This week, I've been trying to be extra careful about what kind of carbs I eat and how much. I was not very good about it last week, between depression and not feeling great. And on Monday I splurged and ate a hamburger and fries from a place I haven't been to in years (and it was definitely worth it). So today especially, I was extra careful aside from the half a rotini pasta I tasted to see if it was done (partner wanted pasta while I just ate leftover grains, meatballs, and salad).
But all I want right now is a plate of gnocchi. Soft, pillowy, heavenly little potato-based treats. So I'm making myself a deal. If I can get my a1c to go down, even just a tiny bit, I'll let myself get gnocchi from my favorite Italian place as a reward. And if being careful doesn't bring it down, I might still get it as a comfort food treat.
I have four months to go before my next lab test. I really hope this all helps.

I also found out I have pretty pretty high cholesterol. This wasn't something my doctor flagged for me just 4 years ago when I last had labs, meaning it's a pretty new issue. That checks out since I've always had good cholesterol.
In good news I'm not even in the ballpark of at risk for diabetes which is the one everyone's worried about for me constantly cuz im fat.
Made an appointment with a psych but I can't get in till May. But once I get my vitamin D under control and get on some kind of mental health pills/assistance and get some energy back it'll be a lot easier to exercise. Until then I'm just gonna focus on eating meat and dairy a little more discerningly and drinking more water cuz my labs came back dehydrated too >_>;
I really wish my doctor had given me some more specific instructions than just "go on a diet and exercise" without even asking me about my diet or activity levels but what can you do. Once you're over 300 pounds you're not really a person to a doctor until you've lost half that.

it's always weird to find out something you've heard your entire life is simply untrue. apparently the thing i've always heard about "too much sugar = diabetes" is just completely wrong

Good on the WHO for holding Coca Cola accountable in some way, but I don't want to see anyone giving people who still drink it a hard time. Some people are diabetic. Some people find it helps them with migraines. Some people desperately need caffeine and find it their least objectionable option. If you wouldn't give someone crap for drinking a beer every day, don't jump in to "Um actually" people who choose to drink diet soda

Day three of attempt at dieting to lower my a1c and I'm not happy. I'm hungry. I was good at breakfast and only ate a bit of leftover chicken and pico de gallo and the last of the guacamole. Lunch was vegetable soup and one 2 inch square of bread (last of the bread from the Italian place partner went to the other day). By dinner I was very hungry and having bad cramps (thanks lady parts, I still hate you). And since it's still too hot to cook we got burgers because In-N-Out does protein style without buns. I'm still hungry though and the pain pills aren't kicking in so I'm in a bad mood. I'll get used to it eventually, but this is bringing up bad memories.

"You don't look disabled/trans/bi/like a guy/sick/diabetic/mentally ill/neurodivergent/autistic/in pain"
*Fucking smacks you with my big paws*
#dorian speaks#for a lot of these it's just dealing with bigotry/blatant ignorance#and many people won't even listen to you if you try to explain#they'll just believe their own assumptions to be true#and as a result - they'll “suggest” things that are legitimately harmful/don't apply whatsoever#this has been particularly true for me being a T1 diabetic#and people not knowing how hugely different it is from T2 diabetes in most ways#like... T1 is something you couldn't HOPE to prevent if you tried and it can happen to literally anybody - it's AUTOIMMUNE#I don't have any known family history of ANY diabetes and I got it#people will assume I'm not “allowed” to take any spaces for the disabled#just because they don't see my disability (T1D... chronic joint pain... foot injury that won't heal due to circumstances... etc)#and people have specific beliefs of what LGBTQIA+ people “should look like” or whatever which is just... don't.#The “you don't look neurodivergent/autistic” shit is something a lot of people deal with#If you had seen me as a kid you'd definitely think I'm autistic (actually a lot of people did but only as a reason to bully me)#But like... do you expect me to act/behave/have the same experiences my ENTIRE life without ANY changes whatsoever?#You do realize people learn to cope/adapt to some stuff... right? The experiences will differ throughout life. Each person is different#Nobody bothered to diagnose me when I was still a kid and my country doesn't diagnose adults at all so... fun times being taken seriously#I won't “look” neurodivergent or even mentally ill because there's this little thing called MASKING#and I had to learn to do that to keep myself safe for much of my life (from judgement/abuse/etc)#which has brought its own challenges#People don't have to look/sound/behave/outwardly seem like they're something or dealing with something to be valid#Idk how to phrase any of this any better but I feel like a lot of this is stuff people have experienced to some extent

This article is originally published on Freedom from Diabetes website , available here. You want to know, is type-2 diabetes is genetic or not? The answer is yes. But it is depend upon some factors. Frequent need to visit the washroom.
