Okay, I don't know if this is every going to go anywhere, but I feel like I need to put the idea for this fic out there because I found some Merle POV brainstorming I did and need to share it.
Fic Concept: Sophia Time Loop
The general idea of the fic itself is that it wouldn't have been super long or detailed or anything--a season a chapter at a push--and all chapters would have been an outsiders POV of the whole debacle because I anything time travel related is so interesting when you're not the one time travelling.
So, Chapter 1 would be Carol's POV, detailing how "There is something wrong with her daughter" and starting a couple days pre-apocalypse where Sophia outright kills Ed in their house. From there, Carol would get dragged to King's County to pick up Morgan and Duane, and shack up in the hospital Rick is staying in so they're there for when he wakes up.
Season 1 would go as normal, relatively speaking, with Morgan and Carol helping Rick get acquainted with the new world while Sophia is practically acting on a schedule no one else is, nudging people in directions they need to go without using words because she's been quiet since the Ed thing and Carol doesn't know how to help her (or reconcile with the fact her twelve-year-old murdered her shitty husband and didn't cry about it).
Sophia gets Morgan and Duane to come with them to Atlanta, and she leads them up to the Quarry camp before they even reach the city, letting reunions occur earlier. Without Rick kicking up a bunch of noise, everyone from Atlanta comes back in one, slightly bruised piece, and the camp has all the guns (RIP the Vatos but Carol doesn't know about them and they never make it anyway).
They'd still leave the quarry after the incident, but they'd have significantly less casualties, and they wouldn't go to the CDC.
Chapter 2 is where Merle's POV comes in. His whole thing makes it clear Sophia's weirdness is noticed by others, but, as he is Merle, he's very Merle about it.
Carol's daughter is weird as fuck. See, here's the thing, Merle has met his fair share of strange people, she's not even the first person he's met who doesn't like talking like a normal fucking person. But it's not just the talking thing--she has a voice, soft as shit and raspy like she'd stolen a pack of cigs of someone, but she's got one--it's the fact that she's freaky as fuck.
I think his POV as a complete juxtaposition from Carol's soft, uncertain rationalising through S1 is very funny.
Season 2 still kicks off as normal with Sophia going off into the woods, Carl getting shot, and everyone being involved in the search party. Merle is, reluctantly involved, mostly helping because Daryl has moon eyes for Carol and keeps glaring at Merle when he says Sophia's dead or as good as. Plus, it gets him away from everyone else.
Naturally, he finds her. Or, well, she finds him.
I have two different sort of conversations brainstormed in a note, and I don't know if they're supposed to go together, but you sort of get the picture of the vibes of the conversation.
Snippet #1 - I imagine Sophia is sitting in a tree when he stumbles upon her
"You shouldn't be out here." It's the most words she's said in one go and, honestly, it's a little jarring. Still, he scoffs. "Look who's talking."
Snippet #2 - probably picking up after a "we should get back" sort of sentiment
"Not yet." "The fuck you mean not yet?" She levels him with a look and, okay, what-the-fuck-ever, she said what she said. "Fine. Die out here." "Been there, done that." Of course, how could he forget the freaky as fuck part. "Did you find the farm?" "The hell are you talkin' about? How d'you even know about that?" She shrugs, "'cause that's where you always go when Carl gets shot." Right. Merle has decided she's not only freaky, but crazy as shit too, wonderful. Why does he always get stuck with the fucking weird ones? (This isn't even mentioning that this is probably the first real, verbal conversation this girl has had in months, and it's with him. It's not the kind of thing he'd normally give a shit about but, hey: freaky.) "There's somethin' seriously wrong with you, kid." "Sure," she offers with a nod, "but I figure that's pretty normal now." "Oh yeah? How's that?"
And then there was the tiniest little exchange I just thought really solidified their dynamic in my mind which was:
"No one's ever going to believe you." That little shit.
I'm not entirely sure what she's referring to (either her being weird, her talking to him, or him going back to the others to tell them he found her but she didn't want to come back with him) but either way Merle and Sophia to me are always chaos.
Thank you for your time, I know this isn't really the kind of thing I post but omg I needed these snippets to go somewhere that wasn't an actual fic I had to put thought into, especially because I genuinely haven't thought past Merle and Sophia being assholes to each other in the woods of Season 2.

[ cw: sacrifice / self sacrifice / slight suicidal themes / death mention / ]
I personally think that Leo took the wrong lessons from the movie. I definitely think he grew to understand the importance of teamwork and making sure he takes others into account so as to not harm them by proxy of whatever scheme he has cooked up, however based on the ending events I’m not quite certain he fully grasped two things.
The first thing is communication. Oh, he can communicate, and he does, when he deems it necessary. When he’s setting up a plan prior to the action. But this is where the second thing comes in.
The second thing I don’t think Leo truly grasped is “it’s not about you.” It’s so unbearably easy to take that the wrong way, especially when taking the rest of the series into account.
What I believe Leo took from this message is not “it’s not just you, everyone matters and can contribute, can help and be helped” but “put the whole of everyone above yourself” which can both be a good lesson…and a fatal one.
And it is fatal, we see as much in the movie.
Even after the big hope speech, when Leo is “fighting” Krang!Raph, he takes a huge risk. Sure, it worked, and Leo managed to get through to Raph through a well deserved apology, but it could have so easily ended in his death and yet he barely even hesitates to go for it.
And then again, to the big scene at the end, where Leo sacrifices himself not only for the sake of his family, but for the whole world.
To him, that’s the message to take from this. That the lives of everyone, of the greater good, matters…more than him. That the risk to himself is worth it if others can be saved.
Leo learned that gambling with his life as the betting chip is always the best move to make in the end.
And to make matters worse…this thinking is what works.
These risks are ultimately what is needed to save the day, so why would Leo look away from it now? Clearly it’s the right move and everything worked out!
Thing is, Leo did grow from the events of the movie. He learned to take things more seriously and be more mature, he learned to value his team’s input and capabilities enough to rely on them more, and he learned to be less self-centered and realize the turmoil others were going through (especially if that turmoil is a result of his actions.)
But still, he’s grown to accept the gamble of his life as a viable answer to their problems.
Personally, with how Leo has been shown to toy around with the idea of “it’s better me than them” I think this goes beyond sacrifice in the name of love or even sacrifice in the name of responsibility, and pushes over into sacrifice in the name of worth.
#rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#rottmnt leo#rottmnt headcanons#rise leo#death mention /#sacrifice /#self sacrifice /#suicidal tendencies implication /#I honestly could go on for hours but this is all a kinda messy ramble rn#but yeah like…I genuinely can’t see how Leo doesn’t take the wrong message from this all#sure he gets a lot of good growth but#he’s a gambler at heart#it’s just now he’s only willing to bet *himself*#ONCE AGAIN-#‘I’m nothing without them’ and ‘it’s not about you’ can and do mix into quite the dangerous cocktail huh#thing that gets me here too is that a lot of what Leo has to learn in the movie is things he already showed moments of knowing in the show#like Leo KNOWS what his family is capable of and can rely on them if necessary#the problem is when it’s necessary#and he grew to understand that it’s actually ALWAYS necessary…except at the very end#leo is also often the voice of reason throughout the series…but he also often folds and just goes with the flow#he’s goofy like that lol#and tbh he likes to RELAX#that’s a pretty subtle but pretty substantial part of his character#imo at the beginning of the movie Leo KNOWS he’s being immature and THATS THE POINT#they’re still kids man#they’re all just kids#but yeah#I keep rambling and rambling but Leo really is such a tragic character in the grand scheme of things#he’s so utterly fascinating to look at because of how many layers and complexities he has but I just want to give him a hug and let him rest

I simply think this fandom doesn't give Wei Wuxian enough credit for the various ways in which he saved Lan Wangji
#mdzs#mo dao zu shi#wangxian#idk man- i just see a lot of “Lan Wangji has always been protecting Wei Wuxian” posts and its like...#I mean... Lan Wangji has always certainly been trying to protect Wei Wuxian#it took him a long time to figure how to successfully do that though#rereading the books rn and noticing theres a lot of instances that could be read as lwj being frustrated over his inability to protect wwx#like he seemed ready to cry when wwx went missing for a while and then came back with the cursed leg#lwj has always been great at protecting wwx from physical threats (ex: waterborn abyss) but had no idea how to protect him from himself#meanwhile wwx has always been instictually good at saving lwj from both#like I'm 100% lwj would've become like Jiang Cheng if wwx hadn't snapped him out of the blindly following authority thing#and also like... 15 y/o lwj wasnt happy with his life. he was lonely and stressed and literally signing up to be flogged whenever he goofed#wwx is who allowed lwj to grow up by showing him what it was like to actually be a kid (shown in story whenever lwj gets drunk)#he led lwj to having a more flexible mindset. and it both let lwj relax and set lwj up to be a better parent#looking into lwj's dynamic with the juniors- he lets them break a fuck ton of the petty rules and encourages them to question authority#he also teaches them to not be married to any one meathod of problem solving#wwx is also able to save lwj from his own stubbornness#ex: carrying lwj when he broke his leg. getting lwj to cough up bad blood. getting lwj to keep the rabbits#wwx also tends to give lwj the words he has trouble saying himself. helps him communicate#wwx also protects lwj in fights a lot but thats narratively less important#except the various times wwx puts himself in danger to help lwj. those times are what made it so lwj could never move on from wwx#like with the cave incident#or when wwx helped surpress the arm instead of using the chaos to escape cloud recesses#tldr i guess: i think this fandom tends to treat lwj being the best like its natural to him when really wwx accidentaly rewired his brain#I'm looking directly at fanfic writers who act like the Lans would've treated wwx better than the Jiangs#lwj had to do so much work and self reflection post meeting wwx to be the way he is. he is not the sole product of the Lan teachings

Jack decides he needs a bit of time away from family to mourn the loss of his one sided friendship with Vlad and Vlad's death. So he takes a trip to Gotham. On this trip, he runs into Damian and Tim, who are convinced he's Captain Marvel in disguise.
Meanwhile, Jason's also run into Jack as he's coming into his ghost powers. Jason starts freaking out because someone just saw him when his new powers started glitching. Panicking only worsens the situation as now he can't figure out how to get his foot un-caught in the cement.
Jack, despite not knowing if this kid is a halfa or not, decides to give him advice based on how Danny told him his powers work. It works.
Now, Jason has a sort-of mentor that he didn't ask for but definitely needs, and Jack has something to do while he sorts out his feelings on the whole Vlad-was-never-his-friend thing.
Eventually, Damian and Tim catch them while Jack is trying to explain how Jason might have a second form. While Jack explains, Jason just transforms. His ghost form isn't what either expected. Jack was expecting something similar to Danny's or Vlad's. Not a winged little kid with a mask.
To be honest, this just solidifies that this guy is Captain Marvel for Damian and Tim. Obviously he decided to teach Jason magic.

you know what I hate in fics that "redeem" characters? especially antiheroes or villains who -in canon- call out oppressive regimes, the status quo, criticize the privileged, etc.? it's the fact that they are usually 'redeemed' via their relationships with "hero" characters. and by doing this, the writer just. invalidates all the systemic issues the character is supposed to be criticizing as if they don't exist, or as if the character wasn't criticizing the status quo at all! I see this is a refusal to engage with actual problems that villain/anti-hero characters often protest against, and as a refusal to admit the hero characters are complicit with the status quo. and a villain/anti-hero fan, it is very, very annoying.
Also, this makes these characters seem almost "hysteric", which is even more frustrating

Obsessed with Lloyd never mentioning his grandfather is the First Spinjitsu Master, apparently to the point even Arin didn't seem to know, because "eh, it never came up". Cause like, yeah, sure, my grandfather is God, what of it? Normal day for me. Shit happens. My dad is also evil, you wanna talk about that? I sure don't.
It's also funny from a character arc perspective. Here's itty bitty baby first season Lloyd, loudly proclaiming he's the son of Garmadon, and probably also making sure everyone knows he's God part 3 electric boogaloo. And then one Tomorrow's Tea and a few more years later and he's doing everything physically possible to NOT care about his heritage. In fact he'd probably rather his parentage was literally anyone else. Dude could care so less he forgets about it most of the time. King behavior.

Law not even realizing how exciting the alliance was to Luffy will never be not funny. He literally approached Luffy first and proposed the alliance with a twelve-step program to defeat one of the four emperors then expect the other captain to be normal about it? Expect Luffy, who planned to pick a fight with the Yonkos and already succeeded way back in Fish Man Island, to be rational and serious about it? For Luffy, that further confirmed that Torao is indeed a good guy aside from helping him out two years ago, giving animal legs to those who can't walk in Punk Hazard, and the cherry on top: for presenting signposts to achieve what he wanted, finally having directions on how to go at it instead of barreling his way like he usually does. Luffy doesn't follow instructions and the plan, sure, but he sticks to those signposts with stubbornness and even Law had come to begrudgingly accept throughout the alliance that Luffy's recklessness wielded far better results than what he initially expected. So really, Law still not realizing the relevance of what he did to Luffy and even insisting that they're only allies, not at all friends, etc. is amusing because he was laying out the stars aka the alliance aka the plan to take down Kaido to Luffy in the middle of the harsh snows in Punk Hazard and on top of everything that has happened to them prior, wonders why Luffy likes him so much. The alliance was a whole ass love language and Law doesn't even figure it out or he's in too much denial to acknowledge it.
