I am a dog because I hide my tail between my legs when I’m scared. I am a dog because I am slapped on my muzzle and yet I lick the hand who does it. I am overcome with such a hopeless submission to those that hate me, that all I can be is whale-eyed all I can do is appease them. Deeply I want to rage, and I bark and whine, but deeper I am so afraid of hurt and death that I cannot bite. I fear the snare trap so I beg to be pet by the hunters.
