Summary:

Draco Malfoy, blacksmith, is renowned through the magical world for his skill and exquisite creations. He could quite easily spend the rest of his days making pretty trinkets for the fae court, and being handsomely rewarded for the privilege. But why take the easy route when instead he could get involved in a dangerous mission with Unspeakable Harry Potter (who also happens to be Draco's... well, he's something, isn't he? A little story about learning to strike while the iron is hot.

Hiiiiiii, I am a bit behind schedule, but I’m still here!! And it’s all Tacky’s fault to be honest, whole of my fic part of brain was taken hostage by their newest WIP First Watch of Night. Go and check it out so you can understand my poor brain’s state of mind.

Anyway! For today’s (eee 3 days ago's? 😇) prompt I have chosen another one of Tacky’s stories, which I have inhaled some time ago and which hasn’t left my (poor, poor) brain since. I was a bit hesitant about Teddy’s involvement before I started it and after, well... I have been converted to Drarry + Teddy triad forever. It has been my obsession from this very day :D

I love a good competent boys fic and competent craftsman is even better. And here, all three of them tick the box in their own way. I love the striking difference between Harry and Draco who are mature and more down-to-earth while Teddy is boisterous, fearless (in an afraid-but-still-does-it way). With a hint of ignorance even, typical for his age and so like Harry whe he was his age.

Long story short, Draco makes a sword for Teddy, at Harry’s request. The way the creation process is thought of and described is magical all in itself. My favourtie part is, of course, that it demands the magical involvement of all three of them. Not to mention all the flower symbolism for which I have a special soft place in my heart:

„Lupin flowerheads, of course. Yarrow for protection, and courage. Sunflowers—a bit on the nose, Draco thought, but they didn’t have to be subtle about this. Celandine too, for escape, Draco reciting the names and meaning of each blossom as they took it in turns to drop them into the dark water.”

„(...) azaleas for homesickness and the desire to return to a place of safety, yellow roses for family. Not to mention all the runework they had spent hours working on. Draco rolled his eyes at them. Othala. Harry had traced it over and over in the water, and then Draco had hammered the essence of it into the metal with his sweat and his fire. Homecoming.”

Not to mention the sword has the wolf’s head pommel, contains grains of stag horn and Remus’s wedding band. The blade’s name is Lux and it’s a she, PLEASE SOMEONE DRAW IT.

The very idea of why they need the sword is a fandom special, lots of us masterminding about this particular mystery. Reading this text, I thought this mission could actually work. Such a smart idea! I don’t want to spoil the details, so you’ll have to go and read it for yourself to find out :D PLUS, I love the symbollism of Teddy going into this mission with vital artifacts from both Harry and Draco. It gives the protection sentiment - I would personally love to palpably have something from the man (men xd) I love, were I to leave for whatever reason. It would provide reassurance, I think, without them even being one-of-a-kind magical artifacts.

Anyway, if producing and sharing something for protection of your loved ones is not the very definition of romantic, then I really don’t know what is 😅

Spoilers under the cut with some of my favourite quotes, mainly revolving around the H/D+T dynamics. There’s a lot, so think hard about reading on, maybe it’s just better to go ahead and have a quick read, it’s 10k after all, and what’s that for us, professional readers 😂

OKAY NOW ONTO MY YAPPING AND SPITBALLING BELOW THE CUT

first of all the CLOAK. the cloak is actually a necessity. it's a type of padded armor made of thick pressed wool tightly pressed together. not only is it warm, but the way the fibers connect together and work is that it stops piercing blows from swords. it even could stop very early bullets! (not modern day). from what i can tell, this was generally worn over the rest of somebody's armor? it also wasn't exclusively armor. shepherds and whatnot also used it to keep warm, and shield themselves from wind. generally there shouldn't be a hood, but i really wanted the hood. a little feature that stuck w the armor and apparel of briar valley soldiers through the centuries (because general lilia has a hood but no cape/cloak)

it's originated in the caucasus mountains, and is called a nabadi or burka. it was generally made from sheep wool (according to wikipedia, karakul wool which is central asian in origin). it is also a style of clothing customary of males in the caucausus region at that time. at some point, around the 18th century, russia appropriated it and made it apart of their armor (which is why it is also called a burka). you can learn more about the nabadi and padded armor in general here.

something i like to do is put little aspects of myself or my heritage into my characters, which is what i did here lol. i'm half kurdish and according to my father we (as in my clan i think) originated from the caucasus mountains and descended down to where we lived in the middle east (obligatory rip kurdistan).

i thought this form of armor would be quite suitable for emil, because not only does briar valley seem to be a very mountainous region (and mountains are COLD. also from what i can tell briar valley seems to be located quite up north so. extra cold.) additionally, some of the briar valley names just feel a bit. russian. if u will. such as lilia, zigvolt (ignoring the fact they immigrated), vanrouge, etc. also russia and the caucasus region in general? in asia. close to the middle east. which is also mostly in asia. sebek coming from an egyptian god and baul sounding a lot like baal. ik real world geography has no bearing on the cultural influences of the countries in twst, and it's more generally mashing a mix of cultures together, but it makes sense in my head.

so the cloak? 100% an essential and totally canonical to the briar valley region. (i did not expect to brainrot so hard on this part oh my god.)

Fanfics, oh my beloved fanfics. Be prepared because I read this back and there's a LOT of rambling about my various special interests 😅

So usually it depends what I'm hyperfocusing on, and I read fanfics from that fandom! So like, I had a MASSIVE marauders phase (idk if it's a phase or not because I still love them with all my heart) and my wolfstar, rosekiller and jily/sunflower fic list HUGEEE I was reading fic after fic after fic. I also had uhhh (idk if it's safe to say it here) a strange drarry phase where I read TONS of drarry fics, I mean TONS, but also lots of domestic ronmione (my comfort ship icl) Ninjago fics are always awesome, the ship ones and the non ship ones (i read a lot of Lloyd centric fics because I love him to bits he's my man and also I love his mom-dynamic with the kids in dragon rising) Rn, my marvel phase is circulating in my brain, me and my sister are watching Loki together and I was on the hunt for lokius fics (side note if you have any marvel fic recs lmk) ANYWAYSS I'M GETTING off topic again 😅

Genre wise, it depends on my mood. Sometimes I wanna read about my favorite ships being cute and baking cookies and being domestic (ughhhh domestic fluff my absolute BELOVED) and sometimes I want ACTION AND CHAOS AND MUAHAHHAH (sorry I've had sugar today) , I only even read x reader on tumblr and if it's written well (shout out to my lovely friend Katy @/the-kr8tor who writes beautiful Hobie Brown spiderverse fics)

Au wise, I love a good old soulmate au, coffee shop aus, a while back in my maze runner hyperfocus I came across a user on ao3 who had THE BEST newtmas fics omggg and they had a load of aus anyway I'm off topic again, love a good royalty au, a pirate au, a fae au (wow I suppose fantasy really is my thing). I especially love any au that has a VERY specific theme to it.

In terms of my hogwarts legacy characters, I have a few aus that I mentally prepared including an ice skater au featuring hockey player! James and a royalty au featuring pirate!James. So my ADHD works overtime when it comes to fan content 😭

i read this on ao3 few months ago if im not mistaken. it's a compilation of one-shot drarry stories, like chapter one plot a, chapter 2 is plot b, and such. i think it only has less than 5 chapters. i can't exactly remember the title, but i know that one story includes draco being a (water?) fae who's an outcast due to his looks (you know that typical blonde bombshell with big tits and pouty lips) and no one wants to mate with him, he's hanging around in the pond when all of the sudden harry took him home and claimed him then time passed he became a bit accustomed with muggle life, but only staying home wearing skimpy clothes requested by harry.

another story in this compilation is that harry is a playboy, and him and draco had something in the past but draco left because he thought harry was just playing with him due to harry's reputation. they have a child together, and draco kept him a secret. but one day when draco woke up, he saw harry patting the back of their child, like making him sleep cause he woke up in the middle of the night. they talked then proceeded to make love.

In my headcanons and posts, I will stretch canon pretty thinly. I will rewrite and redo huge chunks of what we know as the Harry Potter canon. This includes huge changes in the history, the timeline, and the ethnicities of a lot of characters (read: majority of the characters we know in my AU are now BIPOC). I do not follow any Marauders fandom headcanons nor do I consider myself part of the fandom . This means my Lilys and Jameses will have vastly different friend groups than what you're used to if you're from the Marauders fandom .

Nandhini's Legacy - my main AU and the reason why I made this blog in the first place ! This is a Harry Potter AU where the Potter family are South Indian (specifically Tamil [James] and Telugu [Lily]) and the Black family are SWANA . New elements in the story include entirely new fancasts for the entire cast, the introduction of a Magical British Museum (the new primary antagonist besides Lord Voldemort), OC siblings for characters like Harry and Pansy, and several timeline changes .

Son of Hecate Harry AU - a PJO x HP crossover AU where Harry was born to Lily and James but with the additional blood from Hecate . In this AU he was taken away from the Dursleys by a satyr and raised in Camp Half-Blood . By the time he arrives at Hogwarts, Harry has already undergone one quest and is only at the institution because of another prophecy (not Trelawney's) . He is accompanied by fellow demigods and witches Yurika Haneda (Slytherin, Hermes) and Poppy Caxton (Hufflepuff, Athena)

My Mortal Companion - the AU in which post-War, Harry retains his title as Master of Death and believes his next destiny is to be the sole Unspeakable in the Death Room since he's the "only one who could do it" . Her pelt in the morning light glowed as if made from purest gold. Liquid-dark eyes met Helena’s, and she drank in the white hair over and under the deer’s eyes, her narrow head and puppyish muzzle, the grace of her raised ears. The doe turned and leapt back the way she had come.  No way. This was the middle of a city. There were not deer here.  The trail remained in the grass, a deeper green in the angled light. The house loomed. Nothing inhabited could be that solitary. She gripped the fence. Forget the paint chips and rust and thorn-snags; if she climbed over these iron spearpoints, she could go around behind the house, see where the deer had gone.

It was a great deal like his Hogwarts memories, but this time on purpose.  “I meant that I need to get my shit under control because I already drew a wand on you once and it’s only the first week of term,” Potter said, voice harsh.

4. Oooh, tough call. In my own writing, I definitely lean towards the sage counsel type, but a good sassy sidekick is NOT to be underestimated! So I vote for sassy sidekick.
