A look back at one of my favorite photos of 2023.

I had already used the same location near my home to show a canoe falling into the waterfall. But I wanted to take the storytelling a step further and feature a team of unhappy pirates who had made the wrong choices and were about to lose their entire fortune!

I'd like to take this opportunity to share some behind-the-scenes footage with you ;)

Walking the plank 😧🏴‍☠️

My initial intention was to create a scene featuring the Pirate Quartermaster lady from LEGO Minifigures Series 27, but then I realized I hadn't photographed pirates in a while. That gave me the idea to create a scene where some poor soul has to walk the plank while the other pirates cheer. 🏴‍☠️

Of course, I had to combine multiple photos into one to keep (almost) everyone in focus while maintaining a nicely blurred background. Only Captain Redbeard is intentionally more blurred since he's farther in the background. I hope I didn't miss anything. 😅

I also used pico LEDs for the torch and lamp to make the scene a bit more interesting. 🔥

Jack and the young shark

Jack conquered wave after wave, constantly looking back. No, it seems these bunglers still haven’t realized that he stole a treasure chest and sailed away on a small raft. But even when it became clear that there was no pursuit of him, and the waves died down, the pirate was still in danger. A young shark jumped out of the water directly towards him, intending to feast on him. “Now you will taste my blade!” - Jack shouted and drew his saber, grabbing the mast with his other hand...

This was my first experience shooting with a spray gun. I experimented with exposure, sprayed and sprayed on Jack, and he became angrier and angrier! :) A plastic bag is used as the water surface, and the shark and fish are held on by a thin wire.

This is my last feature of the month.

This image is just fun to look at. The pirates face, the frozen moment of almost falling, the coins going down the waterfall.

It is also quite challenging with so many flying objects around, the moving water, the frozen action. It is very well done!
