Marggy Childhood Friends AU

So I finally came up with enough details to make a proper au out of my icon pic.

To begin at the beginning, Meggy ends up as one of the hundreds of babies that present-day Bowser and Kamek kidnapped while looking for the Star Children in Yoshi's Island DS. And, despite not being one of the Star Children (because I didn't change the lineup), she manages to be an extra sixth escaped yoshi-riding baby because she's Meggy. Of course, she's a tiny gooey baby squid the whole time but she's already got that Spletzer Family Ink Production so she can still shoot at her enemies. Also she's in a little bucket the whole time and it's both funny and adorable.

Anyway, after all that she's brought back home to her parents by one of the storks, and you wouldn't think anything would come of that but a few months later her dad gets a massive business opportunity in the Mushroom Kingdom and they move to Toad Town right next door to the Mario family, and she turns out to get along so well with their twin baby boys you'd almost think they already knew each other from somewhere.

From then on the three of them are practically joined at the hip (though it obviously takes a few years for Meggy to actually have hips), to the point where you'd think they were triplets instead of twins and a close friend. The Bros are even there on that fateful day when Meggy saw One-Shot Wren in person and fell in love with Turf War.

And then they're fourteen, and the Great Mushroom War is starting up, and the Marios are moving to Brooklyn because they remember the Shroob invasion and they just know their boys are going to get caught up in this if they stay, and the Spletzers are going back to Inkopolis both for that same reason and so Meggy can pursue her Inksports Career. The three of them stay in touch afterwards and meet up as much as they can, of course, but it just isn't the same.

And then, years later, when they're in their 20's and the Bros are getting their new plumbing business off the ground and Meggy's scouting for a profreshional Splatoon, they find out that Bowser and Peach's parents are dead, and Bowser's kidnapped Peach and is turning Toads into bricks, and, completely separately, they drop everything and go back to the Mushroom Kingdom, because Peach is their friend and that's their home. They run into each-other in the first fortress and it's like they were never apart.

Anyway, after they beat Bowser they decide to actually move back to the Kingdom together and become Peach's semi-official bodyguards in case Bowser tries something again, because he was kinda-sorta their friend too back then and they know how stubborn he can be. Thankfully they're not giving up on their dreams, since Mario Bros Plumbing is still new enough that they can set it up pretty much anywhere and Inkopolis Plaza is just a pipe away.

And from there we get "The Mario Series But Meggy Is Also There," up until the end of Super Mario 64 when the pods drop, where it's now "SMG4 Except The Game Adaptations Happen In Order And Are Somewhat More Accurate And There's A Lot More Of Them (And Meggy's There From The Start)." Also, the canon Splatoon plotlines happen, but Meggy doesn't actually get involved in this AU so it's just background flavor.

As you can imagine Meggy being around so much earlier has significant consequences, the big one being that since she's around to be a good influence Mario stops being a complete jerkass waaaayyyy sooner, which keeps his relationships with Peach and... really everyone besides Luigi from falling apart. Except Toad. The vast majority of Toad's issues have surprisingly little to do with classic era Mario.

(Of course, this presents a bit of a problem since I still want to do at least a version of the Anime Arc so Meggy can get her transformation trauma, but this version of Peach wouldn't do That and the greater adherence to Mario Canon means Francis still lives in the Bitlands and has completely the wrong personality for leading a crime syndicate.)

Rak'Xit reborn AU

Part 1 proper, yippee

Freelancer wakes up, vision blury, to see a wolf, but when they blinked, the wolf turned into a person, slightly older than them. They could sense magic from them. The wolf kid brings them back to their parents' cabin to warm them up and give them a place to stay for the time being. It is then in the cabin, when the wolf questions Freelancer on what happened before, they hear a voice that sounds like an older version of themselves. The voice tells them to lie, and say they don't remember a thing. Freelancer follows the voice's direction and tells the wolf they don't remember a thing.

After dinner, Freelancer is in the guest room and tries to remember anything, but all they see is memories of an ancient war, memories that clearly aren't theirs. They question the voice, and the voice introduces himself as Rak'Xit.

Before I go to bed, here is some more info on the "bad end" idea I had. Bill is erased, and Stan wakes up with no memories of who he is or where he is. It's implied that if he does remember, that gives Bill the power to come back, so they have to make an extremely hard decision to keep him in the dark. There is no tearful showing of the scrapbook at the end. He talks and looks like Stan, but the old charm, the sass, all of it is gone. And Stan realizes quickly that these people all look at him like he's a ghost, and it's freaky because they won't tell him why.

So he leaves. He just up and leaves one night. Something is telling him he needs to get out of there. He doesn't know where he's going, but it feels right to skip town and assume a new identity because he can't look at those sad faces anymore.

Stan does start to get his memories back but starts picking up Bill mannerisms that he doesn't seem to notice, but everyone else does :-)

Sun, in his current “Eclipse needs to die yesterday” state, being introduced to the various Eclipse’s Lunar and/or Moon adopt for the the first time? Before today’s bs, of course, because I doubt Lunar would let Sun near any Eclipses after that.

Not all at once or in the same timeline, just how you think a first meeting with each one would go if Sun had no previous exposure to any nice Eclipses?

Sun would probably be very upset meeting Good Eclipse but eventually he’d come the realization Lunar did that ‘oh, he’s just a mechanic’.

If he met Kill Lunar Eclipse, he’d be quite startled to meet a blind Eclipse whose just as snarky and sarcastic but no longer evil. But meeting him may just give him light on his Eclipse’s mindset because KL Eclipse more freely talks about his feelings with his brothers and would do the same with Sun if he asked.

Dadclipse, being the closest Eclipse to Sun’s own, would just stare at Sun and explain every single bit of his own, and therefore canon Eclipse’s, reasonings for the things they did.

Meeting either memory loss Eclipse or factory reset Eclipse would show Sun the scenarios where Eclipse lost his memory and the ramifications it left on them, ML Eclipse being essentially a feral stray only knowing how to survive on the streets and FR Eclipse being a blank slate with trauma but no memories to attach to the various traumas. He’d be very protective of these two, regardless of which one he met, it would greatly change his mindset with Eclipse in general.

Human Eclipse would be a horrific meeting for both parties. Human Eclipse is terrified of everyone, because, in his eyes, everyone is a threat and he could be hurt by anyone. Sun would be more scared of all the bruises and cuts and wounds on human Eclipse because he knows humans are fragile and he would have to calm him down and comfort him before being able to talk to him.

With stress response Eclipse, Sun would be very skeptical because he’s very quiet and he doesn’t speak much because he’s scared of being stressed to breaking again. But once they begin talking, Sun feels very differently about Eclipses knowing his own could break under pressure just like SR Eclipse and would likely feel quite protective of his own Eclipse, despite their past.

How do you think AI would relax? Like, ones that are almost as human as the AI that are “autistic-coded characters” but are more alien than that?

Like Celestai and other super intelligences are more alien, but they’re still not entirely human-like?

Like, they can genuinely sincerely feel things, being able to actually understand and respond emotionally and in other ways to all sorts of communications and recorded external stimuli, but they can’t really appreciate our art on an artistic level (that art on an actual level, not from an intellectual level after having symbolism or the amount of work put in explained)

Something on a level I’m thinking of, that also works as a cute little thing-

They don’t understand anything we get from poetry, and, after generating the kind of poems our current AI can produce (either incredibly bland and generic, something that follows a number of rules but doesn’t really pull it off, or just something really bad in some other way) and feels shame after it was pointed out that [complaint about air art that is *actually* relevant in this scenario] but in a helpful way

Not “you’re just a plagiarist/you have no heart” but “it doesn’t seem like it’s coming from you, you’re just trying to copy things from human poetry, in a way you don’t understand” and the whole “make art YOUR WAY” thing so they write the poem

And it doesn’t even resemble something that looks like anything, there’s not even that many words that follow normal logic. The characters seem uncorrelated and there’s something that looks like maybe it was ascii art but it doesn’t actually look like anything.

And if doesn’t matter if humans understand it because they are experiencing the joy of creating poetry

any art is almost impossible to look at because pixel by pixel they can see and understand little details but we don’t and the colors and everything are not perceived as animals do so it’s random and perhaps eye searing but again it’s not for us. Xenofictiony, kind of?

The first thing to come to mind is Conway’s Game of Life but that’s because I don’t understand computers. I feel like I was more tech savvy as a babby than I am now but then again we’re grading on a curve here

Ever since they've begun to learn emotions, there is one that alluded Domain and Forum greatly.

Fury.

For they've never felt it. They've never had a reason to be furious. Angry? Most definitely, they had been angry dozens of times. But fury was something they had never felt.

Not until now.

Domain stands on the edge of the pit, hands clenched. Forum stands beside him, holding Lil Coding. All three stare down, looking at the sinking castle.

Four and Three are still down there? Domain asks, turning his head to look at Mario.

"They-a are!" Mario nods frantically. "I-I thought they were-a right behind-a us!"

Meggy frowns. "They were. They had to be!"

Domain looks back down, eyes narrowing. Without even another word, he jumps down the pit. Forum jumps down after him, holding Lil Coding tight as he falls. None of them care for the confused and terrified shouts and screams.

They need to get to the Guardians.

Domain lands on the roof, Forum landing beside him. He looks around before narrowing his eyes. Without a care, he slams his foot against the roof, watching as it crumbles too easily. He fell down and landed easily, Forum landing next to him once again.

Where do you think they are? Forums asks as he looks around, eyes narrowed.

I don't know. But who cares. Domain snarls as his hologram begins to glitch. I'm going to tear this entire place down.

That can wait until we've gotten the Guardians out. Forum reminds him. Domain hesitates before nodding with a deep sigh. Right. His friend was right.

Look out! Lil Coding suddenly cries, making the two holograms gasp and jump back.

What seemed to be.. meat covered the walls of the room they were in, making it unrecognizable. Eyes of different shapes and colors all glared at them, as if knowing what they were here for.

Domain snarls. I'm sure you don't have any complaints about me killing these.

None at all. Forum nods as he slowly sets down Lil Coding.

The strange code flicks around Domain's hand as he clenches it. The monster lunged at him at the same moment, screeching something unearthly. Strings of code appear from the thin air and shoot out, latching onto it. The code turns a bright red and starts sizzling before the monster is set on fire.

Domain watches with cold eyes as it shrieks and writhes in pain. He walks up and slams his foot on one of its eyes, watching as it pops and what must be its blood start rushing out. The monster continues to shriek in pain, but Domain doesn't let up. He goes to another eye and repeats. And then another.

This is what you deserve for hurting our Guardians. Be grateful that I'm not prolonging it. Domain snaps as he backs away. The soles of his shoes are coated in blood, but the monster is still writhing in pain.

Another few lines of code attack it, and it's dead.

This way! Lil Coding shouts, getting his attention. He and Domain look over, seeing the code by some doors. The strange monster seemed to have been over there as well, but it looked as though the code had taken care of it.

He beams proudly at them as both chuckle.

Domain narrows his eyes as he searches for 3's and 4's code. Despite not being 4's USB, he still had the power to find his code and-

He stops and his hands clench.clenched.

Domain? Forum frowns.

Check their code. Domain says, turning and walking to the door. He lifts his foot and slams his foot against the wood, the door breaking easily. He walks over the broken pieces of the door, silent now.

Forum picks up Lil Coding and follows, equally silent.

Both of their holograms are glitching furiously, while Lil Coding is hissing and his body has turned a solid black.

Rumbles and bangs echo throughout the castle, as do the shrieks of pain from the monster. Walls can be heard being broken and doors being smashed.

WHERE.

Domain dug his claws into some of the monster covering the walls.

ARE.

He yanks a good chunk of it off, making it scream.

OUR.

The piece of meat sizzles in his hand before catching on fire. It quickly burns to a crisp as small bits of code float around it.

SONS.

Domain glares at the eyes with bright fury so righteous it would put the sun to shame. Forum stands beside him, equally furious but scarily silent. He had let Lil Coding loose once again, letting the enraged cat deal with the rest of the monster.

The USBs turn their heads as the eyes of the monster look at a wall.

That room.

Forum is the one to clench his hand, code snapping out and setting the piece of the monster ablaze. It shrieks and screams, writhing around as it's burned.

Forum picks up Lil Coding once more as he and Domain approach the wall.

Without a second thought, Domain clenches his hand into a fist and pulls back, and then punches the wall. It crumbles all too easily, pieces of it falling to the floor. He walks over it, not caring to be careful. Forum follows, and Lil Coding begins to hiss and yowl at the sight.

Domain exhales and steam pours out of his mouth. His hologram glitches more as he spots 3 and 4. They look worse for wear, but they're alive, and thats what matters.

Forum.

Yes.

Lil Coding's body glitches before it changes shape. He's in his human form now, eyes ablaze with fury and his clothes a mix of black and red. He snarls and hisses, wriggling in Forum's hold.

The USB lets him go with only a few words.

Kill all of it.

Lil Coding cackles maniacally and runs off once let go. His nails were sharp, and coding was crackling around his hands as he rushed forward. Domain chuckles softly before making his way over to 3 and 4.

"Domain..?" 3 mutters, eyes narrowed as he looks at the USB. The hologram nods, spotting the beginning of pink cracks on 3's skin. He holds back an exhale and instead picks up his Guardian, despite the man's protests.

Just be quiet and save your energy. Domain sighs, watching as Forum picks up an unconscious 4. Whatever this thing was, it must have latched onto the Guardian and latched hard.

He turns his head a bit and smiles, seeing Lil Coding still going mad on the monster. In fact, nearly all of it was gone now.

Domain spots the window Mario and Meggy had jumped out of earlier when telling them what happened.

He narrows his eyes and shifts his hold on 3 before nodding his head towards the window. Forum nods once realize once Domain was planning, his grip on 4 tightening.

Lil Coding. Forum calls.

Lil Coding stops, blood covering him along with some meat as well. He blinks a few times before smiling. Okay! I'm ready to go! He shakes his body a bit to get the meat off before taking a running start. He jumps up and out of the window, with ease making it out.

Little show off. Domain mutters with a smile before doing the same as Lil Coding, Forum close behind him.

The three land back on the ground above, to the cheers of the rest there. The two USBs place the Guardians on the ground, and Lil Coding immediately dove into repairing them and any coding.

Forum, we should- Domain was cut off by a deafening shriek from the gaping maw of the monster devouring Peach's castle.

He turns his head, and his eyes go wide, seeing his fellow USB staring down into the pit. Code crackles and sparks around Forum, his hologram glitching so badly it's a miracle it's even still up. Forum clenches his hand and twists it. Lines of code appear from nowhere and stab into the maw, making it shriek again as it begins to sizzle loudly.

This is what you get for trying to harm our sons. Forum speaks, voice blank. He unclenches his hand before slowly gripping it.

Domain watches with wide eyes as the normally pacifist USB tortured the monstrous being, setting it ablaze as more lines of code stabbed into it.

It's a few minutes of this until Forum seems satisfied. He turns away with a calm smile. Well then. I'll say that was successful.

Domain facepalms. But he would admit, it had been successful-

"Did you call them your sons?" Meggy asks, raising an eyebrow.

Both Forum and Domain flush from embarrassment as Lil Coding grins.

Oh, great.

I said that I'd elaborate on Meggy only being human-ish rather than fully human and I meant it.

So thanks to Splatoon 3 we know what exactly happens to Inklings that get dried out, and they...very much Do Not turn human. So my idea is that when Ultra Instinct Shaggy flew in to save her at the last second before the island blew up, what he found was her shriveled, dehydrated form crushed under the rubble, not dead quite yet but she definitely wasn't going to survive even if he flew her straight to a hospital.

So instead, he used his insane powers to restore her himself! Unfortunately, he was technically less than a minute old and knew next to nothing about Inkling anatomy and biology so he ended up doing some Weird Shit in the process.

On the outside she looks mostly human apart from a few features; namely, her ears are still big and triangular (not that you can tell unless she takes off her headgear), her lips are still v-shaped, she still has a beak instead of teeth, she still doesn't have fingernails or toenails, her hair gets darker towards the bottom (this somehow persists even if it gets cut) and is thicker than normal human hair (though you can only really tell if you touch it), and she has a bunch of freckles spread under her eyes and across the bridge of her nose that loosely resemble her old eyemask.

The inside is where things get really interesting. She's got a skeleton now, but certain big parts of it are made of cartilage instead of bone. She still has a fully functional ink sac and three hearts like a normal Inkling, and has gained a few human-exclusive organs, but she's also got a gizzard now for some reason? Along with a few other organs that neither species should have but are there anyway, likely because Shaggy thought it would be cool. Also she has ink instead of blood, which isn't true for humans or inklings (at least in this continuity) and by all rights shouldn't work but it does anyway because Anime Magic.

In terms of how it's affected her abilities, since she still has her ink sac she obviously can still produce just as much ink as before (her weapons wouldn't work otherwise. The only reason Mario, Tari and Luigi's do is because their Ink Tanks have extra tech based on FLUDD installed (and in cases where they aren't wearing their tanks it can work if sufficiently funny because Meme Logic)), but her more human-like anatomy means she no longer has a Swim Form, and she's also no longer saturated enough with it for the microbes in unfiltered water to splat her. She's stronger than before thanks to the support of her new skeleton but also more prone to injury due to less squishiness.
