Fanfic Writer Questionnaire
I found this great questionnaire! Post is here. I thought I would answer these for fun. I'd love to see other fanfic writer's answers to these as well, if you want!
List all the fandoms you have written in:
The Arcana, Fire Emblem, Jujutsu Kaisen, The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings, My Hero Academia, Castlevania, The Elder Scrolls
How many published fics have you written?
I currently have 22 up on AO3! And a smattering of random Tumblr exclusive short fics.
In terms of wordcount, in which fandom have you written the most?
The Arcana, by far. My total word count for the fandom (excluding headcanons and Tumblr-exclusive fics) is 153,453 words.
At the moment, which one of your fics is your favorite/you are the most proud of? (you can include unpublished fics)
I am definitely most proud of End Up Here. It's my longest work yet and has been an incredible journey so far. It's helped me prove to myself that I a) can write something novel length and b) can stick with one project and be dedicated to it. I feel like it's my love letter to the Arcana, as a piece of media that has helped me find my voice.
Which writer (fanfiction or not) inspires your own work?
J.R.R. Tolkien and Kazuo Ishiguro (mostly in my non-fanfiction writing, but I'm sure they've inevitably inspired elements of my fanfic writing in some way or another, too).
What was your first fanfic about?
Oh gosh. If we are talking very first fanfic that has never seen the light of day, then Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and Star Trek: Voyager (back when I was like 11 or 12 haha). But if we are talking published ones, then it was a spicy Xander x Reader for Fire Emblem: Fates.
Out of all the characters whose POV you have written, which one do you feel you identify the most with?
Great question. Probably Julian Devorak. But I don't necessarily feel that I fully identify with any of them. Just elements of each character I write about, in one way or another. But Julian's tendency towards feeling guilty for things he didn't do and his journey to accept his own strength are things that resonate with me.
What do you feel is your biggest challenge when writing?
Overcoming the idea of perfectionism. I have the tendency to get frustrated and scrap everything when I feel like it's not up to the standard I want it to be. But I'm trying to remind myself that a first draft is a first draft for a reason: it does not have to be perfect. End Up Here has really helped me in learning that lesson, since I write each chapter as I go. There's only one round of me editing each chapter before I publish it, so it's been a huge learning curve for me. And freeing as well.
Do you generally outline your fics or do you prefer to write spontaneously and then revise?
I do a skeleton of an outline and scribble unintelligible notes on scraps of paper or in my notes app on my phone. But a lot of my writing now is just me going with the flow and letting the characters tell me the story. I used to plan a lot, but it became sort of toxic for me and my tendency towards perfectionism, so I stopped being so precise about it. I let things change as they need to.
Which one of your fanfics has the most hits? the most comments? the most kudos? (if applicable)
Intimate has the most by far on AO3! And Upon a Forest Throne has the most on Tumblr. Thank you to everyone for the support and all your many kindnesses 💜
What proportion, if any, of your fics are rated M or above (# of M-plus fics/ total # of fics)?
86% of my fics are rated M or above. I mostly write adult content.
Finally, tease us with the title of one of your upcoming fics:
So, I'm going to come out with a Gojo x Nanami x Reader fic sometime in the future. I plan on calling it Starlight. Here's a teeny little snippet from it:
How Satoru manages to trap infinity in his eyes is a mystery to you. His blindingly azure gaze meets yours, a vast expanse of twinkling starlight imprisoned in icy pools of blue. You glance to the side, met with Kento's softer, brown eyes. He is the sun, radiant and warm, the quiet light of early dawn and late evening. This must be what it feels like to be enveloped by the very fibers of the universe. Held in a delicate balance.
Thank you for reading! This questionnaire was super fun to answer :)

Are you someone who roleplays online, or has ever done so, as part of a fandom?
Take this questionnaire, and your answers will help to inform the topics to be covered in a book about fandoms and online roleplaying, currently in the development phase - "OOC: Exploring Online Fandom Roleplay".
It will be a deep dive into the positive and negative aspects of roleplay communities within fandoms and the safety of children in these spaces. More details at the start of the questionnaire!
A few minutes of your time will be a huge help. Feel free to share the link with anyone you know who does fandom roleplay, and to reblog this post!

OC Question tag thing ! (thanks for the tag @justafunctionalmess ✨)
Rules: Answer the questions provided with your own OCs perspective. Then create new questions for those tagged to continue the game.
Tagging: @maitaitiu @illegalcryptid @ladyqueerfoot @limeandgreenfrog @maizenolo @mastermindlissi @lasthaysileeshipper
Your Questions are: What do you do for fun? Who is the most important person (or people) in your life? What do you like and hate most about where you live?
Answering as Venatrix from True Vengeance (after the events of the story - spoilers ahead)
My questions were:
1) What brings you joy?
“Heh, that’s a hard one right now…” [nobody laughs] “I guess, um, being outside is nice. Like, when there’a no one around to bother you, out on the trails and stuff. There are a couple behind the Village in the mountains, I like to go running back there. It’s nice not having to think about anything except pushing yourself forwards. So—exercise too, I guess. And—it’s been ages, especially since I can’t use my dominant hand to fight anymoreI miss how it used to feel when I’d fight with my sword. Don’t know if that really falls under joy, it’s a little more intense sometimes, but, like, it sings… if you have the right opponent…” […] “Sorry. Um. I have people, that used to bring me joy. It hurts, to think about them, but sometimes its good…? I don’t know. My brother tells good jokes too. I also like ice cream. …I guess that’s more things than I thought. Huh.”
2) What motivates you?
“I can tell you what used to motivate me: winning the Games and avenging my sister’s death. Then I won the Games. And my sister is still dead. And so is my best friend, and my—my Mari, and so many… I don’t know what motivates me anymore, but they won’t stop being dead. …I told the Head Gamemaker I wanted to kill him so—” [laughs weakly] “—maybe that.”
3) Do you feel guilt and if so what for?
“Oh. Uh—I killed eight people. Most of them—most of them didn’t deserve it. Maybe some of them did, but I…argh. I let my best friend die. I let my sister die. I killed the girl that I—that I wanted to love. That I—I could have loved, in another life. Maybe. I did, I… I almost killed my father. He deserved it, but I still… The only reason I am alive is because twenty-five people aren’t—I didn’t win anything, I just made it worse. I didn’t mean to make it worse.”
This was a fun one (:

[20 Question Fic Writer Game]
Shamelessly stolen after I saw @needle-noggins did this....
How many works do you have on AO3? 39, but that's deceptive because two of them are alternate endings to two others and 31 of them are 100-word drabbles.
What is your AO3 word count? 51,620
What fandoms do you write for? Primarily Attack on Titan (mostly Eruri), but also Jujutsu Kaisen (mostly Satosugu), Given, Sk8 (Matchablossom), the occasional Chainsaw Man (AkiAngel), and a handful of others
What are your top five fics by kudos? What You Want (Eruri), What You Want: Reflection (companion piece to What You Want), Balanced within the Ring (AkiAngel drabble), It Keeps Away the Bad Touch (AkiAngel drabble), No Accounting for Taste (Satosugu drabble)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Sure, as long as I think the comment was made in good faith. I want people to know their comments were seen and appreciated, and sometimes I want to rant a bit about my writing process.
What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Hmm.... Probably A Slip of the Heart (Orufrey), but don't read it unless you're up to Chapter 40 in Tongari Boushi no Atelier/Witch Hat Atelier, as it has some MAJOR spoilers.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? This depends a bit on what one feels qualifies as a happy ending. I think I have more funny endings than actual happy ones (and more angst than funny ones). Maybe A Rewarding Meal (Matchablossom) or No Accounting for Taste (Satosugu)?
Do you get hate on fics? Oh, I'm not NEARLY popular enough for that.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I have written smut, and I might again in the future, but it's not really my thing. If I'm gonna write it, it's probably gonna be some sort of yaoi hurt/comfort.
Do you write crossovers? Not really, though I do have an idea for a Promare crossover series with... um... everything, really.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge.
Have you ever had a fic translated? Alas, no. Though I might try translating some of my fics on my own for funsies.
Have you ever cowritten a fic before? Yes, but nothing that's posted on AO3.
What's your all-time favourite ship? Yeah, there's a reason my longest project is Eruri.
What's a WIP you'd like to finish but doubt you ever will? It's a Satosugu one that's a bunch of unsent emails from Geto to Gojo.
What are your writing strengths? Uhhhh... I feel like this is a question best asked of those who've read my fics.
What are your writing weaknesses? I get very caught up on things being as canon compliant as I can make them. Also, I like starting my sentences with conjunctions.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I mean, why not? But it's a good idea to get someone with fluency in that language to double-check it for you. Buuuuut don't let bad grammar in a foreign language stop you from writing what you want to write. If you're writing it for formal publishing, your agent/editor/publisher will help you clean it up. If you're writing for informal publishing... well, have you seen the spelling/grammar/syntax people use in their native tongues? Seriously, just go for it. Maybe be prepared to take some flack from native speakers, though.
First fandom you wrote for? Ooh, gonna show my age here. Transformers/Beast Wars.
Favourite fic you've ever written? Definitely the What You Want series, but specifically the epilogue, Memories and Promises, which can be read without reading any of the rest of the series.
Tagging @revenantghost, @nepentheisms, @iwritenarrativesandstuff, and anyone else who'd like to steal it from me the way I stole it from someone else.

The OC narrative questionnaire thing-Swashbucklers of the Magic Kingdom
15. Well! It looks like a couple of no good bad guys are trying to snatch [5].  Why on earth would they do that? How much trouble would they have? What if [1] got involved?—> Well! It looks like a couple of no good bad guys are trying to snatch Scar.  Why on earth would they do that? How much trouble would they have? What if Chris got involved?
Elsewhere
Scar isn’t exactly on good terms with a lot of people, and if he got snatched it’s probably because he tried to screw them over first. If they got the drop on him or lured him into a trap they could overpower him, but he’s surprisingly capable in hand-to-paw fighting, especially since he has no scruples about fighting dirty.
Nevertheless, Chris still considers him a friend and will stage a full-scale rescue, complete with clashing swords and André complaining about how why he has to rescue Scar too (while still helping anyway).

Fanfic Writer Questionnaire
woohoo <3
List all the fandoms you have written in:
blue lock, tokyo Rrevengers, haikyu!!, prince of tennis, katekyo hitman reborn, yu-gi-oh hahahaha
How many published fics have you written?
29 currently plus last time i checked i had 25+ on fanfiction.net so like, 55+
In terms of wordcount, in which fandom have you written the most?
i don’t have the exact numbers now ‘cause AO3 is down HAHA but most likely tokyo revengers
At the moment, which one of your fics is your favorite/you are the most proud of? (you can include unpublished fics)
my favorites, as well as the two i’m by far proudest of are cheesecake, smoke, and mirrors (my last sanzu fic) and my ongoing sae x reader, hungry hearts. the cheesecake fic felt like, that one sanzu story that i’ve always wanted to write for myself. hungry hearts is like, every single fun thing i’ve learned and experienced in the process of writing my other multi-chapter fics in the past, i’m able to appreciate those things more this time, twice as much. i can’t explain it any other way hahaha.
Which writer (fanfiction or not) inspires your own work?
i very very very much admire kazuo ishiguro’s layered and understated writing. i’m also inspired by the fearlessness and grace of carmen maria machado’s words (i try my best!!!). and i don’t know if this counts, but i am also unable to shake off the tendency to be as matter-of-fact and dry as david foster wallace...which i am usually wary of not because DFW is bad (it’s the opposite!!!!), but because it takes skill to really pull it off 😭😭😭 and i can’t!
What was your first fanfic about?
lololollll it was a katekyo hitman reborn fic. OC whose uniform ribbon gets askew, and hibari the prefect reprimands her.
Out of all the characters whose POV you have written, which one do you feel you identify the most with?
oh god hahaha. i think sakusa kiyoomi. it’s his being lowkey, just wants to do the best he can. results are not in his control so he derives happiness just from doing things well.
What do you feel is your biggest challenge when writing?
i have to stop rereading old fics/chapters and then coming up with ideas/ways i could’ve written certain portions and then regretting my decisions. i guess my biggest challenge would be letting go of the idea of perfection.
Do you generally outline your fics or do you prefer to write spontaneously and then revise?
i do an outline, but sometimes the outline (depending on how inspired i am at that particular moment) could turn into a rough draft, and then i write the thing For Real on a separate document.
Which one of your fanfics has the most hits? the most comments? the most kudos? (if applicable)
just from what i remember since again AO3 is down at the moment 😭
most hits: i want to love you in my own language (which is basically a compilation of all my TR one-shots) most comments: songs about toxic people most kudos: freedomscapes (my sakusa fic)
What proportion, if any, of your fics are rated M or above (# of M-plus fics/ total # of fics)?
i think…like 80%.
Finally, tease us with the title of one of your upcoming fics:
hahaha no title yet, but i am planning on writing another sae fic. i could tease the next chapter of hungry hearts, though! the title is going to be In media res.
***
yay, thanks for reading! 🕷

Mini-hell Questionnaire VI
This is undoubtedly one of my favorite questionnaires, Abraham's answers were very... Curious, particular and very remarkable. Below is my cousin Abraham's questionnaire:
1.- Favorite character(s) and because : Marcus god. The truth is his character development is god, he has a lot of charisma and the expressions he showed in the comic were god.
2.-Least Favorite Character: Arceus, for fuck's sake since his actions and gestures piss me off. He's lucky he's part of the side of good, though his decision to exterminate humanity leads him to be a temper tantrum villain. I mean, he decided to annihilate an entire race just because a single human betrayed him even though it is made clear that he lowered himself to his level to be with Damos and after the "tragedies" now he thought he was God and with a lot of authority to decide that, I find it extremely unfair and irritating from his side.
3.-Favorite Moment: The hot scenes 7w7
4.-Least Favorite Moment:All the scenes where Arceus is a pretentious fucker who thinks he's a big shot.
5.-Ask Star! (Ask me any question):What were you thinking when you paired Damos and Arceus?
6.-Favorite chapter: 3 and 5, long live love.
7.-Least favorite chapter: 6 and 7 (fuck your mother Rebeca).
8.- Theory:Damos, comes back from the dead, but without any time travel and all that.
9.-Mistery favorite: How big is the (...) of Arceus? XD
(You know what he is referring to, he is not talking about his height).
10.- And how plus exclusive for comic book people:Final you would like to see:
Ok, if you ask for it *gets ready to dictate*.
Get back together again.
Abraham, I need more details, you can't just leave it at that.
Are you sure, Rebeca?
Yes, everyone has put at least something to their desired end.
Ok, if you ask for it *gets ready to dictate*.
(From this point on, they won't know what to say).
Let Damos come back from the dead, fix the misunderstanding, let them both resume their relationship and JUST when they give each other the final kiss (for this I've been preparing my whole life with my grandmother XD) the still scene should slowly darken to total black and you should hear "You're right, this is very cool".
A few moments later appear Damos with a white background to break the fourth wall and tell the moral of the story.
(Here there is no turning back with this ending).
Finally, let Marcus will gradually fade away surrounded by a white aura and that aura will be directed towards the sky with a peaceful smile, for he is THE ROSE OF MARCUS.
Seconds after the credits, a Headshowder commercial, a Lala milk commercial, a commercial for another soap opera or the new episode of the soap opera "Cómo dice el dicho", so that at 3 in the afternoon Peppa pig comes out >:D.
I have no words for this ending, I can only say that nobody would complain about this ending, absolutely NOBODY XD.

Sharing because I am back and better (worse) than before!
Keiko has a lot!! She's the one who created Kaede's "The Angel of the Underworld" after all. And calling Sanzu a "dog like her". And calling Ran a "golden piece of shit". She's creative that way.
Keiko, obviously, because she's taken so many names, but what she enjoys the most is being called the Mad Dog because it's just… classic.
Teresa! Because that isn't actually even her real name. "Teresa von Borcken" is such a pretty name, that the Howling Dog of Hell, Marchosias chose to remain with it for centuries.
Shikai, because she's a storyteller. Duh? And she likes the mystique of it all; Shikaku no Shikai. It all depends on how "shikaku" is written. Is it "vision"? "Assassin"? "Dead space"?
Yuriko. At the start, she's swaying between being what she's supposed to be and being what she wants to be. But in the end, and spoiler, she does what is best… which is to be what she needs to be. So, of course, she takes her work (and her tragedy) with her all the time. But she still has time to go out into the world and go on "dates that aren't supposed to be dates but actually are."
Akari, she's doing odd jobs here and there, but the real work that does pay bores her. She doesn't want to be kept in a dark room with bright, bright screens forever. And sure, control of surveillance is almost powerful, but not if she can't do anything about it.
Setsuna wanted to be both like Kamen Baika (in-universe Kamen Rider) and Jackson Bond (in-universe James Bond) when she was younger because, who wouldn't want to a masked crimefighter and an international spy at the same time? However, she does learn that there's a reason why their stories are so fantastic and amazing… because they're not as real as the situation she's in.
Varhela would tell you something that sounds it's out of a history book, I feel. She'll describe everything in detail, all emotions, all sights, and you'll fall asleep not because of the length or the droll, but because her voice is just… sleep-inducing.
Fumiko would tell you she doesn't know what it would be, but everyone knows it would be from her childhood.
Senryu would tell you it's about the time she was sent to another universe and got… well… fucked.
1. What, if any, nicknames does your OC have for the people in their life?
2. Which OC brags about a nickname they've been given?
2a. What do they find brag-worthy about it?
3. Which OC goes only by a nickname?
4. Which OC gave themself a new name at some point in their life?
4a. Was there anything that drew them to choosing that specific name?
5. Do any of your OCs take their occupational title/role particularly seriously?
5a. How much of their work responsibilities do they 'take home' with them? What does their downtime and/or social life look like?
6. Do any of your OCs take their occupational title/role particularly unseriously?
6a. How busy or slow is their place of work, usually? What's the worst case scenario for them neglecting their responsibilities?
7. Is there an in-universe story or character your OC strongly identified with at any point?
7a. If not, were they or their situation ever accurately compared to that story/character by someone else? If so, how did they feel about it?
8. If asked to make up a bedtime story, what would your OC come up with?
9. What would your OC consider a good dream?
10. What would your OC consider a nightmare?

Friends. Fiends. Fellow Dracula Dailiers and assorted undead.
I have some hypotheticals for you:
Tumblr media
(Explanatory ramble below the cut)
Short version: I would love to have some real Dracula merch.
Long version: I cannot stand the fact that there is no real Dracula merch*. The Vampyres is obviously all on me as far as getting things made, being my own skinny little indie book. But it’s genuinely driving me nuts that the only Dracula stuff around is from Universal, Coppola’s fanfiction, or Castlevania, and none of it features the actual protagonists of Dracula. There’s nothing for the book! Nothing for Jonathan, period, and Mina’s stuck trading spit with Gary Oldman on Hot Topic t-shirts. Hell, Dracula himself isn’t even Dracula! He’s always Count Suaveman Sexypire instead of the bat bastard I know and loathe. It’s miserable. So, I want to give this a try.
I’ve submitted a request to Makeship to see if they’ll collaborate with me for a campaign. It turns out it’s a bit of a ‘cool kids only’ deal, so there’s every chance they’ll pass on it, (Tumblr wasn’t even an option on the What Social Media Do You Hail From, Content Creator? bit of their questionnaire, so that’s telling.) But they’re supposed to get back to me with a Yes or No in ten business days, so we’ll see what happens. If they pick up my project, that would allow the plushie of choice to be crowdfunded without a major monetary blow to anyone and a guarantee of a good quality product. If it doesn’t reach its goal within the campaign period, everyone gets their money back.
If Makeship doesn’t work out, I’ll go sniffing around for other options. Maybe see if there are any good stationery makers to check out too. Feel free to send recommendations my way!
So yeah. That’s about it.
I just want to fill the void where a cuddleable little Harker and a strangleable little Dracula should be is that so much to ask?
*Not counting the cool stuff @re-dracula has in their shop. Thank you for the coziest coolest foul bauble of a t-shirt.

Hi, I'm quite new to writing and would like to start writing fanfiction as practice, but I find it hard to keep my writing in character. Do you have any recommendations for that? I've tried keeping like notes of how they act, but I'm unable to keep track of them.
Fan-Fiction: Keeping Canon Characters in Character
If you're struggling to keep a canon character in character, it's very likely you're just not familiar enough with the character to write them yet. This can be remedied easily by consuming the canon material--particularly when the character in question is heavily featured--and, if it's a TV, movie, or video game character, you can look for character tribute videos on YouTube, which often highlight the key elements of the character.
Other things you can do: make sure you know their backstory and understand how it influences who they are and how they behave, make sure you're familiar with their "voice," or in other words how their personality comes out in the things they say and think. Make sure you know their strengths and flaws and highlight them accordingly. Keep in mind what motivates the character and what life goals they're striving toward, as these often affect character behavior.
Some exercises you can do: find an "about me" questionnaire and fill it out as if you were the character. Try doing a little role playing and answer the questionnaire questions out loud as though you were being interviewed. Write a detailed analysis of the character as though you were analyzing them as someone potentially thinking of hiring them for an important job. Look at a favorite moment from canon involving the character, then write it in first-person POV from the character's POV. What do they think about the moment? What do they feel in the moment? What internal emotional cues do they feel? Alternatively, try writing a few diary entries from their perspective, detailing canon events, or expanding on moments that aren't canon but could be.
Happy writing!

⭐💖 Headcanon ask game 💖⭐
There are lots of deep questionnaires and ask games for OCs but I see fewer for people who primarily write fanfiction and develop canon characters into more fleshed out forms. So here's one for anyone who's interested.
Send a character and a number and I'll tell you a headcanon or perception that I have about this character's:
-1- name -2- family -3- childhood -4- voice -5- face/looks -6- hair -7- body -8- smell/personal scent -9- clothes and habits of dress -10- posture/physicality/movement -11- hobbies and interests -12- skills and abilities -13- ideals or philosophies -14- goals and intentions -15- pets or feelings about animals -16- home/place that they live -17- personal sense of style and decor -18- beloved or important items or property -19- favorite food and eating habits -20- love language/way they show affection -21- fears -22- favorite things -23- occupation/job -24- best memory -25- worst memory -26- interactions with their friends -27- interactions with their enemies -28- interactions with their lovers -29- quirks and personal habits -30- personality -31- way they are perceived by others -32- toxic traits -33- redeeming qualities -34- feelings about themself

I don't think many people realise how important self-expression is. Whether it is by doing art, writing, singing, etc. And I'm aiming this particularly at people who want to do those hobbies but are embarrassed that they won't be good enough (this was me).
I started writing around a year ago. I wouldn't say it's award-wining, but I would say it tremendously helped with pinpointing an exact perception of myself. As an aroace person (who most likely has OCD), I constantly, and I mean CONSTANTLY, second-guessed my identity. We all know the phrases, "but what if I'm straight and just need to try it.", "but what if I just have attachment issues.", "but what if I'm gay and in denial because of societal pressure.", "but I think that person is beautiful. Does that make me not aspect?", Etc. Etc. Etc.
This was pretty much a daily occurrence for me. That is before I started projecting my feelings onto the characters I write. I'm not kidding when I say that for the past few months, since I started writing about my personal experiences in fanfiction, I've had those self-doubts approximately ten times. Writing has helped me understand myself in a way no therapist or online page or aroace questionnaire ever could.
So, if you're feeling stuck, suffocated, and want to try your hand at an art to release those bottled up thoughts and emotions, please, PLEASE, do. It doesn't matter if you think it's not good enough. There's no such thing as bad art because art is subjective. There's no law that dictates what's good and what's not because fundamentally, the art you create is YOU.
