No wait let me talk some more about Bridget Jones and how despite all of it's faults I think it's a positive movie for women in general and fat women in particular
So yeah, Renée Zellweger is not fat. While I think we should not forget that she was still body-shamed in media for the slight weight she put on for the movies, she was never fat or even "chubby". It is obviously a problem that in the first two movies she is constantly treated as fat when she never was. But even thought I do not like it, that is how it is. And in the Bridget Jones cinematic universe, Bridget Jones is seen as fat. As someone who is not desirable, who is embarrassing to date and who should constantly feel ridiculous for daring to exist in the world.
And you know, when you grow up fat, you learn that you need to compensate for the crime of being too big. Especially when you are seen as a woman. You need to be smart as a whip, and funny and entertaining to be around, and talented in so many ways, and you may never be clumsy because when a fat girl falls down, the first reaction is not "are you okay", it's laughter. And you may not have standards. If a guy likes you, consider yourself lucky. You can't be too loud or annoying because you already take up too much space. When it comes to looks, you must excel at femininity. You must wear make-up and have a beautiful face and lovely eyes and you have to wear clothes that compliment your body, that draw the attention to your breasts and hips. You must always be ready to be sexualized because that is the closest thing you can get to having your body accepted.
And then there is Bridget Jones. She drinks too much, she smokes too much, she talks too much and I love her with every fiber of my being. Look at how they dress her in the first two movies. Look how they style her hair. The clothes are often ill-fitting, the hair is messy and flat. When she goes to parties, she tries so hard to look good but never looks like a typical romcom lead. She is reaching towards femininity and falling face first into mud. She is crass and has a weird sense of humour and she always says the wrong thing in every situation.
But she is sincere. She is loved by her friends, she is desired by several men (and one woman) and she is allowed to have standards. The first movie's plotline with Daniel Cleaver is so good in this regard. Daniel sends Bridget sexual texts, sleeps with her, never says he loves her and then he cheats on her. Do we laugh at how silly Bridget was to get her hopes up when she thought this guy played by Hugh Grant could like her when he never said he did and obviously only wanted sex? No. We focus on how hurt Bridget is. And I love the scene where Bridget is with her friends and Mark Darcy when Cleaver comes to apologize. He comes through her door and seems surprised she's not alone, waiting for him. It is her birthday. Of course she is with her friends. Who you would know exist if you cared about her life at all, Daniel. And you know, then he apologizes and doesn't wait for Bridget's response, he just assumes she takes him back. Because how could she possibly do better? And after Daniel and Mark have their legendary fight for Bridget's affections and Bridget tells Mark to piss off, Daniel just assumes this means Bridget has chosen him. Because a woman like Bridget needs to have someone to make her feel less like a waste of space, right? Which makes it delicious when Bridget counters Daniel's pathetic little love confession "If I can't make it with you then I can't make it with anyone" with "That's not a good enough offer for me". She is still looking for something more extraordinary than that.
And she gets it!! I can not stress this enough! She is seen as a fat woman who isn't brilliantly smart, isn't polite or suave, is clumsy and crass and socially awkward, and can't cook anything but blue soup and marmalade and is a hot mess express in general, and the archetypical romantic hero, literal Mr Darcy falls in love with her just as she is. Bridget never needs to become smarter or less awkward or less clumsy, she is loved and treasured just as she is. That is why I have loved her for twenty years.

I'm gonna be honest. I think it's vert important that there are bad and weapons spells in Souls games, certainly there is a mentality of "everything should be viable" but I cannot stop thinking of the flavor of, say with a recent example (also Eldy Rang DLC spoilers)...
The Minor Erdtree incantation you find in the Miko/Shaman village...
Tumblr media
It's an incredibly hard spell to use: it costs two slots to equip, it requires 70 faith, you find it quite late in the game guarded by some relatively difficult enemies. And for all of that, it's a relatively okay supportive heal.
Now this incantation, though perhaps lackluster in how it preforms mechanically, can say a lot with just how much it requires.
first off the spell slot requirement. A massive majority of the spells in the game require only one—the fact that this requires two immediately sets it apart from the majority. But then what does this imply? Comparing it to the others of it's ilk we have the Light of Miquella, both of Bayle's spells, Midra's Frenzy, Giantsflame Take Thee, Elden Stars, and others. These are all incantations from sourced from the higher ranks of their faiths: Bayle's spells coming directly from the drakes heart, Midra's is in direct praise to the failed lord of frenzy, and Giantsflame stated to draw from the fire giants themselves. Now I want to specifically compare it to the Light of Miquella, as they are both sourced from 'gold.'
Miquella's 'giant fuck you laser beam' is the only other incantation with a similar set of requirements as Minor Erdtree, in fact needing two more faith to wield at 72. Now this is where the description comes in.
Tumblr media
Secret incantation of Queen Marika. Only the kindness of gold, without Order.
I can't stop thinking about this incantation honestly, it's astounding. An entirely mechanically supportive incantation, and specifically stated as being "without Order."
Tumblr media
Then we have this one.
Miquella sought to accept all that was and would be, but found one that refused to be embraced. No wonder, as one god, and one king consort, is all the world needs.
Yeah. Okay Buddy. I see you Mikey. Comparing these two spells is really what does it for me. Now say what you will about how useful this incantation is (I've only seen it really shine with a very specific PVP set up), but it's purpose is clear.
Annihilates foes with a pillar of light.
Plain and simple. Two spells, each with absolutely massive requirements, both drawing from the same source, with two wildly different purposes. One explicitly a weapon. One a gift to those long gone from the world. It's just something that leaves you thinking about the places these incantations exist in within their worlds on top of how they fit within a build, and I really think that's a very fun thing.
Also maybe this is my excuse to finally talk about how I think that Miquella is simply repeating the same mistakes that Marika made, because in the end coming to the same conclusion as Gold Mask is maybe not the smartest one. But, that is for later.

cant stop thinking about when in 1965 reporters asked bob dylan if his relationship with joan baez was romantic or just friendly and he was like “yeah, we’re just friends” and then later went on to say “you can’t be wise and in love at the same time” when explaining why he didn’t return the favor of inviting her on stage to perform with him and treating her like she was generally nonexistent during that time

Earlier in the show these ideas of pity and obligation were brought up and I think that is Day's biggest problem with Night.
I don't think he necessarily blames Night for the accident as much as he blames the accident for the way their dynamic changed. Like without their father, Day was the so-called "man of the house". He was close with their Mom and had an incredible life to make up for all the ways he saw abandonment in their father or failure in Night. He was the the top of their family and it was undisputed. However, after the accident, Night had to leave his former life of carelessness behind to take Day's old role. So as much as Day blames Night for losing his sight, I think he blames himself for forcing Night into this "big brother" role that he never really had before. I think that they both feel obligated to each other and mourn the paths their lives could've gone down while also feeling this strange power struggle of new dynamics.

Thinking about a Dungeon Meshi swap AU where Laios is eaten instead of Falin
I think everything is relatively the same in the terms of party members. Chilchuck would stay, not for Falin, but for Laios cause he and the blond are actually close and he wouldn’t say it out loud but he’s worried about him and no I won’t take criticism. Marcille would stay, definitely for Falin but she’s worried about that weird guy in her own way. Namari would still leave and wish Falin the best. The only difference is that Shuro would definitely come this time if it was Falin who asked, however he’d probably tell her to go on ahead without him so he can get a bigger team to help and meet her down there. Senshi, of course, still joins the group.
There are a lot of little things that would change but I have such a specific scene in my brain that won’t leave.
In the swap version of the scene where Chimera Falin fucks everyone up and then run off, Falin watches as her now monsterfied and wounded brother flee, tears in her eyes as she attempts to stop herself from crying but can’t. Marcille, immediately assuming that she’s crying about Laios, tries to comfort her by saying they’re going to find a way to revert this, even if at the time she’s just saying an empty promise to make Falin feel better since she has no clue on how to fix Laios either.
But that’s not why Falin is crying.
During the fight she watched her brother very closely, the way he moved, the way he analyzed each person who came close, the way his eyes softened and he gently smiled when he recognized her for just a moment before turning back into a beast. A gut wrenching realization ran through her head the more she watched him and it got even louder when he fled.
She realized that when her brother appeared as that chimera, that monster, his yellow eyes shined bright in the dark and his toothy grin could be seen for miles, and the grin barely faded even during the battle.
Falin has never seen her brother so unapologetically happy in her entire life.
It was like he was made to be a monster.
She wondered if it would be cruel to turn him human again, a horrid thought that she might be ripping him away from what was assumedly his dream come true. Who gave her the right to ruin her brothers happiness when she knows Laios would do everything in his power to make sure his little sister was happy.
She quickly shook away the thought. She had to save her brother. She had to.
But no matter how much deeper they traveled that small persistent thought stayed in her brain, trying to make her doubt the rescue and convince her that, while he wouldn’t tell her outright, Laios would grow to despise her for turning him back a tallman when being a monster was so freeing and easy.
Falin knows in her heart that her brother could never hate her and it was just her stressed and anxious thoughts getting the best of her, but it doesn’t stop those fears from manifesting in her nightmares.
Ignore me I’m running on 2 hours of sleep and I’m loosing my mind slightly

Ohhh, I'm rereading Mystra's entry in the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide... and this detail:
Tumblr media
This means Gale was punished for trying to restore and preserve what he thought was a lost piece of Mystra's magic. Gale being Mystra's ex-lover put aside. He as her follower, she his goddess, was punished for attempting to do the one foundational rule of her faith.
I'm seething and so sad at the same time.
Edit: I used the word punish loosely, as in, toxic/abusive people will take any small mistake or action and twist it into something they can take advantage of. This post was also largely from the stand point of a toxic deity rather than a toxic partner, but both takes are valid here. Especially with the, “you didn’t stay compliant so now I’m giving you the silent treatment” part of it—from a god and a partner perspective.

When I say I am not waiting for revolution, I mean Im planting things secretly at bus stops, and shoveling snow out of the way of crosswalks. I mean it in a way where neighbors are stocking community fridges and harvesting in community gardens. Little libraries and strangers giving you shoes bc they couldnt return them. I mean ppl swapping stuff or loaning it out to neighbors theyve just met. I mean it in a way where a friend who can sew asks me to mend something and a week late brings me cookies as thanks. I mean it in the way a friend makes a playlist for you and it truly brighten your day. These tiny acts of defiance against cruelty and profit are their own  revolutions. And they catch like kindling, small going at first you might not even know that flames there. Than suddenly all at once catching, burning in the darkness of the night.

isn't it weird how if you get up at 7 or 8, do your work all day, then have free time and go to bed at 11 that's absolutely fine
but if i said i get up at 10, do fun stuff in the morning then work in the evening and go to bed late, i could be called lazy, nevermind that i'm getting just as much or MORE work done as i would in a traditional work day

I know y'all are not ready for it, but I'm this close 🤏 to hc Bruce having an eating disorder because of how strict Alfred is written about food in canon and fanon. Everyone is writing it as if it's a funny joke that the Batfam has to hide "unhealthy" snacks from him, but it's not. (Btw, just the "healthy" and "unhealthy" label are wrong and bad. Food is food.)
In the comics, Bruce will be offered a donut and think about how Alfred would disapprove and how it will harm his health, before accepting. And, sure, to live the life he lives, Bruce need to follow a particular diet. But it's just ONE donut, it cannot harm him. That's not a healthy mindset at all. The fact that Bruce, as a grown adult with kids, is thinking about Alfred's reaction to him eating a donut before accepting, vocalizing how it is against the rules, is alarming.
And maybe I would accept it, as a non-usamerican, if it was because of the toxic things they put in your food there (criminal what they make you eat), but it's never about that. No, it's about the calories and the heartburn, and "fast food and sugar" are bad, and "poor people food is bad" (Alfred's classicism is another point for another time). Alfred controls what the Wayne eat and he is very controlling about that, as the boys will also comment about Alfred disapproving something before eating it. This is some ED behavior, you shouldn't worry about food like this. And like, I'm split between being thankful neither Bruce or the kids enforce it to one another, but also being annoyed they need to remind others how "Alfred wouldn't approve" when they see them eating something not allowed.
Thinking about Dick and his cereals, especially that Nightwing (2016) page where he gets a Nightwing truck and it has a compartiment with a ton of cereals. It is a commun behavior in children who were restricted some type of food to over indulge in it once they are independent. If cereals were something Alfred was against because he finds it "unhealthy", Dick's extreme love for cereals is a red flag.
Me, talking about Bruce: The boy was mentally fucked up enough, you didn't have to give him an ED on top, Alfred!
