2024 review

this year i explored a lot of the darker characters/dynamics which was an absolute pleasure, but i think such heavy plots also drained the energy out of me (or maybe it was the absolute monster of a wip i was writing consistently all year). while i did slip in some fluffy lighthearted fics here and there, i decided to take a break in november from writing in general. after an actual no-writing few weeks, i went back to my wip series and decided to just follow my heart (as if i hadn't already been doing that before) but more importantly, not force myself to write.

as of 2024, i have written more than a million words in a span of 3 years. i think i deserve to be slow with writing now! (plus, life, folks. real life.) thank you to all my lovely mutuals and readers for the incredible support you've shown me here!

- posted: march 27th - pairing: droid!jongho x programmer!reader - comments: this was THE toughest fic to plan (not the time travel ones, not even mafia, but THIS). i haven't read many droid stories so lack of reader knowledge, and then wanting to still make a plot out of it other than 'omg my boyfriend turned into a droid' was hard. i rewrote this so many times but i'm very satisfied with how it turned out.

2024 Fanfic in Review

I got tagged by all kinds of people for a version of this. @spotsandsocks @dangerpronebuddie @exhuastedpigeon @hippolotamus and I'm sure others.

I wrote 66,000k words and five stories last year. All buddie except for one. More than I thought. I tried to write outside my comfort zone on a few things and had fun with suspense on my favorite story of the year.

Eppy 7.04 missing scenes. Like others, I wrote this after the episode, but instead of focusing on the kiss. I wrote a Tommy POV of his pursuit of Eddie while Buck slowly goes insane. Because that's what happened to me. Lol.

The 118 with Athena get trapped in an underground lab while fighting for their lives. Think suspense thriller meets horror film with everyone getting chances to shine and be bad ass competent. Also lots of whump for all. Of course this was my fav :)

2024 Spirk Fic Year In Review

After a five year dry spell, I finally started writing again in late 2023. Creating fanfic has been a shock and a joy to me this year. It's incredible going into 2025 once more feeling confident in my ability to assemble words into sentences.

This year I added another 50K words to One Daily Shoulder Pat, posted 12 short stories (complete fics under 10K words), wrote my first Spirk poem, and created some very special pasta art.

It's interesting to look back and see trends in my own work. This has been a year of ridiculous Vulcan names, bemusingly wholesome dirty talk, and flipping the script on reliable tropes.

you know, I really wasn't expecting Jin Guangyao to win the most spots on my art summary this year but you know what he deserves it, probably, maybe... I think I did less art than usual this year though because I spent most of the spring frantically writing a couple massive fanfics, and then most of July I was traveling, so it was rather feast or famine art-wise for me

and now for the breakdown!

This year SVSSS managed to pull into the lead as the fandom I drew the most art for which... is honestly pretty impressive given that I started that series in August? my apologies to literally everyone who could not have expected this sudden deluge... very different from Hogan's Heroes and Torchwood which were my most prolific fandoms last year (ᵕ—ᴗ—);;;

Biggest surprise while writing this year?

since I started writing this year I was surprised at actually getting any hits or attention at all. I only started writing because my cousin dared me to, so I wrote 'it's dark tonight (will you stay?)' and then started to get a positive reaction and kept writing.

New things I tried: Basically everything! I haven’t written fanfic since I was a teen, and back then it was maybe a few chapters worth of content that went nowhere. Most unexpectedly though, I hadn’t pictured myself trying smut or finishing a nearly 200k word fic.

Fic I spent the most time on: Lead Me Through the Dark, from February to December

Fic I spent the least time on: Through the Veil on my own account, but my secret alter-ego probably wins this one with some particularly terrible entries to Volo’s Erotic Library 👀

Favourite thing I wrote: Oh my god, it’s so difficult to pick! There are different faves for different reasons. The aforementioned secret stories, because of the horrified reactions they received. Lead Me Through the Dark because it helped me meet so many cool people and was my first entry into writing and the bg3 fandom; Help! I’m the Main Character! Because I personally have found that so much fun to write; and Gods Damned Gale Dekarios because I think it’s genuinely a well-written, funny one-shot, and I freaking love Opulentus as a character. I also think my Dreadrook fic I’m currently writing, What Is It That Stays My Hand? has been my best writing yet, but we shall have to see how it turns out going forward into the new year.

New works for 2025: I just finished Act 1 of What Is It That Stays My Hand? So will continue working on that. Might update HITMC a bit too, and also wanted to write a LMTTD AU that would be a short fic. And then, who knows? Wherever my obsessions take me! 👁️👄👁️

Hey lovely awesmazing people and Happy New 2025! Hope it is more bright, more magical, more fun and more inspirational!

As I countdown the hours to saying goodbye to a pretty darn nasty year, I am looking back at some not so bad moments and taking a page from @devooshawrites stealing this lovely idea and doing my own writing review.

✨It has been a year of battles as I got addicted to Writing Battle and did as many as I could. It's exhilarating and I hope to get into even more in 2025.

Between writing battles, London Writer's Salon weekly writing contests and an amazing speedrun zine, Cafeeine Rush, hosted by @bycmykae my new OCs Ryan and Star and their wonderous universe were born. Hoping to be able to bring you more of “The Universe Beyond” in 2025.

✨Even though it was just one, I managed to get out a chapter of “As Loud As a Whisper, As Silent As a Scream”. Thanks so much to @vexednperplexed for the push and faith in me. Love you dear friend. I did also work a lot on the detailed outline for this, so 2025 should hopefully see even more chapters.

✨Of course transformative works have been on my creative forefront again this year. Still very much into my VLD blackhole but slowly branching out as well. Most of the others are in a wip or outline state so they will have to come in 2025 so stay tuned.

✨Last but by no means least, I was honoured and blessed to be part of a few projects this year. new things I tried: writing (and finishing) a smut piece! that's been on my want-to-do list for a while, so that feels good to accomplish. I also wrote and posted my first polyship works this year!

fic I spent the most time on: the very condition of existence, my fic for @thedragonagebigbang! Female Mahariel/Anora, a childhood friends to strangers to lovers AU where Mahariel & Anora meet as children in the forest outside Gwaren and are reunited years later during the Landsmeet.

fic I spent the least time on: this one is always hard for me to gauge, but probably either softness did not serve me or spit your blood and bare your teeth, two of the pieces I wrote about Nika Brosca's history with the Carta for Febuwhump (mind the tags)

favorite thing I wrote: of my completed works, knee deep without a plea - Lucanis' POV of the weeks Rook spends in the Fade prison! I am really proud of the details I worked into this one for Lucanis and Spite, and the emotions across all of the characters. Honorable mention to before you can kill the monster (you have to say its name) - my WIP rewrite of the end of Davrin's personal arc, incorporating more of the nuance from Isseya's character in Last Flight, and filling in the gaps between the end of the novel and where Veilguard picks up. I'm really proud of the first chapters, and of where my outline is going, but I don't think I can put it at the top of my favorites until it's fully realized

there is no god but they'll kill you for him by tenderest (@/tendertieflings) - f!Lavellan & Dorian, Solavellan, heart-wrenching and angsty "Dorian & Lavellan deal with everything that happened with Solavellan and the world post-Trespasser.

floriography by ritualist - Harding/Josephine, tooth-rotting fluff and humor that contrasts Harding's earnest nature with Josephine's poise, bringing them together in a very sweet way.

contact poison by hellsreluctantheir (@/nonagesimus) - Teia/Viago, yes it's smut but it is also an amazing exploration of their dynamic, and really digs into some of the issues laid out for Viago in Tevinter Nights.

Razorwing by unoshot - f!Rook/Lucanis, a character study of their relationship throughout Veilguard that really pops off with the emotion and the imagery.

hound dogs howlin' round the gate by mortonsspoon (@shivunin) - f!Tabris & f!Tabris, I'm admittedly biased af bc this was an OC gift for me BUT objectively it is such a heartfelt piece about Tabris cousins that will get you all up in your city elf feels 😭💜

And if I'm really ambitious, finish my Mahariel cure-for-the-Calling fic, which was the first DA fic I ever conceptualized, but has languished as I work and rework her canon.
