the octopus has the fastest shape-shifting and color changing known in the animal kingdom, chameleons take about 10-20 minutes to change color to their surroundings, octopuses / octopi do this in 1-2 tenths of a second.

DP x DC worlds greatest detectives ramble
You ever just get a bit tired of the batfamily being dumb?
Sure I appreciate a good “Danny is weird and the Bats try to figure out his deal and draw wrong conclusions based on incomplete evidence” fic as much as the next guy, and I’m definitely not saying not to write them
But the thing is, they’re all really smart. It’s their whole thing, they’re a family of detectives that dress up in colorful costumes and fight crime, but detectives nonetheless
And I get it’s for humorous effect to have otherwise intelligent people be incredibly dumb about one thing, but it’d just be nice to see them be smart sometimes. Even in a fic where they’re drawing the wrong conclusions, it’d be nice to see them use their detective skills
Like build a case so solid Danny questions whether they’re actually right about him and if he’s just confused
Or just apply it to more conventional situations/crimes
Because frankly it’s funnier if you show they’re smart before having them do something really stupid
If you build them up a bit, then it’s funnier when they fall down.
“Where did he go? It’s like he vanished into thin air!?”
“Don’t be silly, see these scuff marks? Someone recently went down this way. The gravel here has been disturbed indicating this manhole cover has been moved recently. Now if we just prop this up…”
“…huh, is that…?”
“Killer Croc and not the twink we were just tracking?”
“Yeah, that”
“Yeah, that’s killer croc… hi Waylon”
*large scaly hand darts out and drags Bat in question down in the sewers while Danny watches invisibly*

Like I get why everyone portrays Bill as a theatrical conman and pathetic but like. He's also canonically incredibly intelligent at least in mathematics and physics (also like, history and all the knowledge he knows???). He helps Ford with the portal schematics and is shown to correct Ford's equations when he's working with Ford. He's legitimately extremely intelligent, and like sure he's a liar and a cheat and a partier so he doesn't fall into the classic 'stereotype' of studious nerdy and intelligent characters like Ford, which is why I think it's not explored in fanon... But that doesn't erase the fact that he's incredibly intelligent!!! Anyways this is my plug to beg people to explore that part of Bill in fan creations since I think that would be cool...

Thinking today about Boothill falling first, but Dan Heng falling harder.
Like I think of Boothill as being pretty self-aware, so he knew it almost immediately. He pointed his gun at Dan Heng and the guy didn't flinch didn't hesitate didn't even get scared just stood there with his arms crossed and casually insulted Boothill like he couldn't have made the furniture of the Express an even brighter red with a single squeeze of his trigger finger. Boothill knew he was doomed before they even defeated Sunday, and it only got worse and worse, the longer they sat at that bar in the Reverie together. ♡
Meanwhile Dan Heng was raised in a prison cell with zero say over anything. He was considered a criminal and he was being punished. There wasn't exactly anyone encouraging his emotional intelligence. It didn't matter what he wanted, so thinking about his own wants/needs/feelings is something that just like. Doesn't occur to Dan Heng.
Like he IS slowly but surely figuring it out, and he still acts on stuff of course. He and Boothill share that sort of ruthless straightforwardness where they can see action -> result. Dan Heng knows that he doesn't want anything to happen to the Crew, so he guards them viciously. Action (guard person) -> result (person stays alive). But I think if you asked him, he'd have a hard time putting his feelings for them into words, "they're once-in-a-lifetime companions" is about as deep as you're going to get from him haha
Anyway, all this to say, I think that even if he already knew he liked Boothill romantically, when Dan Heng- who guards his chosen little flock like a herding breed or maybe a sheepdog with a coyote collar- sees Boothill do something protective, like literally take a bullet for March 7th
("It's fine, it ain't gonna hurt me near as bad as it woulda hurt you, missy. It's just another dent, quit yer fussin'.")
that is when it suddenly hits him like a brick that oh, oh no, he loves him.

my favourite thing about the pair of twins in gravity falls is that. they're all equally chaotic. maybe they're chaotic in different ways, maybe their chaos affects their lives differently because of their interests and paths in life. but they're all so chaotic and if you asked them to set off a bunch of illegal fireworks damnit they'll do it. whether it's for fun or if it's for science. they'll be there

The extraordinary success of artificial intelligence is attributable to the fact that it frees us from real intelligence, that by hypertrophying thought as an operational process it frees us from thought's ambiguity and from the insoluble puzzle of its relationship to the world.

I find the idea of Durge subverting expectations (both in looks and behavior) very interesting, and combined with the intelligence that is hinted in canon, and him inheriting Bhaal's love of money and that translating into having a thing of luxury as well, my take on a durgetash first meeting is that they met during a high society party that Durge killed and lied his way into and it was him who realized that Gortash was a banite while Gortash thought he'd just be getting his dick wet later by the flirty noble who spent the night making fun of fellow high society peers with Gortash.
Durge ofc had planned on killing Gortash near the end of the party, but he kept postponing getting him alone and doing that bc he was actually having fun talking to Gortash and now he doesn't feel like killing him anymore oops
