I really am not normal about Cassandra and Kristen Applebees.
There is SO much nuance to this. I'm so furious. But also sad. But also scared. You could say I'm at the alter of mystery and doubt and wondering "hey, what the fuck" or something.
lots of other users are conveying very similar thoughts and feelings and I may throw a post or two in there because that's where I'm at right now.
#Fantasy high junior year#Fantasy high#fhjy#dimension 20#d20#yup. falling into a deep hyperfixation over this#if anyone wants to talk about this plz my inbox is open i am dying and scouring every post i can#what is it with me and purple charactrs#Im never normal about them#anyway.

I’ve seen a wave of fans leaning towards the Marauders fandom and it wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t the post-ATYD, rather delusional part. Do you think it’s something about it that attracts fans? That we’re scaring them off, or that they’re more likeable (with/ without headcanons)?
Honestly, the key is that they’re kids, most of them not even 20 years old, and most of them aren’t exactly the kings of their social circles either. They have a great time projecting themselves into fics through those characters to imagine they’re living in a teenage fantasy where they’re the main characters and everyone adores them in high school. That’s also why they change the personalities of the original characters, because they clearly have nothing in common with them, and if they don’t turn them into pure self-inserts with canon names, they wouldn’t be able to channel their fantasies. That’s also the reason why they justify all their nonsense—because they don’t care. The characters don’t matter to them, the real stories and personalities don’t matter; charactrers are just a means for them to feel like the popular kids for a day. I’ll hold back on saying what I really think about that because I’m too old to be so cruel, but honestly, it makes me very sad.

!!NSFW!!!
My friends and I have a tradition of playing "does this character have sex" whenever we get into a new piece of media, because we always enjoy everything together, and today we spent a few hours discussing TWST charactrs. They found out that I now have a Tumblr blog and told me I should "post our very scientific findings for the interwebs" (Note that we are all between the ages of 16-17, so in the same age group as the characters)
Heartslabyul (general judgement): The virgin one
Riddle: no, and he somehow doesn't even know what sex is. You'd think he'd know with how much he studies about everything you learn in school, so even sex-ed but no, he doesn't know
Ace: gray area, no bitches respectfully, except maybe Deuce, but we couldn't agree on that, he would treat it as "it's just a prank bro, no homo"
Deuce: yeah, sure, I mean he's pretty okay looking, not often tho
Cater: he seems like he'd be a dicord kitten or an insta-thot, he tries but doesn't really succeed, maybe once or twice.
Trey: no, because he actually wears a fedora, unironically. "he's as bland as the flour he uses in his cakes"-my friend#2
Savanaclaw (general judgement): Gahdayumm!!
Leona: YES! absoulutley 100% just look at him, but he'd be one of those lazy tops, is very casual about it, there isn't a lot to say because it's just so obvious that he is 100% a sex haver
Ruggie: Hard to say, he has an Italian souding name so maybe no, he hasn't yet discovered that he can earn quite a lot of money that way, or maybe he has (we couldn't agree on this)
Jack: gay wolf boyfirend fantasy so yes, big buff man go brrrr
Octavinelle (general judgement): ehhhh, fish go brrr
Azul: this was a very hard one to decide but in the end no, no real reason just doesn't seem like he would have it, he's on that alpha buisness grindset
Jade: Yes becazse friend#1 said so (she's a strong Jade stan) and everyone decided to let her have this one, but everybody else generally thinks he is Asexual (friend#1 is also ace)
Floyd: yes, he is bisexual in wicked and scheming ways and everybody is aware of that. Chaos bi, him and Jade are two side of a coin, all or nothing. He flirts by messing with people, mostly Riddle but as I've already said Riddle has no idea what's going on and just thinks Floyd has it out for him
Scarabia (general judgement): This was the hardest one to discuss
Kalim: He is very lovable, but no, for unknown reasons, boy has 0 rizz
Jamil: yeah, ig, normal 17 year old guy, he isn't basic like Trey, but he just doesn't have time because of Kalim
Pomefiore (general judgement): slayyy!
Vil: Yes, and his standards are surprisingly not as high as you'd think, we got very heated about how people often mischaracterize him as a very vain but he just wants people to be themselves and best version of themselves. Good for cardio
Rook: yes, in freaky kinky ways (see Rook alchemy card) he sometimes has touble finding people who are into the same stuff as him
Epel: no, beacause he is an "alpha male" in the worst ways possible
Ignihyde (General judgement): you'd think they be reddit mods, but they actually tumblr sexymen
Idia: yes, he has that disheveled rizz, the more they look like they haven't left the house since 2015 the better. We stan broken men in this household(blog), only on halloween tho that's when his confidence get's a bit better and he becomes and active member of society
Ortho: he is a robot based on a young child! NO!
Diasomnia (General judgement): oooh spooky~~
Malleus: yeah sure
Silver: gray are (they demanded I make that pun, pls forgive me)
Lillia: He is the most slay character, an old vampire/fae obviously yes. He has a lot of experience, best sex haver he's so amazing, Lillia for the win
Sebek: no
Staff (general judgement): a very mixed bag
Crowley: someone somwhere slept with him, he is kinda usless but he gets laid, look at his vacation outfit
Crewel: Definetly, high standards but he is correct, he gets to have high standards, he is the perfect man, not a DILF but also not not one
Trein: yes, loyal to his wife (rip tho), good husband 10/10 would trust him, good man
Vargas: Yeah, he's a typical good looking guy, he has never had a long term relationship but he doesn't want one
Sam: We debated for a long time and decided that yes he does have sex

can I send you another silly ask lol I'm curious about how your characterisation of each character came about. across all of your next gen aus and canon lol. I've got my own next gen ocs for another fandom and some of them were a full character immediately while others I still have no idea. I have to assume making like aesthetic edits and stuff helps you with that but what else? did you have to think about it much or did some appear in your mind with a full personality and vibe already?
so a lot of it depends i would definitely say some appeared in my mind more fulfledged than others (charactrers like henry jr, parker, sheridan, & pj i had a pretty solid handle on from the start whereas like melinda, tamora, dj & mikey morris, and patricia halliwell-trudeau were definitely slower processes and a lot of coming up with something then scratching it lol). but, in general, for next gen specifically, i would say my greatest influence is both parents + birth order, just because i think those are the thing that will make a next gen character feel the most like a next gen character to the audience. it is a personal pet peeve of mine where next gen media kind of goes yeah they were kind of shitty parents like. those are the people i grew up with!! you shut your whore mouth!!! (no i am still not over the characterization of aang in lok.) but yeah, so like, a large part of what their character is like will come from what i perceive their childhood to be like. so for example: pj, phoebe and coop's eldest, is def going to be a romantic and totally going to meddle in everyone's business, and then, being the eldest, is also going to have that protective/overprotective streak we see so often modeled by the eldest sibling in charmed, as well as her own mother (think back to when paige was with richard). so next gen does offer a kind of cheat sheet like that.
there is, of course, a little more difficulty when, like, you just straight up don't really know which route to go/where to start. for melinda, i had trouble because she's already coming in on two really strong personalities: wyatt & chris, who also already have an established dynamic without her. for this, i really just kind of worked backwards to establish what i didn't want. for melinda (and this is personal preference) i really didn't want the stereotypical ya 2014 badass heroine who wears eyeliner and black leather jackets. for starters, i feel like those tropes have gotten really overdone, especially in the urban fantasy medium, and then secondly i just didn't want everyone in this family to be the same kick ass leather boots type (which, given that i already had visions for parker, henry jr, kat, chris, pj, etc who all kind of fit comfortably into those ya tropes, i really wanted someone on the softer side). i also think that like, for her, piper and leo are you know they have this tenderness this sweetness and i wanted to embody that. so i didn't want black leather melinda, but narrowing it down further i also really didn't want doormat melinda either. again, we're looking at her parents. they're stubborn, they're fighters, they don't take shit. so i wanted to work to combine a softness and like a take no shit vibe. from there it was just kind of holding up puzzle pieces in my mind until i found ones that fit (e.g. i think she swears at her brothers and calls them out on shit but i think outside of the home she's a lot more passive not everything needs to be a fight because quite frankly she's got plenty of tension in her life already no need to be adding more, she's shy when it comes to love interests, she's a perfectionist, she's a mom friend/mama bear, all just little character quirks that exist in my little character brain bank that i decided i liked how they worked for her)
there is the separate category of the true oc, one who has not previously engaged with canon at all, and those are usually shaped through motivation, and their motivation is usually shaped by what i need to happen in the plot. so, for viola, for example, her main motivation is a wish to be left in peace. why? well, because i wanted kat to try to find the twice blessed and that kind of meant the twice blessed had to be hiding. so for that main motivation, a couple potential pathways arose: she could straight up not give a fuck and be apathetic towards the whole thing. she could be scared of her destiny and not want any part of it out of fear of herself/her own power. she could not want to complete her destiny because doing so would involve making a choice she feels like she can't make. i ended up going for the last one bc to me it definitely seemed the most fun. based off canon, i decided that the twice blessed destiny, while never explicitly stated in canon, was to wipe out all evil. of course, this meant there was the flipside there was the potential to wipe out all good. now i feel like to the average person this has a fairly easy answer like if you could wipe out all mosquitos. like, yes, you know there are prob going to be some like ramifications from removing a species from existence, but, like, fuck those guys. also, hello, malaria? i feel like you'd be saving a lot of people. so like i felt like i needed to give her some tie to evil, some bond, something that would motivate her not to want to destroy evil because if she did she'd be destroying her loved ones. next question is why/how does she love something evil. so i built her a backstory of being raised in a defect clan (witches who have turned into warlocks, something we established could happen in the show), giving her a different perspective of being people raised in say the manor might have. from her backstory more parts of her personality started to bloom, she doesn't let herself be tread on and hates feeling like a pawn in someone else's game, she's very protective over the ones she loves and is willing to remove herself from their lives to save them, she likes helping people, she likes making people smile, her sense of humor can be a little bit twisted and she thinks selfish people should be cut down before they hurt others.
i hope this helped answer you question if you have any more qs just let me know and i will do my best to answer
#short answer i usual work external to internal#what are their external factors#and how would that shape someone's personality#writing advice#💌

hello hello mermie!! i'm interested in hearing ur answers about the questions 44, 57 and 71 😌
ru. 🥺🌾 hello. 😌 thank-u for saving me from myself. 🥹
44. What is your favorite genre to write?
romance. 🥹 romantic fantasy if i had to get specific, although i guess it hasn’t shown up much in the fics yet. 😦 if i had to narrow it down further, i’d say YA romantic fantasy! the constraints of a younger cast make it fun lmao, because you have the added challenge of trying not to carbon date yourself and making them believable to their generation and also not being able to rely on the same tricks we might use for older characters to establish (romantic) connection (like—the world of a relationship opens up for us differently when sex is a real, immediate possibility! when you’re a kid—a teenager—like yeah the hormones are there obviously but within the rules of like, the genre, it’s not meant to be the draw like it is for adult fiction! so it means like, figuring out how a connection/attraction impacts your charactrers when they’re wayyyy more limited than an adult one would be).
57. How conscious are you about including symbolism or foreshadowing in your fics?
very conscious about the foreshadowing, i’d say; less so with the symbolism. 🧐 i find that second one tends to sneak in, although sometimes i’ll be very conscious of a motif i want for a piece!!! i try not to overthink things in regards to that. 🥹 but overall, i think foreshadowing is much easier because it’s like—laying down brick work!!! gotta build those foundations.
71. Do you spend more time reading or writing?
🥹 writing, this year. reading tends to always fall to the wayside for me if i’m trying to write! saying that, i think reading is important for recharging—showing how to do things differently. how to enjoy different things, as opposed to being too caught up in your own head. 🥺

#STAGBLED : the BLACK HERETIC, general kirigan, the starless saint. make me your villain. an independent, private, head-canon based, low activity & mutuals only ❛❛ ALEKSANDER MOROZOVA, AKA THE DARKLING ❜❜ of shadow & bone: a study in dark versus light, loneliness, power & the temptation in the dark, martyr & sacrifice, redemption, koschei the deathless, and the byronic hero. 18+ and triggering themes. affiliated with stagflood. dissected by syl. BLOG IS A WIP. CARRD COMING SOON. INTEREST TRACKER.
other requestable muses include: will graham from nbc's hannibal, bunny corcoran from the secret history, glenn rhee from twd & more below.
rules (carrd tba) 01. just don't be a dick. if you don't like the nuance of a villain that showcases both morally grey actions plus the exploration of humanity within that, then don't follow! this goes without saying but muse does not equate mun. the darkling is a villain and all his relationships will be affected by that. his beliefs and trauma do not justify his actions - he is interesting because he thinks they do.
02. low activity. mutuals only. plot-heavy. duplicate friendly. multi and oc friendly as well. canon-divergent.
03. i will explore the ship darklina - including all the abusive and toxic elements that shroud it. it's important to the darkling and an interesting relationship to explore, as alina is his foil and obsession. i do not expect anyone to reciprocate shipping or desire it - just that i am simply open to exploration of a complicated relationship, wherever it may go. otherwise, chemistry is the must for anything. will tag '/darklina' and '/nsfw' in any posts that contain it. i am open to shipping with other charactres/ocs/the like as long as there is something there worth exploring.
04. that being said: dark topics will be explored. i do not support the idea of censorship of any form of art. however, i do ask that you tag anything that has to do heavily with grooming/csa/domestic abuse. if something i write needs a tag, just hop in my ims. i'm pretty easy to talk to and willing to accommodate those that ask.
05. still getting through the books so please be patient with me! that being said, alot of what i write will be headcanon, canon-divergent, and influenced by personal interpretation. some influences that will incorporate will be general gothic tropes of the byronic hero and being enticed by the dark. the tale of koschei the deathless may also be present and a reoccurring motif.
06. i reject the ending given to aleksander. while i am fine with his death (though, consider that null here) i do not follow the events of him being resurrected at all unless redeveloped via plotting. i will instead be following a canon-divergent path to be fleshed out soon. though the general idea is that aleksander lives and chooses to do so, facing his loneliness, wherever that leads him.
mun: hi, i'm syl! i'm a twenty-six year old literature and classics (greek focus) major. i adore tragedies, gothic horror and fantasy. i collect moth taxidermy and i love morbid things.
this is a tentative list of muses that will also make occasional appearance on this blog. feel free to request any of them: allison argent from teen wolf. adrian ivashkov from vampire academy. *bunny corcoran from the secret history. daemon targaryen from house of dragon/asoiaf. dorian gray from the picture of dorian gray. *glenn rhee from the walking dead. hannibal lecter from nbc's hannibal. jem carstairs from the infernal devices. love quinn from you. *maggie greene from the walking dead. patroclus from mythology + a song of achilles. *theon greyjoy from game of thrones. *will graham from nbc's hannibal. * = high muse. verses to come for aleksander: tlou, modern, canon divergences, twd, asoiaf, shadowhunters, vampire.

Rading fantasy again, I'v startd thinking about how odd it is how in books lik that, th non-human racs invariably scoff at human frailty and vulnrability, vn thos that thy'll call frinds. Lik that's man?? Why would you b a dick to your frind who you know is not capabl of as much as you ar, and it's not thir fault thy wr born lik that. That's man.
Lik considr th opposit: Charactrs of non-human racs trating thir human companions lik frail littl old dogs. Worrying about small wounds bing fatal - humans di of small injuris all th tim - or bing surprisd that humans can actually at salt, vn if thy can't stomach othr spicy rocks. Bing amazd that a human frind thy havn't sn in 10 yars still looks so young, thy'v hardly agd at all! And whn th human tris to xplain that thy wrn't going to just unxpctdly shrivl into a raisin in 10 yars, th longr-lifspan frind dismisss this lik no, h's sn it happn, you don't s a human for 10 or 20 yars and thy'v shrivld in a blink.
lvs arguing with ach othr lik "you can't tak hr out thr, sh will di!" and whn th human gts thr to ask what thy'r talking about, thy xplain to hr that th journy will tak thm through a passag whr it's going to b sunny out thr. Humans burn in th sun. And sh will hav to clarify that no, actually, sh'll b fin. Thy fight hr about it, until sh manags to convinc thm that it's not lik vampirs - humans only burn a littl bit in th sun, not all th way through. Sh'll b fin if sh just wars a hat.
Manwhil dwarvs ar rluctant to allow humans in thir mins and citis, not just out of bing scrtiv, but bcaus thy know that you cannot bring humans undrground, thy will go insan if thy go too long without sing th sun. Nobody is ntirly sur how long that is, but th gnral consnsus is thr days. On tim a human tris to xplain thir dwarf companion that this is not tru, thr ar humans that ndur much longr darknss than that. As a mattr of fact, in th furthst habitd cornrs of th lands of th Northmn, th wintr sun barly riss at all. Humans can surviv thr wks of darknss, and not just onc, but vry singl yar.
"Thn how do thy san?" Asks th dwarf, and just as h dos, th convrsation gts intrruptd by th northland human, who had bn avsdropping, and turns to look at thm with an unnrving glint in hr colourlss gry ys, grinning whil saying
"That's th nat part, w don't."
Reading fantasy again, I've started thinking about how odd it is how in books like that, the non-human races invariably scoff at human frailty and vulnerability, even those that they'll call friends. Like that's mean?? Why would you be a dick to your friend who you know is not capable of as much as you are, and it's not their fault they were born like that. That's mean.
Like consider the opposite: Characters of non-human races treating their human companions like frail little old dogs. Worrying about small wounds being fatal - humans die of small injuries all the time - or being surprised that humans can actually eat salt, even if they can't stomach other spicy rocks. Being amazed that a human friend they haven't seen in 10 years still looks so young, they've hardly aged at all! And when the human tries to explain that they weren't going to just unexpectedly shrivel into a raisin in 10 years, the longer-lifespan friend dismisses this like no, he's seen it happen, you don't see a human for 10 or 20 years and they've shriveled in a blink.
Elves arguing with each other like "you can't take her out there, she will die!" and when the human gets there to ask what they're talking about, they explain to her that the journey will take them through a passage where it's going to be sunny out there. Humans burn in the sun. And she will have to clarify that no, actually, she'll be fine. They fight her about it, until she manages to convince them that it's not like vampires - humans only burn a little bit in the sun, not all the way through. She'll be fine if she just wears a hat.
Meanwhile dwarves are reluctant to allow humans in their mines and cities, not just out of being secretive, but because they know that you cannot bring humans underground, they will go insane if they go too long without seeing the sun. Nobody is entirely sure how long that is, but the general consensus is three days. One time a human tries to explain their dwarf companion that this is not true, there are humans that endure much longer darkness than that. As a matter of fact, in the furthest habited corners of the lands of the Northmen, the winter sun barely rises at all. Humans can survive three weeks of darkness, and not just once, but every single year.
"Then how do they sane?" Asks the dwarf, and just as he does, the conversation gets interrupted by the northland human, who had been eavesdropping, and turns to look at them with an unnerving glint in her colourless grey eyes, grinning while saying
"That's the neat part, we don't."

hey i love the book carry on & ive never read its sequel bc CO felt like it ended exactly where i wanted. i do love the charactrs tho& would love to see more of them. ive seen u very briefly mention its sequel so i think uve read it, even if u werent a huge fan. do u think reading it might be worth it or is it better to stick w CO? (obvs u dnt know exactly what i like from 1 ask & also if u dnt feel like talking abt sequel i get it. just thought id ask.) have a great day! :)
okay um. i'm afraid this is a subject i am entirely incapable of being objective about.
i thought the sequel was quite literally one of the worst books i've ever read in my life. i made a goodreads account solely to write a very long 1 star review of it within a week of it coming out (here.) i wrote angry notes all over my copy (i found something to hate on every single page!) then threw it in the recycling because i didn't want to dignify it with a second-hand shop. i have vowed never to read the threequel because the amount of anger and betrayal i felt after reading WS was genuinely bad for my health.
i would say... there is very little, if anything, to be gained from reading WS. it's not like more of CO. it's a very different book. the tone and atmosphere are completely different. removing the context of the archetypical fantasy story and the war means the characters need to be reimagined significantly (and, in my opinion, a lot of depth is lost in translation - so they don't really feel like themselves. or like real people at all.) the themes, such as they are, don't really pull together to say anything like what carry on said, or... anything in particular, honestly. CO treats its characters incredibly gently, but at times WS feels outright cruel, especially in its portrayal of vampires. and frankly, the writing quality is just much poorer than CO's. prose, dialogue, pacing, you name it. it reads like a first draft.
however, a lot of people DO seem to enjoy it, some of whom have since written fanfiction which i think displays a good and nuanced understanding of the original book, so... it's hypothetically possible to get something out of it. i guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
#sorry anon i have like a twenty page tag purely dedicated to my fiery seething hatred of that book#it's the reason i stopped reading CO fanfic in 2021 and have yet to start again#time to use some very old tags:#wayward son negative#post book grumbling#now no-one can get angry at me for also tagging it:#carry on

Rhys is the trekadisk attached to Vyxen. The rumour is he owns her and not the other way around. He has an attitude only a mother — or a fool — could love. Vyxen is both to him. A black and purple striped cat, he only shows affection on his terms. He’s prone to violence and will swipe at anyone he thinks isn’t respecting him. His biggest fan is D’nag, who follows him around and is his partner in crime. It’s suggested they’re from the same litter and Rhys is merely protecting his derpy runt of the litter sibling, hinting he’s not quite as awful a trekadisk as everyone says.
