It was really windy yesterday and while I was waiting for the bus, the wind blew this leaf across the pavement. It scooted along in a way that reminded me of a horseshoe crab, and I realized that would actually make for a really neat fakemon design.

Was thinking bug/grass, or bug/ground for this fella.

Squirmeon (Bug/Ground)

#??? - On rare occasion, an Eevee can be affected by more than one environmental factor, and reacts to grow into a new, rare evolution. Eevee who spend much of their time underground, searching for bugs and earth to eat, may evolve into the Bug/Ground-type Squirmeon. Excellent diggers and burrowers, these Eeveelutions travel where ever soil is moist and laden in minerals. When they move on to a new area, they leave behind enriched soil and a labrinth of tunnels that other Pokemon like to inhabit. Squirmeon spend the majority of their time underground, resulting in poor eyesight; however, their highly sensitive skin detects even the slightest ground vibrations, enabling them to navigate without issue. To stay healthy, they must keep their skin's thin film moist; if it dries out, they become unwell and must burrow back into the earth. Their diet consists mostly of soil and decayed vegetation. They will store nutrients and minerals in the rubbery sections of their tail and body, which they can draw upon in times of need. Though these easygoing Pokémon make excellent companions, Squirmeon are hard to find due to their underground lifestyle. Trainers who aim to evolve their Eevee into this Bug/Ground-type must encourage their Eevee to dig and consume mineral-rich soil.

A new pair of FAEMON ARE HERE! This time around we have a couple based on Fireflies! More precisely, based on Lamprohiza splendidula, found in Germany, where it's known as "Kleiner Leuchtkäfer" (translates to "Little Glowbug").

Little Glowbugs have a rather short lifespan compared to other Fireflies, especially the males only live for about a week and are unable to eat. They put the vast majority of their energy into their light to communicate and attract females. This, together with their appearance inspired the idea of a ghost/undead firefly. What's unique about their appearance is their see-through head-shield, which from underneath looks a bit like the collar of a coat:

Females (bottom right) can glow too, actually far more prominent than the males! Their white larvae body reminded me of a frill dress, and the idea of a Mask ball-themed duo was born!

These designs were so much fun to work on, I hope you enjoy them as well!! :D I MIGHT design a first stage baby for them one day, but for now I'm happy to share these two as the enchanted couple they are!

Finally Finished the PARALOUSE line, even expanded it a little

Im trying a new format here, do you like it this way or do you prefer the old one?

Like this, without the Dex information in the pic (Shiny versions as example)

PARALOUSE is based on the tongue-eating louse (Cymothoa exigua) who gets inside the mouth of fish and replaces their tongues

PARALOUSE can evolve by taking over one of 2 pokemon, either SQUAKER, a parrotfish pokemon, or AGUAVEILA, a jellyfish pokemon

SQUAKER is based on the Steephead Parrotfish, its regular colors are based on the Scarlet Macaw and its shiny colors are based on the Galah Cockatoo

AGUAVEILA is based on the Deepstaria Enigmatica, a type of jellyfish known to form simbiotic relationships with a type of isopod

When paired with SQUAKER, PARALAOUSE will evolve into PARASCYLLA, this pokemon is based on mermaids and the greek monster Scylla, a creature with the upper body of a woman but a lower body comprised of heads and tails

If paired with AGUAVEILA, PARALOUSE will evolve into PARANYGMA, this pokemon is based in many legends of ghost brides who died at sea

SQUAQUER alone evolves into PARROTEER, they are PARASCYLLA's natura predator and are based on the Humphead Parrotfish mixed with pirates, its regular colors are based on the Dracula Parrot while its shiny colors are based on the Blue and Gold Macaw

AGUAVEILA alone evolves into AEROVELLA, this pokemon is based on the Atmospheric Jellyfish, a type of cryptid

Rigipod sustains itself on rotting wood and leaf litter. Though it possesses little offensive capability, its tough shell makes it nigh impossible to crush.

I'm not a competitive player, but I did my best to balance this fakemon fairly and not make it too broken. Feel free to give feedback if you have any thoughts!

I have a huge bias for Bug Pokemon since they're my favorite type, and at first I wanted to make it Bug/Ice, since any intervebrate could be tossed into the 'Bug' typing. But ultimately I decided to keep xeeble's original idea of Ice/Fairy. There's precedent of food-themed pokemon being Fairy type, and Ice/Fairy would be very interesting due to its rarity (only Alolan Ninetails has it). Its type weaknesses are also slightly easier to handle than Bug/Ice imo

The signature move is indeed based on real love darts, I could not resist something that fascinating being made into a Pokemon move, even if the real games may possibly shy away from the idea. (Honestly it could be argued "Love Dart" is based on Cupid's arrow so Gamefreak might actually get away with making a move like this though.) Its effectiveness on both males and females is a nod to snails/slugs being biological hermaphrodites. I can see this move also being learned by Gastrodon and Magcargo in Scarlet/Violet

the funny thing about doing these recent pen drawings is that i'm accidentally reminding myself of skills i have that just haven't been commonly used in a while. like, oh yeah! i can make a cool twisted hallway if i want to.

fun fact: i used to be super into optical illusions, and back in middle school, i did a bunch of studies of M.C. Escher's art. i loved how he played with perspective. i ambitiously recreated House of Stairs on a big piece of paper, and i was so proud of myself for figuring out the underlying methods of the perspectives he used for that piece.

i lost my drawing after that school year (or maybe they just didn't give it back to me after i turned it in for the assignment...?), but here's Escher's version. and it even has weird bug lizard things!

FAEMON DEX - ORCOLOGNE

HEEEERE comes a new FAEMON! Orcologne is based on orchid bees, of which there are a MULTITUDE of species to be found in South America! What's special about this family of bees, aside of their shiny exterior, is the fact that the males have uniquely modified legs to store esters in, which are basically the chemical compounds of fragrences of flowers such as orchids.

So in the same fashion as the real thing, male Orcolognes collect and create their own unique fragrances to impress females with. Just that the Faemon has a LITERAL vial of self-made perfume attached to its legs 😂
