Lego hobby update - 09.03.23 🚀 My evening was spent making small spacecraft leaning on the Exploriens theme and built a squadron of Hovertrons but more as flying craft with the usual cones, dishes and round plates to make them more shooty. Lead craft was created by spares and made the use or the parts bought on BrickLink… all fun 💚🚀👌

got some new PLA and while waiting, i modeled some more Logos: Exploriens, M:Tron and Blacktron.

painting the insectoids logo was a pain in the ass, because i had the genius idea to put webbing in front of the background that's supposed to have a gradient. i don't think it turned out too great.

i also added the .stls to the dropbox folder, feel free to download them :) (but maybe print the insectoid logo bigger than 6cm or on a resin printer, there's detail in the eyes i couldn't print with my ender 3)

made a little three dimensional Rock Raiders logo for 3D printing

Random Set of a Day: 1787

1787 Crater Cruiser

Crater Cruiser has been on my mind because I just tried building it. I have the shape down, but some of the parts are the wrong colour (especially the medium-sized wheels, which I only have in yellow). My brother had this set in our childhood, the largest Space set we knew personally until our childhoods had passed. The two figs* were the origin of a couple characters I would steal years later for my stories: Admiral Unitron and Lt.-Commander Under.

The nostalgia is still there and I suspect the set will improve with black wheels (which are coming), but the design is weaker than I remembered. The diminishing wheel sizes are cool from this one angle, but look a bit weird from the front. I like the Uniton-styled mini-spaceships, but they honestly are rather primitive builds. Unitron's look is wicked cool, but if you didn't come in already loving them, I doubt this set would convince you.

Android Files Notes: Now that we've (finally) reached the Castle realms, the Space sets of my childhood have some of the biggest lacunae in what we've seen--on the good guy side anyway, since the Spyrius and UFOs clearly haven't been lacking. We've seen a lot of Futuron, and Benny, and the 1992 Space Police (all part of my Colorian Dominion), but those were all sets from after my childhood. In addition to the Spyrius and UFOs, when I say "my childhood," I mean Iceplanet, Unitron, Exploriens, and Roboforce. We've had a couple figs, but no real sets. Someday, perhaps, we'll address this.

Lego Exploriens System: Sets 6815, 6854, 6856, 6899, 6982. Five Lego Exploriens System sets from 1996, includes all five instructions. Out of all five sets, there are twelve (12) pieces missing at a minimum. Missing (1) white weapon accessory. (1) blue glass dome. (1) red/white arrow decal 1x2. (1) black/yellow arrow 1x2. (2) face decal 2x2. All other missing pieces have been replaced with different color bricks, but that are fitting to the set color scheme. All missing pieces should be easily replaced. All figures and accessories included except the above mentioned. See the set listings below for missing piece and replace piece specifics. The 1996 Exploriens sets included: Set #6815 - Hovertron: 100% complete. Set #6854 - Alien Fossilizer: Missing one white hose. Replaced with one grey hose. Set #6856 - Planetary Decoder: Missing one face decal plate & one blue glass dome (antenna array section). Set #6899 - Nebula Outpost: 100% complete. Set #6982 - Explorien Starship: Missing one white weapon accessory. One red/white arrow decal 1x2 brick. One black/yellow arrow 1x2 brick. One face decal 2x2 brick. One black/grey character legs. Replaced with grey legs. Two white wing bricks. Replaced with two black wing bricks. Two grey 1x4 bricks with holes. Replaced with two black 1x4 bricks with holes. My latest Explorien kit arrived at the weekend namely the 6856 Planetary Decoder with the usual bits added to have more guns and firepower. Model is looking swisher with the Hovertron Squadron on display in my shed 👌
