One Day on the USS Enterprise

Spock: [working at his console, as usual]

Chekhov: [much weaker than usual] K--Keptin on ze Bridge!

Spock: [raises eyebrow, but turns to greet the captain]

Kirk: [smiling, wearing the mini-dress uniform and the chanel thigh high boots] Good morning, Mr. Spock

Spock: [mentally bluescreens so hard he sends out a wave of psychic distress that affects around 1/4th of the crew]

Kirk: ... Mr. Spock?

Spock: thigh--hi-- hello. Captain. I have. Experiments. To see to in the lab. Excuse me. [speed walks off the bridge]

Uhura: [grinning] You look nice today, Captain.

Kirk: [grinning back] thank you, lieutenant.

Total medbay tally for the day: 23 crewmembers psychically concussed, 78 psychically induced migraines (for a number of the crew, this is how they find out they are more psi sensitive than average), 16 lacerations, 5 burns, 1 forcefully sedated Vulcan, and one demand for 6 bottles of Saurian brandy from the Captain by the CMO because McCoy doesn't know what Jim did, but he knows this is Jim's fault (he's so used to Jim's shenanigans that the different uniform doesn't even register to him, at least Jim's wearing clothes.)

Meanwhile, Elsewhere:

Some random Starfleet Intranet Communications Admin: why is there so much comm traffic coming into/out of the Enterprise today?

Fleetnet Admin: [sees a candid holo of Captain Kirk from behind, walking down the halls of the Enterprise, smiling and greeting crew members, while wearing the mini-dress uniform and thigh-high boots that have a small heel]

Fleetnet Admin: oh.

Fleetnet Admin: ...[saves holo]

it’s incredibly funny to me, don’t get me wrong the suicidal self sacrificing Need is critical to their characters (and also bones, mr martyr complex) but they don’t even try to hide it. in tos they try to be subtle and brush it off with excuses that it was necessary to the mission so they don’t: A) let the crew down and B) face the wrath of the other two

aos is fascinating to me just because of how stupidly self-destructive aos kirk can be. that man is a ticking time bomb at all hours of the day. aos spock, bless him, is, um. not much better. two little lemmings leaping over one another to be the one risking their life this week, and leaving poor mccoy with an eternal tension-headache from trying to keep those two idiots from bleeding out.

Thinking about if other species becoming insanely obsessed with random parts of human history because it's just so VAST and there's so much. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that other events like the first contact with the Aksani, the Barkonian renaissance, the whole federation-Eminian 'poison saliva dinner' fiasco, or the Lokirrim-Iconian-Risian trading war were all very interesting.

But I can't help but imagine the endless hilarity that involves something like a group of Andorian teens all being like:

"Did you know that there used to be other types of human sub-species living on earth billions and billions of years ago? Yeah! they were called like knee-an-do-thals and erik-toss or something" "Really? So, it was like the human version of Aenar on their planet?" "I guess so yeah" "So, what happened to them?" "The ancient humans killed them all." "..." "..."

Spock is not the first Vulcan Jim has had dealings with, and he can think of few things that would get T’pri as riled up as quickly as insinuating that she doesn’t love him. He gambles that Spock is the same about his mother, and it pays off. (Or, the one where Jim has a Vulcan daughter, and it leads to all sorts of emotions.)

I absolutely love the casting for the AOS movies because yeah Chris Pine kinda looks like a yassified Jim Kirk, and Zachary Quinto does look like a younger Spock. But then they looked at big, tall, broad shouldered, muscular action man Karl Urban and went. Yeah, I think he can play scrawny bean pole shrimp postured, looks like a light gust of wind would blow him away, Leonard McCoy. And by god, were they correct because it was like the spirit of Deforest Kelley himself possessed him to play Bones.

Star Trek's crazy ass 28 day total runtime leaving everyone else in the shade

i have a billion other criticisms about star trek aos but the one thing i'll never forgive them for is taking away uhura's whimsy. tos uhura has such a bright & joyful presence she is kind and funny and artistic and cares about her looks WHILE ALSO being smart and badass and not afraid to speak her mind (especially in the movies. i love her). aos uhura is reduced to a one-dimensional #girlboss who takes no shit from anyone yet somehow lacks enough self-respect to stay in a boring & unsatisfying relationship with a man who is so obviously not attracted to women
