book or so, and I mean heavily. As spoiler light as possible, events go from a boiling point that breaks the rules of the street their shops are on, then in the same day a character begins to look at the other with a wholly different kinda boiling point. -tugs collar- Ahem. As I said, the quick change left a bit of whiplash for me personally, but it's my only complaint for this wonderful novel that also captured my heart and made me tear up once or twice.
Ambrose is by far my favorite. I relate to his closed off nature, and boy does he also have good reasons for it. He's intelligent, gifted in his craft even, dedicated, and all mushy inside if you can get past that icy blue exterior of his. Eli, on the other hand, took me a minute to get on board with, though I have to admit the cutest automaton ever, Tom, and her wonderfully depicted stabby feet, mug body, fork arms, and broom head helped warm me to him. Eli has severe wanderlust and gets bored of things easily, though he is also incredibly gifted. He's reckless, but he's charming and bears good intentions.
All the characters are wonderful, really, but I won't name them all here and let you discover them yourself. They make themselves very much known in the first chapter after all. Big personalities and bigger hearts, these shopkeeps all stick together through thick and thin, even though some may make some really rash calls at times. In a magical world with exploding moss, dragons, and venomous moths that shoot deadly spikes the length of your arm, any rash choice could be deadly.
The romance is golden and the details on the kisses and awkwardness being described from both sides of the blooming relationship between Ambrose and Eli is just -mwah-. Ambrose is uncertain of a first relationship and so concerned with timing and averages like any A type personality would be, while Eli is tender with him and doesn't wish to push too far, all the while not knowing Ambrose may want just that. There is a short sex scene, but it's very blurry in depictions of physicality and hones in more on the back and forth and emotions between the two. I thought this was a good choice for this type of story, and it blended well to the emotional beats at the time.
The world-building, just like The Stray Spirit, is so carefully thought out, planned, drawn up in wonderful in book art, and exudes so much of Ashwick's character that you could tell it was an R.K. Ashwick book even without the name on the cover if you read their debut. Each of these worlds is mesmerizing and brings me back to when I would eat through fantasy books by the dozen. It's whimsical, but dangerous enough you have to root for the characters and fear for them at times genuinely. As Ambrose goes over his potion instructions and shortcuts to his partner on the commission, each detail feels like it just came from an actual text on the subject. I can't wait to discover more of this world.
Can we also state how gorgeous that cover is while I still have your attention? The colors pop so well! The details are stunning and I love the little silhouettes of our main duo with those tiny hearts above their heads.
All in all, this is my long-winded approach to saying GO BUY THIS BOOK! I assure you it is worth the time and money spent to travel through this world with these loveable fools.
This is an arc read and I’m leaving a review voluntarily. This review is honest all the same and I jumped at the chance to be an arc reader after reading The Stray Spirit shortly after it's launch. I've followed this project's growth even longer than that, and I am so happy to say I am so satisfied with how this turned out.

Queer Horror! The Fear Street Trilogy
The Fear Street trilogy was released on Netflix in the summer of 2023 and was directed by Leigh Janiak. The series followed the history of the city of Shadyside and all of the misfortune caused by the curse of Sarah Fier.
Part One - 1994 followed a group of teens who are living with the effects of the curse, one of whom happens upon the buried body of the old witch Sarah Fier, one of whom becomes a target for the curse. They have to join together to defeat the killers coming to find them.
Part Two - 1978 sees the surviving characters track down a previous survivor of the curse, who recounts her time at Camp Nightwing where a possessed counselor goes on a murderous rampage.
Part Three - 1666 sees the main character get a glimpse of the past when she sees Sarah Fier's story with her own eyes, and what really happened to cause the Shadyside curse.
I may get into spoilers here so I am going to mark it as such! I will try to spoil as little as possible as this series is wonderful and should be experienced.
The cool thing about this series, is that the main character in the 1994 story, Deena Johnson (played by Kiana Madeira) is gay. It's revealed in a cool way that made me very excited to follow her and her ex/girlfriend, Sam (played by Olivia Scott Welch,) through the movie.
And it was really cool to see Deena fight so hard to make sure that Sam stayed safe, even when it came to some really rough parts.
Now the second movie followed a story where Deena was still trying to both protect and save Sam, which was very difficult in more ways than one. But since this post is talking about the queer aspects of this franchise, the most notable part for me is that the character Alice is played by non-binary actor Ryan Simpkins (pronouns they/she according to their Instagram.) Ryan Simpkins is one of my favorite parts of the series. I just love the way they play Alice.
The third movie is so creative in the way it tells Sarah Fier's story, because it reuses some of the cast members from the first two movies (no Ryan Simpkins though, which made me so sad,) having them portray characters from the past. Kiana and Olivia portray Sarah Fier and her lover Hannah Miller as Deena sees the story of Sarah Fier, through her eyes. The story gives Sarah Fier her own tragic love story, where Hannah and Sarah's love is accused of being the cause of the town's misfortune, and both girls are accused of being witches. The sacrifice Sarah makes in the end after learning the truth of who the real evil is, is heartbreaking and sweet at the same time, as she is able to save Hannah from the town's wrath.
Like I said, I am sharing as little as possible incase the people reading this haven't seen the film yet. (GO WATCH THE MOVIES!)

walked in on jonah and peachy watching the second half of the first 'fear street' movie and sat down to watch the rest of the trilogy with them!! :) i'm not normally a horror movie person but the story was SOOOOOOOOO incredibly strong and compelling. the story and horror felt equally important and interwoven, like, the movie just wouldn't work without both. extremely good. really really really good.
spoilery specifics below cut
also the main characters are Real Lesbian Girlfriends and they BOTH LIVE!!!!! and so does one of the girls' sweet brother (theyre black this is why i have to worry about this)
the gore was rough at moments (not unwatchable for me but if you ARE squeamish that way its going to be a tough watch) but i never felt like.... TOO much?? it achieved the purpose of Unsettling The Shit Out Of Me without feeling like it was there JUST to be gross and get a reaction. like. it WAS gross. i DID react. but it served the tone and didn't overstay the welcome
and the TWISTS!!!!! THE MULTI LAYERED LORE!!!! THE WAY YOULL NEVER GUESS WHATS GOING ON BUT IT DOESNT FEEL LIKE A CHEAP 180 JUST TO TRICK YOU. LIKE IT WORKS. THE WITCH IS SO SCARY AND HER LORE MAKES IT SO MUCH SCARIER FOR REASONS U JUST CANNOT PREDICT. LIKE. I DONT WANNA SPOIL IT EVEN IN MY DESIGNATED SPOILER ZONE
also sam and deena (the lesbians) are EVERYTHING to me. deena is an incredible character. i think i missed a lot of sam's characterization due to missing the first 3/4 of the first movie but she REALLY compelled me even so. and DEENA IS JUST. SO GOOD. her love and courage being so potent even though she's also suffering from so much fear and anger. she's so fucking cool.
anyway. if you're chill with gore and "murderers hunting protags like sport" type horror it's INCREDIBLE and i highkey recommend the whole trilogy. like. what the fuck i loved it. it's so unsettling. that's the word i keep going back to! like, it's NOT jumpscare heavy, the suspense and atmosphere does a great job of setting the right expectations up; none of the sudden jumps to action felt cheap. i wasn't TERRIFIED but i was UNSETTLED AND COMPELLED?? i think this is what normal horror buffs get out of these movies???? and getting to actually FEEL that because the movie doesnt botch itself on cheap shock value (that DOES always get me but not in the enjoyable way) was really cool. fun fun movie even if ur not super into horror imo.
definitely check out a trigger warning list tho, just because there's a lot of different kinds of gore and for me at least, certain things are triggering while others arent. and there's stuff besides that i think is worth knowing ahead of time, like period typical homophobia and animal death. those are the ones that stood out to me but definitely find a thorough list
anyway i am in love with deena. absolute woman of all time. if ur one of her haters ill blow you up
#yoshi talks#fear street //#it was just??? UNSETTLING BUT IN A FUN WAY ITS SUCH A RARE EXPERIENCE FOR ME TO HAVE
