Remember how in the beast universe Dazai ends his life by jumping off a building? And Chuuya is upset that he didn't get to kill him?

But Dazai fell to his death. He fell.

Dazai's ability has no exceptions. He's immune to everything you throw at him. But his body obeys gravity just like everybody else.

And gravity obeys Chuuya.

augh i love the humanity themes w bsd but ive been thinking recently about yosano's ability and mori's exploitation of it in war as insight into fyodor because GOD. to take death away from humanity is to deprive them of the human right to die. the soldiers yosano was working with losing their minds, moving her place as angel from something like worship to this seething hatred. because by refusing them death, she has taken their very humanity from them

and with fyodor, who CANT die. who is killed and replaces his killer over and over and over for CENTURIES, his humanity is long gone. like almost everyone in bsd, hes searching for companionship - an equal. but he wont find one, because his humanity died a very very long time ago and he has abandoned any genuine path to get it back. like verlaine, he believes he can only find an equal in someone as inhuman as he is, but in both cases theyre Wrong about the person theyre seeking it from.

The beautiful thing about picking pokemon in this AU is sometimes ill pick them for one thing and then find out info later that makes it even better

Like with Dazai taking in Oda's Eevee. Dazai doesn't see the need to evolve his pokemon and even uses it as an advantage but he evolves Eevee into an Espeon which requires a Dawn Stone and high friendship.

Then there's Sigma whom I gave a Trapinch/ Vibrava. He wakes up in the dessert so I thought i should give him a pokemon found in that terrain.

In my experience, I saw Trapinch and thought what cute lil guy but generally thought of them as okay and didnt realize all the ground/dragon Flygons came from them.

So. For Sigma akhdkska. Give him the ant pokemon that turns into a dragon type.

He has the second evolution which is Vibrava. Later on i checked the pokedex entry and...

Okay???? Whatever???? Just. Use it as inspiration for your resonance gun i guess??

atsushi is someone who has never had enough of anything growing up, especially when pertaining to food, and now is willing to take whatever he gets.

except he has this incredibly powerful ability that uses a fuck ton of energy and in turn calories and nutrients and the like. but he has no reason to know that right?

and his bodies always been in survival mode and the tiger always tried to take as little from him as it could, but now he’s usually his ability all the time and in addition has access to steady food and water. but he doesn’t know how much he needs and he doesn’t know that its not normal to be constantly at least a little hungry.

yosano told him when he joined that he was malnourished and set him up with a basic meal plan and he sticks to it best he can. he doesn’t know why he’s still constantly tired or not gaining any weight or hungry all the time but he figures it just takes time.

as time goes on and he uses his ability more and more he starts to get more tired daily. he sleeps longer, starts napping during the day etc. kunikida scolds him a couple times for falling asleep at his desk and tells him not to take after dazai any more than he already does but he’s getting worried too. atsushi is usually the third one in the office behind kunikida and fukuzawa, and second only to kunikida in his diligence at work.

it keeps going for a while until one day after a week of back to back to back missions (the last one being a joint one with the pm) he passes out while giving a debrief in front of everyone.

yosano is practically kicking herself when she realizes what the problem is and draws him up a Much different nutritional plan after all this. nearly everyone else in the agency feels real bad about it too, it seems so obvious but it really just slipped their minds. dazai buys atsushi lunch for a week (with kunikidas money), kunikida draws up a new food budget plan and helps him find the best local deals, yosano takes him and kyouka shopping and gets him whatever they want, and fukuzawa gives him a raise to help handle the food budget increase no matter how much atsushi insists its all not necessary. ranpo even shares his snack with him once.

chuuya gives atsushi a lot of tips too (if anyone understands what its like to have an energy consuming gift its him).

atsushi is a bit (a lot) overwhelmed with all of this but he also finds the feeling of peoples worry over him to be…kind of nice? its nice to be helped instead of hurt. and he’s getting really fond of not being exhausted and hungry all the time (though he does still keep the occasional daytime nap in his schedule 🐱)

Yes!!!! the PM is also in the tags! i couldn't make a murder mystery AU set in Los Angeles of all places and not have corporations with dirty hands and deep-pocketed old-money types floating around their establishments. Los Angeles doesn't and didn't have a main crime family with a lot of Aura, so inserting the PM without feeling like I was replacing a very real crime syndicate ( like I would if this was NY or Chicago ) was quite nice.

Yeah . . . TSP Atsushi is a whole different thing, on the surface at least. He's older, more experienced ( Yeah. ), and honestly, has bigger problems to deal with than the budding realization that he might like men so he just waltzes into flirtation with Akutagawa like it's nothing. If I were Ryuu I'd have pushed him down the stairwell by now, but he's too smitten for that.

I need to draw Mori in that shirt ( he did step up, after all. The Tsushimas weren't great, even if Dazai thinks of them with that wistfulness seen in Chapter 2 ).

I'm sorry for making another long post but "Dazai hanging up on Akutagawa was so mean and he shouldn't have done it!" has always been a take that makes me so. Upset.

Yes, using Akutagawa's desperation and insecurity against him probably wasn't the kindest option available, but for fucks sake the dude was horribly in the way in that moment. Did you want him to just ask nicely instead???

If Dazai made Atsushi dance around and fight Akutagawa right then, they would've lost a LOT of precious time, and Atsushi would've lost a lot of energy even if he won, AND it would've cost them the win against Fitzgerald.

Besides, yk, Dazai literally planned on his appearance, it was part of everything to begin with.

Akutagawa's brief moment of interruption was mapped out from the beginning, but that doesn't mean Atsushi had the time to figure out how to politely deal with the man who has been ACTIVELY TRYING TO KILL HIM SINCE THEY MET right now.

But back to the other part, I would like to put the idea on the table that if sskk did fight then, no matter who won, where would they be for the fight against Fitzgerald that Dazai was banking on BOTH of them being there for?? Yk, his whole theory to create the 'next generation'??? If they didn't deter Akutagawa right then, then everything they were working towards would've been for naught. Saving Yokohama, and Dazai's own plan.

Akutagawa needed a reason to keep pursuing Atsushi for them to face each other and work together against Fitzgerald, if Atsushi was not able to quickly pass by, that would not have happened.

Again, sure there might've been a better way to do it, but honestly, the ADA isn't built on some pillar of heavenly morals?? BSD constantly pushes the idea of "good and evil" not being so black and white, it's one of the main themes in the story, and it applies to the ADA just as well as the other organizations and characters. Holding the ADA and its members to a standard of being purely "good" doesn't make sense. If that makes sense.

i know theres lore to say he has, but imagine if dazai hadnt actually done his entrance exam to the ada yet, and by saving sigma he came under fukuzawas ability (assuming fukuzawa was still alive lmao) at the last minute and nullifies chuuyas vampirism without having to touch him for it to work.

idk its just so interesting to me that dazais ability is so passive and only works whenever he comes into contact with something, but he cant direct it or actually control it (example: he cant even turn it off when seriously injured to be healed).

as far as ive seen there wasnt any changes to dazais ability that we know of since he joined the ada right?

also interesting to note that kyoukas ability control was instant after putting her life on the line, even after being a member for some time beforehand and not having had fukuzawa knowing what was going on so maybe his ability isnt a conscious choice...

dazai is no angel, not a good person and not fully trying for redemption. still the things he does be it him joining ADA and everything that comes after is in the shadow of a man. he is mostly husk of a man, a shell and nothing more and people tend to forget that. he is his own person with his personality, yes, but the bits of him that he displays are all stolen masks and pieces and i think he is doing a better job fooling the fandom than the bsd characters too. he is not the worst but he is not this overly popular archtype people have built around him. he is selfish, struggles with love, human connection and has probably more unhealthy coping mechanisms than we have been shown as readers/audience and i need people to remember that sometimes. no shade on anyone's interpretation on him but some things ive seen are just... a completely different man who just happens to look identical to dazai. what makes dazai dazai is his mess of a collage-like personality
