Davrin's and Bellara's banters are so good it's a shame they don't actually let them have any of these conversations in cutscenes considering how much more it tells you about Davrin's character and also how interesting it would be for the both of them to discuss the gods, how they feel about them, and their difference of opinion. he does clearly feel a lot of fondness for the Dalish, even if he doesn't necessarily believe in the gods, and i don't know why they don't let him say this stuff during his quest when he goes to visit Eldrin or when he's talking about his purpose with the griffons and the Grey Wardens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bellara: What about the people? Davrin: I missed the sense of common purpose. A clan acting as one. Everywhere else, people were in it for themselves. Davrin: It's a reason I joined the Grey Wardens. Guess I needed that purpose again. The shared fight.
him discussing his time away from his clan and comparing his experiences with Bellara both as Dalish elves and as Grey Warden and Veil Jumper and bonding over their different perspectives and the things they have in common...
Tumblr media
Davrin: I'll always be Dalish. That'll never change. The sight of an aravel still brings back memories.
also interesting they have him specifically say "I don't regret the life I've lived" when Bellara asks if he misses his clan (considering the entire game is about regrets), but he does remark that he wishes he could "do both." (why can't he? is he not still serving his clan as a Grey Warden? this game loves its false dichotomies. however, i do think this is just what he personally thinks, we just never get to ask him) he also goes on to say this:
Tumblr media
Davrin: The thing about being Dalish-- I needed to see the rest of the world to understand why the Dalish part of it was so special.
compare that with his dialogue with Taash, where he just complains about the Dalish "doing the same thing all the time just because it was tradition." they also go back and forth and complain about the lessons they had to take as kids (Taash complaining about their Qunari lessons, Davrin complaining about the elves "always talking about the past." they love saying this about the specifically indigenous-coded elves lol) however, when he mentions honoring the hunt, Taash counters this and says it sounds interesting, and Davrin ends the dialogue by remarking "I didn't say I was the brightest kid."
back with Bellara, he then talks about what he took for granted before leaving, ominously states it was "...different," (since he is one of the few characters that actually brings up the discrimination elves face and comments about how the gods will make it worse and also lays into Solas about it, i assume that may be what he's vaguely referring to here), and then you get the dialogue about him joining the Grey Wardens— the world wasn’t what he thought it would be, and he needed to see good in people and have that shared purpose again... and perhaps he also wanted to find a place that wouldn't look down on him for being Dalish.
you get the barest slivers of this when you talk to him after Weisshaupt (before his quest pivots to just focusing on Assan) but this banter gives you so much more insight-- he talks about his purpose as a sharpened blade striking true, but it's also this shared fight with his fellow Grey Wardens that means so much to him... except they're all dead now, and he's not. he killed the archdemon, but he's still here, and they're not..... he also seems to carry some guilt about leaving his clan, implying that he "rejected them," and now he feels that he can never go back; i wish this was something we could discuss with him, considering he can potentially leave the griffons with the Dalish. Eldrin lives separately from the clan, but i think that could have been an interesting conversation, and also play a part in Davrin's grief after Weisshaupt (he feels like he can never go back to his clan, and now he doesn't even have Weisshaupt to go back to, either).

Dear online sellers of vintage gloves: if the gloves are colored (brown, in this case) and shorter than elbow-length*, they are not "formal!" They are ordinary daytime gloves! Yes, EVEN if they have "fancy" stitching on them! They are not "formal" AT ALL! And they are definitely, DEFINITELY NOT "opera" gloves. What are you TALKING about?
*I'm talking about gloves intended for ladies here. Formal gloves for gentlemen ARE still wrist-length, as they are wearing long sleeves. But they still wouldn't be colored though.

For the @ficwip word of the week: clean.
Someone had cleaned up the blood, Ted noticed. He thought about that a lot, how someone had to clean up the blood. No one thought about that. Until you needed to think about it. Until you needed to clean the blood up yourself.
Roy didn’t look at him. Ted didn’t blame him. Jamie and Roy had gotten closer since the latter started doing his extra training with Jamie. Ted worried about Jamie’s well-being with it, especially when he caught him asleep in his locker days after the West Ham match, but Roy had not minced words when he told him to fudge off, so that was the end of that.
Ted wasn’t doing a lot of managing these days anyway. Roy had Jamie. The rest of the team followed Zava like he was about to serve Flavor Aid, and Ted, well Ted was just there.
And now he was here, in a Brighton hospital with a concussed Jamie Tartt and an even angrier than normal Roy Kent.

For some reason I really want to write a fanfic in which Reigen, Serizawa and Dimple go to Rio de Janeiro out of all places to solve a weirdly complicated case (maybe the Black Opala urban legend). The client paid for all trip expenses so why not have some fun while they're there?? There is so much comedy potential in there with linguistic differences and cultural clashes. Spirits and Such's international travel...

False Light Spoilers:
As per usual, don't read if you don't want spoilers...
“Not all of us are here unwillingly.” The older woman smiled as she took a ladle of the soup like substance in the huge, hot bowl and tipped it into a waterskin, “We chose to join the game.”
--
“Why would you help me?”
“Why?” Honda felt like a small child, but he couldn’t help but be curious.
“Something I’m not sure the Tomb Keepers are aware of, is that the seal? It’s not whole anymore. There’s tears in it where people have either tried to access the power, or shove something into the darkness. Tears that have needed constant watching and rituals to avoid the Shadows escaping.”
“Shit…”
“Language.” She scolded good humoredly, “But I can understand the sentiment. I come from a village above one of the rifts, and well…”
“It went wrong?”
“Oh, far from it, at least when it was mine and my sister’s turn.”
“Your sister’s here too?”
“No, no.” The woman gave a sad smile as her hands lit up with a blue glow and she cupped the hot bag of liquid, “My sister lived a good while after our turn came up, but she was a part of why I’m here. Our ritual required twins, you see. One incredibly powerful soul, split into two people, not unlike the royal twins.”
Honda nodded, thinking about the way Yugi and Sakhmet considered themselves twins, and what they could be when working as one.
“To keep the rift sealed, I was raised to believe my duty was to die, while my sister’s duty was to end my life."
“You’re serious?” Shock was etched in every fiber of his being. “Why would she WANT to?”
“Now now, she hated it, hated that she was the younger, so she had to be the one to send me here, but we didn’t really have a choice.” She scolded as steam rose off the bag, suggesting it was rapidly cooling.
“You see, the duty of the elder was to come over to this side and hold the gate closed, while the younger, the Remaining, who got marked by the crimson butterfly, became whole and gained access to the power that had been divided. They were supposed to stay in the village and use that power to become a shield against the Shadows on that side, and my sister did that for a decade or two, but I can’t really blame her for falling in love. I met the boy when he got caught up in a Shadow Game and well, I’d have run away with him too. Plus, their granddaughter is an absolute sweetheart.”
She shrugged, but Honda was livid on her behalf. “She killed you, then ran away?”
“Don’t worry. I’ll get my freedom too, one day.” The woman grinned at him, “I held the doors as long as I could, and the last Maiden who was supposed to hold the doors closed decided to go back through the gate and destroy our home instead, because her sister refused to take her place in the ritual, so if my sister hadn’t run, she’d have ended up like the others.”
The lack of venom in the woman’s voice calmed Honda a little, “What happened to that rift?”
“It was drowned under a lake, along with the whole village and became a reservoir.” The woman shrugged, “I have to say, it’s been nice to get some fresh water occasionally, even if I worry about the amount that’s wasted every time some fool thinks they can escape that way, forgetting they need to breathe once they’re in the living world.”
Honda blinked, considered how much water was in a reservoir that they would have to swim through, and shuddered
“Besides, I just have to wait for the Final Sacrifice. The last act that will seal the doors forever. That’s not that far off now. After that, everyone will be free to leave and head into the afterlife, and I’m far from the first Maiden. I’ve not waited that long.”
“So, you joined the game to make sure you got to leave?”
“Well, the Final Sacrifice can’t happen if Anubis kills the younger twin, can it?”
Honda’s eyes widened.
“Not a word to the little Pharaoh though, or she’ll balk and it won’t happen.”
“But Sa…”
“Don’t. Say. Her. Name.” The friendly, polite tone turned sharp and angry as the woman cut him off, “Don’t say her name, don’t say the little one’s name, just keep your mouth closed. You’ll cost your friend the game and her life.”
“Sorry…”
“You couldn’t have known.” The tone changed again, back to the niceties of before, “But don’t worry, I said we get to go to the afterlife, didn’t I?”
Honda relaxed a little.
“Now,” She stood up and headed for the big tent Anubis had just left, gesturing in their direction, “Come and help me sort this out.”

non black people leave vodou the fuck alone challenge (impossible)
in the podcast she said she googled it and decided it was Legba and when i searched up what she described, literally the Baron was the first thing popping up. she also started saying all spiritual practices where the same so it mixing doesn't matter and this exactly why she's constantly being haunted by trickster spirits, i don't understand why non black people cant just leave African practices alone, it's not even a one size fits all practice on one African country.
she doesn't know there are vodou nanchons, that there's more than one type of vodou and that there are multiple Legbas but go ahead babe call yourself a manbo
claiming you respect a religion you refused to do an ounce of research on then saying black people are just hurt and thats why vodou is closed is actually laughable, while claiming she has connections to African deities
i dont even understand how you can make an episode about vodou by someone who doesn't practice it, she's respected every other practice and brought in actual people from those cultures. why is it so fucking hard for yall to just respect black culture
