Two intense hurricanes hitting Florida back to back is fucking insane and like we already know Milton is gonna be category 4 (iirc) when it makes landfall but the fact people were downplaying it when they thought it would be a category 3 is crazy because HURRICANE KATRINA, KNOWN FOR BEING CATASTROPHICALLY DESTRUCTIVE, WAS A CATEGORY 3 HURRICANE (though a lot of its destruction was due to the levees failing in New Orleans). Milton's storm surge is going to be 15-20ft and the fact that anyone at all is CHOOSING to stay is absolutely fucking bonkers. It's one thing about people not being able to leave, which is the majority of people who have not yet/will not evacuate (which is a whole different issue because, by all means, people who are incapable of evacuating for any reason at all SHOULD be receiving help so that they CAN evacuate, but they AREN'T) but choosing not to? Crazy. Insane. Putting you and your family at risk because you want to be a stubborn fucking moron. And the people who are upset about having to cancel their Disney vacations, or people who are REFUSING to cancel their Disney vacations even with the current situation, should be ashamed. Those poor workers have to come to work, worried about their own safety, worried about the safety of their families, and the reason they have to be there is because they're expected to be there by people who don't give a shit about anyone else. What the hell are you going to do at Disney anyway? It's literally going to be raining for DAYS STRAIGHT.

If your dog is experiencing heatstroke, here’s what to do: https://www.vet.cornell.edu/departments-centers-and-institutes/riney-canine-health-center/health-info/heatstroke-medical-emergency#:~:text=Heatstroke%20is%20a%20medical%20emergency,way%20to%20your%20veterinary%20hospital.

Note that they say��“cool” water, not cold, and just says to wet them on the way to the hospital, not submerge them. That’s an important distinction! 

A friend of mine lost her childhood dog in a very awful way: her mom didn’t realize the dog was in the car and left him in there for an extended period of time on a hot day. Eventually, the mom realized he was there, and by then he was having heat stroke. Then instead of immediately taking him to the vet (like you should do in that situation) she submerged him in a cold bath, which caused him to go into shock and die. And this was a completely healthy 3-year-old dog.

So, if your dog is showing signs of heat stroke:

Get them to the vet ASAP

On the way to the vet, put them in front of the AC, and wet -- don’t submerge -- them in cool -- not cold -- water. Don’t place towels over them -- those can trap in heat.

This is going to be an unpleasant post but I need to talk to y’all about heat stroke in dogs. I am an ER vet and I am seeing firsthand the death toll that this heat wave is taking on our pets. In the past two weeks, for every single weekend shift I have worked, we have had at least one DOA with a body temperature over 107 degrees. One of them had simply been on a 20 minute walk at 5pm. All of them were brachycephalic (short faced breeds like pugs and french bulldogs). Their owners were in shock that this could happen so quickly, and their grief lingers with me.

If you have a dog, and especially if you have a brachycephalic dog, you need to familiarize yourself with the signs of heat stroke. Do not take your dogs out in the heat of the day, be aware of the pavement temperature, and always have fresh water available for them. When I am outdoors with my dog I am checking on him constantly. This heat wave is extremely serious; I need you to keep yourself and your pets safe.

I’m not a sheep hearder nor do I care for livestock. But there’s just something primal and intuitive about watching for predators when I let my dogs out in the backyard.

They are both small dogs under twenty-ish pounds and my backyard is not fenced in and is connected to a bluff with a little forest behind it.

There are coyotes, hawks, eagles, owls, falcons, foxes, turkeys, and deer that travel through my backyard. Coyotes have killed my neighbors cats and tried to get their big labs. So being on a constant lookout is a must, and that feeling of being protective and observant always makes me guess if this is what my farming ancestors felt.

Multiple times there have been hawks and such circling my dogs and we have to get them back inside. When my mom wasn’t paying attention once, a hawk got within thirty feet above one.

Imagine losing everything that is dear to you in one day. This is the harsh reality that my family is facing in Gaza. I am is Hasan Alserr, and I communicate with you with a heart full of pain and a desperate call for help.

On July 28, 2024, my world crashed when my mother and sister were tragically killed during an attack on the tent displaced in the safe areas of Muwasi Khan Yunis, as the Israeli occupation claims. Our family of seven has been destroyed - my father, my only sister four brothers. Now, we are only five people, struggling to survive under horrific conditions.

In addition, my father has the only source of income that supports us, as we have been displaced several times, and every transition strips us of stability and hope. One day the walls were safe, leaving the survivors' family in a temporary tent, holding on to hope amid their broken dreams.

I know how to fight and defend myself, how to minimize collateral damage in a fight, and ive gotten really good and escaping kidnapping attempts. Ive also managed to reform and/or make allies out of approximately half of my rogues and can talk down about 30% of all rogue confrontations before they turn into a messy fight. The other things i can bring to the table are: one, i can teach all of you guys proper liminality self care; two, i can probably minimize and possibly cure red hood's anger issues; three, i can get along with stabby robin because i consider fighting a friendly social interaction - he can even stab me and i wont be injured by it; four, i can be your go-to guy for supernatural cases so you no longer have to deal with that sad trenchcoat man; five-
