Your most popular fic
The Set Up by a laughably large margin. Although as I checked stats now to answer this question, I see that Bridgerton, Actually (my Love, Actually AU) is now second and it wasn’t before, quite recently actually! It seems it got a lot of holiday readership :)
Your personal fav
This is like asking me to pick a fav child! It’s difficult but I’d have to go with the professor au (take my hand, wreck my plans, that’s my man series). It came at a time where I was feeling uninspired and sort of adrift fandom-wise. Following the completion of Bridgerton, Actually, which was a behemoth and draining to write (though I loved it!), I was in the midst of taking some downtime to just… be. To consume without worrying about creating and to just reconsider. During that time, I read plenty of other things, including fic from other fandoms. I noticed tropes and things I simply hadn’t been exposed to ever/in a while, and found myself really drawn to the idea of an age gap with Kathony. Their fics feature them being near/the same age so often, in an effort to illustrate just how well matched they are. I wanted to do a sort of character study and love story when they had a significant age gap. I wanted to explore the ways Anthony might have been different if he was older, the fears of dying young (perhaps) abated but with no Kate to spur them forward. The Anthony I created in this AU was someone who had lived a bit of a life, hadn’t settled for a marriage for the sake of it, and had grown up and developed his own tastes in between teaching lectures and devoting himself to his family. I feel as though it can be popular to show Anthony devoid of taste or personality in terms of home decor or outside pursuits pre-Kate, and that simply wasn’t an option with him here. I really enjoyed developing this man with cultivated and exacting tastes. I’m getting rambly here so I’ll stop, because I could talk about this oneshot for a while. The point being—this oneshot marked a time of sort of creative freedom for me. When I started writing it, it felt nearly insane. I just wrote and wrote with no real reader expectation because I was writing a daddy kink in a fandom that really didn’t seem to have one. I was writing and entirely possessed by the story and characters and premise itself. I wrote that and nothing else for a while. I wrote it across continents and flights and subways and in my room, alone. I would text Kara about it nonstop and I’d post excerpts and just wrote it and didn’t think about it… and then it came time to post. I genuinely didn’t know how it would be received. And I need to add that it is far from the most popular Kathony fic ever, and it’s not even my most popular Kathony fic ever, but the response was nonetheless astounding. I genuinely couldn’t have expected the way it would be received and I’m so grateful for anyone who spent time with those words and maybe found themselves inspired to push boundaries in their own fic and writing.
Your fav scene
I genuinely can’t pick one. I think I’ve written too much hahaha. I’ll state a few that come to mind now;
In the Texas!Anthony AU I loved writing Anthony meeting Kate’s extended family. I loved giving her an extended family, filled with doting grandparents, noisy cousins, and all the fun hallmarks of Indian American kid life.
The papercut scene in the Prof AU.
Nearly the entirety of the spanking oneshot follow-up to the prof au
And also the Lover inspired fic in the prof au lol
I loved the Balmoral chapter of The Set Up, especially the beginning vignette of three; Charlie/Harry, Hugo/Willie, Kate/ghosts/legacy/history. The moment she lights incense and says a prayer in this really storied, old, English castle is unbelievably significant, I think, in ways that will come to play in the fic now.
So much of the roommates fic is a real love letter to NYC. I did a reread recently and was almost surprised by it myself? I think I’ve had enough time away to be surprised by it and I was. I know those places, I feel those places. I hope the sense of self comes across as significantly for the reader as it does to me.
Writing the aftermath of the shooting scene in The West Wing AU and Kate winning the election as well were really poignant. I cried writing them and I cry rereading them. They’re almost a brilliantly rebellious ode to hope in the face of the perceived hopelessness of US politics. Regardless of whether or not a president like Kate Sharma plausible, I center my politics and general life philosophies around hope. That fic felt like hope and belief in a better world.
A fic or scene that challenged you
Plenty! The Balmoral chapter challenged me a lot until I saw Angels in America and something clicked. I actually can’t think of more right now in a really specific way but I will say anytime I felt challenged I either ignored it or wrote through it. Writing through it was always the answer and right way to tackle it.
A line of writing you’re proud of
There’s definitely a lot I’m a proud of but I am currently traveling and CBA to trawl through over 500k words to find the line I’m proud of. There’s a LOT of prose I’m really proud of though. The recent chapter of Babel where I describe Simon’s party is some of my best work, I think. Sweet Like Honey (stepfather au) has some prose I’m exceptionally proud of. As does the Obsession AU. Some descriptions of Texas in the Texas!Anthony AU are gorgeous. If you can think of anything that stood out to you, let me know.
A comment that touched you
I genuinely treasure every single comment I’ve received and I’m currently working through responding to many (if you get a months late response,,, I’m sorry). I will take this time to impress upon anyone who might be reading that leaving comments can be so encouraging and I do love hearing from readers. Fic really does feel like I’m writing directly for you guys. And so it’s great to get feedback or excited squealing because it makes it less lonely and helps me feel like I’m a part of it with you guys. I love when friends comment, I love when people who I only know through excited screeching on ao3 comment, I really love it all.
Recently, a longtime reader left a comment on my recent update of The Set Up just to thank me for writing this year and it was so moving and so lovely I teared up. It was unbelievably kind and thoughtful. That really snuck in at the end of the year for one that just took the cake for me.
Something that inspired your writing
Everything. Angels in America. Echoing Jo by saying Prince Harry’s memoir Spare. A lot of Haladriel and Darklina works and writers. Bruce Springsteen. Lysistrata. Babel by R.F. Kuang. Little Rabbit by Alyssa Songsiridej. Babylon the film. Singing in the Rain. The West Wing lol. Dachshunds (English cream) and Greyhounds. The British royals. Kafka. Religious trauma. Guts by Olivia Rodrigo (specifically bad idea, right?). Wet Dream and Chaise Lounge by Wet Leg. The people who broke my heart and the people who helped me stitch it back up. My fellow writers and friends, always.
Your proudest accomplishment
Getting over a bad depressive episode and writing slump and purposefully refocusing my attentions to: myself, why I felt compelled to write, and the people who did love me and read my writing and made that clear, as opposed to the people who didn’t.
Do you have any writing goals for next year?
To finish The Set Up. To finish some Perfect Park drabbles and revisit the west wing au for some good election year distraction. And, maybe, to take a little break as I work on original things. I am not leaving, don’t worry. I have set some professional and personal goals for myself that require more of my emotional and intellectual time/space/energy and I need to refocus some efforts there. But I’m not done and I will be back. I’m tentatively planning something quite exciting fic-wise. If it comes to fruition, I’ll tell you all in time.
Tagging @grantairesbottle @amalinwrites who is never on tumblr but I’ll annoy her to do it, @bad-surprise @inkbugfic @ladykettlechips and Rama whose tumblr @ I always forget to do this lol

2023 Fic Year in Review
I wasn't tagged in this, but I saw it floating around and wanted to preserve it for myself since I accomplished a lot this past year ❤️
List of Fics Completed this Year
Forever's In Your Grasp
Green With Envy
Custody
Little Shop of Flowers
Drive
No Regrets
Obliviously Devoted
Catalyst of Change
Number of Words Written
120,199
Your Most Popular Fic
Popular seems like such an arbitrary word, but I'll go simply based on ao3 kudos and say Obliviously Devoted.
Your Personal Fave
Catalyst of Change
You Fav Scene
Probably the scene in Catalyst of Change where Henry plays the piano for Alex.
A Fic or Scene that Challenged You
Continuing Heartschool after the MCs have gotten together has been really challenging. Even though the story isn't finished, it often feels like the steam is gone, so keeping up my motivation has been difficult.
A Line of Writing You’re Proud Of
Alex continues to gape at him, as Henry holds out his stolen agency on a silver platter. It's mangled and barbed and needs to be melted down and reforged, but it's his. It's theirs to take.
A Comment that Touched You
All comments mean so much to me, so I couldn't single one out, but someone did describe a fic I wrote as like drinking tea on a rainy day, and I honestly couldn't ask for more than that.
Something that Inspired Your Writing
A lot (and I do mean A LOT) of fanfic reading
Your proudest accomplishment (that one scene; finally finishing that one fic; posting your first fic; etc):
Writing a 17k word one-shot that wound up being one of my favorite pieces I've ever written
Do You Have Any Writing Goals for Next Year?
Finishing Heartschool would be a huge one! But honestly, I just want to keep creating.
Thank you so, so much to all the readers that have come along with me in 2023!

22 answers for a fanfic 2022
1. fandoms you wrote for this year
Star Trek: Discovery
Star Trek: Lower Decks
Star Trek: Picard
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Star Trek: The Original Series
Star Trek: Voyager
The Orville
2. favorite fic you wrote this year
I don’t know.
3. favorite fic you read this year
I have so many talented friends who wrote absolutely fantastic fics this year. But the fic I haven’t been able to get out of my mind for all the right reasons is Illusory Reality, written by sixbeforelunch (someone I do not know). The fic is, to me, a canon-consistent fix-it for “The Menagerie,” an episode I have strongly disliked since I was a little girl. Therefore, the story isn’t Pikeuna, it’s Pikeone, and it helps me feel at least somewhat better about an episode that has always upset me.
4. favorite opening line/scene you wrote this year
That would be the prologue to Chrysalis, an AU in which Captain Batel’s attempted arrest of Una Chin-Riley results in Chris and Una both becoming fugitives from the law.
5. favorite ending line/scene you wrote this year
That would be the epilogue to Chrysalis.
6. a trope you wrote this year
I wrote huddling for warmth in Boots That Touch at the Toes, a Pikeuna one-shot set just before Chris takes command of Discovery, and I wrote amnesia in The Haze, also a Pikeuna one-shot, in which Una’s amnesia leads both her and Chris to important realizations.
7. pairings you wrote this year
Looking only at main pairings, not sub-pairings, in order of posting from oldest to newest, I wrote:
Elnor/Hugh | Third of Five (Star Trek: Picard) (x) (x) (x)
Kirsten Clancy/Katrina Cornwell (Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Discovery) (x)
Laira Rillak/Charles Vance (Star Trek: Discovery) (x)
Agnes Jurati/Borg Queen (Star Trek: Picard) (x)
Laris/Jean-Luc Picard (Star Trek: Picard) (x) (x)
Kathryn Janeway/Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Voyager) (x)
Guinan & Cristóbal Rios (Star Trek: Picard) (x)
Raffi Musiker/Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Picard) (x) (x)
Renèe Picard & Tallinn (Star Trek: Picard) (x)
Number One | Una Chin-Riley/Christopher Pike (mostly Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, some Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: The Original Series, influences from Short Treks) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x)
Number One | Una Chin-Riley/Jack Ransom (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks) (x)
Kelly Grayson/Ed Mercer (The Orville) (x)
Kathryn Janeway & Tom Paris (Star Trek: Voyager) (x)
Churrolivia/Jack Ransom (Star Trek: Lower Decks) (x)
Number One | Una Chin-Riley/Seven of Nine (a half-dozen Star Treks, but mostly Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Picard) (x)
Tom Paris/B’Elanna Torres (Star Trek: Voyager) (x)
plus untagged ficlets that range from Kathryn Janeway/Agnes Jurati (x) to Reginald Barclay & Kathryn Janeway (x) to Kathryn Janeway/Coffee (x) and much, much more (including ones that actually don’t involve Janeway 🙈).
8. a fic regret from this year
Probably still not fixing a lousy fic from years ago. But this year I actually started a doc for the follow-up fix-it that I may never write, so progress?
9. a song that helped you write
I usually have a playlist for any long fic, as well as playlists for ships I write often. But to choose just one song, Beyoncè’s “Love on Top” was “the song” for Chris and Una in The Light Before Dawn.
youtube
10. total number of fics you posted
27
11. total number of words you posted
103,150
12. most popular fic written this year
Not counting holdovers from last year (such as Voyager Writing Game Prompts), my most popular 2022 fic by hits is Lay Down Our Arms, a choose-your-own ending Kathryn Janeway/Seven of Nine story in which Raffi Musiker is an option for one of the happy endings. My most popular 2022 fic by kudos, bookmarks, and comment threads is The Light Before Dawn (Una Chin-Riley/Christopher Pike), which means a lot to me because that fic definitely owns a place in my heart. My most popular 2022 fic by subscriptions is Chrysalis (Una Chin-Riley/Christopher Pike), which makes sense because it also has the most chapters of anything I wrote this year.
13. least popular fic written this year
That’s a little harder to parse (no easy stats graph for lack of popularity), but I think it’s The Song of the Universe is a Heartbeat, a one-shot about Tallinn’s platonic-familial love for both Reneè Picard and Jean-Luc Picard. That’s okay. I didn’t think that one would be popular, but I find Tallinn fascinating and wanted to get into her head a bit.
14. longest completed fic you posted this year
That would be Chrysalis (Una Chin Riley/Christopher Pike) at 20,924 words.
15. shortest completed fic you posted this year
As a stand-alone story, Check, Check, Check (Agnes Jurati/Borg Queen) is the shortest at 172 words. But that’s free verse, not prose, so I’m not sure if it counts. The shortest prose story is Choose to Love (Elnor/Hugh | Third of Five) at 195 words.
16. favorite character to write about this year
Una Chin-Riley. I wrote her with canon consistency. I wrote her in multiple alternative universes (one of which is canon). I wrote her in prison, on the run, diligently doing her duty, hosting planetarium shows in New York City, helping with recipes, and so much more. I wrote her in love (in different stories, not at the same time) with Christopher Pike, with Jack Ransom, and with Seven of Nine. Blorbo doesn’t even begin to cover it.
17. a fic you didn’t expect to write
All of them.
18. most memorable comment/review
Look, if you write me a nice comment, I love you. That’s how it goes. But a few excerpts to share here:
“It takes a special kind of writing to turn a single episode bizarre joke into a sincere, emotional story.” (for the Churrolivia/Jack Ransom fic Gotta Admit, It’s Pretty Sweet).
“GOD this is just... it's... like can we talk about the figurative language for a second, how perfect Una's internal monologue is?” (for the Una Chin-Riley/Christopher Pike fic The Haze — for which I had worked really, really hard on the figurative language of Una’s internal monologue, so it felt so damn good to have that called out in a positive way).
“Every single time you manage to pack so much emotion into your work. I hope that you get told how talented you are each and every day, because you certainly blow me away with your writing every time I read something you’ve written.” (for the Una Chin-Riley/Christopher Pike fic Kiss Me in the Rain, and I most certainly am not told I’m talented each and every day, so this gestalt comment made me cry very, very grateful tears).
Also, every word of the second comment on The Melody of You (and Me) (Una Chin-Riley/Seven of Nine). Just … every gorgeous word.
As you can tell, comments mean a lot to me and I appreciate them so, so much. (Also, a bookmark for The Light Before Dawn has the reader-written tag “comfort in words” and that makes me puddle up with happiness because that cozy sentiment is exactly what I was going for.)
19. trends you noticed in your writing this year
I have multiple instances of a man being quiet so a woman can gather her thoughts. (Tom Paris for Kathryn Janeway in Synchronous Orbit, and Christopher Pike for Una-Chin Riley in The Haze). So that’s … interesting.
I also wrote various possibilities for Seven of Nine soon after Voyager returned to the Alpha Quadrant:
Alight, a double drabble that focuses on Seven’s thoughts about her biosuits;
Lay Down Our Arms, a choose-your-own ending multi-chap that looks at Seven’s relationship with Janeway as well as her friendship with Hugh;
And When We Awaken, Eyes Open to Possibility, We Find Our Voice in the Night, a Hugh and Seven friendship ficlet that looks to her need (or not) to regenerate; and
The Melody of You (and Me), a not-technically-an-AU one-shot in which Seven was treated better by Starfleet but ended up being pulled into another universe in which she is in love with Una Chin-Riley (of course).
20. fics you wanted to write but didn’t
I don’t know.
21. something you want to write next year
I don’t know.
22. an idea from one of your fics that you want people to think about
Chrysalis is about metamorphosis (obviously) with Una and Chris both changing over the three days they’re in the shuttle (changing mentally — this is not at all a Threshold situation). But it’s also a story about taking a step back (unintentionally in their case) and noticing external toxicity. Naomi Osaka, Simone Biles — anyone and everyone who has walked away from a mentally or physically dangerous situation (and, in the story, Chris and Una ran away from both) — these people were in my head as I wrote. It can take phenomenal courage to save the drowning self, and I wanted to depict our heroes doing exactly that. Not easily. Not without doubts, sometimes, or challenges. But they do it, helping each other along the way, and I wanted that positive energy in the world.
———
If anyone has questions on any of that, please ask. Also, if you write, I’d love to read your fanfic 2022 answers!

Fanfic Year in Review - 2022
This year was a tough one for writing. Art is much easier - thus the heaps of fanart I was able to create. Writing, though, demands so much more mental energy and with everything going on in my personal life, I often had too little in the tank to use in stories - not that the DESIRE to do so wasn't high!
So, all that aside, here is what I accomplished.
Completed Fanfic:
The Holiday is Over Rated T (Sherlock) 1,231 words The moment the heavy door was wrenched open a bucket of ice water was thrown inside – drenching him and pulling a gasp from his chest. He tried to scramble away but Miroslav simply grabbed him by the hair and his upper arm and dragged him from the cell. Once outside, in the narrow hallway, two other soldiers clamped the shackles on his wrists and he was mostly dragged onward towards the room that stank of his blood.
The Home Visit Rated G (Doctor Strange) 6,450 words His exhale carried visibly through the air – the chill setting off a shiver and making him miss his robes – the cloak in particular. This wasn't the sort of adventure where a cloak was needed, however, beyond warmth of course. In fact the only arcane item he'd brought with was his sling ring. He could be anywhere in the world in seconds, if needed. So why was he walking? Certainly Wong had been the small voice in his head asking the question for the last five minutes. But, truthfully, he needed this time. He wasn't certain what sort of welcome he'd find, at the end of his walk, and if he took enough time, there was always a chance he'd be summoned back to the Sanctum well before he arrived.
He wasn't sure if that wouldn't be better, overall...
Updated WIPs:
Sed Diabolus Rated T (Avengers) 38,282 words so far The great epic has begun. They say history is recorded by the victors. Well history, then, has yet to be written. Heroes have fallen and the world is a ruin of chaos and self-destruction. The time of the apocalypse has come. Who, then, will stand and face the Devil?
Thanos left an indelible mark. What was undone was far from erased and the world is the poorer for the losses he brought to bear. But he is not the only being of power looking to claim Earth as its throne. The enemy from the heavens was defeated. But it is the enemy from the darkest and deepest places who may prove to be the final death knell for the universe.
And yet... hope comes...
Like the ringing strike of a hammer against iron...
WIPs with In-Progress Chapters (chapters not yet completed):
The Fire in Which We Burn - Chapter 3 1,119 words so far Excerpt:
Anthea squeezed her arm before retrieving her phone and giving Ali another pat.
After she was out the door, Molly turned back toward the tea kettle and poured a cup for Sherlock as well as an additional one for herself. She tucked the bag, with its remaining pastries, under one arm and made her careful way to the couch. Sherlock stood and met her halfway – taking both cups until she could settle on the cushion.
Once sat, however, she had no idea what to do next. Though she had anticipated Sherlock being the first to speak there was only silence on his side of the couch. Molly, rather, watched the ripples settle in her cup. She didn't actually want the tea – having taken it out of habit more than anything else. She still held the bag of pastries so she set that on the coffee table. Well that was done. And now to ponder the next inconsequential move. Perhaps tapping a finger on the rim of her cup.
It was beginning to look as though she'd have to make the first move – and didn't that just define every aspect of their nonexistent relationship. She breathed in and turned to the side.
Sherlock was staring at his feet – his own cup just as ignored in his hands as her own. His trembling hands. Small spatters of tea had pebbled on his fingers but he'd made no move to wipe them away. Quickly Molly set aside her cup before, carefully, reaching to extract the mug from Sherlock's hold.
Once his hands were empty Molly paused for only a moment; then slid her hand over the arch of his fingers and taking hold of one shaking hand.
Sherlock's breath stuttered but he made no other move – no other sound.
So Molly held his hand, and Ali dozed between them, and time counted down – tick by tick.
Fic Ideas Developed (Unposted):
Faun Sherlock Story 2: 2,084 words so far Excerpt:
Time blurred into table settings, moving heaps of food from one resting spot to another to still another; and throughout it all Sherlock had yet to find a moment to steal away and change form – a move that would necessitate stripping out of his human clothes. And though younglings did not typically wear clothing in faun form until their sixteenth year, Sherlock still didn't want to strip down in the middle of the dining hall.
Finally, though, he was able to escape under the, actually true, excuse of needing the toilet.
Choosing the loo near the servant's quarters, and thus the least likely to be in regular use, Sherlock took care of business before stripping down and carefully folding his clothing (he didn't want to face Mummy's wrath if he wrinkled his suit).
Tail flicking in happiness, he bundled his clothing and darted back out into the hallway. A large wardrobe, near the front entrance, served for stowing his clothes and shoes. Around him, various relations chatted and sampled the nibbles set out on a long board in the dining hall. Sherlock snatched a handful of acorn biscuits before making for the double doors leading back outside. Much as he wanted to indulge in some justified scowling at the required punishment, he couldn't manage to erase the spark of glee at finally being able to set his hooves in the soft green lawn.
Munching the sweet treat, he skirted the edge of the green whilst keeping a wary eye out for Mummy. Which, of course, meant that he was startled enough to drop his last biscuit when a firm hand clamped on his shoulder.
“Mycroft! Let go!”
“And who said you could shift form?”
Squirming until he could wrench free, Sherlock fought against baring his teeth. He really would catch it were he to show such uncouth aggression – and towards a family member, no less.
“Shut up! Mummy told me it was okay! She hadn't, as such, but she also hadn't unequivocally required he remain in human form; which may well have been a ringing endorsement.
Mycroft, however, had already turned his attention to the other guests while Sherlock retrieved his dropped biscuit – frowning a moment before dusting off the bit of dirt and stuffing it in his mouth. He noted, and ignored, the disapproving glance from his brother.
On the far side of the lawn, more guests were emerging from the house – primarily elders but a handful of younglings darted out to play.
“Ah, some friends for you to play with.”
Sherlock curled a lip – all too aware that Mycroft was anything but sincere.
“I'd rather lick a lead pipe.”
AU John and Mary Divorce (rather than her dying): Excerpt:
John had his arms crossed - hands cupping his elbows with his feet spaced apart. Even he could recognize the defensiveness in his posture. Across from him, Mary was pulling the strap of the changing bag over her shoulder. Still in her cot, Rosie was playing with her plush bee - waving it above her head and chortling in her own language. John rubbed at the tip of his nose.
“Tell me I’m not going to wake up tomorrow to find that you’ve disappeared with my daughter to who knows where.”
Mary stopped her activity and looked up - eyebrows lifted and a near smile on her face before taking in John’s expression. Then she tipped her head in that way that sent a tiny dig of loss through John’s heart all over again.
“I would never do that to you. And I would never do that to our daughter.” She approached until she could place both of her hands on John’s biceps. “Besides do you truly believe there’s anywhere I could go where Sherlock Holmes couldn’t find me.”
John blinked as he lifted his face - looking beyond her shoulder at Rosie playing blissfully with her toys. Finally he dropped his gaze back down - eyes unblinking on Mary’s face.
“If you took my child away from me, Mary, there would be nowhere you could go that I wouldn’t find you.”
Tony Stark VS Wilson Fisk: Excerpt:
Across from him, Fisk continued speaking. “I have found that I have an over-abundance of pressure on me as I attempt to rebuild what was lost during my incarceration. Aside from the judgement of the good people of this city I also have faced an ongoing assault from a number of vigilantes. This city, for all of its potential, has the unfortunate side effect of breeding these... vermin... faster than the rats that inhabit the sewers. As it is they are beneath the notice of those who claim to protect the people of this city.” His hands stilled – lying one on top of the other as Tony silently turned to the next page. “Too busy protecting the rest of the world, perhaps.”
Tony made himself turn to the next page; his eyes blinking rapidly.
“Of course it isn't in my nature to harm innocents. I find it distasteful to involve women and children in such matters. And, yet, I find that it is, in fact, a child at the center of my current dilemma. Of greater irony is that this child has both power and connections that would, under normal circumstances, place him outside the reach of those who would wish him harm.”
The forth page was a photo – clipped from a newspaper and a duplicate to the framed image that sat on the worktable in Tony's lab. In the grainy image he stood, one arm slung around a young man's shoulders, as the kid received his certification for completing the “Stark Internship”. Tony licked his tongue across his teeth before closing the file once more.
Fisk let out a soft hum. “As it is, prison has a way of creating strange bedfellows. I met someone – a man you may know. Adrian Toomes. After some persuasion he had something very interesting to share with me. Something that, I can only imagine, you would wish to keep out of the hands of certain individuals.”
Tony wanted to clench his hands – his fingertips twitching before he pushed them flat against the wood beneath them. “Just to clarify you're threatening my intern?”
Fisk leaned forward; hands folding tight before him on the table. “I was hoping we wouldn't have to play any games but given your refusal to read the rest of the documents Mr. Wesley provided, I will summarize them for you.” Here he stood; walking to the open doors facing the patio. “I know who Peter Parker is. I know about his aunt. I know the names of his friends, where he goes to school, and where he buys his favorite sandwich every afternoon.” He rested his hands on the railing; squinting in the sunlight. “If he continues to disrupt my affairs in Hell's Kitchen, the consequences could be... unpleasant.” He glanced back at Tony; his face serene. “You realize I'm asking for very little. Keep your new pet leashed and allow me to conduct my business in peace. The child will never have to know my name. Other than what he may learn from news reports; of course.” Tugging his cuffs, Fisk turned to more fully face into the room. “I never wanted to involve you. This is the sort of attention I have spent a fortune to avoid. As it is I find myself in a position where reticence could cost me even more.”
Pushing to his feet, Tony could no longer stop his hands from fisting at his sides – though he managed to control the tremor as he joined Fisk. Side by side, the other man practically loomed over him.
“So you aren't just threatening a kid – you're threatening everyone he cares about. Little bit budget TV villain but you do you I guess.” Pulling off his tinted glasses, he stared up at the other man. “The thing is this little weekly drama you're playing?” he waggled his fingers back and forth, “way above your pay grade. Maybe stick to collecting on gambling debts and playing whack-a-mole with the other lowlifes in your contacts list.”
The smallest of smiles twitched at the corner of Fisk's lips. “I know you're someone who prefers visual aids,” his voice became guttural – losing the soft quality, “perhaps a demonstration would help to convince you.”
A glance to the side, the barest nod to Wesley, and the other man typed into his phone.
There was a moment – silence this far above the city.
And then an apartment complex, three blocks away, exploded into flame.

Fanfiction Year in Review 2022
I fill this out every year. It’s become a bit of a tradition for me. Allows me to reflect on everything that I’ve written and kinda think about where I want to go next. And I like it better from the ask games because I don’t have to wait for asks to come in. ^_^
1 List of fics completed this year in the order they were finished:
Don’t You Know People Care? (Adrino oneshot)
When You Love Someone (Love Square oneshot Reveal)
Rite of Passage (Love Square multichapter)
Meddlesome Friends (Love Square + Meddling Nino oneshot)
I Needed You and You Weren’t There (Love Square onshot)
Restorative Justice (Core Five - Chloé POV - multichapter -features love square and friendship fairly prominently)
2 Number of words written:
Written: 99,297
Published: 64,582
This number irritates me. It’s SO CLOSE to 100k and I just didn’t have time in the last few days to throw myself over the edge. And there’s a one shot that I think only needs about an hour of focused work. But I guess that’ll have to be a 2023 fic! Haha! BUT it’s also way higher than I thought it would be even if it’s less than half I what I wrote last year (and I published about a third of what I what I published last year). And that comparison is probably why it felt like I wasn’t writing much this year. But my 2019 numbers were almost exactly the same and I was SO EXCITED about how much I wrote that year. Which just goes to show comparison is bad! And when it comes to comparing myself to others I think I’ve internalized that years ago, but apparently I shouldn’t compare myself to myself either. Because I KNOW why I wasn’t able to write as much this year, and yet, I still wrote! And that’s amazing!!
Those published numbers include four one shots, two multi chapters. And four multi chapter WIPs saw at least one update.
3 Your most popular fic:
Restorative Justice, which is bizarre. I started writing this one closer to the fandom peak three years ago. And at the time, this fic was my LEAST popular. Chapter 4 took me almost a year to get out. And then Chapter 5 did take more than a year, but when I posted chapter five I got a lot more attention here than on anything else I’ve written this year. It wasn’t a whole lot more than Ch 3 got when it was posted though.
4 Your personal fav:
It’s Still Right Behind You and I imagine it will keep being this one until I finish it. My goal was to finish it this year, but that didn’t even come close to happening. Last year, I managed to update this one pretty consistently each month. If I had maintained that pace THIS year, it would have been almost complete I think, but I don’t think I would have made it. It has about 14-16 updates left. So another year and some change? *crossing my fingers* But Restorative Justice is a close second because it is also deeply personal - just from a different aspect of my life, and I do have a few unpublished WIPs that I’m also super in love with that I hope I will get to share before too much time has passed.
5 Your fav scene:
It’s so hard to pick a favorite!!
Okay, I loved the way Chapter four of Yin and Yang extended the same scene at the end of chapter three. The way Marinette’s and Adrien’s individual revelations dovetailed together at that moment was just so neat!
I’m also really really really proud of the When You Love Someone reveal oneshot (which wasn’t ACTUALLY a oneshot - this scene is from Right Behind You chapters 6 and 9). This oneshot was essentially a love square break up chapter, but what I love about it is how much love there is in it from beginning to end. How much they care for each other shines through every part of it. I made myself cry multiple times writing this scene, and I can sometimes still cry when I reread it.
6 A fic or scene that challenged you:
It’s all challenging right now, but let’s go with Restorative Justice. As mentioned already, it took me more than a year to update chapter five of this fic, but we did it 50 words at a time!
7 A line of writing you’re proud of:
“I’m right here” - from chapter 3 of Rite of Passage. Here it is with a tiny bit of context:
“But that’s not the hard part.”
“What’s the hard part?”
“He was my best friend, and I miss him so much.” Her voice broke on the last word and her face crumpled into wracking sobs.
Adrien or not, he instantly pulled her into his shoulder, and held her while she cried herself out. He didn’t say anything. He knew that if he said anything at all, he’d tell her everything.
And he wasn’t sure how bad that would be. He couldn’t talk to Fu or even to Plagg for all that the kwami was six inches away as evidenced by the fact that the wedge of cheese had disappeared even though he had never laid eyes on the black kwami.
“I just wish I knew what happened to him,” she said, her voice cracking.
The pain in her voice broke him.
“I’m right here,” he said softly, placing a kiss on the side of her head.
This scene also has fanart! - by @botherkupo (I’ve been reading that as brother kupo forever... oops!)
8 A comment that touched you:
Look, I can never answer this question. There are too many. There are my regulars who have literally taken care of me this year as I struggled with moderate depression and then repeated illness (myself and my children). And there are the comments that let me know that something I wrote has an impact on them and that’s really neat.
An example from Rosalind2013 this past week on Restorative Justice:
This is one of my favorite stories now! Thank you so much for sharing!
I feel like I learned a lot. And I really enjoyed Chloe’s characterization here!
Really and truly, I think it’s often hard for us (or at least me) to think of “mean” people as being victims too. The things I learned are things that are going to alter how I interact with people going forward, and I really appreciate you taking the time to explain everything in your notes!
Like woah!! I’m floored and squealing!
9 Something that inspired your writing:
Honestly? Spite. Haha! I keep encountering takes or reading things that irritate me and that often inspires me to write a fic that does it the way I would want it to be in the world to counter that perspective. But most of the spite writing I’ve done this year has yet to come out. So hopefully, ya’ll get to benefit from that in 2023! :)
10 Your proudest accomplishment (that one scene; finally finishing that one fic; posting your first fic; etc):
Honestly, the fact that I wrote anything is kinda amazing. 2020 and 2021 were really good writing years for me (like insanely good), and it’s been frustrating to not be able to maintain that flow. I spent the first half of 2022 in a barely functional level of depression and the second half taking care of sick children. People keep telling me that I don’t have to feel pressured to write - that we all need to take breaks, and I don’t disagree. But writing for me has always been one of my biggest coping tools, and this year, it felt like I couldn’t rely on it and it always seemed like a bad sign to me when I wanted to write and had time, but couldn’t do it mentally or emotionally. Every time I think I’m back in my writing groove, my life explodes again. So here’s me wishing and hoping that things actually stay calm for like the whole next 12 months! (It’s likely a pipe dream, but one can hope).
11 Do you have any writing goals for the next year?
I want to start making progress on Right Behind You again. I had a setback where I wrote a chapter and found it narratively redundant and scrapped the whole thing which was discouraging and made it hard to start again. And I really want to update each of my current unfinished WIPs at least once (hopefully more than once!), and get out some of these unpublished love square WIPs that I’ve been sitting on. (And maybe an Adrino one as well!!) Basically, I want to do all the writing! Haha!
But my main goal is really just to find my writing groove again to be able to use writing as a more reliable mental health support and creative outlet. Wish me luck!!
Happy New Year Everyone!!

9, 18 please
Oops sorry anon I didn't get a notification for this!
9. Best new fandom discovery of the year
This is tricky because I haven't really joined any fandoms but I did discover the delight that is A League of Their Own through tumblr and also @batnbreakfast (and someone else but I can't remember who) alerted me to Hope Street which is insane and infuriating but I love to get angry at it haha
18. Fandom that you never expected to get into
I think it's safe to say that I did not think that 2022 would see a fricking berena engagement and that I would still be getting new fanfic content for them haha

To those of you wondering (aka no one), I finished both The Vampire Armand and Merrick and I have a lot of thoughts and feels. I'm skipping Blood and Gold for now to go directly to Blackwood Farm (I'll read B&G later), but first I'm going to read something else, just to take a break.
TVA thoughts: man, Armand is messed up. And extremely compelling. But so messed up. As always, the theme of faith crisis, which seriously reaches new heights with these bitchy vampires, is not something I can fully immerse myself in, but it was fascinating to see his numerous metamorphosis. I liked how he bridges Western and Eastern Christianisme, especially through art. Now I'm thinking that if Rolin Jones makes him originally Muslim in the show, that could expand even more the conversation on how faith, and especially Abrahamic faith, has been in conversation for thousands of years and could be such a rich, diverse and spiritual, intellectual and artistic theme. I can already imagine some fascinating discussions comparing (not in a superior way but in a complementary way) coming from Muslim faith to Roman Catholic faith, the way book!Armand talks about the richness of his life in Kiev Rus despite the poverty and ascetism, and the richness of his life in Venecia despite the luxury and abundance.
As for Benamin and Sybille... I don't have much thoughts about them. Sybille is one of those female characters AR seemingly favors, not so much human as a nymph or a dryad, "perfectly splendid". And Benji is a caricature of an Arab child. Nuance? 401 not found.
Merrick thoughts: David for the love if everything, shut. The. Fuck. Up. Holy moly. I like David, I do, but damn the entire recollection of his history with Merrick was looooooong. I'm here to see Louis haunted by Claudia and haunting Lestat's coma, not how hard you're pining for the kid you practically raised! Also. ALSO. You're just going to leave that whole thing with the Olmec or possibly another more ancient Mesoamerican civilisation without ever giving us more? That was the most interesting part of it all! The vodoo history, the connection between Louisiana and Caribbean vodoo and old Native South-American religions! More about this, less about Merrick's perfect breasts, I am begging you. (It is at this point that the reader of this post realises OP is 100% definitely ace and more interested in books and witchcraft than breasts and whether a 70yo man can still get it up - also, hey, Anne Rice's vampires are practically asexual and their lust and pleasure is mostly derivated from blood, with some notable exceptions like Armand and Marius, and a love relationship between two vampires is then based on romantic love and blood sharing, so can I hear a hell yeah for some ace representation or are we still conflating eroticism with sex)
Another thing I kept thinking about throughout the book is how Louis is perceived by his fellow vampires. Since basically the second book, since we've lost his own POV, everybody who's ever said anything about him (so Lestat, Armand and David) have insisted on two points: how very weak and meek Louis is, and also how irresistible, beautiful and charming. Granted, I've known Louis first through his portrayal on the show (hi Jacob you're so fiiiiiiine), and then through his own narration in the first book, but I've never had the impression that he was weak. Beautiful and seductive, yes. Weak? I see a human man going through tragedies and still enduring, going through vampiric transformation and then suffering for decades the loss of his humanity, struggling with reconciliating both sides of himself, but mostly I see a vampire who rebuilt himself after losing everything without sacrificing his sense of self. I see Louis as very strong actually (up to the point where resilience breaks, because resilience cannot be sustained on a long term, but that's another debate). He knows who he is, and don't you know how hard that is? He doesn't cling to faith or pride. He knows he's doomed, he knows he's monstrous, he knows there's nothing he can do to change that, and instead of railing against his fate, he goes on about his undead life. He gets his books and he reads them, he surrounds himself with literature and what little comforts he thinks in his shattered self-esteem he deserves (his ragged sweaters and soft trousers); let's not lie to ourselves tho, Louis doesn't like himself, or more exactly he doesn't care about his corporeal body - what matters to him is his mind, and once again, this author is extremely ace and also very aro and very nonbinary, so Louis to me is very much ace and agender coded, though really not aro, because his love for Lestat (and sometimes his fondness, shall we say, for Armand) is the only thing that can rouse him up from his literary slumber.
...
Oh, man, I have a lot to say about Louis, for how little he appears in the books so far. Still have BF, BC and the PL trilogy to devour. So I guess you can say, for as much as Lestat is occupying my entire brain, very much like him, my favorite is Louis? Yeah, that tracks. Melancholy, quiet, dark-haired green-eyed monster with more humanity than humans, preferring his solitude and the company of books to anyone else, hopelessly and helplessly devoted to one person, expert in brooding and grieving, literature specialist, not very attached to his physical self. Yeah. I'm not surprised.
#rapha talks#rapha reads#anne rice#the vampire chronicles#the vampire armand#merrick#vc books#armand de romanus#david talbot#louis de pointe du lac#lestat de lioncourt#books#literature#book review#wow that got long#wasn't expecting to write that much i just wanted to write a couple of lines about each book so i could move on to the next#but apparently i have a lot to say about louis in particular#i mean - vampires have been making me extremely verbose since i was 12#so no wonder *the* vampire books of the last half-century are making me go insane#anyway - i'm going to read a couple of fanfics i've noticed maybe finish watching the bear s3 clear my mind a bit#and then i'll dive right back in with blackwood farm#by the way i totally encourage fic recs and also discussions of my thoughts (how flawed and incomplete my perceptions of these characters?)#(obviously over 40 years of existence and adoration of these books so much has been said and written and i would love to discuss it with#people who have read and studied and loved these books in much more depth than i)

My Year in Review
I have not written a lot this year. 2 fics and 15 ficlets. I started with plotting and writing a real casefic last December and managed about 5 chapters. Then there was a very long general writing hiatus starting June 2023 due to - let's say - challenging IRL events that ended only in October. October was great with the whumptober prompts and I completed the challenge for the second time.
I restarted writing on the casefic in November highly motivated and because I broke my ankle and have been on sick-leave since then there was a lot of writing time. I finished chapter 12 today, 43k words in and there will be "only" two more chapters to write. Depending on my beta I hope to be able to post on AO3 soon in early 2024.

I saw this post and it reminded me of the time I was looking for a review of a cute little cookbook I’d seen based on a book series, and this reviewer went through to make and review some of the recipes.
For some reason, she chose a bunch that used ingredients she didn’t like. And she rated those recipes poorly. Because of how it tasted like the thing she didn’t like.
She did pick one recipe she was excited about, though. Only she didn’t bother to include all the ingredients. And then rated it poorly because it tasted really bad and dry and idk, maybe I did something wrong, the recipe wanted three cups of dried fruit and I only used a cup of raisins, anyway, terrible bread and would not make again.
So, if you ever get a comment on your fanfic, that amounts to, ‘why is this thing in here, it’s terrible, ew, like I know you tagged it but it’s still gross and I hate that I read it, ew,’ just know it’s really, really, really not you.
There will always be people out there that want to punch themselves in the face so they can wonder why their nose hurts.
#fanfic#fic#i read that review years ago and was just like... ???#so you went through and looked at ALL those recipes and picked ones using ingredients you don't like#the recipe literally says 'these are the things in it' and you went 'oh yeah i don't like those but ok i'll do it EW WHY ARE THESE IN HERE'#this is what people sound like when they complain about things in fic that were tagged#much like a recipe all the ingredients were listed for you which means you know what was in it#you chose to go in anyway
