So here's one of the coolest things that has happened to me as a Tolkien nut and an amateur medievalist. It's also impacted my view of the way Tolkien writes women. Here's Carl Stephenson in MEDIEVAL FEUDALISM, explaining the roots of the ceremony of knighthood: "In the second century after Christ the Roman historian Tacitus wrote an essay which he called Germania, and which has remained justly famous. He declares that the Germans, though divided into numerous tribes, constitute a single people characterised by common traits and a common mode of life. The typical German is a warrior. [...] Except when armed, they perform no business, either private or public. But it is not their custom that any one should assume arms without the formal approval of the tribe. Before the assembly the youth receives a shield and spear from his father, some other relative, or one of the chief men, and this gift corresponds to the toga virilis among the Romans--making him a citizen rather than a member of a household" (pp 2-3). Got it?
Remember how Tolkien was a medievalist who based his Rohirrim on Anglo-Saxon England, which came from those Germanic tribes Tacitus was talking about? Stephenson argues that the customs described by Tacitus continued into the early middle ages eventually giving rise to the medieval feudal system. One of these customs was the gift of arms, which transformed into the ceremony of knighthood: "Tacitus, it will be remembered, describes the ancient German custom by which a youth was presented with a shield and a spear to mark his attainment of man's estate. What seems to the be same ceremony reappears under the Carolingians. In 791, we are told, Charlemagne caused Prince Louis to be girded with a sword in celebration of his adolescence; and forty-seven years later Louis in turn decorated his fifteen-year-old son Charles "with the arms of manhood, i.e., a sword." Here, obviously, we may see the origin of the later adoubement, which long remained a formal investiture with arms, or with some one of them as a symbol. Thus the Bayeux Tapestry represents the knighting of Earl Harold by William of Normandy under the legend: Hic Willelmus dedit Haroldo arma (Here William gave arms to Harold). [...] Scores of other examples are to be found in the French chronicles and chansons de geste, which, despite much variation of detail, agree on the essentials. And whatever the derivation of the words, the English expression "dubbing to knighthood" must have been closely related to the French adoubement" (pp 47-48.)
In its simplest form, according to Stephenson, the ceremony of knighthood included "at most the presentation of a sword, a few words of admonition, and the accolade." OK. So what does this have to do with Tolkien and his women? AHAHAHAHA I AM SO GLAD YOU ASKED. First of all, let's agree that Tolkien, a medievalist, undoubtedly was aware of all the above. Second, turn with me in your copy of The Lord of the Rings to chapter 6 of The Two Towers, "The King of the Golden Hall", when Theoden and his councillors agree that Eowyn should lead the people while the men are away at war. (This, of course, was something that medieval noblewomen regularly did: one small example is an 1178 letter from a Hospitaller knight serving in the Latin kingdom of Jerusalem which records that before marching out to the battle of Montgisard, "We put the defence of the Tower of David and the whole city in the hands of our women".) But in The Lord of the Rings, there's a little ceremony.
"'Let her be as lord to the Eorlingas, while we are gone.' 'It shall be so,' said Theoden. 'Let the heralds announce to the folk that the Lady Eowyn will lead them!' Then the king sat upon a seat before his doors and Eowyn knelt before him and received from him a sword and a fair corselet."
I YELLED when I realised what I was reading right there. You see, the king doesn't just have the heralds announce that Eowyn is in charge. He gives her weapons.
Theoden makes Eowyn a knight of the Riddermark.
Not only that, but I think this is a huge deal for several reasons. That is, Tolkien knew what he was doing here.
From my reading in medieval history, I'm aware of women choosing to fight and bear arms, as well as becoming military leaders while the men are away at some war or as prisoners. What I haven't seen is women actually receiving knighthood. Anyone could fight as a knight if they could afford the (very pricy) horse and armour, and anyone could lead a nation as long as they were accepted by the leaders. But you just don't see women getting knighted like this.
Tolkien therefore chose to write a medieval-coded society, Rohan, where women arguably had greater equality with men than they did in actual medieval societies.
I think that should tell us something about who Tolkien was as a person and how he viewed women - perhaps he didn't write them with equal parity to men (there are undeniably more prominent male characters in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, at least, than female) but compared to the medieval societies that were his life's work, and arguably even compared to the society he lived in, he was remarkably egalitarian.
I think it should also tell us something about the craft of writing fantasy.
No, you don't have to include gut wrenching misogyny and violence against women in order to write "realistic" medieval-inspired fantasy.
Tolkien's fantasy worlds are DEEPLY informed by medieval history to an extent most laypeople will never fully appreciate. The attitudes, the language, the ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS use of medieval military tactics...heck, even just the way that people travel long distances on foot...all of it is brilliantly medieval.
The fact that Theoden bestows arms on Eowyn is just one tiny detail that is deeply rooted in medieval history. Even though he's giving those arms to a woman in a fantasy land full of elves and hobbits and wizards, it's still a wonderfully historically accurate detail.
Of course, I've ranted before about how misogyny and sexism wasn't actually as bad in medieval times as a lot of people today think. But from the way SOME fantasy authors talk, you'd think that historical accuracy will disappear in a puff of smoke if every woman in the dragon-infested fantasy land isn't being traumatised on the regular.
Tolkien did better. Be like Tolkien.

Hello Ghesties, Ghouls & Ghoulettes! Welcome to Angels run-down show-down, where I (Angel) do a run down of the Ghovie for all you lovely folk!!
Didn’t get the chance to see the Ghovie aka Rite Here Rite Now? Fear not for I am here! This post will contain a run-down of what happened during the Ghovie.
So this is your warning:
‼️SPOILERS AHEAD ‼️
I will be breaking this down into separate parts:
Lore: contains all lore that was mentioned
Songs: songs that were played
And Theatrics: stage play and other attributes that happened.
Another fair warning: there is a possibility that not everything that happened in the movie is noted here, I may have forgotten some things!! But I will do my best to include everything🤍
Additional notes: many fans including me were worried that this project would be incredibly low quality due to the fact it’s a movie operated by a band. More so worried that the movie would be the same quality as the YouTube episodes. I can confirm that the camera quality for this movie is amazing. You can compare the filmography to Taylor swifts era tour movie. Each shot for rite here rite now is shot with a high-to-low speed motion camera. The audio quality is above and beyond, even nihils ghost is very detailed and realistic. Every film shot is synchronized with the songs and instruments (example: camera changes for each beat/camera focuses on certain ghouls for their assigned solo)
Lore:
Story: the plot of the ghovie is a showcase of their Kia forum concert mixed with short lore scenes. Between every 2-3 songs there would be a scene of Copia running behind stage and talking with imperator and nihil OR getting dressed and ready for his next performance.
When he talked with imperator and nihil, he mostly talked to them about what would happen after the concert. Nihil and imperator told him numerous times that he was “focusing to much on the past and future instead of living in the moment, living right here, right now.”
Copia realizes this before he does his encore, so he goes out and does a great encore assuming he’ll soon die. After the encore and when the concert is finished, unfortunately imperator dies and gives a note to Copia.
The note states that he will not die, but rather be gifted a new higher status in the clergy. In which he’ll further be known as Frater (Latin for brother, which makes sense if we think about the title for sister imperator). And because there is no head for the ghost project they will bring in a new front man. The movie ends before the front man is revealed and we are left on a cliffhanger.
The lore for the ghovie is very similar and the same to what we already know! Not to much was revealed but here were the key points of what was mentioned:
⭐️the other brothers were not directly mentioned or shown on camera. The only references to the other emeritus brothers was the backdrop for the stage (stained glass windows portraying the previous brothers & nihil)
⭐️it was confirmed that Nihil was copias father and that during the kiss the go-goat music video sister imperator was pregnant with Copia.
⭐️Copia even acknowledges nihil as his dad, in one scene where he says “thanks dad”
⭐️sister imperator ends up passing at the end of the movie but becomes a spirit and is seen with the rest of the spirits (nihil and the twins, yes, the twins seem in the YouTube episodes apparently have died)
⭐️the ghouls were not to involved with the lore except for the fact they all surrounded imperators dead body when she passed. (Idk if this counts as lore but) the ghouls also talked in the movie, only for a small scene though. Bass ghoul (Rain) is the ghoul that talked.
⭐️nihil says that he produced three songs. The third song is the one we see during the credits. Song is : the future is a foreign land, as shown here:

Some silly theatrics that happened include:

💙has a the tour manager (Ashley) come out on stage and change his shoes for him.
💙only Copia can see the spirits of his family, so when he would talk to nihil or imperator, spectators around him would think he’s crazy and talking to himself.
💙many of the behind the scenes crew of the band were included in the movie such as : Ashley(tour manager), and many of the security guards & jesus( you know who lol)
💙remember when everyone was freaking out about the fact there’d be a blowjob reference? Yeah well there was no actual blow job scene, the warning for the blow job was for when Kyle aka Jesus came out and blew away the confetti.
💙there is also a scene at the end in which Copia is flying away from the concert (I guess that’s his preferred way of transportation lol??) he is flying in the hot air balloon we see in the cover for rite here rite now. He flies into space before falling, ouch!
💙during his flight there’s a montage of sister imperator being pregnant with him, during this montage we see twins. Twin babies, twin children. We are unsure if this is a reference to Tobias’s twins or if Copia has a twin.

I don't know if you covered this before, but how does being left-handed effect handling weaponry? I imagine it doesn't impact too much with guns, but I've heard it can alter how using a sword works. How true is this, in the end?
That's sort of backwards. With a handful of exceptions, being left-handed doesn't do much to how you handle most melee weapons. The big exceptions are if you're wielding a shield, and in some medieval siege assault situations. Being a left-handed shooter, on the other hand, comes with a host of considerations, and in some cases, requires modifying your firearms so that they're convenient to use, or in others, it straight up requires learning to shoot right handed.
So, the part about this that is true, has nothing to do with which hand is dominant. Speaking from personal experience, it is much easier to accurately shoot with your off-hand, than it is to wield a melee weapon off-handed.
So, the issue with being a lefty with a shield is that your shield will be on the right side of your body while your opponent's shield will be on the left side of theirs. This means you're mirroring each other, and blocking an attack with your shield (or your opponent doing the same to you) is far more vulnerable to stepping out of line slightly and striking your opponent's weapon arm. This goes both ways, though a left-handed fighter is more likely to be prepared to immediately exploit this opening, simply because there are more right handed fighters, so they'll be encountering this situation more often.
The second exception is architectural. We've mentioned this on many occasions, but medieval castles were designed to favor the defenders. This took multiple forms, but among them were stairways designed so that someone invading the castle would have their right arm pressed up against a wall, while their left hand was free. (This was true both with open stairways, and also with spiral stairways inside the keep.) The assumed word here is, “designed to favor right-handed defenders.” A left-handed assaulter would be able to use their dominant arm freely as they assaulted, because the keep was (accidentally) built to favor them. In some cases, they might even have advantages over the right-handed defenders, such as being able to attack freely from above as they descended.
I'm been mostly thinking about the standard infantry sidearms of the era, but is worth remembering that a left-handed spearman would be a problem in a tightly packed formation (such as the phalanx), because their arm would be running extremely close to their fellow fighter on the left side of their battle line, while leaving a gap to their right.
It's also worth knowing that most lefties train (often involuntarily) some degree ambidexterity. Everything from doorknobs to jars are built for right-handed people, so, you learn to do things with your off-hand that a right-handed individual would never even think about. Hell even just putting on your clothes in the morning will train some dexterity in your right-hand, which a right-handed individual would never do with their left. (Amusingly, the major exception to this would be some articles of women's clothing, which were originally oriented opposite a man's clothes so that a servant could fasten her clothes for her, using their right hand for the more dexterous bits.) (Actually, if you know your Latin, there's a pun in the previous sentence, and I am truly sorry for that.)
Now, when it comes to firearms, being a left-handed shooter can be annoying. It also means you're far more likely to write about firearms in some public capacity. So, that's a weird trend.
The biggest problem tends to be the controls. A lot of firearms will position their controls to be convenient for a right-handed operator. If you're left-handed, you'll find yourself having to reach over the weapon, or break fire position, to interact with those settings, more than a right-handed shooter would. This can include safety switches, fire control groups, magazine releases, slide/bolt catch releases, and even decockers.
It's fairly rare to encounter a handgun where the slide release and safety are ambidextrous. Ambidextrous mag releases are a bit more common these days than they used to be, so that's always nice. But, whenever someone breaks out a 1911, yeah, that's really expecting you to be right-handed.
This isn't just with modern firearms either. One of my favorite handguns is the Colt SAA. The gun is over 150 years old, and if you're left-handed, reloading it will see you dropping spent brass onto the back of your hand. (Or cradling the gun, and clearing the cylinders that way, which is entirely valid.)
Sometimes, you can modify a gun for left-handed use. This will often involve things like replacing the magazine release (and praying that the mags' manufacture considered someone would switch the release button, or cutting new release notches into your mags.) Revering the safety (which in some of the most obnoxious cases, also means replacing the grip paneling.) This is all doable, but you're going to put a lot of work into making the gun comfortable for your left hand.
Though, there are other solutions. The H&K USP's massive slide release leaver, designed for use with gloves, can easily be operated by a left-handed shooter's index finger. (Also, the USP has an ambidextrous mag release, and the safety/decocker is positioned so that you can, at least, safe and unsafe it with the first knuckle of your index finger, though, good luck decocking it, without moving your left hand out of the way entirely), and in other cases, you can flip your thumb over the slide to adjust it.
In the case of most push button releases, you can simply eject it by drawing back your middle finger and pressing the button directly. Though, this does lead to another problem. Your hand is not supposed to be right over that button at all times, and until you learn how to manage the recoil on a gun, it can very easy for a left-handed shooter to accidentally drop the mag after they fire. This is especially an issue for Glocks and SIG P220 series pistols. (Ironically, this is less of a problem with the Beretta 92/M9 family of pistols, given how the push button sits in the grip.)
If you what a modified left-handed pistol can end up looking like, McClane (Bruce Willis)'s Beretta from Die Hard was modified to accommodate his left-hand dominance, with the major differences being the slide release being modified, and the mag release being replaced with one that was easier to reach.
Behind the controls, is the slightly less common non-ambidextrous grips. I still remember this MP5 variant with a contoured thumb rest on the left side. Perfect for a right-handed shooter, but if you're a lefty, it would dig into your palm. This is slightly more common with hunting rifles, and sporting guns in general, but as the MP5 above indicates, it's not exclusive to them.
It's also worth remembering that this last issue can pop up with melee weapons as well. If a rapier is designed to be held in the right hand, it might not be compatible with your left hand. I've never seen this personally, but it's something worth remembering.
The end result is, a lot of left-handed shooters learn to shoot right-handed for situations where the firearm simply isn't compatible with their dominant hand. "Though so profound a double-dealer, I was in no sense a hypocrite; both sides of me were in dead earnest; I was no more myself when I laid aside restraint and plunged in shame, than when I laboured, in the eye of day, at the furtherance of knowledge or the relief of sorrow and suffering."

: ̗̀➛ a horror classic! coming in at a sweet 96-pages, it was easy to smash out in an evening. and despite the brevity of the text and the fact that it's over a century old, i found it insanely compelling and indeed pretty chilling at multiple points.
: ̗̀➛ there are some ridiculously funny lines in this. i believe he named the evil character hyde just so he could drop this banger: "'If he be Mr. Hyde,' he had thought, 'I shall be Mr. Seek.'"

: ̗̀➛ beautifully crafted, incredibly intelligent, great central characters. i don't even know how to put into words what i felt about this one. and as someone who consumes a fair amount of translated literature [see: my love of ancient greek and roman classics] it tickled my interest around the biases and intricacy of translation so perfectly. you need to read it. please.
: ̗̀➛ have to include: "It should have been distressing. In truth, Robin found it was actually quite easy to put up with any degree of social unrest, as long as one got used to looking away."

: ̗̀➛ jenny hval is a norwegian musician and this was her debut novel, and it was bizarre and haunting and disgusting and made me cringe and feel squeamish at many points, and yet i read it in one fell swoop. it grips you for 120-odd pages and when you're done it feels like you've been spit out disoriented.

: ̗̀➛ i enjoyed this one decently enough. the writing style grew a bit tiresome, and the storyline seemed quite laissez-faire, but overall yes i enjoyed it. what can also grow tiresome for me is the woman-on-woman affair when one of them is married to a man - but maybe i've just read too much queer lit with no foreseeable happy ending lately, idk.
: ̗̀➛ the way the dialogue was structured [or perhaps, unstructured to a painful extent] was not my cup of tea at all.
: ̗̀➛ i was really tickled by her living in an annexe so close to the school nurse, who is very religious. the dynamic gave way to great passages like this: "I imagine her, at night, sending prayers my way, so sweet as to be malicious. In each of our interactions there is always the feeling that I would do better under her God. I don't mind her God, so tangible. The sexy Jesus in her bedroom. His body I too would die to have. Not just the chest but the legs, a footballer's legs, complex with muscle. Even those sad, raised palms. Brazen in their injuries. Such glamour." like hello??? incredible.

: ̗̀➛ a 'literary horror novel' set in 1901 about the unmarried and almost 30 'spinster' ada byrd who accepts a teaching post in a small isolated town. she wants to be rid of her past, one 'riddled with grief and shame', but upon witnessing strange and grisly sights, ada begins to believe that something ancient and beastly is behind all the peculiarities in this little town. her confusion deepens, and ada's grip on what is reality, delusion, or traumatic memory, begins to blur and fail.

: ̗̀➛ because the entire text is written in first person diary entries, i found that it sometimes failed to establish a creepy atmosphere. although this issue was more prominent for me in the first half, while in the second half the diary entries acted as a great insight as to how unhinged she was becoming. slay.
: ̗̀➛ imo this is simply what happens to a woman when she is raised by a heinous father and ends up an adult surrounded by too many sexy older women!

the sleepwalkers by scarlett thomas [★★★]
"How many eyes can one storm have?"
: ̗̀➛ still reeling from the chaos of their wedding, evelyn and richard arrive on a tiny greek island for their honeymoon. it's the end of the season and a storm is brewing on the horizon. they check into the villa rosa, which has a peculiar owner named isabella, and everyone wants to talk about the famous sleepwalkers, a couple who stayed at the hotel recently and drowned.
: ̗̀➛ saw a tagline that coined this as 'patricia highsmith meets white lotus' and i'd agree. good mystery thriller with some action.
: ̗̀➛ this one was a touch slow at first [it's told in letters, dictated audio recordings, from different perspectives, etc] but ultimately gripped me and i thoroughly enjoyed the drama and mystery. newlyweds that hate each other's guts? yeah, bestie, i need to know why.
: ̗̀➛ i really got into some of the takes showing how evelyn and richard viewed each other. this really stuck with me: "I read infrequently, partly because every book change me, right down the level of my DNA. I didn't want to be changed so often. But you were able to hoover up contemporary culture without so much as a little belch afterwards. You just carried on being you."

"These days death had been laid bare for what it really was. An ending. Often brutal, seldom fair, rarely kind."
: ̗̀➛ a thriller-esque, horror-esque book about a deadly infectious virus, and the attempted survival of three seperate groups trapped in isolated circumstances in the icy wilderness. [this one is so hard to describe sorry]
: ̗̀➛ the book is told through three different pov's. i normally despise this but i actually didn't hate it in this case, although i did have favourites.
: ̗̀➛ boyfriend asked me to read this when he finished it and then watched me from across the room the almost whole time, pretending not to be staring whenever i looked up. and he was right, it was fast-paced, had some good twists and turns, and was enjoyable, albeit very different from what i normally read.

: ̗̀➛ this book was a heart-ache of a read. honest and raw and devastating and uplifting. often very very funny -- "People told Hugo, 'Don't go down the goal end, mate; it's like watching your favourite pub burn down.' Oh ha. Ha. Ha." -- i couldn't put it down.
: ̗̀➛ the end did start to feel a touch self-helpy which isn't necessarily my bag of tricks when it comes to non-fiction, but those inclusions felt warranted and fair after such an in-depth depiction of everything laura had gone through.
: ̗̀➛ serious mental health trigger warnings for this one. there is plenty of humour, but it gets very dark.

the death of jane lawrence by caitlin starling [★★]
"She dreamed of tearing out a rotted pit inside of him where his martyrdom resided."
: ̗̀➛ in an alternate version of victorian-era britain, jane shoringfield is seeking a marriage of convenience that will allow her to continue working, with all the benefits of being a married woman, and she finds this in dr augustine lawrence. however, he has one condition - she can never visit lindridge hall, his family manor outside of town, where he himself will sleep each and every night. but on their wedding night, an accident strands jane at the door in a rainstorm, and in place of her husband she finds a terrified, paranoid man who cannot tell reality from nightmare. by morning he is himself again, but jane knows something is terribly wrong at lindridge hall.
: ̗̀➛ i picked this up looking for a fun, spooky little read, but am sad to say that i absolutely did not like it. the characters were fickle, the plot twists were unsurprising and revealed poorly, and the storyline was all over the place. sadge!
: ̗̀➛ sold itself as a gothic ghost horror, but didn't live up to that at all [for me!] heavily inspired by crimson peak, and it doesn't care if you know it.
: ̗̀➛ also - when your 'independent strong female' mc marries a guy who lies constantly and makes up bullshit and every time she confronts him he boo-hoos so she forgives him immediately cause he really is a nice man?? womp womp.

for your next poem/story (pt. 1)
AESCLEPIUS WAND

The Wand or Rod of Aesclepius is a symbol of the medical profession.
The symbol belongs to the Greek God of Healing whose name it bears.
Although the origins of many symbols are indeterminate, there is a theory that the Aesclepius Wand came about due to the method of removal of a certain parasite that was drawn gradually from the body by winding it around a stick.
However, the serpent is a powerful symbol of healing, despite its toxic nature.
In general, the symbol of the serpent rising up toward the top of a pole or tree is representative of matter transforming into spirit and of enlightenment.
AKWABA

This is an African fertility symbol belonging to the Ashanti tribe.
The Akwaba is a doll, usually carved of wood, which commands the same attention as a real infant.
It is dressed, washed, and even “fed” until the human child is actually born, an example of sympathetic magic believed to ensure the arrival of the true baby.
AMULET

Although it is worn on the body as a piece of jewelry, the amulet is different from “normal” jewelry in that it holds a magical significance that is peculiar to its owner or wearer.
Generally, the powers of the amulet fall into two specific categories, either to bring luck or to avert evil;
either of these qualities arguably reflect a positive or negative attitude on the part of the owner.
The talisman is effectively the same thing as an amulet although its name derives from an Arabic word meaning “magic picture.”
A charm made specifically and inscribed with the names of the spirits, the Seal of Solomon, and other mystical symbols is more likely to be referred to as a talisman.
Significant symbols for use as amulets include birthstones (or other gems according to their magical powers), astrological signs, specific symbols such as the Hand of Fatima or the cornus, and symbols specific to the religious and spiritual beliefs of the wearer, such as the cross, the star, words, names, and numbers.
Incidentally, both amulets and talismans are referred to as “charms;” the origin of this word has the same root as the Latin word for “song,” indicating the link between a magical sound and a magical intention.
ANKH

Essentially the tau cross surmounted by a loop or circle, the ankh is a prominent feature of Ancient Egyptian reliefs, artworks, and funerary paraphernalia.
Like the tau, the ankh is a letter; specifically, it is a hieroglyph meaning “life.”
The volume of meaning that can be squeezed from such a simple symbol is awe-inspiring.
The ankh represents the male and female genitalia, the Sun coming over the horizon, and the union of Heaven and Earth.
This association with the Sun means that the ankh is traditionally drawn in gold—the color of the Sun—and never in silver, which relates to the Moon.
Putting aside the complexities of these separate elements, though, what does the ankh look like?
Its resemblance to a key gives a clue to another meaning of this magical symbol.
The Egyptians believed that the Afterlife was as meaningful as the present one, and the ankh provided the key to the gates of death and what lay beyond.
Powerful symbols frequently stray across into other cultures despite their origins, and the ankh is no exception.
Because it symbolizes immortality and the Universe, it was initially borrowed by the 4th century Coptic Christians who used it as a symbol to reinforce Christ’s message that there is life after death.
The ankh is used by the Rosicrucians too.
Even though its actual invention is shrouded in thousands of years of mystery, the ankh symbol can be bought in any high street jewelry store anywhere in the world.
ARROW

Symbol of flight, penetration, and direction.
As a weapon, the arrow is a symbol of the power of the person who carries it, along with the bow.
As a sacred symbol, it is the attribute of the Goddess of the Hunt, Artemis/Diana, as well as of Eros, who uses his arrows to pierce the people’s hearts with love.
The arrow also serves as a phallic symbol and an emblem of masculine power.
The symbol of the heart pierced with an arrow, popular on Valentine’s Day cards, is a covert symbol of sexual union.
As a symbol of direction, it works on a physical level and a metaphorical level.
The arrow that shoots high up into the sky is an emblem of the link between Earth and Heaven, a symbol of an idea, or of a message being carried directly to the Gods.
The arrow is used, too, as an analogy for swiftness and sureness, since the arrow travels in the direction in which it is shot.
The astrological sign of Sagittarius, the hybrid creature that is always depicted in the process of shooting an arrow from his bow, has a Latin root, sagitta; this means “arrow” and is derived from a verb, sagire, that means “to perceive keenly or quickly.”
Therefore, the arrow is symbolic of quick-wittedness and intuition.
Arrows were used by the ancient Arabians, Chaldeans, Greeks, and Tibetans in a form of divination called Belomancy:
This was practiced by shooting arrows in the air and reading a meaning from the direction of the arrows or their positions in relation to each other.
For example, crossed or touching arrows meant “no.”
Later, the arrows had words written on them to make any answers even more definitive.

Where do I even begin? I should start by mentioning that this little piece was inspired by multiple books including but not limited to: "The Meek One" by Dostoyevsky, "Lolita" by Nabokov, "American Psycho" by Bret Easton Ellis and "The Iliad" by the one and only Homer.
This is the toned-down version. I felt that the original was much too explicit to post, but nevertheless it will continue to live in my drafts. Keep in mind, that this version may still be incredibly violent for a part of the audience. Read at your own risk.
Henry, meus cupitus, the last season of the year. My sin, my soul. Henry Winter marching down the banks with his umbrella and books.
He was Henry when we spent our weekends at Francis’ country house, rowing on the lake, finding out about the moon landing. Henry Winter was him, spreading around campus like a dark November mist or in Julian’s attentive green eyes. But he was and still is Henry Marchbanks Winter ever since my ears listened to the convoluted story of the scar; ever since he started forgetting the Latin diary in my sight; ever since our ἕνωσις.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, what right have you to judge me? No one should speak of love in the third person, for it is intangible, running so differently through our bones, that it mimics our soul’s very rhythm and so drowns each of us with unique scents, extorted from the desire for which we spill blood. And yet, here it is, my poor heart standing trial for its depth. Little lords and gentlewomen of the jury, I urge you to be magnanimous and instead ask yourself: how will I ever stay behind all on my own? 
We met at Hampden. Our fates intertwined unexpectedly, gloriously, under the pressure of Julian’s classes and consequently under his guiding gaze. We were each other’s equal, neither of us possessing the ability to surpass the other. Though our views on matters weren’t, generally speaking, that different we still somehow managed to find little details so insignificant that the vast majority forget. What I believed in he stood against. What he stated I debated. A continuous chase between cat and mouse, except neither of us hid in walls. Oh, please, listen, how beautifully we were at each other’s throat with winged words whispered by Pallas Athene herself! With every class, my desire to stomp on his toes, to cut out his tongue and compare it to mine, to reduce him to absolute submission grew. As I’m sure did his. My only wish, which Zeus who drives the storm clouds later granted me, was to have him under my despotism. It was sickly divine and it consumed my insides raw. 
Fate is funny in its own sadistic way. And so, despite everything, despite every warning that I’m sure his precious guts gave him, he fell in stride with me. Dangerous, obsessive me. Slowly, with every argument we lost ourselves in the other’s carefully crafted web, our souls moving to do their twisted dance. We couldn’t stop and certainly, we did not want to stop mixing that which made us two. The knot of selves was but a mere preamble to the waltz of unification we performed under the influence of all the gods above. 
Now, most esteemed jury, that you understand the extent of our strange relationship, I can begin to narrate the following events: his demise (and the attempt of mine). I’ll tell it as I myself see fit and understand. That’s the horror of it for me, that I understand everything.
On October 11th of a certain year which I fail to recall, we were sitting against each other on the couch in his apartment, talking, quietly laughing, wasting our minds with wine as one does during the exam period. Take note, that Henry is reserved while his usual self, however, alcohol slightly enables the more emotive side of him. Through our conversation, he grew serious. I didn’t have to ask I knew he was going to tell me.
“You ruin me. You must know since you keep doing it.” Henry mumbled under his breath.  “You lurk through the darkest depths of my mind,” I looked at him, his expression a mirror of mine “I wander dazed, like Hades’ dead undead, unable to form a single coherent thought.” He scoffed. “You are my worst nightmare.” 
I remember closing my eyes for a moment. Knowing he was suffering because of me filled me with bliss. I could see that he was terribly irritated with his emotions, but I wasn’t going to soften anything. Oh no, on the contrary, seeing him in such a state made me deliberately want to intensify it. And then I opened my eyes only to find him, him, holding a knife to my throat.
“This has to stop.” He said solemnly, yet my gaze fell on his shaky hand. “I don’t want to plague my rationality further with you.”
I knew that all he had was his mind. And so, when I felt the sharp metal press against my neck; when I saw his determined, icy gaze I knew I had to twirl around him again. To prove to him that we are far from equals, that I am the sublime.
“You don’t have to love me.” I started out almost desperately, though it was only a trick, I assure you.  “Don’t answer me anything, don’t take any notice of me at all, and only let me look at you from the corner, turn me into your thing, into your little dog..” I whispered.
With his thumb, he wiped away the wetness falling from my eyes (not tears). He was distracted and so I gripped his arm turning it away from my throat and towards his chest. He reacted and used his force to push it in my face. I stopped it with my free hand just before the tempting edge deflated my round eye and all the liquid from it spilled on my face. However, doing so, Henry did severe my ring finger. It ripped from the last jagged skin and juicy flesh that held it tied to my stained hand, fell on the sofa and rolled down onto Henry’s oriental rug with a barely audible thump, all while leaving dark red stains behind. I got up and used my body to push him to the ground. I step on my lost finger. It lets out a crack. He drops the knife due to the force and I get my greedy hands on it. He hurried to get up but I straddled his hips and kissed him, pushing my wet tongue into his warm mouth. I lost myself in it and I only snapped out of my daze when I felt his thick blood staining my skin. Drip, drop, little ladybugs everywhere. 
I opened my eyes only to find his, or rather my, icy eyes still staring at me. What was left of my finger I dipped in blood and licked it. The glorious taste of his fluids mixed with mine exploded on my tongue and a voice whispered. And I believed it blindly, madly, terribly.
You all whom you believe yourself above me, pitiless hermaphrodites, inquire endlessly about the location of his body. It is not good manners to insist. Settle down, brutes, I’ll give you a clue just so you’ll leave me alone to mourn.
I listened to the voice that sang so sweetly in my ear. That is where his body is, in eternity with me.
Pass judgment on me, for that is why you’re here. However, you all are witnesses to my ‘crimes’, so judge yourself too, with the guidance of the Gods, for every accusation that leaves your wretched lips is a cast of your own dark depths. Answer if you are without sin: is it wrong to prove yourself to the one you love?

I'm sorry if you answered this already, but Would Bill be able to open gates, because I would think he could just think of them as 'pieces of fence that open', but again that's like loosely what doors are. So could Bill think normal doors(like doorknob swinging doors) as something like 'pieces of wall that open', 'gates of wood' or 'weird vertical roof lids', would that work or would trying to make a definition for the concept of doors not work?
Also I don't quite know if this is a spoiler, but does Bill's native language/text only require two different colours or do the colour change the meaning of the text?
Gates are definitely a kind of door, and—much like how the spell includes windows—gates clearly perform an identical enough function to doors that the spell probably internally specifies "and yes this category of object is obviously a door."
Yes, if Bill can convince himself that doors aren't [object in the internal mental category of what we perceive as doors], he could open one. Stating "a door isn't a door" is insufficient; it requires believing in your heart that this thing isn't conceptually a door. But looking at a door without mentally understanding it as a door is like trying to focus your attention on a written word without reading the word. Bill "lie until you can't remember what's a truth and what's a lie" Cipher has a bigger advantage at that than most humans, but even for him it's difficult. He's only able to use the "roof lids" trick when he's unconscious and can apply Dream Logic to the situation, doing something similar with door-doors would be even harder.
Here's my post about his native language! tl;dr the colors are irrelevant, there just have to be two, a "lighter" one and a "darker" one.
With the release of TBOB, I've decided his written language comes in two forms: a fancier "high" script and an easier "low" script. The color code used in TBOB is the "high" script, and it's fancier because you need to switch between at least* 26 different colors to write it, meaning it'd be a pain to write out by hand. The "low" script only needs two colors, Light and Dark, so it's a lot easier to write by hand.
(*"At least" because I'm assuming that Bill's language isn't actually literally English except it's written in colors, what we see in the book is just an approximation of how his language looks but his actual language would have its own words/letters/etc that don't match the Latin alphabet.)
The low script takes up a lot more space (since it could take 3 dots/dashes to write a letter that could've been represented by a single dot in high script), so it's only for handwriting; for printed documents (like books & newspapers), formal documents (like contracts), and digital documents (anything on a computer or typed & printed from a computer), the high script is used since it's easy to type out. The high script is probably hell for colorblind shapes.

@elodieunderglass (link to post here) responded days before anyone else with this image, which successfully conveys a lot of emotion in my opinion. Those are some very communicative facial expressions on the birds. I particularly like the coot, and how it's positioned to shield the chick from the sun. The real gem here, however, is the text of the post linked above, which I would describe as a prose poem about the bird depicted. I'm genuinely a bit blown away by it -- go click the link and read it for yourself.

@embervoices (link to post here) has got some kind of effect going on here that I don't know enough about art to describe, but I like the way it looks. Her post mentions the phoenix connection, which I think comes through pretty clearly in the design and pose. The linked post explains some design decisions, including which real-world birds were the inspiration for this one.

@silverhart-makes-art (link to post here) helpfully specifies that this Raggfong is resting on a bed of sea kale. The design of this bird is very good, I think, conveying a certain gravity one does not always associate with seabirds. I also like the effect created by the background; it kind of looks like it's the cover for something, you know? The linked post explains the various birds from which the artist borrowed features and why, and also discusses the evocative nature of the entry this is based on -- I'm glad people are enjoying that aspect.

@rautavaara (link to post here) has made the executive decision that this bird is actually a frog, and the drawing is frankly too pretty for me to have any kind of problem with that. Look at that border. And the wonderful color palette. Also there's a flying frog, which is very cool.

@cheapsweets (link to post here) notes an emerging theme in these entries that birds (except coots) are jerks. I honestly can't remember how consistent that theme is across all the birds... I know there are some the author likes, but there are also definitely going to be additional Birds That Are Jerks in future. I like the crown-like crest on the Raggfong, and I'm impressed by the dedication involved in doing all those little body feathers with a fountain pen. Also, if you look closely, you'll see that one of those chicks the adult Raggfong is carrying has been shown staring off in the same direction as its parent, while the other has its head turned and its eyes closed, meaning we can expect it to join the coots off to the right... and there's already a young Raggfong there, too. @coolest-capybara (link to post here) has employed her usual medieval stylization to depict a Raggfong inspired by an albatross (on the grounds that they are a seabird with "judgy" eyes... you know, I can see it). I am absolutely delighted by the scrungliness of the chick being shown here, which does indeed have the "muppet made from dryer lint" quality of a real albatross chick. They have also included a series of pictures that show the whole life cycle, which I've decided (after substantial back-and-forth) to not copy over here as there's a certain color-of-the-sky quality there, but which I strongly encourage you to click on the link and look at for yourself. I particularly like that the coot in the "life cycle" picture appears to have a couple Ilyechams in her flock in addition to the new Raggfong.

@moustawott (link to post here) describes their Raggfong as a gannet mixed with an eagle, and it looks pretty majestic, honestly. The background really enhances that effect, and I think it makes a much more entertaining contrast with the two little chicks being carried below. There's a certain severity to the design that I think is fitting.

@pomrania (link to post here) has ditched the whole "coot" thing for a more direct interpretation of the Raggfong's "common counterpart", which they deem the "Ritchfong". I kind of like the idea of two related species of bird that the human observer has interpreted to have class divisions. The crest on the Raggfong is also a very appropriate touch, I think. The linked post contains additional detail on design decisions, and links to some process images, so go check that out.

@treesurface (link to post here) has decided that the Raggfong should actually be a sort of insect that people mistake for a bird, which I think is quite clever. They explain their reasoning for that a bit more in the linked post, along with some other notes on design and execution that I think are worth reading. I really like the concept that the "unmoving wings" are elytra, and the kind of glittering quality that they suggest here. (I also appreciate that they provide their own alt text.)

@karthara (link to post here) has drawn a Raggfong in several scenarios to express the behavior described in the entry. I really like the overall design here, with the feathery tufts on its head. Also charming is that one flying up near the sun -- it looks so happy to be on fire. The linked post explains the design decisions and the real-world birds from which karthara has taken inspiration. They also mention they included the coot chicks after looking them up and seeing how colorful they are, so I did a quick google and found this great headline:

Yeah. I know. The whole "fiery rebirth" thing sounds like it should be the phoenix, but this bestiary has an entry for "Phoenix" and it's not this one.
Regular listeners to the Maniculum Podcast may recall this particular eagle behavior coming up before, in the quiz-show episode we did for the second part of "Sidrak & Bokkus". I still don't really know where this idea comes from, but there you go. Eagles.

Hi, I just saw your post about Hoyo's colorism, and I'd like to bring something to the table that I've been thinking about recently, but can't be sure about whether or not it's a thing or if it's in my head
Sumeru and Natlan, for some reason, have many names that are taken from important historical figures (Al Tighnari, Ibn Al Haitham, Dihya, Kandake Amanirenas) and gods (Anahita, Sethos, Chasca, Kinich, Mahuika, Olorun, Xilonen, Iansan)
And I might be wrong, but I don't think any other nation does that, at least not to this extent??? (Except for Fontaine with Wriothesley and Neuvillette (Neville), but again: not the extent Sumeru and Natlan do it)
I don’t think this is in your head Anon.
From what I do remember, some of the names from the Mondstadt cast are translations of Latin words (ex. Diluc coming from the word “diluculum” which roughly translates to “dawn” or “twilight”, hence Diluc’s in-game skills.), and the Liyue cast names being combinations of certain words (ex. Xinyan which uses the characters 辛焱, which roughly means 辛 (xīn) "spicy" 焱 (yàn) “flame"). I don’t recall if anyone else is named after gods or a specific pantheon.
I’ll probably do a bit more research on the other names to make sure and to see if I find anything else but this is something I don’t think people have realized. I might even make an edit to the post to include this information as well because it is a big deal.

I find myself constantly inspired by the incredible talents, undeniable charisma and the unique qualities that actors Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine bring to the screen. While I hold a special place in my heart for Taylor, that does not decrease my admiration for Nick. Loving or preferring one more than the other is only natural in a fandom, but it’s important to recognize that this preference does not mean that we should spread negativity or hate. Both Taylor and Nick are exceptional in their own right, and honestly, it’s their differences that make them so captivating. 
Taylor Zakhar Perez has captured my heart with his Latino charm and boundless charisma. From his breakout role as Marco in “The Kissing Booth” film series to his more recent performance as Alex Claremont-Diaz in the film adaptation of hit novel “Red, White and Royal Blue”, Taylor consistently exudes a magnetic presence that draws viewers in. His natural ability to convey deep emotions and his dedication to his craft make him a standout in every project that he’s a part of. 
What I most admire about Taylor is his authenticity. He brings a genuine warmth to his roles, and his passion for representing Latino voices and breaking stereotypes is truly inspiring. Taylor’s commitment to telling diverse stories and highlighting the richness of Latino culture is a testament to his character and vision as an actor. His charm isn’t just skin-deep; it’s rooted in a deep understanding of his heritage and a desire to make a positive impact through his work. 
Beyond Taylor’s on-screen talent, his own personal attributes are equally compelling. His eloquent nature and ability to speak his mind without being mean are qualities that many of his fans, including me, find incredibly attractive. His intelligence and thoughtful approach to both his career and his interactions make him more than just a pretty face. His involvement in projects that resonate with his audience on a deeper level as well as his constant advocating for Latin representation, set him apart as a truly inspiring figure.  
On the other hand, the British innocence of Nicholas Galitzine has also won me over (not as much as my best friend Jam, of course). From his roles in movies like “High Strung” and “Handsome Devil” to his portrayal of Prince Henry in “Red, White and Royal Blue” and George Villiers in “Mary & George”, Nick brings a unique blend of vulnerability and strength to his characters. His ability to connect with audiences on an emotional level is remarkable. And his dedication to his roles is obvious and evident in every one of his performances. 
Nick also has a certain mystique about him that is endearing, intriguing and mysterious. His British charm, coupled with his ability to fully immerse himself in diverse roles, makes him a notable actor to watch. His journey in the entertainment industry has been nothing short of impressive, and I will eagerly anticipate every new project he takes on. 
Nick’s appeal lies in his authenticity and the depth he brings to his characters. His British innocence, combined with his talent for portraying complex characters and emotions, makes him a joy to watch. He has a knack for choosing roles that challenge him and allow him to showcase his range as an actor. His genuine nature and dedication to his craft resonate with fans who appreciate his ability to connect on an emotional level. 
Both Taylor and Nick bring something unique to the roles and projects that they bring to life. Taylor’s Latino charm and commitment to representation are incredibly impactful, while Nick’s British innocence and emotional depth offer a different kind of allure. Both of these actors have the ability to draw audiences in, not just with their looks but with the authenticity and passion that they bring to their performances. 
It’s entirely possible to have a preference for one actor over the other without decreasing the talent and value of either. While Taylor might hold a slightly larger piece of my heart, this fact does not decrease my admiration for Nick. Both actors bring something special to a project, and their unique qualities are what makes them so beloved and treasured by fans. 
Also to note that as fans, we are privileged to witness the growth and evolution of both Taylor and Nick. Their careers are filled with exciting potential, and I eagerly anticipate and await every new project that they’re gonna take on. Whether they’re working individually or on a project together, the anticipation and excitement will always remain high. 
In an industry that often pits stars against each other, it is crucial and essential to remember that admiration is not a zero-sum game. Taylor and Nick are both immensely talented and charming individuals with their own distinct careers and paths. They are also great friends, and they support each other in their professional endeavors. As fans, we should strive to emulate this aura of positivity and camaraderie. 
Now, a message to the fans: let us stop spreading negativity and tearing each other down. It honestly hurts to see fan communities divided, especially when Taylor and Nick themselves share a mutual respect and friendship. We can love one more than the other without resorting to hate or negativity. Respecting each other’s opinions and preferences is essential in creating a supportive and positive fan environment. 
Let’s continue to celebrate the diversity of talents and projects that both Taylor and Nick bring to our screens. If you prefer one over the other, that is entirely okay, but let’s do so with kindness and respect. Preface about species type:
Fugo is a human being, and as such, there's not much to say in terms of species. You probably know a human. You probably are a human (I won't assume). A majority of humans (unless cursed or blessed) are not born with any innate magical properties or capabilities like some nonhumans are. Although some human beings are capable of magic, whether learnt, spiritual, religious or bestowed, Fugo simply isn't one of them, and does not practise magic, thus making him a completely normal human.
Details related to Humanity:
Being human means that he ages normally, doesn't exceed human strength, and cannot perceive magic supernaturally. Being human does have at least one advantage; a human who neither practises magic nor carries magical objects on their person cannot really be detected by magical detection senses...They're also very frequently underestimated by monsters and other humans alike.
Details about Fugo:
Just a normal human, except he's incredibly smart and incredibly bold.
Incredibly aware of nonhumans and their shenanigans, to the point where he's wildly desensitised and frankly quite sick of it sometimes. He has had it UP TO HERE with this shit.
Nothing fazes him anymore. He's fully, 100% aware that practically everyone around him is inhuman so now he just doesn't care when they do weird shit at this point. Rarely questions this shit anymore. He just Gets It now.
Knows more about nonhumans than he's ever really wanted to. Not afraid of them in the least (anymore) and is quite well-versed with a wealth of folk knowledge, a good majority of which he learnt when he was little from his Nonna.
Particularly familiar with the Gentry. He's incredibly cautious with all his wording, especially when it comes to introductions, and he knows quite a few preventative measures and deterrents, should he ever come to need them for any reason.
Far too hard to trick with snaky language. Excellent with loopholes, too-- he was studying law, for God's sake.
Audacious enough to insult nonhumans and humans to their faces pretty indiscriminately when he thinks it's called for.
Not afraid to speak his mind to anyone and gets away without any repercussions, in part just due to the SHEER AUDACITY, but also because everyone knows what Buccellati will do if anything should happen to Fugo (who is definitely not his son).
Has seen most everyone's true forms (at least to the extent he's capable of perceiving) so he's just used to it. The others usually don't feel a need to disguise themselves when it's just him around.
Knows around 12 languages including, allegedly, Ancient Sumerian (don't ask) and Latin. Comedically he frequently corrects Buccellati when he tries to speak Latin. Often. It just kills him to hear any kind of grammatical errors.
Anaemic. Maybe the lack of iron in his blood is why Giorno wants it so badly...
An excellent strategist. Always thinking of contingencies and worst-case scenarios. This is also known as having anxiety.
Has never given any part of his identity to the Fae and he's not about to start now.
Has a crush on giorno...??? but he also constantly wants to fucking THROTTLE the bitch
So Giorno likes to do this thing where he changes his appearance slightly, just enough to be subconsciously noticeable, bit by bit, just to fuck with people. Problem is, Narancia also likes to do this, so when Giorno tried it on Fugo, Fugo nearly fucking jumped him.
"Buccellati you don't have to say 'be not afraid' every fucking time you wake me up at three in the fucking morning and i see your true form what the fuck do you want"
"Ah. Okay. Fine, Buccellati. Why don't I just stay out here and converse with the Devil, then? Hey, Abbacchio-" "FUGO!"
"What's your favourite colour?" "Snakes, do you like boys?"
Emotionally he's a broke college student, mentally a clever little rich boy, physically, a mess.
Neurodivergent. Autistic. Hyperfixates on a random-ass topic and then if your trust level is at 8 or higher he infodumps at you about literally every single thing he knows on the subject. Aggressively.
Wears tiny mirrors sewn into his tie. They're silver-backed, and serve the function of a sort of countermeasure against certain nonhumans. Obviously it doesn't work for every nonhuman, but if the person he's talking to just straight up doesn't appear in the the mirrors, then they're, of course, inhuman.
Has an ongoing argument with Mista regarding what kind of luck four-leaf clovers bring. For the sake of peace, they've decided that, since Fugo insists that ”four-leaf clovers are lucky" and Mista insists that "four-leaf anything is unlucky", then surely four-leaf clovers must be "absolutely no luck at all".
fugo dismayed, seconds apart: "I BROUGHT THIS CHILD [narancia] IN under FALSE PRETENCES and BOY AM I FUCKING PISSED ABOUT IT!!!" "-hey you stay away from him That is my gremlin brother bitch" "THIS IS NOT HOW MATH WORKS! WE HAVE BEEN OVER THIS YOU STUPID MOTHERFUCKER!!!!"

I included what you wanted but added a bunch of other stuff that contributed to the subject and turned it into a vampire ball alphabet. As much as I wanted to include all of the brothers in one post, Tumblr's limitations on posts are restricting me from doing so. ***Before we get into the alphabet and hcs, let’s get into some context about this scenario***
Since there's much more to vampire balls, I figured I'd cover a whole bunch of stuff that happens in them as well.
So, to start off, even though the Sakamakis have lives to maintain in the human realm, every so often they’re summoned back to the demon world by their father with some sort of excuse.
And one of those excuses (of many!) Karl arranges for them to attend a vampire ball every so often since he has to provide some alternate form of entertainment to his vampire nobles, so why not have his sons attend since they’re the talk amongst women in the demon realm?
It’s one of the many perfect excuses to make them come and do what Karl wants, and there may be more to this depending on what he wants from his sons.
His sons are what everyones’ eyes are on, so he expects them to be flawless in every way, including how they act and such since they’re royalty.
So, who they choose to bring to balls is no exception since they not only have to appear perfect, but their dates must be as well.
The same goes for their dancing, especially since they’ll all be participating in their own dance pieces with their dates, so it has to be perfect. Since the boys are all required to have a performance of their own, they’ve just stuck to waltzes due to tradition since they’re classy and sophisticated.
(We’ll get to the types of dances danced at vampire balls in just a sec!)
Traditionally, all members of a royal household would perform their own dance pieces before the nobles got the dancefloor for themselves and started dancing all different types of dances. And you can bet Karl definitely holds this custom strong at the royal court.
It’s something he insists on due to tradition, and bear in mind that his sons may even be forced to dance with other vampire nobles if the situation calls for it regardless of who they take to the ball as their date.
After all, if one of his sons refused to dance with a nobleman’s daughter, it would be an offense and you can bet Karl would punish any one of his sons if he found out about this.
And as their dates, you have to be prepared to dance with other nobles if they seek for your hand, and no refusal is accepted without an adequate excuse.
Bear in mind that the boys most certainly act differently in the demon realm since they need to appear “perfect”—so no “off” behavior, it is strictly forbidden and enforced by Karl himself since he has an image to uphold as the king of vampires. So basically, the bad traits they display in the human world, they’re not allowed here, or at least, some are a bit faint or muted.
The luxurious vampire stereotype originates from the Byronic Hero. So since vampires are depicted to ravish in luxury and live lavish lives, balls in demon realm are highly luxurious.
They are usually a mix of baroque or victorian in style since Karl really liked the elegance from these time periods.
Since balls encompass a mix of baroque and victorian style, the dances danced at court are usually quadrille dances, the Courante, the Bourée, the Gallopade, the Sarabande, the Laender, the Minuet, the Rigaudon, Bohemian Polka, the Gigue, the Hornpipe, the Gavotte, L’Allemande, and the Viennese Waltz.

These dances are the ones nobles usually dance since they all group together and dance after each royal family member has finished their personal performance with their date.
But Karl honestly doesn’t mind if sons don’t use the waltz as their personal dance piece because he likes being up with the times in the human world along with modern human customs.
But as mentioned before, because the waltz has been used by the boys as a tradition for so long, and it’s a classy, sophisticated dance, he’d much prefer it since you can’t go wrong because some modern dances will be viewed as vulgar even though contemporary society doesn’t view them that way.
Traditionally, men pick out their partner's dresses since women are just puppets for status display.
Since the entire ball will consist of vampires who are constantly battling to find something to quench their thirst, human servants are definitely supplied to the palace that night to not only serve the noble guests but also be their appetizers if desired. These servants are pretty lifeless and are not allowed to speak whatsoever, so they’re just thrown around anywhere by these vampire nobles and Karl could care less if they’re killed. He literally has other servants to clean up that type of mess.
And like any other ball, food will be served. At Karl’s balls, he prefers to have human world food since it’s a luxury for vampires as Reiji has mentioned. And all the nobles look forward to it because it’s not all the time that they get to have a taste of human-world food that is delicate compared to their grotesque and “off” cuisine.
Since the boys are royalty, they’ll be introduced to nobles, and you as their date will be as well.
Nobles are required to curtsy/bow to them when greeting or meeting them for the first time, so you can best bet you’ll be getting the same treatment as their date.
It’s canon that the demon realm has an official demon language, but since this is high society, most are educated, and because Karl likes adding humanistic elements to his events, he mainly requires everyone to speak English since it's the most popular language in the human world, but the demon language is still allowed
Side note: English is only taught to vampire nobles in the demon realm since Karl requires them to know it. It’s considered super high education since English belongs to a world most vampires can never go to.
Karl usually hosts his balls at his private castle where he rules the entire vampire kingdom, the main royal court basically.
Or, he sometimes holds them at the castle he has set for his sons to use when they marry off.
(It’s canon that Karl has one main castle for himself where he rules, and one for his sons to refuge to if needed. It’s also used as another home for them as seen in one of the game routes.)
Hopefully this all makes sense thus far haha!
So with this, let’s move on to the boy’s extended alphabets + additional hcs. :)

General Hcs:
He honestly hates the idea of balls in general.
And in the demon realm it’s much worse since he has to set a perfect impression due to being the heir.
@liannelara-dracula and I have headcanoned that Karl doesn’t tolerate Shu’s laziness when it comes to demon realm-related things. Karl lets Shu get away with it in the human world, but not in the demon world.
There, Shu is the heir—the next king—and the last thing Karl wants is for the heir to be viewed with an unamiable trait unfit for a future king.
So yeah, his laziness—Karl won’t tolerate it here, and Shu will receive punishments if he disappoints in anyway so.
It’s mostly because he had an image to maintain as the heir, which means having to put in effort that he doesn’t want.
In the past, balls for him were always annoying since he was presented with suitresses or had to engage in small talk with noblemen, it being just a bunch of forced effort.
As the heir, his mother nudged him a lot to choose a suitress as well, so a lot more pressure and annoyance was added.

At first, Shu refused, but when Laito said that dancing would be the perfect excuse to touch/hold his lover close and show others that they're taken, he had second thoughts about it all.

Bear in mind that vampire balls are total snake pits. There’s a lot of wandering eyes and curious ears.
Women’s lips are the main source of gossip in the royal court and they’ll try to set you up with other suitors even if you’re taken, so Shu warns you to not pay any attention to them.
“But how exactly am I supposed to shake them off without being rude?” You’d ask.
“It’s simple.” He’d answer with the usual hazy look in his eyes. “Just tell them what we do in bed and they’ll buzz off.”
“Shu!” You’d smack his arm playfully, causing him to chuckle at your reaction. “I meant more appropriate advice.”
He’d sigh. “Just ignore them, they have nothing better to do anyways.”
Also, remember that everybody there is trying to get info out of you regarding Shu since he’s the heir.
And this can be pretty intimate in query, even going down to asking if you two are planning to get married any time soon, which lets them know if they or their daughters have a chance because even if you’re Shu’s partner, it doesn’t stop others from pursuing him regardless.
Basically, in the demon realm, only married people are off-limits. Until then, they’re still considered “single.”
Shu also warns you about the male nobles as well, such as how some will try to pursue you either for fun or just an advantage since you’re close to the heir himself.
B || Behavior
🎻 How does he act at the ball? What does he do while there?
Bear in mind that at vampire balls, he’s acting.
And putting on one hell of an act considering he’s ditching his usual lazy persona and putting on the “heir” facade.
Plus, Karl’s watching his ass like a hawk to ensure he doesn’t get lazy during the event or ditch/leave early.
In general when Shu’s speaking to nobles at the ball, he’s polite but rather cold with his words. It’s all minor small talk that he’s simply not interested in, but gives it his all because he can’t be rude or avoid conversation unless he wants to be sent to the North Pole again, or better yet, outer space (it’s canon that he’s worried about being sent there next for a punishment).
As for you, he likes to keep you close to him since he doesn’t want others roping you into trouble since this isn’t a world you’re familiar with.
C || Class ranking
🎻 Which social classes are allowed at vampire balls? In the world of royalty, only specific classes of nobles are allowed to speak to the noble family. So with this, which ranking of classes is he comfortable speaking with, or does he not care about this sort of thing at all?
In general (apart from the royal family), only dukes/duchesses, marquis/marquises, counts/countesses, earls/viscounts/viscountesses, and barons/baronesses are allowed to participate in royal balls since it takes place at court.
In addition, an invitation is required in order to enter and participate at the ball.
When it comes to nobles speaking to him, Shu could care less about which class they’re in.
I mean, it’s canon that he brought Edgar to a ball when they were kids so he could participate, so class ranking is the last thing on his mind since Edgar was a village boy. Shu could honestly care less about that shit.
If someone approaches him even if they’re not supposed to according to their class, he’ll speak to them regardless, but will try to brush them off quickly since he doesn’t want to attract attention.
Sadly, it just looks bad in the demon realm for him to speaking with someone of lower rank.

D || Dance lessons
🎻 How does he teach/prep his s/o for dancing at the ball?
Now, when it comes to dancing, it’s just something that Shu knows how to do due to being the heir, not something he really enjoys like a certain fedora-wearing vampire.
But because you’re going with Shu, he actually doesn’t mind it, but he considers prepping to be a bit of a drag.
He was pretty apathetic about teaching you at first.
Not because you sucked or anything, it was just because he was being his usual lazy self.
You both had just returned home from school and were now standing in the manor’s ballroom.
With the usual hazy look on his face, he’d sigh, “Let’s just get this over with.”
As stated before, each member of a royal household has to have a dance of their own with the person they bring to the ball (the waltz I mentioned earlier); and these are performed before the nobles have the dancefloor to themselves and dance among themselves along with members of the royal family.
Since he has to perform a dance of his own with you, he’ll definitely focus more on that special waltz than the other dances since this is the one that really has to set an impression.
But he’ll also be teaching you other dances as well since you might have to dance with other nobles if you’re asked to.
Shu would begin by teaching you the basics of the waltz first, such as how to hold his hand and where to place the other, even going down to how close you two need to be in order to dance properly.
When you first started, you thought you were close enough to him, but that was until he put a hand on your lower back and pulled you closer to him, almost to the point where you felt that you were grinding into him.
A subtle hint of blush rose to your cheeks due to the proximity, and of course, because he noticed and loves to tease you, he has to say something.
“Heh, admit it, you like being on me.”
“Shut up!”
And bear in mind that this is only the beginning of his antics.
Shu’s not strict like Reiji when it comes to teaching you, but bear in mind that he’s expecting you to dance right and make it look presentable at least (to which you are of course!).
When it would come to movement, Shu would begin to teach you where to step, but in all honesty, he insists you follow his lead since he gets lazy to explain.
Just let him do all the work for once, seriously.
If you’re wearing leggings, tight pants, or short shorts, he’s definitely going to smack/clutch your ass while practicing with you.
Like, you’ll be so focused on following his lead along with the music, that you’re letting your guard down, which is where he’ll decide to throw you off.
“Shu, quit it! You made me mess up.”
“What? You’re the one that got distracted.” He’d smirk, playing oh-so innocent.
If he’s dipping you, he’ll purposely drop you just to annoy you.
“Shu!” You’d complain, pain echoing in your body due to the sudden impact of hitting the ground.
“Heh, my bad.” He’d chuckle, a smirk soon following. “Guess I forgot to catch you.”
“Ugh!”
Even though he won’t admit it, but he does like to twirl you. He just loves the idea of spinning you and roping you back into his arms. He also thinks you look pretty while doing so.
Because he’s preparing you for something he has to make a perfect impression on, you can imagine the practice goes on for quite a while.
At some point, if you get tired and your breath begins to hitch due to it, he’s definitely going to be an ass and tease you about it, his stamina far above your own.
“Heh, are you tired already? You usually last longer when we-,”
“Shut up!” You’d say, playfully hitting his arm, leading him to laugh.
Luckily though, Shu’s lead isn’t very tough to follow and you end up picking up his style and pace, thus dancing pretty well with him.
Shu does rectify a few things in order to hone your skills, but isn’t too picky—as long as it’s right and looks presentable to a noble audience, that’s all he’s expecting from you.
Not like Reiji where he expects perfection.
As for the other dances, they were fairly complicated when it came to movement and speed, and you kept stepping on his feet or in the wrong direction.
Surprisingly, he doesn’t get mad or even irked no matter how many times you’d mess up, he actually found it funny.
Sometimes, he’d even trick you and make you go in the wrong direction when it was supposed to be the opposite, which led you to scold him every time he’d do it since he found it amusing how much you trusted him.
“Shu, stop it. At this rate, I’ll never get it.”
“Heh, who told you to trust me?” He’d slightly smirk.
Will sometimes poke your sides to make you jolt and mess up.
But nonetheless, with enough practice and teasing, you ended up learning the other dances pretty well and felt pretty prepared for the ball.

🎻 How does he teach his s/o ball etiquette (language and actions)? How does he teach his s/o ball-relevant table manners?
In general, when it comes to teaching you he barely explains.
He usually explains about once or twice because he's too lazy to reiterate and practice/demo with you.
He is so vague about everything, it’s enough to drive anyone crazy. It’s the lazy-ass in him.
When covering table etiquette, he gets exponentially lazy with explaining what each utensil is for.
For example, he’ll tell you that a utensil is for something specific, and then when speaking about it again, he’ll tell you it’s for something else.
"Shu, a minute ago you said that spoon was for soup!"
"Oh, really?” He’d say, his voice tainted with its usual haze. “Guess I was thinking about the second spoon then."
He'll even make up rules just to throw you off.
Or to make matters worse, he’ll just start making up stuff that’s enough to have your eyes roll.
“They say the people that start with the third spoon have really dirty minds.”
Countering his remark, you’d say, “Then I can guess which one you start with.”
He’d only end up laughing at your remark, finding it amusing as his teasing is relentless to cease.
If you're really struggling tho, he’ll step in and help a bit more.
But he honestly just loves teasing you and seeing you mess up since he finds you getting angry to be amusing and hot.
While you’re busy looking at the set plate in front of you and trying to figure out which utensil to pick up next without his help, he’ll purposely throw you off such as poking your side or licking your ear.
“Shu, quit it! I have to figure this out.” You’d scold.
“It’s the first fork on the right.” He’d say, revealing the answer to which utensil you were supposed to pick up next.
“Ugh! You weren’t supposed to tell me. I’m the one who has to figure it out.”
When teaching you the proper ball etiquette (language/movement), it’s honestly an adventure.
You actually end up forcing him to practice because you need help since you don’t want to say the wrong thing, and like usual, is he much help? Nah.
He will laugh if you mess up, and if you ask him for clarification he’ll lie to you just to embarrass you during practice.
Of course, you'll realize that he's messing with you sooner than later, which leads you to playfully hit him, to which he laughs and gets a kick out of.
And after enough teasing, he'll then tell you what you actually have to do, such as how to take his arm when walking and such.
If you do or say something that is a little too scandalous for a ball during practice, he'll point it out.
For example, at some point you wanted to take off your silk gloves (you’ll be wearing them at the ball obviously, so why not practice with them on) during practice because it was getting a little warm after wearing them for a while.
And with this, Shu would be quick to say something since women removing their gloves was considered sexual at one point. And in the demon world, they still think that way.
“Well, aren’t you a lewd woman.” He’d tease.
“What?” You’d question, having no idea what he’s talking about.

Feeling confused, you’d say, “All I did was take them off?”

Shu prefers that you stick by his side during the ball to avoid the trouble of people pestering you and possibly roping you into trouble.

As mentioned before, men pick their partner’s dresses according to demon world tradition.
Shu honestly wanted you to pick it out since he could care less about some silly custom of the ancients, but Karl wasn’t having this since like I mentioned before, he has no tolerance for his laziness for demon world-related things.
So, considering this is a vampire ball, which showcases luxury of all sorts, the dresses are expected to be extravagant and princess-like whether someone likes it or not—so it means layers upon layers before finally putting the actual dress on.
And all that layering was quite annoying, but pain is beauty as they say.
And with this, Shu teases you about the layering, but more so in a lewd way.
“Y’know, you can’t say this is exactly fair.” He’d say, eyeing you in the gown. “All those layers will be tiresome to take off you after the ball is over.”

🎻 Undoubtedly, since you’re this prince’s date, people are going to have a million questions about you. So when asked about you, how does he speak about you to other nobles? What does he consider you as/what does he think of you?
Shu already knows that he’s going to be bombarded with a lot of questions regarding you, so it’s no surprise to him when it happens.
He actually handles this subject pretty well and is rather prepared.
Since you’re his date and not married to him in this scenario, he just tells nobles that you’re someone he’s interested in whenever he’s prompted with this question.
The reason why he doesn’t say you’re his girlfriend or whatever is simply because it isn’t sophisticated in this world because nobles are old-fashioned and still stuck in the Baroque and Victorian periods.
And who back then called a woman their girlfriend back then? No one. It was either they were pursuing them to become their wives or they already were.
Shu has to drop the modernism here since the ball’s guests are far from understanding modern customs to which he can his brothers have somewhat adapted to.
I mean, it’s not like the Diaboys have accepted every modern idea from the human world.
So Shu has to be very careful with his language here regarding you since he doesn’t want to come off as vulgar or too modern in an out-of-date world, especially since he’s the heir and the one most girls want to pursue because of his title.

🎻 What kind of image does he uphold at the ball?
Shu upholds the image of being the heir, and really does try his best since he doesn’t want to be punished for not acting as expected.
As was said before, he’s acting.
So no laziness or plopping down on a couch to listen to his MP3 player, or attempting to leave early—none of that!
He comes off as this dutiful heir that still has a lot to learn compared to his father, but is very well prepared for what’s to come when he succeeds the throne.
So basically, he’s viewed as perfect for his position as heir and prince at the moment—prepared, knowledgeable, but not more than his father yet.
And because Shu’s so good at faking this active-heir facade, people fall for this faulty image of him, and he’s viewed as the ultimate future king.
Karl gets lots of comments regarding Shu’s “preparedness” for the throne, to which Karl fakely appreciates.
Deep down, Karl knows his son’s just a lazy-ass that is nowhere near succeeding him and isn’t the “perfect” heir he displays himself to be.

Shu knows this is unavoidable, but there isn’t much he can do since there’s no law prohibiting it in the demon realm.
It’s viewed as respectful, and in your case specifically, it’s an honor for anyone who gets to dance with the heir’s date/partner.
Some believe that by doing this, it may secure them a place closer to the king and/or future king by dancing with their partner. So you can best bet you’re going to get asked by many at the ball.
Shu may seem controlled and demonstrate a cold exterior to everyone there, but deep down he’s a little annoyed by you having to dance with someone else.

Mmm, if there’s one thing Shu looks forward to about this entire thing (probably the only thing if he’s in the mood), it’s post-ball sex.
Especially because the ball is over and he can be himself again lol.
He really loves the idea, especially since he’s just been eyeing you all night in that dress and restraining his desire for you, being eager to put it into play.

But, bear in mind that even though Shu loves the risk of getting caught in the act or its post-state by his brothers or servants, one thing he could never live down is if Karl or his mom walked in on him in either situation.

Shu knows you’re bound to make mistakes during the ball since all of this is so new to you.
It’s not like you’ve been raised with it like he has, so he’s expecting that you’ll mess up.
And just like magic, he’s there to back you up.
For example, if you get confused about what to say with a noble when a conversation goes in a direction you didn’t expect, he’ll either interrupt or come up with an excuse to pull you away.
Or if he can’t do that, he’ll send you some kind of signal as a form of guidance on what to say next or change the subject.
Overall, he has your back the entire time and knows you’ll be fine, but still, he’ll step in in some way if he deems it necessary or senses that you’re having trouble.

🎻 What’s he like at the dining table with you?
Shu actually doesn’t mind the dinner table part of the evening.
It’s mostly because he gets to sit down. xDD
And here you’d think he’d be tranquil to sit next to because he’s sitting down and relaxing, but he’s a teasing fuck.
He’s going to do everything in his power to tease you, especially since you’re stuck at the table in front of many others for as long as the dinner session lasts.

🎻 How is he addressed/announced? How is his s/o announced upon arrival?
As is seen in balls, guests’ names are announced upon their arrival.
It’s canon that the Sakamaki brothers are referred to as “Masters” of the household, but because they’re also royalty, they’ll be addressed differently in a hierarchical setting, especially when arriving at a ball and being announced.
And to be honest, this part is most amusing to Shu about balls since he finds announcing people’s names to be kinda funny but also cringy since it’s an old tradition.
“Heh, should I tell them to announce you by your nickname?”
“Shu, quit it!” You’d say, playfully smacking his arm, leaving him to chuckle.
Based on his royal status, he’d just be addressed as “His royal highness, Prince Shu.”
For you, Shu decided to have you addressed as “Her royal highness, Princess Y/N” despite you not having the actual title of princess.
By having you addressed this way, it gives you a higher position in court and a much grander presence and entrance. He mostly wanted it this way because you’re special to him and doesn’t want people to think you have no title.
Just be prepared to answer questions about your “royal family” and connections since nobles are curious, especially since you’re the heir’s date. But no need to worry, Shu prepared you for this part.
But at the end of the day, this title bs doesn’t it doesn’t really matter because you’re still his princess anyways, title or no title. :)
O || Objection
🎻 Since you’re not married to him, suitresses are bound to be presented to him at the ball regardless since people believe he’s still “available,” despite you being in the picture. So, how does he handle this situation with you around?
Shu acts pretty distant and kind of colder than he usually does in this situation.
And let’s just say that some girls are a little irritated by this factor, especially if they’ve danced with him in the past and were looking for some sort of chance of pursuing him.
It honestly gets so bad that girls brush up on him just to make you pissed off.
And their scheming is just so obvious since they keep making faces and demonstrating gestures that literally prove that they’re trying to steal him from you, which leaves you pretty irritated, but Shu warned you about this before hand so it’s something you expected.
However, it’s still pretty annoying….
And these girls literally do anything to get his attention since they’re interested in pursuing the heir, such as coaxing him to dance with them, to which he has to do because punishment awaits if he offends a noble.
The girls will even try to pull him aside for themselves or just engage in conversation a little longer than needed. And you can bet those conversations lead or have the potential to be semi-sensitive in nature.
Shu would take note of your irritated aura, finding it amusing that you were jealous since it proves to him that he’s your weakness.
But as stated before, he warned you about this and is aware that you know, and that you have to tolerate it based on royal etiquette.
But as a form of reassurance, he sends you a few looks here and there and watches you go about the ball on your own as he’s busy doing whatever with the noblewomen.
The stares he gives you are kinda like his form of morse code if you will. He’s forced to act respectively to other nobles even if they have intentions he doesn’t like, so it’s not like he can say much here.
P || Performance
🎻 How’s he like when he dances with you at the ball?
Ah, the moment you’ve both been preparing for, it being a bit nerve-racking in all honesty.
Shu knows it’s impossible for you to remember everything he taught you, so he just tells you to go with what you remember and to follow his lead.
Due to him having so much experience with this, he makes the dance look perfect if you forgot, it’s honestly surprising.
Don’t ask me how he does it lol.
He may minorly converse with you during the dance tho, and possibly whisper lewd things in your ears to get you to blush.
Although, Shu may throw a move in the dance you two didn’t practice, it’s mostly because he lives for catching you off guard. As discussed, some modern dances in the demon world may be viewed as vulgar, but because Shu’s the heir, he can get away with adding a bit of spice in there to show that he’s cultured regarding the human world, to which Karl doesn’t mind, as long as the move isn’t too scandalous.
So with this, Shu may do something like lifting you or dipping you, to which you give him the most surprised face since it wasn’t practiced while he just gives you a small smirk in return.
And you can best bet that with seeing this, every other woman in there wants the same treatment from him since he’s a favorite among the pursual of noble women. xDD
In the times when balls were used, if two danced more than two dances together, people automatically assumed the pair was engaged—so you can best bet that this is how people think at court in the demon world since they’re old fashioned.
So with this, Shu likes to dance more than two dances with you to make everyone think you’re engaged to him so it eases the pestering of nobles—in other words, it gets people to screw off you and him a little in regards to romantic pursuals.
But like hell Shu would tell you what dancing more than twice with each other means.
He just prefers to be secretly scandalous with you being oblivious to it, but may tell you about this later on if he wants to tease you.
Q || Quarrel
🎻 If you two had a fight before the ball or a minor spat during the ball, how will he deal with the heavy aftermath when surrounded by nobles and expected to uphold the family image?
Shu’s not really the type to fight, but it’s very possible that you could quarrel with the narcoleptic vampire before or during the ball.
It’d be a pretty unexpected thing since Shu’s pretty carefree and kind of difficult to fight with since he’s easygoing.
But whatever the case, if you two did have a fight/spat before or during the ball about whatever, you best bet he’s going to do everything in his power to get your attention that night.
Even though he’s already dropping his laziness for this event, he’ll go out of his way even more to talk to you.
And if you’re giving him the silent treatment, it only intrigues him to pursue you more because he hates the fact that you’re ignoring him.
And that’s the thing, Shu hates it when you do that, especially because he knows that the fight could’ve gone better than it did.
Bear in mind that he’ll do lots of different things to get your attention tho, and he’s petty af about it all.
He’ll range from doing all sorts of things because he wants to fix it, such as staring at you from far away, leaving you to avert your gaze elsewhere.
If he says something to you and you don’t give a response, he’ll make you jealous by him dancing with another girl and putting his hand on the back of her shoulder, which is pretty suggestive since the vampires at this ball are centuries old and have a different mindset regarding the concept of touch.
Tries to get you alone so he can talk to you, or if you’re standing on the sidelines not talking to anyone, he’ll get sly and try to approach to talk to you, to which you ignore or end up walking away from him.
Shu may even get mischievous with his approach if he sees that you keep avoiding him in every possible way, such as if he’s coming your way, you instantly revert to going a different way to keep clear of him, or look for some kind of excuse to get away from him.
For any Anna Karenina fans out there (ME! xDD), he’ll act like the way Vronsky did with Anna in that one scene where he’s going around the room trying to ask her to dance while she’s trying to avoid him in every possible way.

R || Rendezvous
🎻 Is he the type to ditch/leave balls early with his s/o?
He wants to, but he knows he’s going to be severely punished for it since Karl’s expecting a lot from him.
I mean, how does it look if the heir leaves early without an adequate excuse? It just doesn’t look right.
It’s almost like a host leaving their party and leaving the guests to carry it on. Long story short, it just doesn’t put someone in a good light really, him especially as the heir.
Karl cares a little less if his other sons leave early, it just depends on who it is, but it can’t be too early either.
But when it comes to Shu, Karl expects him to stay the entire time and not present excuses since deep down, Karl knows that Shu’s just trying to get out of it and avoid his heir-responsibilities.
In the past, Shu ditched once and he learned the hard way. Like, he paid dearly for it and Karl hadn’t even sent him to the North Pole yet.
Believe me, if Shu could, he would leave early—or better yet, not show up at all since he finds all of this to be a drag, but because he doesn’t want to be punished, he does what he’s told to the bitter end of the event.
S || Speech
🎻 Does he have to give a speech at the ball? If yes, what is he likely to include in it?
As the heir, he’s definitely required to give a speech every so often.
Shu’s not super talkative in general, so he likes to keep things short and sweet in his speeches.
The subjects of these speeches are pretty general in nature, ranging from what his current plans are as the heir, how he’s planning to pursue his Royal oaths, or new ideas Karl wants to implement into the kingdom, all ending with the same ending of thanking everyone for attending and that everyone’s enjoying themselves.
So, business speeches in other words. Nothing personal since he’s not allowed to express an opinion as the heir.
T || Touch
🎻 What types of manners does he exhibit with his s/o in front of others?
Since he’s the heir, he has to be very careful with how he behaves around you, and how he interacts with you since others are constantly laying their eyes on him.
He’s mostly pretty reserved and mostly just links his arm with yours since intertwined hands are not viewed as sophisticated at balls.
He’ll sometimes hold your hand in that rather delicate fashion if he has to walk or lead you somewhere, kinda like this.
At the very most, he’ll either kiss your hand or your forehead, never anything more than that in front of others since it’s considered vulgar at balls.
And bear in mind that a kiss to the forehead will only be given once during the entire evening, otherwise, it starts to look scandalous. It says a lot just doing it once.
If you’re standing next to him or slightly in front, he sometimes lightly touches your upper arms or shoulders, just to reassure you that he’s there and that you’re his girl and no one else's.
U || Unity
🎻 What does he wear to show his unity with you? Like a matching ring or outfit, for example?
In order for Shu to indicate and show that you’re taken, you both decide to wear matching couple rings to the event.
Or if Shu really wants to be bold, he’ll take things a step further in showing that you’re his.
Since it’s canon that he likes to bite and drink blood from fingers, he may bite one of your fingers and leave the mark of his fangs on it for others to see.
Or he even may bite the back of your hand, this way if a noble has to kiss your hand before dancing with you, they’ll know that you’re marked as Shu’s and will think twice about having other ideas regarding you.
Oh, this devious little shit.
V || Valiant
🎻 Every prince is known to be noble for something. What is he noble for?
Believe me, for Shu to be born as the next heir, there’s a real reason for this.
@liannelara-dracula and I think that in the demon realm, heirs are chosen by some type of fate or magical force beyond any immortal’s power.
And this force specifically chooses specific individuals to be rulers for their kingdoms, be they either Vampires, Viboras, Wolves, Adlers, or First Bloods.
And if this “force” sees that anyone else takes the place of the heir it originally chose, this “force” considers it an imbalance and because of this change against “fate,” it may cause chaos/ruin to the certain kingdom, thus, leading it to fall.
In one of the game routes, Reiji himself specifically said that being king of the vampires is harder than anyone can imagine and imposes a large amount of responsibility. Reiji also stated that Shu possesses qualities that are fit for him to be on the throne, whereas he does not.
So with this, it really seems to show that specific people are chosen to be heirs for a reason.
We seriously think it’s the force lmao. xDD
So, because Shu’s actually meant to be king (apart from his lazy facade) and possesses qualities fit for the throne, he’s actually noble for quite a few things even though his laziness prevents him from being someone greater.
He’s probably most noble for being decisive. When he’s hit with making a decision, he chooses a side and stays with it until the bitter end. Once his mind is made up about something, there’s no changing him.
He’s also the type to remain calm even if everything around him is falling apart, making him really centered since he keeps his composure and acts upon the situation instead of expressing emotion towards it. So, he’s definitely noble for this trait as well.
After all, as he grew up, he was constantly reminded by his mother to not let his emotions get the best of him and that a king must never express his opinion nor how he really feels since he must be seen as this rock the entire kingdom sits upon, that it can not falter even the slightest no matter what the kingdom goes through.
W || Words of admiration
🎻 At the end of the ball, it's proper for guests to leave cards for the host about how the balls were and such. So, how does he feel about reading cards addressed to him specifically since he's royalty?
Because Shu’s on the edge of seat to get out of there, you two view the cards the next morning.
Not that he’s very interested, but because you are, he bothers to listen and look through them with you.
Some of the letters are written in their demon world language, so he’s gonna have to translate those for you lol.
After any ball Karl has hosted, Shu would honestly get so many cards it's ridiculous. It’s just endless piles of letters that he’d never read and would tell the servants to burn because he could care less.
Or in worst-case scenarios, Karl would force him to read them in hopes of choosing a future wife if a girl’s letter piqued his interest. This is because Karl’s a big-time advocate of finding a woman’s words to be enticing, and he figures that Shu may be like him in that sense.
Oh the weird kinks of the vampire king
But anyways, Shu makes an exception to read them with you for your sake since you deem it as right to read them in the first place. It’s just plain courtesy.
Oh geez, I sound like Rei rn lmao xDD.
“Aw, look at this one.” You said, beginning to read it aloud, “To a lovely couple and future king and queen. I wish you all the best. Thank you for gracing us with a beautiful evening.”
“Heh, sounds like every other letter.” Shu would smugly comment, his back against his chair as he appeared to be fed up.
“Shu!”
“What? Everyone says exactly the same thing in these letters . . . .” Drawling further with the usual haze in his voice, he’d add, “Whatever…”
Sighing deeply, you’d nudge, “Could you at least try reading one? It’ll take me hours to get through all of these myself.”
“It’s too much of a bother. I don’t have the energy.”
You rolled your eyes. “Fine.”
Leaning over in your chair, you extended an arm to grab a few more letters from the pile, only to feel a large hand clutch your ass.
Whipping your head in his direction, you scolded, “Shu!”
“What?” He’d say, acting oh-so-innocent.
“You don’t have the energy to read the letters, but yet you have the energy to do that.”
“You’re right there, plus, I didn’t say I didn’t have the energy to do nothing.”
“Whatever.” You’d sass, leaving him to chuckle as you sat down again, his lips quickly finding themselves on your neck as he adorned it with a small kiss.
“Heh, you’re feisty today. If you want me to read them with you, I will on one condition.”
“And that is?”
“Strip.” He’d suggest.
“Shu!”
Honestly, can anyone ever get him to do anything without a scandalous price?

🎻 Is this event heaven or hell for him?
To be honest, its more of a hell for him.
Especially because he’s constantly being bombarded by suitresses and nobles who are dying to speak with the heir or have a potential chance with him.
It’s all just bothersome to him since deep down he knows most are out for his title.
But because you’re there with him, the ball is much better, more bearable even.
It actually isn’t too bad tbh.
But Shu honestly can’t wait until he gets home so he can take his suit off and your dress and jump into bed after a long night.
And you can best bet you’ll be spending a lot of time cuddling with him since he claims you’re his favorite body pillow and his remedy to truly relax.

🎻 What’s something he yearns for during this event?
To leave lmao. xDD
But apart from this, he really just wants to spend time alone with you.
If he can step away for a little, Shu likes to take you to another part of the castle ground, more specifically the garden/courtyard so he can go for a walk with you just to talk and tease.
I said this in another post, but I’ll say it again, if Shu really wants to get scandalous and has a bit of time to spare, he likes ditching the ball and going into a secluded, closed-off room with him for a bit of intimacy with you before going back out to face all the guests again.
And if by any chance you forget to fix your hair and come out looking like a mess that’s been under the touch of Mr. Heir, Shu’s all for it and will send you seductive stares from afar even if he’s busy conversing with other noblemen.

🎻 Is there anything he’s passionate about regarding the ball?
Nothing really.
Shu’s just attending this ball as a total chore set upon him by his father. And it’s been this way for as long as he can remember.
He may enjoy a classical piece or two played by the band at the ball, but other than that, there’s literally nothing he’s passionate about since this is a forced gathering with a bunch of people who are out for his title, and he knows this all too well by now.
Although, with you around, the night becomes much more bearable and feels like it goes by faster because as they say, time goes by when you’re having fun.
So even though he’s not free to do whatever he wants with you because he’s in the company of nobles and playing the “perfect” heir, he’s still happy you’re around because it distracts him from the cons of balls.

🎻 Y’know how many girls Shu’s brought to balls in the past? Too many to count.
🎻 It was always been the same thing for him, and these “dates” were always ranged from girls his mother forced him to bring, suitresses his father presented him, or some high class snob from Ryoutei or his father’s dinner parties in the human world from time to time.
🎻 And each time it was a different experience depending on the girl he brought.
🎻 Some would constantly smother, nag and/or annoy him, to which he found cumbersome. But of course, he had to act polite since Karl would punish him if he was rude, but Shu wasn’t afraid to be colder than he usual towards a girl he brought and demonstrate some indifference that was passable.
🎻 If his mother was beside him by chance and noticed this rudely “cold” behavior towards a girl or just if Shu was acting this way because he was annoyed to be at an event his father hosted, she’d minorly take hold of his arm, give him a minor pinch that was unnoticeable to others and whisper in his ear to get his act together and to stop acting “unamiable.” Shu would give his mother a slight look of annoyance and would resume his perfect heir act all over again. If it isn’t Karl that will give him a punishment for acting in such a way, it’ll be her.
🎻 But some girls Shu brought were actually nice, but he simply couldn’t bring himself to like them as a potential partner. This is mostly because Shu just hates the idea of match making and deems it as an “unnatural” way to meet a romantic partner. It’s just a turn-off to him.
🎻 Overall, his ball-dates have just been a bunch of girls he simply had little to no interest in, or if he did have some interest, it didn’t last long or was just a fling.
🎻 Random, but since this is a space where no specific category reigns, Shu would like to see you get tipsy and kinda let loose on the dancefloor.
🎻 This would seriously make his night since it would be breaking all formality, to which he’s all for since he’s tired of the rigidity his royal lineage imposes on him.

Part 2 of Most Essential Vocab, as always I’ll include notes when I think something needs more explaining and I’ll point out regionalisms when I know them. 
And if anyone has any alternate words/regionalisms they know of for things, please let me know - it helps me and everyone else too!
...I also REALLY overdid it with the food categories, but it’s pretty much the majority of things you can find in a grocery store, market, or supermarket as far as food... except for more specific things like names of fish (which I don’t always know myself, and isn’t THAT essential unless you go to the fishmonger a lot)

I’ll be including the male and female forms of things - anything with just one form is unisex
Note: Pretty much anything with -ista in it is unisex, even if it ends in A; as an example el artista or la artista. 
trabajador, trabajadora = worker [n] trabajador(a) = hard-working [adj]
abogado, abogada = lawyer abogado/a defensor(a) / la defensa = defense lawyer / defense fiscal / abogado/a de la acusación = prosecutor [generally in a trial it’s the abogado/a “attorney/lawyer” or la defensa as a general term, and then you have el/la fiscal “prosecutor”... who is also technically abogado/a but a different function]

The term mesero/a is directly related to la mesa “table” so they’re specifically the person bringing things to and from the table which no added meanings. To the best of my knowledge this is more common in Latin America; and your camarero/a is probably the cleaning crew
*Note 2: The word músico/a for “musician” is the umbrella term. Most instruments have their own word and frequently end in -ista... such as pianista “pianist”, flautista “flautist” / “flute player”, or baterista “drummer”, as well as guitarrista “guitar player” and bajista “bass player”
You’ll find more specific terms for specific sports, activities, and other skills. Many end in -ista, and some like martial arts have specific works themselves

It’s specifically the place you go to for a consulta “examination” or “medical exam”; so it’s more the actual building. In some places you will see “the doctor’s” referred to as la clínica “clinic” or “doctor’s (office)”; and in some places el hospital although this is very regional as sometimes el hospital or la clínica can carry different connotations of being privately owned or not

Some common drinks to know: la sangría is “sangria” [lit. “bloodletting” related to la sangre “blood”] which is wine with fruit. Since sangria can be kind of touristy, some places tend to have tinto de verano “summer red wine” which is often cheap red wine and some kind of fruit soda like sparkling lemonade or orange soda. Another common one is la clara which is beer and sparkling lemonade [I think close to a “shandy” in English though lord knows I rarely call it that]

There’s so much to say about eating schedules in Spanish vs English but really your experience will be different depending on if the country has a siesta culture. Just know many of the words can be HIGHLY regional
In most Spanish-speaking countries la comida is “lunch” [lit. “food”]; but in the US we typically say el almuerzo as a meal that happens at noon. Depending on where you are your entire eating schedule is different but in the US we have three meals - el desayuno, el almuerzo, la cena. Your exact meal schedule will depend on the country you’re in

¡Salud! = Cheers! [lit. “health”, said before drinking during a toast] ¡Chin-chin! = Cheers! la sobremesa = “dinner conversation” [a culture concept; la sobremesa literally is “above table” but it’s the word for talking and hanging out with friends and family over a meal, sort of like chitchat or conversation... it’s the act of growing closer “at the table”]

Many sports-related things are influenced by Greek traditions - la gimnasia as “gym” or “physical exercise” or “gymnastics” literally means “things pertaining to the gymnasium” which is where people would work out or play certain sports or exercise. And similarly el atletismo means “track and field” because it referred to the kind of sports professional athletes practiced in Greece or practiced for the Olympics... specifically the ones that used to be done outside, such as el maratón “marathon”, running, etc. Obviously we don’t have the discus or horseracing in most schools, but the Greek influence is there. And because el atleta means “athlete”, el atlestismo also refers to “athletics” in general

hello there!
this is a good question! i don't have any websites or anything like that handy, but i'll make sure to include things as i find them!
my biggest piece of advice is to observe what other drag artists are doing. there's not a rulebook or anything like that, a lot of artists go in a lot of different directions with their looks! i think it's best to try to get some exposure to the community on a large scale when and where possible and to just see what others are doing
you can think about any potential themes you'd like to incorporate, like bimbo, doll, lolita, ballroom, camp, alternative, gothic, nonhuman, or time period specific looks! there are lots of styles for all types of drag artists, there are lots of drag kings out there as well and the inspirations and themes for outfits can vary wildly!
it's good to think about what you think drag is for you, too. what is your statement? what are you telling the world when you dress in drag? what are you parodying? what is it a satire of? what are you making fun of? what are you expressing? is it self love? is it showing the world this is who you are inside? is it commentary on how society views you? is it how you can have fun and look pretty at the same time? is it about breaking down binaries? having to over-perform womanhood, manhood, or nonbinaryhood? feeling like a caricature? and so on and so forth
once you have an idea of what you are expressing when you do drag, it can give you some more inspiration on looks. you are never locked into one look, having one name, being one type of performer. you can switch between being a drag queen, king, artist, and thing! there's nothing stopping you from having multiple drag personas, or not having one at all. you don't have to have a name or a specific persona if that doesn't suit you
if you want to have a specific persona, a lot of folks like to make their name or title some type of pun. i'm autistic and suck at cultural references, so i'm not great at lending a hand on this one! but some folks are able to come up with some hilarious names. humor is a huge part of drag so please don't feel like you can't be funny. drag can leave you crying laughing- some performers love to do comedy in drag and it rips!
you can also be serious, sexy, mysterious, playful, animalistic, nonhuman, alien, or childlike. it's totally up to you, there's no hard set rules, it's a very play it by ear kind of thing. above all else it is an artform, meaning it is highly up to interpretation. you don't have to necessarily layer your face up in makeup if that doesn't suit you. if you can find other ways to express yourself and have fun with gender and presentation that don't involve that, show people!
many performers also include cultural aspects of their ethnicity into their drag as well! i live in a highly diverse area with a lot of latine and indigenous performers and i have met a lot of local navajo queens who have incorporated fashion from their culture into their looks as well! drag's foundation is in black & latine ballroom culture, people of color have always had a massive hand in being the pioneers of drag, so don't be afraid to incorporate those themes into your performances and outfits if it feels comfortable to you
clothes and wigs can be thrifted depending on the area you live in, and your sizes. i have found great success (i.e. all of my outfits except my vests!) from thrift stores. it can take some looking but it is worth it. however, i do understand some folks struggle to find cute clothes for drag because their local area does not have great thrift stores. it is okay to do what you have to to find cheap clothes, if you do not have access to thrift stores that have a lot of variety, you can always look for consignment shops and other types of boutiques of that variety, and i do believe there are lots of drag closets online, as well as any other sites that you personally find clothes from that suits the aesthetic you're going for! you can find clothes for drag anywhere if you develop an eye for it
i would highly suggest browsing youtube for wig styling and makeup tutorials! i just kind of view my face as a canvas and paint on whatever i think would look cool, but for some of my looks i am learning how to play with light and shadow, so i highly recommend just browsing for tutorials for people who match your skin and hair type! i would highly recommend making sure you are specifying what type of hair you are working with when searching for tutorials
you can start playlists of songs to perform to if music is your thing, and you can also look up choreography for songs on youtube as well for ideas, if music will be involved in your performing. it's definitely not necessary though, and many folks dress up and spend time in drag to socialize, not to sing and dance, which is totally fine as well! comedy, book readings and cooking tutorials are just a few other things that folks like to do while in drag! you can do a lot or nothing at all it's really up to you
