“Yeah, see, the Anti-Ecto Acts are even more troubling than ‘inciting war with the Realm of the Dead and all its gods’ level.” Phantom began. “It affects the living, even outside of that.”
Constantine huffed, but didn’t disagree. Bruce could only guess what he was thinking.
“At least, from what Clockwork taught me,” Phantom continued, and that made Constantine snap to attention, “ectoplasm is just kind of… There. Floating around in the background, but at such a low level that it doesn’t usually manifest. But it’s still there, and it functions kind of like radiation: just being around it might cause you to develop liminality.”
“Liminality?” Bruce asked. Phantom shrugged.
“Any side effects you would notice are only caused by high levels of exposure, nothing like this low-level radiation. But, well… Ectoplasm is both attracted to emotions and attracted by emotions. And ectoplasm heightens emotions, too. The fact that the human race has been alive so long, evolved to feel more complex emotions, it’s because the ectoplasm bonded enough with humanity to allow that. Humans achieved sentience because they could feel enough to determine they existed. Without ectoplasm, slowly those emotions will fade. And…” Phantom hesitated.
“…I can’t say that humanity will become nonsentient once again, not for sure. But I can say that you will slowly, generation by generation, lose the feelings you have now.”
#dc x dp#dp x dc#dpxdc#dcxdp#is this anything?#🤔#so yeah maybe the extremely low level of ambient ectoplasm that exists causes sentience over hundreds of thousands of years of evolution#and so the GIW’s goal is to (accidentally) erase all of humanity’s progress and turn them into unthinking unfeeling animals again#ironic? yes#satisfying? yes#ironically satisfying? YES YES YES#been in my drafts for like a month lol#along with another… maybe if I’m feeling productive I’ll finish that one later too

I hope in the next Legends game they isekai one of the Sordward/Shielbert duo so I can see people writing angst and saying stuff like “they separated him from his other half 😭” “he misses his brother 🥺” about the guys who look like this.
#pokemon#i want to see just how insane the extremely weirdly designed minor characters gamefreak can get people invested in are#also yes for the record i understand the train guys (who this is a playful jab at) were already popular before pla but#as someone who never cared about them beforehand this is what seeing their sudden explosion in popularity felt like#give me angst of THESE guys though or i’ll never be satisfied#it’d be too funny

Maybe it's a 'study finds water is wet' type of thought, but
considering it's an action movie whose overall plot is "immortal warriors Fuck Shit Up™️", I think it's significant that in The Old Guard the thing that makes Copley pull red strings through his Murder Conspiracy Board and say "[Merrick] doesn't care what [Andy]'s done with [her immortality]" is the people they save, not the ones they kill
Most of the Conspiracy Board is him circling random newspaper headlines and faces on old photographs to (more or less realistically) follow the immortals' treck through the world and big historical events. Which is, in-canon, not much different than putting portraits from different centuries next to a picture of Keanu Reeves and saying "they look the same, clearly Reeves is an immortal!"
But then there are the connections. A little girl holding Joe's hand in WW1 becoming the youngest (and first) woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize for Medicine (suck it, Kozak). Or the grandchild of a family that Andy saved from [something] helping people escape from the Khmer Rouge genocide in Cambodia.
They are warriors. They have fought and been in the midst of countless wars, major or minor, throughout history. They must have killed as many people as they saved... and yet.
It's not them taking out a random warlord or dictator or rabidly hateful politician that has tangible repercussions in history. It's the children and families they get out of war zones, save from accidents, protect from natural disasters. People to whom they give a second chance at life, and grow to change the world (or even just their own world), like a mysterious stranger once changed theirs just by holding out a hand or patching a wound.
I don't know I just think it's particularly neat
#my ponderings#the old guard#I know we all love to play the 'if you could go back in time and kill One Person who would it be' game#but I think a movie that makes it EXTREMELY SATISFYING to see the Bad Guys die -#- having 'actually the best and greatest changes happen when people help each other' as its underlying message...#it means something#I also think it connects to Andy feeling like nothing she does changes anything at the start of the movie#for 80% of her life you could Solve A Problem by Taking Out The Guy Causing The Problem#especially in battle! you kill the general and you win. if you win the Problem Is Solved#but then everything becomes More Complex. the Problems™️ are globalized and/or systemic.#and Winning a Battle means just killing people. it doesn't Stop The Problem (nor really end a war)#so it feels useless#and even when they save people... they can’t stay in people's lives for long because immortality#which means they can never know what happens to the people they save#they don't (and can't) have the full picture

batfam, cleaning up a Random Disaster: w a i t a minute…who are you?
danny, who had been in gotham for three (3) minutes before something Went Wrong: i am homeless, i am gay, i have a gov’t agency hunting me, i’m new in town 😌
batfam, already calling alfred, handing over adoption papers, fighting each other for First Civie Introduction & arguing over who will be Fav Sibling to him: you’re gonna close with “new in town”? that was not the most dramatic thing that you just said—
#dp x dc#john mulaney#danny is v satisfied w that answer yessir#also he doesn’t trust bruce on principle (the Billionaire Fruitloop Principle) but he does attach himself to the batkids#Cass gets first civvie and danny Loves His Brothers Equally & Has No Favorites (damian. reminds him of ellie & they get on like a house on#ectoplasmic fire)#jason is just. jason is both his brother and His Kid bc danny is older in ghost years and jason’s ghost tutor#imo all gothamites r low lvl liminal (batfam ranges from Very to Extremely to Jason) bc the ppl to ecto ratio is higher than amity#dc x dp#kazoo kid

One of my biggest pet peeves is the assumption that something has to be sad for it to be tragic.
I've always been a big believer of the 'Apollo has an awful love life'/'Apollo is plain unlucky with love' line of thinking but it does bother me that the general reasoning for that statement is given to the concept of 'Apollo is somehow undesireable and thus rejected' (Cassandra/Daphne/Marpessa) or 'his lovers die young and thus their love is unfulfilled' (Cyparissus/Hyacinthus/Coronis). I personally think that's a very unfortunate way of looking at things - not only because it neglects the many perfectly cordial entanglements and affairs Apollo has had, both mortal and divine - but because it presents a very shallow interpretation of the concepts of love and loss and how loss affects people.
Apollo can still grieve lovers that have a long, healthy life. The inherent tragedy of an immortal who knows his lovers and children will die and cannot stop it does not stop being tragic simply because those lovers and children live long, fulfilled lives. The inherent tragedy of loss does not stop being tragic simply because someone knows better than to mourn something that was always going to end.
What is tragic is not that Apollo loves and loses but that loss itself follows him. Apollo does not love with the distance of an immortal, he does not have affairs and then leaves never to listen to their prayers again. He does not have offspring and then abandon them to their trials only to appear when it is time to lead them to their destinies. He raises his young, he protects the mothers of his children, he blesses the households that have his favour and multiplies their flocks that they may never go hungry. He educates his sons, he adorns his daughters and even in wrath he is quick to come to his senses and regret the punishments he doles out.
Apollo loves. And like mortals, there will always be some part of him that wishes to protect the objects of his affections. Apollo, however, is also an emissary of Fate. He knows that the fate of all mortal things is death. He knows that to love a mortal is to accept that eventually he will have to bury them. There is no illusion of forever, there is no fantasy where he fights against the nature of living things and shields his beloveds from death. Apollo loves and because of that love, he also accepts.
And that, while beautiful, is also tragic.
#ginger rambles#ginger chats about greek myths#greek mythology#apollo#Listen man#I think there's something extremely beautiful about Apollo's affairs#Yes I know that Ares also loves and cares for his daughters but this isn't about him#There's just something about the way that Apollo put his all into it every single time#To the point that even when he does know better he still fights because of the strength of his love#The Iliad to me will always be a love story#Yes Achilles' wrath is said to come from his overwhelming feelings towards Patroclus#but what Achilles does has nothing to do with grief or love#By the end of everything Achilles forsook that love which ought to have defined his actions based on what he was saying#and warped it into a weapon meant to satisfy the void left by his loss#Apollo though - I am always taken aback by the sheer weight of his love#towards not only Hektor but towards all of Troy in the Iliad#And how he is very careful to balance that love and all the ways he wishes he could fight against their inevitably end#with his duties as one who is both aware of the impending end and whose position in the war#has put him in opposition with his elders#That delicate balance between a love so powerful that he is willing to take on the full weight of Athena and Hera's wrath#and an understanding that the battle he fights is not for victory but simply because for love's sake#How could you not think of that as beautiful and awesome and so achingly tragic#I feel the same about both Asclepius' and Actaeon's deaths#Apollo loved BOTH of his sons - Asclepius and Aristaeus - so so SO much#He was so incredibly proud of them both and delighted immensely in the both of their victories and talents#And so when Asclepius dies and it is by his own father's hand - I have always found his act of wrath so fascinating#Honestly this could be its own separate post - but the fact that Apollo does not beg Zeus to reconsider or to bring Asclepius back#when Apollo has made cases for lenience on things like that before speaks of a level of understanding from Apollo that Asclepius was always#going to die because of his pushing of the boundary between life and death#so he doesn't bother trying to reason with Zeus or plea his grief - instead going directly to destroying something important to Zeus

Sunpea at the start of eaps: I only wish to live without fear of being in extreme pain every day
Everyone except Moonpea: Christ you are extremely selfish die
Sunpea: I am 3 weeks old
#this is equally about some people in the fandom at the time btw#to be extremely clear yes Sunpea did things wrong and is extremely flawed which I love about him#but he is also quite literally a young developing animatronic who can be extremely anxious/paranoid#and should not be treated with the same scrutiny as say an “adult” animatronic a fully developed one with months/years of experience#he is not MALICIOUS and it was extremely satisfying seeing Moonpea be more understanding than some of the fandom#eclipse and puppet show#eaps sun#sun and moon show

lilia thoughts?
do you know what they did so beautifully? they gave us a divination witch, the one type of magic associated with ‘knowing all’, being wise… the sort of person you would keep at an arms length through fear of finding out something you do not want to, and they coupled her magic up with her being the (debatably) oldest witch in the coven … only for us to find out that she is the only one who a) does not know who she is b) does not understand her purpose c) fears her own strength d) needs to discover her sense of self, her true identity.
i think it was an incredibly beautiful ode to remembering that as human beings we all started somewhere, with innocence and joy, and then life comes in and can take that away from us. you can lose yourself, your drive, or even your purpose. lilia showed us that despite the fear, despite the constant running away and dismissal of potentially finding happiness again, doing the one thing that scares you the most will probably make you feel the most satisfied, accomplished and happy. it mirrors beautifully how younger generations constantly look to older generations for guidance, but also judgement. it was a kind reminder that we are all living and experiencing life for the first time, no matter how wise or how many years you have under your belt.
plus, it’s literally patti lupone. need i say more?
#thanks for this question i loved it!#agatha all along#lilia calderu#patti lupone#i was extremely satisfied with Lilia’s ending contrary to others opinions#before you come at me ok maybe they are all trying to find their purpose just let me have this one lmao

one thing I absolutely love about tumblr that only exists here is the way many people unrestrainedly pour out their thoughts and reactions in the tags when otherwise they would hesitate writing it in regular comments on other platforms and I live for it. thank you everyone for liking my latest piece, it's been 162494 years since I drew anything FE3H related and I desperately needed this. it feels like I'm back home
#coucou talks#feeling very satisfied#also I didn't expect such a strong reaction on all social platforms#this grandfather/failnaught scene isn't perfectly elaborated I would love to make a fleshed out comic for this#but I'm a terribly weak writer and extremely insecure about writing up dialogues#super insecure about writing in general as much as I want to#anyway thank you everyone it's a real joy to be here again and be productive in this fandom#I still love claude as always

[Fool]'s Favour
Also known as: Our star-crossed lovers, Lancelot and Guinevere
The deal is, I really don't think Lancelot is a fool. But when I read the prompt, Lord Huron's lyrics ran through my head:
"I'm dangerous cause I'm a fool for love"
And I think of them
