possibly controversial opinion but i think (the idea of) jimmy having internalized homophobia can exist fully separate from him assaulting anya. it is not the catalyst for it, though i think it’s an interesting concept to explore separately.

queer people can be abusive, queer people can be violent, it’s not homophobic to acknowledge this.

i would venture that it’s *more* homophobic to imply that internalized homophobia is the reason he assaulted anya and that if he was just :) a freaky young man a bisexual that everything would have gone differently.

like he’s explicitly written as a misogynistic, manipulative, self centered piece of shit who’s incapable of taking responsibility (he said it! he said the thing!) and although he is portrayed as caring the most about curly out of the cast, he still beats him, resents him and sees him as both an ideal and someone in his way.

even if there is some kind of internalized homophobia or affection for him under the surface, i don’t think it’s fair to say that that’s THE reason he’s abusive.

If you could make one permanent change to a cats replica production what would it be?

You know... kind of a simple answer, but I would want modern productions to include the Alonzo shadowdance again.

I'm honestly not sure where that bit of choreo originated-- I wanted to say US Tour 5 but then I remembered that this video included it and that was a British 90s performance, so I have no clue where or when it came from off the top of my head. And I know people tend to associate the shadowdance with Demlonzo/ give it a romantic context but I like that bit a lot, regardless of what Demeter's relationship with Alonzo looks like.

I really like the ambiguity of it. Is that supposed to be Macavity's shadow, looming over Demeter as she sings about him? Is there no metaphor at hand and that's genuinely supposed to be actual Alonzo? If so, why him? Alonzo is usually cast as a dancer primarily, so it would make sense if they picked him for no other reason than the actor's skill, but it doesn't feel like a coincidence that he's involved in the Macavity fight And is something of a protector And is often the one to directly 'save' Demeter during the fight (by picking her up and carrying her off in the beginning, usually, or by prying Macavity off of her at the end in the bway revival).

idk, there's something about it, romantic or not. That Alonzo may share Demeter's fear, or may feel some kind of responsibility for her, or may be trying to share that vulnerability and anxiety. 'Bearing the burden' together, so to speak.

(It reminds me of how in Midsommar the cultpeople™ would echo dani's crying and screaming as a way to kind of share her pain and make it a community thing. That was kind of predatory at the heart of it bc it was. you know. a cult. but you know what I mean)

I also like that Alonzo is there. I've always kind of got the impression that the boys all leave the stage during this part to search for Macavity-- I don't love the implication there that none of the female cats can apparently fend for themselves and seek Mac out along with the Strong Manly Men™, (You could argue that the grown queens are all hanging back to keep an eye on the kittens and Alonzo's watching Demeter specifically but that's only a step better tbh) but if you are going to go that route it makes sense to leave someone who can defend with the girls.

(Unrelated but for similar reasons I like how in US Tour 5 you can see Pounce and Tumble* backup dancing along with the other girls: listen, if Cassandra apparently can't go out there with the Men™ and look for Macavity, then the babey boys shouldn't be able to either.

*Not actually sure if it was them: It mightve been Pounce/Tumble and Alonzo instead, but there's two boys in the backup and three options, so I'm choosing to believe it was Pounce and Tumble.)

So yes, there's a lot to dig your teeth into with that bit. It also just looks cool, and on top of all of that: I love when male cats mirror female cats, and I also love Alonzo being slutty. 🙏

Leonardo stares at Agent Bishop, glaring at the well-dressed man like it was his fault the Hamato siblings were talking over each other. They were a real headache these days, especially today.

“Last time we talked, we came to an agreement, didn’t we? You don’t show your face anywhere around my vicinity, and I stay in my place. Right?”

It wasn’t a mutual agreement and more of a threat, but hey, words are words. Words are tricky and fun like magic. What he says can be perceived another way or how he wants them to be perceived.

Agent Bishop nodded, “Of course, I remember clearly.”

“That’s great, Bishop, that’s great,” Leonardo nodded cheerfully. He was stupid to think the EPF would understand. He simply wanted to rest, have some relaxing time in a world without the Krang. Is it really that hard to achieve?

Leonardo suddenly snaps forward, no time to react with the element of surprise on his side. He grabs a handful of Agent Bishop's collar and pulls the agent up close. “Then why the fuck did I have five of your guys tailing me?”

Agent Bishop hardens his stare despite his shaking hands gripping the table. “I believe we were scoping the vicinity of those around you and not you yourself.”

“Same fucking thing,” Leonardo spits back.

Agent Bishop swallows nervously as he explains, “Your… suggestions were deemed matters to be taken into account. We decided that keeping a close eye on your familiars is the best option in securing humanity’s safety.”

‘Humanity’s safety?’

“How ironic.”

So his family has been targeted because they’re considered threats to the world? The same family that saved the fucking world months ago? The same family that nearly died saving a world that didn’t know they existed?

“‘Safety.’ For your safety, huh?” Leonardo repeated before slamming Bishop face first into the table. “Did you consider your safety in the case I found out?”

“We don’t want any bad blood—,” Bishop tried to recover but Leonardo interrupts again.

“Should’ve thought of that before you decided we’re threats to humanity,” Leonardo countered. He shoves Bishop to the floor and throws open the door.

“W-Wait! Mr. Hamato, you can’t—!” Bishop calls after Leonardo but he slams the door closed.

Rhaenyra’s orders only pertained to Nettles. They never extended to Daemon. She did not “divorce” him. He could have “gone home” back to his wife if he wanted to.

Many Daemyra shippers like to claim that Daemon offed himself because Rhaenyra lost trust in him. He just couldn’t go on cause his Valyrian queen didn’t want him no anymore.

Let me clarify: this is a fanon theory that has no basis in canon. When I mean no basis I mean that it has absolutely 0 truth to it. Let’s look at the evidence shall we:

This is the passage of Fire & Blood where Rhaenyra sends out her kill orders for Nettles. Notice what’s missing? The part where Rhaenyra says she never wants to see Daemon again and is “divorcing him.” Why is it missing? Because it does not exist.

Pay close attention to the last highlighted section. Where Rhaenyra orders Nettles to be murdered in order for Daemon to be freed.

Rhaenyra believed that if she murdered Nettles whatever “spell” she cast on Daemon(because she like this fandom seem to believe that Daemon could never actually want Nettles unless to groom her or to just get his jollies off)would go away and he’d be back by her side with no conflict of interest as if it never happened.

In case that is somehow not enough evidence:

The last highlighted sentence explicitly states that Rhaenyra communicated in the letter(which Daemon read) that she did not want him harmed. She wanted Daemon alive and well.

See Rhaenyra actually needed Daemon(and his dragon) because contrary to what these stans try to say, her greatest threat was not Aemond. It was Daeron and his army:

(Mind you he was considered Rhaenyra’s greatest threat even before Ulf and Hugh betrayed her and joined up with Daeron. So even if Daemon did not know about the betrayal, which I imagine it was in the letter with Nettles' kill orders, he would know that Daeron was the biggest threat to her reign and safety).

Daemon dead or banishing him from her side would be an absolute no-go. After accusing Addam Velaryon of betraying her, Rhaenyra was down to about two dragons(Syraxes and Tyraxes) at her disposal.

(Judging by how she reacted to Joffrey trying to save his dragon during the storming of the Dragonpit, she was not going to let her son and heir go into battle on Tyraxes).

The Greens had about four full-grown dragons (even leaving out Sunfyre and Dreamfyre) on their side. Rhaenyra needed Daemon alive and whole if she wanted to win the war because without him her reign was finished.

Daemon would know this. Even if he killed Aemond he would know that Rhaenyra’s days would be numbered against the great southern army.

Does Daemon leave Maidenpool the moment that letter is in his hands to go to his wife and queen, “the love of his life,” who desperately needed him? Nope:

He reads the letter. Is in a bit of a daze cause he can’t believe what he is reading. A daze which he only comes out of it when Nettles asks him what was written in that later that had turned him so gray. It was her execution letter. He unsheathes his sword for her. Against his wife and queens orders.

He was going to fight through Lord Mooton’s men singlehandly for her. Daemon the kinslayer, the murderer of babes, unsheathes his sword for plain old dirty unwashed Nettles who no one would really miss if she were dead. No one except him.

(This is why I can not understand when people say Daemon “abused” Nettles or that he did not love her. He literally was going to give his life for hers. What is love if not sacrifice and what is the ultimate sacrifice if not giving your life so that the one you love can live?)

Now you might be thinking, well he saved Nettles, that doesn’t mean that he couldn’t go back to Rhaenyra when that business was done. So does he? Nope:

Daemon makes sure Nettles gets to safety then leaves for Harrenhal without following Rhaenyra’s orders in any capacity.

Rhaenyra overplayed her hand. She underestimated how much Daemon actually cared for Nettles. It cost her life in the end. After isolating herself by ordering all those arrests and deaths, she did not survive the year's end. Nettles would be murder helped to seal her fate because it caused her to lose the loyalty of her husband(and his dragon) who chose the woman who “bewitched” him over her.

I can not stress this enough, Daemon did not get sad cause “Nyra” did not love him no more. Rhaenyra never lost her fate in him. She blamed his “dalliance” with Nettles on spells.

She wanted him back by her side, therefore he could’ve gone back “home” at any time and the whole Nettles business would have been forgotten, but Daemon got sick of her bs, saved the woman who he loved, and bounced 🤷🏽‍♀️ He could’ve helped Rhaenyra win the war, but he chose to end it all rather than go back to her:

But that’s not popular even though it has way more canonical basis than Daemon died for Nyra.

So if it’s not true that Daemon lived, ate, sh*t for Rhaenyra until his dying day, and then offed himself cause he couldn’t take her not wanting him anymore, then why are Daemyra stans lying? Cause they don’t like that Daemon chose Nettles over Rhaenyra. A girl who should be less than their Valyrian queen.

I know you havent updated fathers and daughters (arcane fandom) in a while but the season 2 on the horizon i decided to reread and i wanted to ask if your considering a part 2 or sth cause there is so much potential there

Heya! Thanks for asking, and letting me know you reread it. It's always a pleasure to know that a work still has readers.

My current plan is to get the final chapter done and posted before October. Seems like a far away goal, but my brainrot is currently elsewhere and I work a seasonal job that means I'm in hell right now.

When I say I'd like to update before October, that means during the last 2 weeks of September, when I'll be back to having "free time". At the very least October should be Gucci, since I'm running the Arcane Visions event. No excuse to not use it to complete the fic.

Beyond that? I have no plans, no. I don't want to write a follow up, but I am ever a victim of brainrot. Maybe season 2 will grip me and I'll immediately plonk another 100k fic, maybe it won't. Maybe I'll be obsessed, but by a completely unrelated character.

I never plan these things, so there's no point making promises. Any continuation of F&D would have to be long and political, and probably couldn't use the events of season 2. F&D finishes not even 2 years after episode 3... The events of the timeskip in season 1 would already diverge massively, Silco wouldn't die, Viktor would be in the picture, etc.

Who knows. My goal right now, my one promise I can make, is to finish the final chapter and mark the fic complete.

I'm thinking so hard about Lord Eclipse and the possibilities of what's going to happen next with Ruin. Seeing the title of today's episode genuinely had me scrambling around the house to finish my chores so I could watch the episode because I missed Lord Eclipse so much.

Honestly, today's episode has me wanting a bit more. In my opinion, he's one of the most interesting characters in the show and I would love to see him and his dimension fleshed out a bit more and I would especially like to see what Servant Sun's life was like and what happened to Lunar... There's just so much that the Lord Eclipse dimension is providing and I would love it to be explored more.

As for Ruin, I want to see what happens with him. Hopefully, Solar and Moon don't go through with this with the intent of harming Ruin or demanding answers from him. I want to see some reasoning. Maybe Ruin calmly speaking about why he brought Eclipse back if he did so to prove himself, or letting the mask slip and proving that Sun and Moon failed to cure him and he had been acting all along.

I really hope that he brought back Eclipse simply to prove himself because a large part of me really doesn't want to think that Ruin was pretending to be sweet this entire time
