I was talking with @themousefromfantasyland about the French cartoon from 1995 "Il était une fois..." (Once upon a time...).

Do you remember it? Probably not because the few posts I started to make about it were completely ignored. To recap what I previously said, this short-lived cartoon was a "concept-creation". An anthology of fairytale adaptations - each episode a short animation centered around a fairytale, each episode made by a different artist or animator. This cartoon was made to highlight several of the big names and famous creators of BD (comic books) of France in the 90s. Plus, on top of each episode being done in a different style, the rule of the series was that each episode had to twist or re-adapt the original fairytale. It could mean changing the story's outcome, or changing the time-period and location of the tale, or even just completely parodying it all.

This series is, as a result, very unequal with some episodes very interestings, other boring ; some aged very well, others not so much... But it exists, you know, and it is part of the history of fairytales in modern-day France.

Now the show is fully disponible on Youtube with Portuguese subtitles and I was wondering why... Turns out, because the show apparently aired in Brazil! And from what I learned, it apparently traumatized an entire generation of kids or so, the weird animation, strange stories and bizarre parodies definitively not meant for kids leaving the poor audience scared and filled with nightmares...

There is a Brazilian fairytale called Dona Labismina or Why the Sea Moans and is like a Brazilian version of Cinderella. I wonder how you will adapt it into the DisneyVerse. I really want Disney to make a movie about Brazil with human characters. Ahhh very cool! Its very similar to the Catskin version of Cinderella. That was too bad about the Sea Monster in the end though. If I were to adapt it they would definitely get a happy ending, though I suppose that might spoil the title x)

Disney should definitely branch out and do more actual Fairytales based in traditiona outside of just the western ones!

So next time he wants a swim he brings his gun with him and just shoots the Yara when she tries her seductive drowning routine.

(this has no effect whatsoever, but luckily for him, earlier on his girlfriend sung her own song into a seashell for him, because she knew about the Yara's habits of preying on male-fiances and didn't want that to happen to her man. So Alonzo pulls the seashell out of his pocket and listens to Julia's song instead of the Yara's, which causes the Yara to just give up and leave. The end)

franco colapinto has a good race. even though in qatar through no fault of his own was he involved in an unfortunate collision, the fact that he had three crashes in two races (although i really think that brazil and its extreme conditions allow for a slightly more forgiving assessment of his performance) is not improving his chances of being on the grid next year. or ever again, really. the f1 community likes to have a recency bias, and a tendency to demand perfection immediately, allowing no room for improvement. these factors are pointing towards an exit sign and i can only hope that even if he doesn't finish abu dhabi with a bang (a good type of bang, please. one with points perhaps. definitely one that lacks anything to do with walls or gravels or broken cars), the prospects of utilizing the insane south american market that he has behind him is enticing enough for a team to still consider him.

bottas has a good race. and by that i mean points. unlikely, i know but delusions and hope keep people happy.

we have a good fight for p2 in the driver standings and for the constructors championship win. i need the mclaren and ferrari girls to fight fight.

kmag throws out any remaining fucks that he could give – it is his last race after all – and wrecks havoc. god bless.

I love me some mythology and history of these fantastical creatures. I do enjoy the movie approach and filmography of the werewolf history. (Even though you skipped shapeshifters from ❤️💀🤖) but I wanted to add to the cryptozoological side of it even if I’m a bit amateurish of the study.

Let’s dive in

Though early origins to the term of lycanthropy dating back to Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece via Latin language, humans that transform into dog like hybrids is a universal concept that can be found all over the world from Europe to South Asia!

As was our human way to explain what wasn’t yet known scientifically of modern times, for the civilizations who came before us, strangeness in people from neurological to physical abnormalities were thought to be otherworldly!

A rare mutation but oldest documented instance is when the hair on the body grow longer than what is “normal” leading to top to bottom fully covered in hair people: Hypertrichosis. Which is where the image of transformation came from or at least hypothesized to have been the origins of. Then there’s the actual clinically diagnosis of “clinical lycanthropy” which is when someone who has this believes they are in fact a werewolf.

I’m shook that no one mentioned the werewolves from the Halloween anthology film “Trick or Treat” or “the wolf among us” which was about the big bad wolf being a detective in a modern setting with fairytales and murder! Or the other red riding hood movie! “Red Riding Hood” (2011); with really good color story of mostly black and white scenery and striking red from our leading lady!

Ohmygod I nearly forgot that Pokémon even has a werewolf pokemon!

AITA for yelling at my uncle for wanting to emmigrate?

For context: I am from Brazil. São Paulo city, more specifically. Brazil is considered dangerous due to high crime rates, and my city, with over 11 MILLION habitants, is no exception. But socioeconomic segregation is pretty intense here, and if you're in a "good" class neighborhood and have a little bit of streetsmarts, you will be mostly safe. I for one have been lucky enough to be born into a middle class family and have never been so much as pickpocketed, but I know of lower income friends who have been robbed. It's still rare in our circle.

Now, I have this uncle. Him and his wife have even more money than my family – they lead a very, very comfortable life with yearly trips to Disney parks, something that's very common among Brazilian upper class. And they recently have decided they want to migrate to Florida, US, seemingly out of nowhere. Their main excuse is that they don't want to raise their 7 year old son in a "dangerous place", when they live in a safe appartment complex and they've never even been robbed.

I voiced my concerns to my uncle. I was afraid that they wouldn't be well received by a country that has such extreme anti-immigration policies, especially when none of them can speak more than a few words of english and, while his wife is white, my uncle is visibly latino. Even if they get the papers right and migrate legally, they will still face a whole lot of prejudice. Plus, they would have to quit their jobs for that, and while they both have degrees, I still think it would be quite hard for two immigrants who barely speak the language to get jobs to keep their lifestyle, and I'm not sure if that's the best way to raise a young child. It really seems to me like they're persuing a fairytale idealized dream.

But the worst part is the entire thing with my grandmother. She's in her late 70s, very emotionally frail and has had a fair share of health issues. Ever since her dog passed months ago she's been severely depressed, and because she couldn't leave the house due to the dog's separation anxiety, she doesn't have any friends and has almost no hobbies. Her favorite thing is having us over – especially my uncle's son, her youngest granchild. So of course when my uncle tried to gloss over all my points I had to bring up how terrible it would be for my grandma (he knows it will be bad, he's keeping it a secret from her because he thinks she could possibly fall ill again). But he still didn't listen.

I was so angry I started yelling at him. I brought up how he didn't even visit his mother the last time she was hospitalized (she was anaemic and could have died) but he had all the time in the world to go to Disneyland whenever he pleased and said he doesn't really care about his mom or his child, that's why he's leaving. He's just falling for his wife's Disney obsession.

Looking back on it, I think I might have taken it too far, but I meant everything I said. AITA?

🌟 F1 Brazil GP 2024: The Unlikely Fairytale 🌟

So, picture this: the Brazil GP kicks off, and everyone’s thinking it’s just another day in the office for Max Verstappen. But NOPE! He starts from P17 because apparently, someone thought the grid was a suggestion rather than a rule. 😅

Meanwhile, we’ve got the Alpine duo, Gasly and Ocon, somehow managing to dodge all the chaos and actually find themselves on the podium. Like, did they just drive in a separate dimension where the laws of physics don’t apply? 🚀✨

Max, channeling his inner superhero, zooms past everyone like he’s in a video game with cheat codes. By the time he hits P1, the commentators are having a meltdown, and I’m just sitting here like, “Did I accidentally switch to the highlights reel?” 😂

At this point, I’m convinced the Alpine team is secretly practicing for a sequel to Fast & Furious because they pulled off that podium like it was the easiest thing in the world. “Family” has never looked so good in blue! 💙🍾

Huh... I just discovered there was a recent French book that is a Hansel and Gretel retelling... that takes place in Brazil and is called "Hansel and Gretel and Saci Pererê"

The story is that Hansel and Gretel are now children of a gold-searcher living in Brazil... One day as the hungry children wander in the woods they meet the Saci Pererê, who decides to takes them on a magical adventure through time, to discover several of the great historical figures of Brazil - with food and sweets being a running theme unifying the whole book... At least that's what the back cover says.

Hi, I wanted to post this as a reply, but replies are restricted, so I’m doing it here lol, but in regards to an anon you got talking about travis being a red flag, and his social circle consisting of violent men with tempers, one of which has already sexually assaulted someone, and how he could easily do that to taylor, I saw a tiktok the other day of a girl filming the crowd midway through an eras tour concert with the caption “imagine if women could feel as safe everywhere as they feel during a Taylor Swift concert” and just……

That may have been true once upon a time, like when she was with joe for example, but now that she’s with travis and associating herself with people like jackson mahomes (or whatever than POS’s name is), I feel like it’s going to slowly convince a lot of younger girls that a boyfriend with travis’s behaviour is ok, that a friend group with men like jackson mahomes is ok, that literal SA and violent outbursts (like travis displayed against his coach during the superbowl) are ok.

Women aren’t going to feel safe in taylor-adjacent places anymore, because Taylor is essentially showing them that this sort of behaviour is not only ok, but something to wish for in a boyfriend.

He’s a REAL man! He plays sports! He’s not violent, he’s just passionate! Those tweets of his? He was just being goofy! He didn’t mean it! “Just because his friend did something, that doesn’t mean HE’S like that!” (Spoiler alert, it does. I had an ex who was friends with a guy that was openly racist, and whilst my ex never said anything super obviously racist, he also never called out his friends racism, even when my jaw was on the floor after some of the stuff he said). It sounds dramatic, but it’s a slippery slope.

Just look at how many young girls were essentially groomed to be groomed by all these teen drama shows featuring scandalous affairs between teachers and their students back in the 2010’s. Those relationships were shown to be something to aspire to, not for the danger they really were, and young fans dismissing travis and his friends behaviour just because Taylor is ok with it gives me the same vibes.

(Also I’m pretty sure the poor girl that died during one of the Brazil concerts didn’t feel “as safe as women feel during a taylor swift concert”, but hey, what do I know?)

one of the many reasons i hate pop feminism is exactly that - young women and girls are told by grown women that men like travis are acktually so great and wonderful and his relationship with taylor is the model relationship just because they like her/her music, and then these young women and girls will go on to try and actually emulate it. they're also straight up just told by taylor herself. what kind of icon and role model purposely dates an abusive man as publicly as possible, while hanging out with and supporting his friends who have sexually assaulted women? the dangerous culture swifties have disguised as feminism all to follow in their idol's footsteps is incredibly toxic and unsafe for women. she's no one a woman should be looking to for a healthy anything. i've seen firsthand what it looks like to date someone like travis or jackass mahomes. it's not romantic, it's not a fairytale, and it's not love.
