This is so Gothic that it has gone beyond action, beyond atmospheric, to pure, 100% medical-grade Vibes.
ALSO there's an unusual adorable animal sidekick!! His name is Hermes and he's perfect

I'm currently writing a book with a fat teenage girl as the protagonist. If it ever gets popular enough in my lifetime to get made into a movie, I will be an absolute HELLION for those directors. I will have it put into CONTRACT that, if they want to put my character on the big screen, THEY WILL USE A FAT ACTRESS.
SO MUCH of the character's identity and struggle is tied to her being fat, and being treated like shit for it. In some ways, she's a LOT like Carrie. But unlike Carrie, my girl survives the abuse, and goes on to prevent the goddamn eldritch apocalypse. If they turned her into a traditional, hot, skinny teen protag I would be fucking LIVID.
Carrie is fat in the book. Learning that completely blew me.
The use of pigs blood makes so much more sense. The reason she was bullied so relentlesly, even though she does nothing to nobody, makes so much more sense. The relationship with her mother makes so much more sense.
I know they aren't going to, but I wish they would cast someone fat in this new Carrie adaptation. From the articles I've seen, they are already speculating which skinny actress it's going to be.
How many times can they tell the story the same exact way? The answer: endlessly.
I don't know what's worse the total erasure of fat people in movies or the only story we get to see ourselves in are the love yourself fatty movies.
#fat protagonist#body positivity#fat positivity#carrie#here's to hoping my book does get popular after publishing#because then I can retroactively add the character's name and the book title into the tags

Do y'all ever get nightmares that just like, aren't scary?

I have some major gripes with the premise of 'Day of the Diesels' and honestly think it could be fixed if, for once, the stale 'Steamies vs Diesels' plotline had been disregarded and the movie actually showcased the diesels in a more sympathetic light.
I'm not here to say characters like Diesel, Arry & Bert, and Diesel 10 are completely blameless in their acquired bad rep. Lets face the fact, they're deceitful, have a rather aggressive approach to things, and more often than not they are out to cause trouble for others because they think it's funny.
But come on man... Going for the same kind of storyline where Steam Engines and Diesel Engines are at each other's buffers just for the fact they're different types of engine is kind of lazy at this point (especially considering the fact this was done before in 'Calling All Engines').
Wouldn't it be much more compelling if, for once, the diesels actually do have a rightful reason to be causing a ruckus (their home is decrepit, unsafe and lacks basic amenities for maintaining them) and (because they feel like they can't be upfront about their concerns due to their past misbehavior), they end up making this grand convoluted scheme that goes terribly sideways, but that ultimately gives way for some actual exploration of why Sir Topham Hatt's management of the diesels feels so underwhelming in comparison with the great care he takes in tending to his steam engines?
It could even be that the fat controller doesn't realize he's neglecting them a bit because he's so focused on trying to keep the steam engines from ever wanting for more (I mean, the time of steam has come to an end in the mainland, so of course he'd be worried about the future of his beloved steam engines he's had for so much longer!).
On a logical standpoint, it's considerably easier to get diesels and new parts for diesels nowadays, so Sir Topham Hatt would postpone something he feels like can be done in the snap of a finger versus something that might potentially take much too long... And that's the mistake here.
The fact the diesels can get new stuff so easily but don't, could be the crux of the issue. Prioritization, procrastination and perhaps a bit of forgetfulness and obliviousness to the mess one has made...
#Thomas and Friends#TTTE#Day of the Diesels#I wouldn't mind a rewrite of the movie where Diesel 10 is the protagonist and it dawns on him that his behavior is impacting the others#So he tries to fix things in the only way he knows how to and screws up anyway#but in doing so he actually manages to point out a glaring issue in the fat controller's management of the railway#it's so easy to think the fat controller treats all engines equally#but the state of the dieselworks put that into question for me#and the plot of big world big adventures does prove thomas is his favourite#I'm not saying he's the villain here just that he's human and humans make mistakes through poor handling of many tasks and a bit of bias#he grew up with steam engines it's only normal he's trying to adjust to handling diesel engines and not being as aware of their needs#also thomas is straight up an asshole in this movie and not the funny cheeky little shit we love#they mishandled his character so badly#(cameo from milfcutlawquane in this she had to suffer through this movie with me)

Started watching the Bayverse movies with my besties and... Are we just too gay for these movies??? Admittedly we only finished the first two and got through a quarter of the third, but the second one was such a drag to sit through at times and it probably doesn't help that we do NOT care about Sam that much. I hope that there is a character arc for him in the rest of the third movie. Because so far he has not been fun to watch in that one. He just comes off as a slight manchild to me, like... I can see why he would be frustrated with where he is in life but the way he acts with others and lashes out does not help him in the slightest. I do have to admit though that seeing him go to Cybertronian Heaven in the second movie was the funniest part for me and my besties lol.
I'll just hope that the other guy in the next movies will be at least a bit more interesting. Doesn't even have to be a good guy, just an interesting guy for me lol
#rintalks#text#transformers#transformers bayverse#A lesbian demigirl a she/they lesbian and a nonbianry bisexual watch Bayverse with alcohol- You'll never guess what happens next#Adding a Drinking Game to your (attempted) movie marathon can increase the fun for the whole group lol#But only when everyone knows how to drink responsibly and does not peer pressure of course#I feel like they made Sam too much of an Everyman that he basically had nothing as a person himself#He is literally a middle-class white teenage boy who is not too smart nor too sporty a bit awkward but says witty lines and-#It feels like so much to just say nothing#No real soft and or hard skills to speak of for this dude#Nothing about him as a person was what was needed in the two movies either#It was so circumstancial#If he wasn't related to his captain/explorer grandfather and had his glasses then he never would've been sucked into the conflict#if he didn't touch the shard in the second movie then he wouldn't have been an accidental cybertronian usb stick#I do admit that the movie wouldn't have come to it's conclusion without his involvement and the knowledge he sucked up but everything else-#It wasn't exactly HIS knowledge and he wasn't the guy who had all the breakthroughs or epiphanies.#Also. Him going to cybertronian heaven lol. All these soldiers also gave their lives to protect Optimus where do they go? Lmao#I feel like Mikaela would've been a better protagonist but considering that it was the 2000s and she was a girl in a “”boy franchise“”-#fat fucking chance man ToT#The way she was driving in reverse while having Bumblebee in the back shoot at Decepticons was som genuinely cool shit ngl#And she only got the car bc she knew how to unlock and jumpstart it!!! Queen shit!!!#I'm so far not a fan of how weirdly enabling Carly is of Sams more immature tendencies but I won't give up hope and just watch!#Maybe they'll break up bc they see they're not good for each other or maybe the trauma will change them and draw them closer to each other#there are many ways to go with both of these characters and their relationship#Am I having too much hope? Probably but I don't want to be too cynical about things lol#makes life a bit more fun that way too#Funnily enough the only characters me and my besties found ourselves slightly attached to were the idiot twins in the second movie#and the little monstertruck guy voiced by Tom Kenny at times. Not in all his scenes but you know. A win is a win.#And of course Bumblebee except for that scene where he pissed on that dude in the first movie that was not it

Charlie is so optimistic and empathic, that she sees the good in everyone. She took a chance on Angel because she could tell he had some good in his heart.
She was right. Angel may be a dick but nobody who treats their pet so well is all bad. He's one of those people who thinks animals are better than people. He's also probably very nice to Keekee.
Cherri bomb may be very violent. She loves and cares for her best friend. She would do anything to make sure Angel felt ok. She's a loyal person with a soft spot for the ones she loves.
I'm sure Niffty has done some very shady things to get involved with Alastor. But she's polite and friendly, she's always helping out around the hotel. She seems like the grandma friend who always makes sure you ate a proper dinner.
I'm excited for an episode where she tries to help Husk. She does her best to befriend him by taking an interest in card games. Suggesting ways for him to have fun without drinking or gambling. She'd probably bring in game nights at the hotel. As a wholsome alternative to gambling.
Inside every demon is a rainbow. Charlie has a heart pure enough to see that. She can help bring the good out in anyone. She's a very good influence on those around her. After juer a few weeks in the hotel, Angel tried to comfort her. Her kindness IS starting to rub off on people around her.
Charlie is a bundle of sunshine and hope. She's like an angel that was sent to give everyone a second chance, and show them the light.

Obligatory Disclaimer #1: Yes, there is a lot of misogyny in the way people talk about the "likability" of female characters. Women in stories can and should be complex, flawed, nuanced, and human, not (just) "likable" (or "sexy" or "mother" or whatever other one-dimensional trope).
Obligatory Disclaimer #2: Yes, I know that an opinion expressed by a character in a story is not necessarily being supported by the narrative itself, or the author, and that people with piss-on-the-poor reading comprehension get this wrong. Good reading comprehension means being able to tell the difference.
Now that we've got that out of the way.
Doesn't it seem like "Female characters don't have to be LIKABLE, you illiterate misogynist!" is often a Privileged Feminist way to silence criticism of... very mainstream bigoted attitudes being presented uncritically in the narrative by being put in the voices of designated "unlikable female characters"?
I love a complex, nuanced, flawed female character. I love an outright villainous female character. I love a character whose flaws and prejudices are slowly picked apart by the narrative. I do not love having the classism, sizeism, and ableism I deal with every day served back to me in Feminist Fiction.
I do not love trying to point out "Hey, this award-winning book you all love, I don't actually like the way the protagonist talks about the working-class fat man. Or the younger woman with anxiety. Or the acquaintance with a disabled child and, like, linoleum floors or something." (Why do I just have all those examples at the ready?)
And being met with "Female characters don't have to be LIKABLE, you illiterate misogynist. Try reading some Serious Literature instead of your fanfic romance YA smut beach reads!"
"Uh, okay, well, it's not so much about the character being likeable as about the way the narrative doesn't seem to challenge the character's, I must reiterate, very widely held prejudices, that makes it seem less like a depiction of a flawed character and more like an uncritical replication of those very widely held prejudices --"
"It's a LITERARY PERSPECTIVE, GOD, didn't you go to SCHOOL? Do you think Lolita is a love story? Do you think Fight Club is about how awesome fighting is?"
"Well, no, but, for example, the way the character was so emotionally abusive to her fat daughter and her neurodivergent son --"
"Uggggh, you don't understand ANYTHING, women don't have to be PERFECT MOTHERS, she's supposed to represent HOW REAL WOMEN FEEL in the face of UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS OF PERFECT MOTHERHOOD!"
"So... the unquestioned-by-the-narrative elitism, classism, sizeism, ableism, and ageism are supposed to be... going against societal expectations?"
"OBVIOUSLY! That's how REAL WOMEN REALLY FEEL!"
"I'm a real woman, and I don't feel that way."
"UGGGGGH, YOU ILLITERATE MISOGYNIST, FEMALE CHARACTERS DON'T HAVE TO BE RELATABLE!"
#whatever book you think i'm talking about#yes it's that one#including the ones i haven't read#because it's all of them#“is this a bold unlikable female protagonist? or just an elitist asshole who vomits classism for 400 pages?”#why is there always a “weak sniveling” young woman with anxiety#why is there always a disgusting fat working class man#why is there always somebody with a disabled child and linoleum floors#linoleum floors are great actually especially if you have a disabled child who throws up a lot#why is there always a former gifted young adult son who dropped out of college for a nervous breakdown or something#why is there always a fat daughter who's actually like a medium#why#why are you thinking of 12 books right now#her husband is cheating with the anxious younger woman and it's supposed to be so pathetic because of how weak and sniveling she is#the family with the linoleum floors and the disabled child will also have a big messy dog who makes messes on the linoleum floors#media criticism#literary trends#lit fic#fandom shit#literary snobbery is socially and politically useless

Honestly the thing I'm most worried about uf they make Eggman fat in Sonic 3 is I'm 95 percent sure they're going to come up with a BS excuse.
Like yes Eggman was planned to slowly turn more game Eggman like as the movies progress (Sonic 1 gave him his red outfit in the end, Sonic 2 made him bald, gave him the signature stache and made him a bit crazy, Sonic 3 might be giving him his signature bulk and probably some other things) and it sucks that they'd have to use a fat suit in order to get Jim to look the part but I don't want it them to phone it in as something like it being an effect of absorbing the Master Emerald and I'll be real disappointed if its something like 'oh, he just let himself go'
Maybe Eggman had a scientific reason to bulk up, or maybe he just thought he looked good with some extra weight, or maybe it is a side effect of something but he knew about it before hand and was okay with it. As long as its more of a choice then I think I'd be more okay with it.
we dont really have the full context yet of course but the descriptions of the teaser going around are making it sound like they went with the "he let himself go and gained a lot of weight" explanation. and idk man maybe it just sounds bad out of context but im tired of fatness being portrayed as gross and a negative trait and weight gain being used to signify a character becoming Worse in some way. fat people are just people and the body type someone has doesnt have any morals attached to it. again maybe it just sounds bad out of context and the movie wont make his weight gain into a joke but my hopes arent high because being weird about fat people is not new for sonic media at all
#ive been saying this forever but they should have just hired a fat actor to begin with since hes always bene a fat character#and theyve always planned to have him gain weight eventually anyway like. whats the point in making him skinny at first#asks#also please for the love of god . dont have sonic making 5 million fat jokes like he was doing in a lot of the older comics/shows#im all for sonic making fun of eggman i think its funny but having the protagonist of your kids movie body shaming people#and this being portrayed as funny and justified issss. not great. even if its directed at a villain.#and its not hard to just not include that sort of thing at all#i would lvoe to be proven wrong and for them to not stoop that low#but idk.
