Darlings. is it gay when the phantom you created as a manifestation of your dreadfull loneliness takes the form of one of your closest friends.
Fanart of this pretty good horror rarijack fanfic, "The haunting of carroussel boutique" personaly i am surprised the writer didnt take the chance to point out how fucking funny this is. Me n kim started laughing about it during stream and i just had to draw this
#i REALLY didn't mean to make this look like theyre fucking#it just happened i apologize#either way the fanfic is pretty good!#but i couldn't help but realise the writer stook to the horror genre like glue#and didn't think to point out how objectively funny that like.#Rarity is sleeping with a copy of applejack#incredibly akward#incredibly funny#also shoutout to when ghosts are born from a wish#fuckin LOVE that. much better than “some guy died here”#Rarity haunted herself because of her awfull loneliness#lucky for her the real thing has come to the rescue#applejack#rarity#rarijack#mlp#my little pony#suggestive#I GUESS!!!#fanfiction#pony posting#The Haunting of Carousel Boutique#friendship is magic#personaly i coulda done with more romance and smidge bit more of comedy#but the fic is still very VERY well put together#one genre fics are unrelatable to me but i respect the hell outta it

I simply think this fandom doesn't give Wei Wuxian enough credit for the various ways in which he saved Lan Wangji
#mdzs#mo dao zu shi#wangxian#idk man- i just see a lot of “Lan Wangji has always been protecting Wei Wuxian” posts and its like...#I mean... Lan Wangji has always certainly been trying to protect Wei Wuxian#it took him a long time to figure how to successfully do that though#rereading the books rn and noticing theres a lot of instances that could be read as lwj being frustrated over his inability to protect wwx#like he seemed ready to cry when wwx went missing for a while and then came back with the cursed leg#lwj has always been great at protecting wwx from physical threats (ex: waterborn abyss) but had no idea how to protect him from himself#meanwhile wwx has always been instictually good at saving lwj from both#like I'm 100% lwj would've become like Jiang Cheng if wwx hadn't snapped him out of the blindly following authority thing#and also like... 15 y/o lwj wasnt happy with his life. he was lonely and stressed and literally signing up to be flogged whenever he goofed#wwx is who allowed lwj to grow up by showing him what it was like to actually be a kid (shown in story whenever lwj gets drunk)#he led lwj to having a more flexible mindset. and it both let lwj relax and set lwj up to be a better parent#looking into lwj's dynamic with the juniors- he lets them break a fuck ton of the petty rules and encourages them to question authority#he also teaches them to not be married to any one meathod of problem solving#wwx is also able to save lwj from his own stubbornness#ex: carrying lwj when he broke his leg. getting lwj to cough up bad blood. getting lwj to keep the rabbits#wwx also tends to give lwj the words he has trouble saying himself. helps him communicate#wwx also protects lwj in fights a lot but thats narratively less important#except the various times wwx puts himself in danger to help lwj. those times are what made it so lwj could never move on from wwx#like with the cave incident#or when wwx helped surpress the arm instead of using the chaos to escape cloud recesses#tldr i guess: i think this fandom tends to treat lwj being the best like its natural to him when really wwx accidentaly rewired his brain#I'm looking directly at fanfic writers who act like the Lans would've treated wwx better than the Jiangs#lwj had to do so much work and self reflection post meeting wwx to be the way he is. he is not the sole product of the Lan teachings

stan twins the canon cptsd brothers i will always think about all your unaddressed issues that would make perfect plot fuel for your spinoff
and also the whole 'stan getting that poem by bill via a website which contrasts with bill getting one from the axolotl via a website' foreshadowing thing
like idk i would love something like su future but like more optimistic, aka not an accumulated breakdown that has to be mostly resolved off screen at the end :/// but something thats being kinda addressed throughout? (although would love to see one of them turn into a monster thats always fun lol)
stan having severe issues from his dad and those years of being homeless that we keep on getting more info on but never really getting confronted on (the drifter catalogue and tijuana incident...), him being completely alone for like twenty years when running the shack before soos comes along to the point that 1998 is noted as his low point, and him not really learning about bill+what he did to ford until ages after he killed him if he ever did get the full context
while i think amnesia and everyone seeing him as a hero actually helped with stan's 'i'm a worse version of my brother' thing its still a lingering issue too and we now got him being insecure over his own hands
ford being immediately thrown from 'being tortured by bill' to 'being stuck in the multiverse and being chased by bounty hunters constantly', him fully expecting himself to die when destroying bill, and him only now being safe for the first time in 30 years ....relatively safe, he's still in constant danger because of course he is
idk in the end the series wants them to be happy and they deserve it, its why i wasn't too worried about the book being like 'ooh bill is back!! and the book is haunting ford' thing cos i knew they'll be ok
#stan pines#ford pines#stanley pines#stanford pines#gravity falls#stan twins#as for the 'still on your mind' thing to me its stan literally thinking about bill despite ford resolving to move past it#or alternatively me on my same coin theory obsession lmao#me yelling and screaming at ouroboros being used to link to the axolotl and bill and how ford didn't actually keep it#which brings up even more questions about it reappearing in the shack when stan takes over#of course even if him realising about reincarnation being a thing i think its still way less to deal with than his actual issues#something something a same soul doesnt mean much when he already proved himself a better person a million times over#idk my thoughts on reincarnation as a concept is like eh??? anyway#also completely unrelated but stan writing fanfic means he knows what soos meant when he was talking about stan fics#soos seems like a gen fic writer especially with the ones we got as those promos#the train one where he comes up with a giant backstory for the setting that has nothing to do with the fic bros is super funny#but meanwhile we have stan the canonical smut writer who had to be writing it that summer#would he be a self insert shipper? would he projecting on the duchess instead? is he both???#i have many questions#then again judging from hows theres a wedding scene that he got super emotional over he might just be a shipper????#this has nothing to do with my original post#...or does it cos the axolotl last appears reacting to stan freaking out about count li--#anyway if you think this post is longer than my usual its cos i physically made myself delete most tags and put it in the actual post

I'm kinda scared to post this but it feels really bad being an actual schizophrenic person and looking at how people treat Thorin and talk about his "goldsickness" as if it's a moral failing. It hurts especially when people say or imply that his (psychosis-induced) actions wouldn't or shouldn't be forgiven by any of his family, friends, or his people and he wouldn't be accepted as King even if/when they discovered he only acted the way he did because he was just... y'know. mentally ill. Temporarily, at that! Because it was caused by a factor that can be permanently removed (the Arkenstone, I mean. It's painfully clear that the Arkenstone was the cause of it in the movies' canon)
"Oh, maybe his SICKNESS was caused by a magic jewel that is clearly cursed somehow, but it was still HIS fault that he was INSANE (never mind that he was actively delusional and hallucinating). He still loved and trusted Bilbo in the throes of his MADNESS, so it MUST have been a true reflection of his SELFISH DESIRE and GREED." This is how some of you sound.
It's even worse when people do the same thing to Frodo (even though both the book and movies depict him having delusions and hallucinations/visions akin to hallucinations, on top of all the other horrific things happening to him). "haha Frodo almost dies a dozen times and everyone else does all the heavy lifting just for him to STILL fail at the end. Sam was the TRUE hero of the story because Frodo was a useless whiny sad-sack and would have accomplished NOTHING without him" fuck you fuck you fuck you
I don't know where else to go with this. It just makes me question how some of you would treat me if you met me or knew what I experience on a day to day basis. It feels bad
#I don't think making Thorin experience psychosis is a problem in and of itself. it's just the way people do it#I find some jokes about it funny but it bothers me when people say he could've just “snapped out of it” at any time by sheer will#or their idea of “intervention” is stern scolding or physical force from his loved ones. or worse... Bilbo SEDUCING him out of it :/#instead of like. y'know. just taking care of him and taking away whatever might be causing it (the Arkenstone in this case)#and surprise! that's exactly what Bilbo does in the movie (and yeah Thorin was mad about initially. but he was better almost immediately)#and then some fanfic writers have the audacity to portray Thorin's illness into a permanent character trait. or worse. turn it into a KINK#it makes me feel sick#none of this is to say Thorin ISN'T responsible for what harm he caused#but it's MUCH different when someone literally doesn't know what's real and what isn't#my post#text post#the hobbit#battle of five armies#lotr#lord of the rings#thorin oakenshield#bilbo baggins#bagginshield#frodo baggins#actually schizophrenic

sometimes I tear up knowing that most human beings on planet Earth won't read the greatest literature ever written (average Band of Brothers fic). I hope aliens are receiving internet signals and are enjoying the best of what the human mind has to offer (reading the top Band of Brothers fics on AO3)
#band of brothers#i'm not even kidding. why is the average band of brothers fic 100x better than the average fic in every other fandom#and this is why i'm a fanfic writer but only a band of brothers fic enjoyer bc i'm just not meeting that standard for at least another 10yr#check out my winnix fic in 2034 it's gonna be great

(whispers) hey friends I appreciate your excitement but gentle reminder it’s not very polite to ask fanfic writers when the next chapter is gunna come out
#remember friends: fanfic writers do this for fun when they have enough down time and wanna write#I’m an adult with a lot of adult responsibilities going on!!#again I appreciate your enthusiasm but ur just gunna have to trust me#ESPECIALLY since I sort of have a posting schedule#gentle reminder that fic writers shouldn’t need a schedule ever#I just have one because it keeps me on my toes#and that’s just a personal preference#but even then it’s just sort of a rough guideline— sometimes life stuff happens!!#and remember!!! a chapter that takes time will always be better than a rushed one#sorry to pop off but ya girl has had. A Week.#I’m not mad just a little tired#probably gunna delete tomorrow#but for now g’d night#pastel prattling

i truly am excited for the numerous miguel o'hara fics flooding my feed, but as someone whose first language is spanish i have one plea:
please do not use google translate for writing sentences in spanish bc 90% of the time they will sound quite off
some recommended resources:
spanishdict
linguee
deepL
word reference is also handy for understanding the context behind certain phrases or words
or maybe a friend you know who speaks and writes spanish!!
if anyone else has suggestions please feel free to rb!
-
Edit jun 7: shameless plug to read my Miguel O‘Hara x reader fic (latine reader) if you’re interested!
#i love the love miguel is getting and it's cool seeing writers branch out and try incorporating a language they might not be familiar with#but using the above resources will help with making the spanish in your fic flow better#i also might need to write another post on the latin lover stereotype bc phewww#that's for another day lol#a lil friendly psa from a tired latina lol#miguel o'hara fanfiction#miguel o'hara x reader#not sure if these are even the right tags?#discourse#just in case?#fanfic#there's a reason why the spanish teachers hated google translate LOL#man i also need to hop on the miguel o'hara fanfic train i'll get there

fanfiction should be accessible to shitty writers. if you find yourself on ao3 thinking “wow most of this is bad” and “these people could never be real authors” then like. i don’t know. too bad? go read a novel. and i don’t say that to be snarky i just mean it. shitty fanfiction will always exist and always has. not every piece will be in perfect conversation with the source material and that’s fine. most of it is not written by people with literature degrees. but most of it is written out of a deep and genuine love or at least interest in the source. that doesn’t mean every fanfiction writer has the skills to write a professionally published novel. many do but many don’t. the same could be and has been said for a lot of traditionally published authors.
furthermore i think the increase in shitty, cash-grabby books (which, i don’t know, has there really been an increase or are we just paying more attention to it? there have always been bad books.) is less to do with fanfiction authors writing books and more to do with the ever-increasing need for content by publishing houses/companies.
i want people to keep writing shitty fanfiction and i want them to get love for it too. i don’t want them to feel discouraged from even trying. especially when they’re really not hurting anyone by writing about something they love and wanting positive attention for it. how else are they going to discover writing. how did You discover your love for writing? did you learn to be a better writer because you kept doing it and were encouraged or because people constantly shit on what you were doing wrong? all you’re encouraging people to do is not try. like. i don’t know. i think even a fanfiction you think is bad can be taken seriously if the author wants you to. i don’t know. am i making sense. i don’t know.
#op#and this is more than just like#fanfic writers don’t need criticism#i’m not saying that. there’s stuff you can criticize especially when an author is asking to be taken seriously#but i wish we could do it more with love and wanting the writers to be better than out of like. hatred for people who don’t know#what they’re doing yet#lol#idk

Trying to find works (fanart & fanfics) focused on 2012 Leoichi specifically is HARD because Rise Leoichi is way more popular.
So during my search I finally found one about 2012 Leoichi but as I read it I realized that it’s also a 2012 Splinter slander fanfic with him being a raging homophobe and beating Leo after he came out.
#no hate to the writer but whhhyyyyyy#I should’ve read the fanfics info better#so that’s on me#but still#2012 SPLINTER WOULD NEVER#HE LOVES HIS SONS#JUST GIVE ME A HAPPY FLUFF 2012 LEOICHI FIC WHERE WE DONT HAVE TO SHIT ON SPLINTER PLEASE#random thoughts#tmnt 2012#tmnt#teenage mutant ninja turtles#tmnt leonardo#yuichi usagi#tmnt splinter#leoichi#2012 leoichi#leo x yuichi#usagi chronicles

sorry for the vent, but nothing annoys me more than people who don't read the comics because they claim they don't want to read inconsistent characterization. Just say you're too attached to the fandom versions of the characters! You don't want to find out what they are actually like!! Being inconsistent with what you like is not the same as being inconsistent!
Because, at the end of the day, these people don't know if the stories are inconsistent because they don't actually know the characters, they haven't read the context, and they don't know how the events in the story came to be. These characters have been around for decades. They've "done" almost everything under the sun. If someone's only heard a laundry list of things they've done (usually told by a pretty biased 3rd party, myself included) then of course the actions are going to sound inconsistent. The connecting tissue of how they got from point A to point B is the entire point of a story.
I think this urks me so much because it’s always couched in this haughty, "it's impossible to read all of the comics and they’re not good enough to try" language, which for one thing, is just such a dismissive attitude of something they claim to love. But the other thing is that, so often, these people love to talk or write about specific comic events. If all they're writing about is the batfam going for a day at Disneyland, then yeah, they don't need to read anything. But if they're specifically writing a fic to address, like...Tim and Jason's fight at Titans Tower, or Bruce's return from the timestream, especially in a “fix-it” framing, and they can't be bothered to read the *40 pages of pictures where that happens*....what is this manufactured outrage? Are they just trying to be angry about something that never happened? Are they so obsessed with the canon being wrong that they can't give the thing they're mad at a chance to be right?
#dick grayson#jason todd#bruce wayne#tim drake#batman meta#fandom wank#look i get not reading canon#its intimidating and if youre reading for comfort then of course you just want to read the easy world of fanfic!#but can people stop with this weird disdain for the comics industry#like sorry you have to earn that bit and the way you do it is by being personally affected by reading a bad comic#like idk i also side eye anyone who hates on the titans tower fics without having read any of them#like there are guys on reddit who talk about how terrible tumblr/fanfic fandom is and they are also wrong because they haven't been in it#but these fic writers are the same with canon#its pretty sad when you're no better than people on reddit

I have the controversial opinion that maybe, just maybe we stop wanting to go after people with pitchforks for getting characters wrong and not reading the comics inviting them to easy and accessible ways of and making our own content with comic accurate representation
people might feel less anxious about starting comics and misinformation won't spread as easily
#but that just me#I'm a batman fan for maybe all my life but just started seriously getting to the comics of half of the batfamily as an adult#let people take their time#some of them just got here#“THEYRE WRONG” you can block them#“THEY'RE GOING TO INFFECT THE CANNON JUST LIME THEY DID WITH TIM AND COFFEE” make accurate jokes then push people who make accurate jokes#interact with accurate jokes#make informative posts#if every time we feel the hit to beat up a comic inaccuracy post we make a funny little comic accuracy post maybe there won't be as much#disinformation peace and love on the planet earth.#never going to forget how much I shit on bad spideypool fanfics until I get to read some of my favorite writers old fanfics and they were#absolutely nothing like the characters#some people take time some people don't know where to start#some people don't have time to read the comics#some people don't have your favorite character whole backstory engraved#“THEY CAN RESEARCH” of course and fannon would be better if they did but have you consider....you have the power to make it better#i just think sometimes we can take the spite and make something beautiful#q rambles#i wrote the shit and forgot to finish LMAO

Anyone else start as a fanfic writer then started writing your own original ideas, and the best way to do it is to write your drafts like fanfiction of your own work? Like that's the only way I get stuff done.
I write a story with the characters I like, write an arc with facts about the world and characters as it becomes relevant, no real point to the scenes except me having fun with a scene I happen to be enjoying. I take a character I wanna have fun with, say "Go do that important thing so we have a plot while you show off how cool you are", then add random ideas that sound generic but fun to act as story beats. They went to a town, they got beat up by monsters, they discovered a super power, they make friends.
I take breaks between writing the story to obsess over other stuff, then come back when I have an epiphany in the shower a month later and quickly resolve the current arc in order to jump them into the next one. Like, there's still continuity, they mention "Hey we just went through something, wanna talk about your feelings?" "Not really man, wanna go on a quest for that Macguffin and uncover our deep-seated issues that way?" "Sure!" But the story follows a barely-connected story beat with side characters and new world building for the new adventure. And then this happens over and over.
Then I come back, one day.
I'm 600 pages into this Sysphian writing style of starting arcs that have barely any organization yet undeniable continuity and I think to myself, "Man, what if I just start the whole thing over now that I know where the story KINDA goes." So I start writing my second draft...like it's a fanfic of my original draft. I can do whatever the hell I want with these quirky facts about the characters, maybe translate one hobby into a backstory, take this tragic fact about the backstory and make it into an actual trait that defines how they react to situations, take these two characters that would TOTALLY get along and make them friends, I can take a character who should be getting introduced way later and just introduce them now!
And then it's...it's good? It's something I would genuinely read without cringing at??
It's got foreshadowing and interpersonal conflict and secret passions and even more secret traumas and it's humorous and the introduction of characters or quests actually seem to...make sense??? Like oh shit there's actually a REASON we want this thing, it's not a Macguffin anymore! Oh crap these two characters who were later revealed to be related can have a really interesting dynamic if I introduce them like they know from the beginning they're related instead of dropping it like the most casual thing ever in an arc 300 pages later??? These two characters are prominent figures so they would likely get along but have SO much sass between their one braincell. Ya know, this guy would be a really great guy for them to talk to in order to solve that weakness they have, but they wouldn't fix it because they don't get along. OH MY GOD I COULD SHIP THESE TWO AND IT WOULD BE PERFECT -
And what I get is a story where a lot of things have changed, mainly plot-wise, but the bare bones of the former story is still there. I think "Would this character know anything about this topic?" and then think "Well I made them an inventor with a backstory like this, so maybe they wouldn't know it directly, but they'd know a famous story about it" or "Yeah, that knowledge works with their backstory. Actually, if I take that thing I can expand it into this whole other thing. Wait, that means they would definitely know this other character. Oh, they would NOT get along with this character, how can I get THEM in the same room?"
Bonus, because my draft is so long, I feel the natural urge to be like "I wanna write the most exciting scene RIGHT NOW, how do I skip over all the fluff to get to the stuff I wanna WORK with" and so I've written a way more interesting hook that feels more natural jumping into the middle of their lives. I don't have to have the long-winded backstory from birth to the present, but now I can have them reference their backstory as more of a mystery to the characters they just meet - who are learning at the same time as the audience. I can think about how this character perceives that backstory and chooses to describe it, how another who was related might see it differently, and make it unclear who had the more accurate recounting since, ya know, I didn't actually write it beat for beat in this version!
The characters sometimes evolve into something completely different from my original telling - and I have NO IDEA how but I'll take it man! I had a shy and nice character get introduced as a more mysterious but knowledgeable and competent character because I had finally figured his personality out later on. He's still a tragic and kind person, but now he's being introduced to someone who doesn't know him and I get to see how yo he would be so much cooler if THIS was the side of him we saw FIRST. This is how he acts to strangers, rather than bearing his heart and true personality on the first go around because in the first draft I just wanted to get to the part where we're already going with his true version.
This is just how I write fanfiction. This character had this thing about them, but what if it was introduced like THIS?!
Basically I'm an AU OC writer at heart. Ask me to pull a story outta my ass and you'll get the equivalent of burnt toast, but ask me to write a fanfic of my own characters and I am a Master Chef in my natural habitat making a buffet. Why does my brain work like this? Am I the only one that does this?
#writing#writing thoughts#truly the fanfic writer within will always reign supreme#fanfic but with OCs#just shower thoughts#2am thoughts#i wanna read this newfangled fanfiction of my story! it's way better than the original!#wait I actually have to write it

just started book 3 of my ATLA rewatch and, all goofs aside, I do think it's a massive shame how many genuinely interesting ideas are in here which never get to shine because the headwriters are fundamentally uncomfortable with the themes they inserted into their own story.
they want to write a story introducing kids to the concept of war, but all of their main characters are inexplicably insanely competent and powerful, so we only get a handful of scenes depicting the war with any amount of realism. these scenes usually involve very minor one-off characters, and while evocative to adult viewers to an extent, they are likely to go over kids' heads because they're not grounded in the central narrative.
the writers are eager to borrow concepts from various asian mythologies and schools of thought, but they cherry-pick the parts they think are "cool" or "deep", while ignoring or shouting down ideas that don't neatly line up with what they themselves are already able to relate to (see the whole "opening the chakras"/"letting go of katara" plotline).
they want to portray strong, independent female characters standing up to sexism, but every female character must still on some level aspire to be someone's wife (and the dark-skinned girls are depicted as already fitting the mold perfectly; it seems to be the price they pay to be allowed in the story at all. the writers attempted to branch out a little in the sequel series with korra, but immediately felt so uncomfortable they felt the need to put the character through an insanely traumatic plotline as punishment for creative choices they made!).
there are many more of these, but you get the pattern. it's what happens when creatives like the idea of doing something meaningful, but ultimately can't bring themselves to leave their own comfort zones.
I'd honestly be interested in reading fanfiction of ATLA by writers who have a better understanding of the themes it's trying to depict, because there are a lot of interesting pieces on the board and I would love to see them moved around by players who aren't fucking stupid and actually know what the hell they're talking about
#deerchatter#orientalism cw#racism cw#i'm still reeling from that fucking toph-katara interaction that was something like#toph: i feel so ... girly! :) katara: i'm so glad ^u^#what a microcosm of the entire problem with this series. not just the sexism but the whole thing#writers who desperately want to do something cool but unfortunately even approaching the concept of cool gives them the ick#i want to see someone do nice writing for katara ... there isn't much to her character outside of being doomed to be aang's mommy-wife#but god what is there has so much potential. if she was just treated like a person she would have the most interesting arc of all of them#unfortunately she's written by writers who think being forced into pseudo-motherhood at age 12 makes a girl a better person.#god help her. fanfic writers help her

AHHHHHHH, the rubyxprice ship is amazing. I imagine before they're "situation ship," started something like this happened
I just imagine her walking on him drinking on the couch arms on his knees, head hanging low, and her just going to check on him so she stands in front of him kinda between his legs.
He looks up a totally defeated expression on his face she looks shocked at seeing the venerable display of emotions from him. Asks him if he's alright and him staying silent for a few seconds then in one fast but clumsy move hugs her stomach tightly.
Ruby just freezes for a while, getting more and more concerned, but she slowly relaxes putting a hand on his back and rubbing it in slow soothing circles and the other hand sets idly on his shoulder squeezing softly.
"Price?... are you alright?" Although he's the one that's upset, her voice is the one trembling holding concerne for him and a flustered feeling due to his closeness, "mhmm" he just hums and she feels that hum in her soul. "John..." She drags out his name and goes to pull away, but he holds her tighter almost painfully so, "jus- just a little bit more love" he says then he adds in a somewhat broken whisper "please" She doesn't even notice the term of indermeant still only foucing on how warm he is and how his soft hair feels on her hand- wait! His hair?! She hasn't even noticed that she started lightly scratching his head, and her face flames immediately.
She holds him tighter, nodding frantically because if she spoke, she's not sure her voice would be steady, and she tells herself that she needs to be steady for john right now. A rock that he can lean on, a softer rock she hopes but a rock nonetheless.
He looks up at her, his eyes holding a questioning stare, realising that he can't hear her nod. She clears her throat and says . "Of course, john," she's proud of herself for the lack of trembling she was sure her voice would have.
He holds eye content for a few more seconds and then rests his forehead once again on her stomach. She continues rubbing his back and playing with his hair softly for a while, basking in the comfortable silence his company brings.
Or something like that 😔

Seeing that one post going around that's just basically 'say if you ever read fanfictions that are better than published books' and it's like, yeah of course there are some that are better, because some people are genuinely good writers, but also there are good books too, and then seeing people say things like, 'I have never read a good book I only prefer fanfictions' and it's just?? Seek out some books? There are so many different kinds, for so many different things. It just sounds like you're reading for an easy serotonin boost than really engaging with the work.
People who write books and people who write fanfics have one thing in common: they write. They are doing the act of writing, and each person is going to have different styles and come at it with different experiences. Also, if your favorite fanfic writer comes out with an original work that's not just filing the serial numbers off, will you read it? Or are you only there because they're writing your favorite characters from another piece of media (which might even be from a book?). Speaking as a fanfic writer who is happy when people compliment my writing, please read some books I'm begging. Not everything is from booktok.
#shrimpy rambles#I am probably looking into this too hard but sometimes people are weird about fanfic#it's this amazing thing but also they will never read anything outside of this author's portfolio that is not about their fave m/m ship#I also just think you become a better writer by reading from different things#which includes novels that aren't just YA#I just also really like some old classic novels like the scarlet letter and edgar huntly which are not perfect but fascinating to me#and I have also definitely read completely awful novels too#but I think you learn something from them still#anyway this is also a reminder to myself to read more books because I've been slacking#I love fanfic and I love writing it but that wouldn't have happened if I never read books#even those outside my favorite genre#read some books plz
