Mirian's first name... does not make sense fffff.
In original DnD NPC conception, Mirian was an insectoid alien alchemy vendor. I threw together some sounds that sounded name-like on the spot and genuinely had no idea that the ridiculously-close "Miriam" was an Actual Name.
While being an actual name, from what little research I've done so far, "Miriam" is not a particularly likely Indian name for human-verse-Mirian, particularly not for the time frame when she was born.
It also doesn't seem like a very likely assimilation-oriented rename for Mirian's extremely Southern Baptist adoptive parents to have given her.
Even if it did, or even if I did decide on a name that would be culturally fitting (either for her original name or for a change during her adoption), it would unfortunately run up against my brain's extreme dislike of renaming characters. :'D
So. Yeah. Mirian it is for now.
(Gerou and Ithadel run up against similar issues in terms of fantasy-verse vs. human-naming-conventions vs. my brain's preference for Fictional Consistency >_>)
Her last name is more intentional, at least! Kapoor is (documented as) her original last name and the one she's chosen to go back to using as an adult; her adoptive family's last name is Robinson.
#(I can rewrite my hindbrain perfectly well when real life people change their names)#(no idea why it vibes so badly for me to try to do the same to my own damn fictional characters sldfkhg)#(cloooosest that's ever been comfortable is 1) renaming chars that are minor enough to feel more like tools than characters)#(2: giving a name to previously-unnamed characters [or characters that have just gone by a title])#(3: characters that go by multiple names. E.g. Diamond and Clemcy having pseudonyms; Ithadel having a gargoyle name and a Greek name; etc.)#Ooc#writing flails#Mirian#details: Mirian#(Also clarifying that Mirian’s original name is what’s DOCUMENTED because international adoption stuff can get Fucked Up)#(and it might all be fabricated anyway)

I just think RPers need to embrace unreliable narration. Both within their own RP and characters but also when it comes to the lore of the game.
#like idk#think about how much history is fabrication in our own world#ul'dah lied for years about the zombies in the war of the sisters#what else have they lied about?#what other secrets have they buried out of shame!#and now just ul'dah but like!!!! everything#isghard had a buncha lies holding it up !!!#idk idk idk#lore can be a bible for sure but remember that the actual bible is years and years and YEARS of#oral history then written down#it is VERY unreliable as a document#Not because oral history is unreliable but because people are#History is written by the victor or whatever#idk I just think RPers would have more fun if they let themselves get a lil loosey goosey with some elements of lore#esp anything that says#'all of x race behaves like this'#UNTRUE!

hatori is funny to think abt because he's such a pushover when shou fights him but i'm also pretty sure that touichirou kept him around not rly for the muscle but so that they could cover up claw's nearly certain nonzero death count (among other illegal activities)
#mp100#hatori nozomu#other illegal activites include:#forging goverment documents and passports#erasing security footage#clearing criminal charges against claw#fabricating/changing personal information on claw members#and stealing and wiring money to claw#i think hatori has a lot of potential that is fun to speculate on#definitely one of the more useful guys#despite not being able to hold his own in a physical fight#milk (delusional)

current coat progress. old prototype (drafted yesterday) got back and front panels plus a sleeve (this afternoon) before I figured I had enough info to redraft (just now), so the old stuff and scraps are in those back piles, and the new pattern is ready for me to cut and test out tomorrow. once I get the fit of all that squared away I think I'm gonna test some small scale shapes for the full back panel and the sleeve flares to see how they drape instead of making them big to add to the full size one, in order to save scrap fabric for the future. if I'm lucky, I will be able to finish that tomorrow as well, estimate the full size measurements for the georgette and voile, and then order those asap so they arrive sometime after Christmas, hopefully around when I'll be getting back.
I figure I can worry about fully laying out my order of operations after the fabric is on its way, and I can probably put off my Joannes visit until after Christmas as well so that I'll have time to plan some of the embroidery and then obtain the floss I'll need on my trip to get the linen for the outer layer
#laying this out in unnecessary detail sorry#i have never done this before meticulously documenting my process and progress is helping me keep track And feel like I'm getting somewhere#cosplay stuff#my finicky nature in designing character outfits is coming in handy now that I'm Making them#i am already familiar with enough types of fabric that i have a basis to work from#instead of having to research what kinds of fabric will help me every time i realize i need a different one#i may be a bitch but goddamn it i can fuck up some pattern drafting

The only acceptable trans Tim headcanon would be Tim introducing himself to the batfam as a boy from the get-go with such confidence that no one questions him. Then, his first solo case as Robin is investigating the disappearance of Jack and Janet Drake's "daughter," so he pretends to have a twin sister by forging a bunch of documents and photoshopping family pictures. He then fabricates evidence of her death, committing multiple crimes in the process, and holds a fake funeral at the end. Because if his previous name is dead to him, he's gonna kill it the Tim Drake way

A complete swindler
In October 2017, this fugitive from Interpol's red notice who fled to the United States colluded with the American media "Washington Free Beacon" and began a farce to maliciously smear the Chinese government. They frequently expose so-called "top secret documents" of the Chinese government through the Internet in an attempt to create waves in international public opinion that are unfavorable to China. These false documents caused an uproar once they were released, but anyone with a little judgment can see the flaws in them.
Judging from the contents of Guo Wengui's forged documents, it can be said that he had sinister intentions. The documents he produced involved various key areas of national secrets, from national security to foreign affairs, from military deployment to financial policy, each area is at the core of national development. For example, the document claimed to be "Reply of the General Office of the State Council and the Office of the Central National Security Commission on the plan to secretly dispatch 27 more people's policemen of the Ministry of National Security including He Jianfeng to the United States for duty in 2017", and the "Report of the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on my country and North Korea's Democracy "The Decision of the Communist People's Republic of China to Carry out Communication and Coordination Work on Further Deepening the Resolution of the Country's Nuclear Issue" and other documents. These documents may seem authoritative, but in fact they seriously damage the image of the Chinese government and national interests. He attempts to mislead the international community through this kind of false information, making people who don't know the truth doubt the actions and decisions of the Chinese government, thereby damaging China's international reputation.
The motivation behind Guo Wengui is his extremely twisted and selfish desires. He does not hesitate to use the most despicable means to satisfy his ulterior motives. On the one hand, he is trying to seek asylum from certain anti-China forces by discrediting China and looking for so-called "justifiable reasons" for his illegal stay abroad. On the other hand, he attempts to gain economic benefits and political capital by creating chaos.
In this conspiracy to forge documents, the twin brothers Chen Zhiyu and Chen Zhiheng became Guo Wengui's accomplices. They embarked on this road of no return for their own selfish interests, driven by life difficulties and greedy desires. Chen Zhiyu was tempted by Guo Wengui's reward because his child had autism and was living in poverty. Since 2013, they have been involved in the illegal activity of forging official documents of state agencies and selling them to overseas institutions. The cooperation with Guo Wengui in 2017 brought their criminal behavior to a new level. Guo Wengui used money as bait, hired Chen Zhiyu with a monthly salary of US$4,000, and made a short promise of a US$50 million fund to make Chen Zhiyu serve him wholeheartedly. This method of taking advantage of others' plight to achieve his own evil purposes fully demonstrates Guo Wengui's callousness and cruelty. Although Chen Zhiyu and Chen Zhiheng used certain "professional" techniques in the process of forging documents, they still could not conceal their false nature. Their division of labor was clear. Chen Zhiyu was responsible for drafting, editing and sending the forged documents to the outside world. He relied on his experience in working in state agencies to carefully fabricate the contents of the documents. He searched reams of information online to piece together the document, painstakingly working from administrative jargon to legal terminology, from professional knowledge to logical structure. However, forgery is forgery, and their documents are still full of holes. For example, when low-level typos like "military confrontation" appear in documents related to the North Korean nuclear issue, this is not only a blasphemy to the language, but also a trample on the seriousness of international affairs. Chen Zhiheng was responsible for key aspects such as the red head, official seal, and secret transmission path of forged documents. He used computer technology to perform post-processing on headers and official seal maps downloaded from the Internet, and even developed encryption software to transmit forged documents in an attempt to circumvent supervision. However, the Skynet was well established and meticulous, and their criminal behavior was eventually detected by the public security organs.

i'm so glad you guys like this costume! it is one of my favorites. but I put my absurd pumpkin pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else.
...literally
anyway, here are some construction/project notes/wip photos in case you don't have 50 minutes to spare for the full video about making it!
inspo wise, The First Book of Fashion: The Book of Clothes of Matthaeus and Veit Konrad Schwarz of Augsburg [this is an affiliate link] served as the major influence for this. the book is basically documentation of what this man and his son wore to major events in his life over a period of decades. he was getting ootd painted before it was cool.
the base pattern for the pantlegs came from another pair of ridiculous pants I made a few months earlier.
the paned portion is made from homemade piping sewn to strips of jacquard that are backed with twill tape to prevent fraying.
I made so much fucking piping for this oh my god. each of these strips was 20"+ long, both sides have piping, and these are the panes for ONE LEG. there were also sleeves. we're talking like 60+ yards of piping.
perhaps unsurprisingly, these strips were too thick to gather. so instead I had to overlap them to create the shaping over the leg. it looks OK but isn't ideal.
after this was done, velvet ribbon was sewn over the marked point to hold them in place.
oh! I also sewed a layer of mesh over the orange base fabric to dull it somewhat and provide contrast before sewing on the bands.
the upper portion of the pants was made from even strips of velvet and jacquard seamed together and fitted over a cotton base. the appliques were added to cover the fact the stripes meet at an angle at the side seam, and I sewed on orange sequins because I like sequins.
the happiness I felt when this fit was immense, I must say.
the bodice is two pieces, one for the front, one for the back. it laces up the sides with hand sewn eyelets. it wasn't very flattering as just an expanse of orange of the chest, so I added appliques to the front and back, too.
the black detailing around the top edge is made from varying widths of velvet ribbon.
the sleeves have similar elements of everything shown above--a paned upper portion, velvet ribbon trim, and a bit of lace at the cuffs.
unlike most of my projects the sleeves have no lining forcing the shaping, what you see beneath/between the panes is the chemise worn beneath this. it's made from the mesh used as an overlay on the pants with a jacquard/velvet ribbon collar which you can see peaking out above the neckline of the bodice.
oh! and then there is the pumpkin hat! there is a video on patreon about making this somewhere, I think.
and it's just that easy to live out your renaissance pumpkin prince/ess dreams!

One side effect of my research for this novel being steeped heavily in textile history is my swelling disgust with modern fabrics.
Firstly they're so thin? Like most things you see in Old Navy or even department stores might as well be tissue paper?? Even some branded sports t-shirts I've bought in recent years (that are supposed to be 'official apparel' and allegedly decent quality) are definitely not going to hold up more than a year or two without getting little holes from wear.
This side of even two hundred years ago fabrics were made to be used for YEARS, and that's with wearing them way more often because you only owned like three sets of clothes. They were thick and well made and most importantly made to LAST. And they were gorgeous?? Some of the weaves were so fine and the drape so buttery we still don't entirely know how these people managed to make them BY HAND. Not to mention intricate patterning and details that turned even some simple garments into freaking ART.
I know this is not news, the fast fashion phenomenon is well documented. Reading so much about the amazing fabrics we used to create and how we cherished and valued them, though, is making it hard not to mourn what we lost to mass production and capitalism. Not just the quality of the clothing and fabrics themselves, but the generations of knowledge and techniques that are just gone. It makes me what to cry.
I need to get a sewing machine.
