if there's one thing the labor strike saga from the railway series did, it was unfortunately foreshadow the gigantic thomas problem the series is stuck with nowadays

#funny how it does foreshadow thomas becoming a problem in his own right #definitely unintentional but. yeah #the fat controller creates a labor issue by not having a replacement yard engine in place and creates serious labor disputes #then 80 years later thomas is the face of the franchise and also the biggest visual shorthand for all of its problems #i talk #thomas the tank engine #thomas isn't a bad character. but mattel wants him to be a character who's versatile #instead of the cheeky bastard that nobody likes #the problem with thomas is our overcentralizing forced protagonist himself
