A few of my Favorite Mareeps (in no particular order) #12
EX Team Rocket Returns ~ 67/109 ~ Naoyo Kimura
After a long break, I am back with another mareep! You will see that it is also the source of this blog's profile picture. I also flipped it horizontally while cropping it for that purpose. At the time I imagined it would look like the mareep is saying the things in these posts, but tumblr's layout doesn't actually support that well. Regardless of my own hubris, it's probably one of the top mareeps.
Naoyo Kimura has been doing artwork for the card game consistently since the Southern Islands set. One thing I love about them is how well they integrate their natural landscape backgrounds with the pokemon featured in the cards. This gets shown off especially well here, with this mareep in a field of mareep colored flowers:
About This Series of Posts:
I love mareep. They are the best. Basically, this is just some of my favorite mareep cards. Each post features photos of the card, the art up close, my favorite detail, as well as some writing on the contents of the photos.
search "a few of my favorite mareeps" for more.

fall out 4 ex!bf hancock that gets jealous seeing you out with nick valentine
• you happened to be in Goodneighbour one evening, trying to get some much needed r&r
• you traded your junk for ammo with KLEO, then settled down in The Third Rail for a pint with Nick
• ordering a drink, you two were listening to the live music and reminiscing over the mission, it was nice to have time with Nick again. after all, he was there for you when you first arrived in this new Commonwealth
• but you didn’t even know Hancock was in the establishment tonight, watching you two from afar
• sure it crossed your mind that he might be around, but a) you figured he had mayoral duties and b) you’ve really tried to move on after he broke the news that he couldn’t be with you anymore
• it broke your heart and you took it very personally. everything was going fine- you were made General of the Minutemen, were fixing up Red Rocket to make it your new home, you had gotten Goodneighbour back on its feet… you had kissed for the first time in this very establishment, fallen into bed with each other, you told him you loved him…
• but he ended it all. he walked away. said he couldn’t do this anymore one night, and that was it. you haven’t seen him since. you relied on him so much with your missions, you two were the perfect team and did everything together, it was devastating to be without the man you loved
• you had no choice but to let him walk. so you teamed up with Nick again eventually, the synth detective that’s always had your back
• you had liked Nick, even tried to make a move on him way back in the day, nothing ever came of it. especially not after when you discovered Goodneighbour. he was your greatest friend and confidant though
• “you know he’s watching you, doll?” Nick interrupts your laughter and your face starts to fall, trying desperately not to look Hancocks way
• “yeah, well- maybe he’s realizing what he lost” you try to shrug it off
• but Nick doesn’t think that’s good enough. he’s known Hancock for some years now, and even though the ghoul is certainly charismatic to say the least, he knows when he needs a nudge to act
• “well, tell me this. do you still harbour feelings for him?” Nick asks, placing his hand dangerously high on your thigh
• the action disarms you, glancing up into Nicks eyes, but all you can think about is Hancock from your peripheral, you can see his head snap up at the sight
• “yes” you whisper, bringing a wobbling bottle to your lips
• “good”, and Nick springs into action. taking your hand and leading you to the dance floor. he brings his one hand to your hip, the other hand locked with yours, pulling you in close. he briefly makes eye contact with the ghoul and smirks, only to be greeted with a scowl
• Nick knows exactly what he’s doing and pushes it even further, moving his mouth to the shell of your ear, whispering Hancocks movements to you
• “here he comes, darlin’. just hope it was worth it and he doesn’t hurt this old mug”
• you laugh at the thought, but it’s quickly replaced with shock as Hancock comes right up to the two of you on the floor
• “Nick”, he states matter of factly
• “Hancock, nice to see you.” Nick releases his grip on you, tilting his hat and smirks as he returns to the bar
• Hancock quickly takes his place, his rough hand in yours, the other on your waist, pulling you in until your chest-to-chest. he didn’t waste a second to bring you right back to where you belong
• “nice to see you, Sole.” he whispers into the side of your temple. his lips ghosting your skin, holding them there. it felt so good to touch you again, just as soft and beautiful as he remembers
• “you too…” it’s hard to concentrate with his scent overwhelming you, his presence, touch and attention. it feels like heaven but it’s all so much
• you stumble a bit in your steps, but he’s right there to support you and pick you up
• “don’t go fallin’ all over me just yet, sunshine”
• “i wouldn’t be, if you had just stayed…”
• he looks down at you, utterly gutted by your words, but still, he holds you close to him, continuing to dance with you slowly
• “the truth is that I’m not good enough for you, Sole.” he confesses, closing his eyes, refusing to meet yours
• “i’m nothing but a nine-toed junkie with electoral duties. you deserve better than a ghoul like me.”
• his self deprecation can be endearing at times, but at this point, it just hurts to hear
• “i still love you. I haven’t stopped. You mean so much to me, Hancock. it killed me to wake up alone that morning.” you frown at the memory
• he stops in his tracks at the words. everyday tasks have utterly ached without by his side. you were the spark he never knew he needed in his life, and if you were opening up to him like this tonight, he was sure he could take the opportunity to get you back
• “i love you too, sunshine. forgive me?” he smiles a small smile.
• “please?”
• after that night, it was back to the grand killing spree, brought to you by the Mayor and the General
• Nick was just content to see you two happy again. not just because he considers both you dear friends, but for the sake of the Commonwealth
• but not that content when you two started forgetting to lock the doors again due to the burning desire to touch one another
• the slow, but hard banging up against the wall,
• the obnoxious quickies in the washroom,
• and the hickeys being sucked into your soft skin by rough lips
• still, Nick thinks, for the sake of the Commonwealth…

Do you think you could info dump all that you know about Madame Boss and Mayomoto with drawings? I would love to know more about their dynamic and about young Giovanni with baby Jessie. Maybe Delia could ask Jessie about it in a comic? Would it be sad or nostalgic? Maybe both? Like a flashback or something would be cool! Anyway, love your art and everything that you do!! ❤️
I'm not sure I can get it out in just drawings (just because it's a lot) but I have quite a few I've already done if you wanna look through my tags~ I'll also explain a bit here with some of my old comics. Long post under the cut~
Canonically, Madame Boss is the founder of Team Rocket and Giovnanni's mother. Miyamoto was one of her elite agents and Jessie's mother. They're REALLY close as evidenced by how they talk to one another (ex. Madame Boss calling Miyamoto "Miyamoto chan", Miyamoto's informal way of speaking to Madame Boss despite her being her superior, their friendly banter, etc.). Madame Boss sends Miyamoto and two other Team Rocket members on a mission to find Mew, but she and the other members never return. Miyamoto's implied to still be alive, endlessly chasing Mew with Jessie as her north star and reason to keep going. Madame Boss passes away sometime between the radio drama and before the events of the first Pokémon Movie. You can listen to the whole drama here! Madame Boss and Miyamoto are primarily in the first part, but Miyamoto pops up at the end of each of the other parts at different periods of time.
youtube
This is more where my headcanons begin! Miyamoto, whose dub name I hc being (Calamity) Jane, joined Team Rocket mostly because of her not great circumstances. She works her way up the ladder quickly and impresses Madame Boss. They become close but at the time, Miyamoto was dating a charismatic performer/con man that MB, not so subtly, doesn't approve of. She was right to not approve as this man got Miyamoto pregnant but left her before he'd known.
Madame Boss, despite her penny pinching behavior (Team Rocket wasn't that big yet), does what she can to help out Miyamoto. They had to tread carefully though, they didn't want anyone thinking there was any sort of favoritism happening.
Jessie is born, and for a little while Miyamoto keeps her and raises her the best she can. On more short term missions she'd leave her with Madame Boss, who's not super fond of children, and would have her own son Giovanni watch her (or have another grunt in Team Rocket watch her). This wasn't sustainable, so Miyamoto quickly puts Jessie in foster care (the foster care part is canon). Miyamoto would still visit her daughter whenever she could.
Ultimately, Miyamoto was a very driven, one track minded woman. She would constantly go on missions and after discovering Mew, became obsessed. It was around this time Madame Boss was starting to catch feelings for Miyamoto. Miyamoto would play along but was not nearly as invested in their relationship is Madame Boss was. Not in a malicious or leading on sort of way, she just had a job she wanted to get done
When it was time for Miyamoto to go on the mission to actually find Mew, Madame Boss, while excited at the prospect of getting her hands on a legendary Pokémon and the money that came with that, began to worry in the days leading up to the mission and tried to get Miyamoto to stay. She offered to send a different team out. To her they were disposable, but Miyamoto wasn't. Miyamoto didn't take the offer, wanting the glory and money of finding Mew for herself (but also had a daughter she wanted to get back to and be able to provide for). She leaves and goes MIA
Madame Boss is brokenhearted and after several years of Miyamoto going missing, is not able to run Team Rocket, troubled by the immense amount of guilt and heartache, and Giovanni takes over. She remains in the organization, more so operating in the background. It was rare for agents to see her out and about. But years later she sees Jessie's joined Team Rocket as a trainee. She requests Viper and Giovanni keep an eye out for her. Viper doesn't know why but does as he's told. Giovanni understands, remembering Jessie as the little toddler he'd have to take care of many years ago as well as her mother Miyamoto, who he knew was very close to his mother.
Not too long after, Madame Boss passes away but Giovanni keeps his promise and continues to keep Jessie employed.
I don't think Jessie remembers much of her mom or anything from around this time. I don't think she even remembers her mom being in Team Rocket or Giovanni babysitting her. She just remembers her mother leaving and never coming back and holds some resentment, not knowing the context of why Miyamoto disappeared.
I've thought about doing a story where Miyamoto returns in my hanamusa au but I still gotta think it out more. It starts with Miyamoto stopping by Delia's restaurant and she and Delia talk, not knowing the little connection they have via Jessie.

Can I request Giovanni is s/o's ex and is jealous that theyre now dating nanu? Ever since you wrote that drabble about RR in alola its lived rent free in my head!! Its also so interesting considering Giovanni calls Nanu an "old friend" in the anime
nfjdjdnd I'm not quite sure what RR drabble you're referring to (I have a few... I can think of specifically, though you might be referring to). Time to try to write Giovanni again... also since this is RR Giovanni, multiverse confusion
cw: jealousy,
pairing: Nanu/Reader, Previous Giovanni/Reader
🚀🐈⬛️Giovanni & Nanu❤️🩹🐈
🟥 The Rocket Boss was not immune to the beauty of Alola. While his focus should have, perhaps, been entirely on his goals, he was curious about the world they had invaded. Information was most pertinent, was it not? He had to wait until the UB experiment fully was ready for acutely processing. The other team leaders that he had pulled in seemed too distracted to be of concern for now as well. So, he had picked an island and found himself wandering in more casual clothing. Of course, Rocket grunts would accompany, while his executives remained to help manage the remaining members around their new hideout.
🌑 Ula'Ula had caught his eye for the architecture reminded him like that of Johto. The garden itself made him feel as if he were back home. The scenery put his mind at ease as he wandered. Everything was going well. Giovanni always worked to make sure his plans gave him the result that he wanted. He sat on a bench to observe the passing people of Alola with an interest. What pokemon of interest were here? His ponderings were interrupted by the arrival of two familiar people. He allowed his hat to obscure his eyes as they approached the stall. Nanu... The International Police officer was Alolan if the Rocket Boss recalled correctly. But, the person at his side made Giovanni grimace. You. Your arm was wrapped around Nanu's own while he squinted at the menu. It was plainly obvious what the connection was between you two. His grip nearly shattered the tea cup in his hand.
🟥 You – his mind raced. He was not going to pretend he was the most romantic man on the planet. There were times he simply lost himself in his plans. Yet, Giovanni felt that he provided nearly everything that you had wanted. There was some rare-vested attachment that he held. You challenged him. You had the strength to prove yourself… He almost wanted to keep you like his prized Persian. It was not to be. You left. No words were spoken – Just gone. He wondered what had been the breaking point, but you were impossible to find. Except, here you were. It all made sense now. If anyone could hide you away from him, it would be Nanu. The Elite Officer was amicable, but it was clear he had some sense of justice always on his mind. His harsh exterior only masked his soft heart.
🌑 Something in him broke at the sight of Nanu's arm going around your shoulders. You leaned into him in return. Giovanni remained silent. He did not make any sudden movements. His competitive spirit burned within him. What could you see in Nanu? He appeared so dishevelled now. Whatever the Rocket Boss had seen in him as an officer was replaced with a different man. Yet, you seemed to happily enjoy a confectionery with the red-eyed man. While this you was not the same one that he held a relationship with, he doubted that the situation of this world was so far apart that this you and him were disconnected from each other. What did he lack that Nanu offered? He struggled to think of anything.
🟥 A sudden gaze from the retired International Police officer had him silenced. Had he been detected? He wondered what the next few actions would be. Part of him debated if he should simply walk away, yet another part of his foolhardy pride demanded that he stay. Nanu's arm left your shoulder. Giovanni finally tipped his hat up enough to reveal his face. Their eyes met. Words were not spoken, yet they clearly could understand the other's feelings. You turning your head to see what caught Nanu's attention led to your eyes growing wide. Giovanni almost smirked. That was recognition, purely and simply. You leaned into Nanu, trying to hide, but all three of you were aware of the situation. His envy burned brighter.
🌑 “Ah, I had always wondered where you had disappeared away from me to,” Giovanni stood up and approached you both, “Nanu… I should have suspected something like this. Who else could outsmart me?” He felt around in his pocket for a familiar box of something. “… Is he truly better than me?” His dark eyes swelled with something ominous. Doing something here was too stupid, and he was beyond a childish reaction of violence. “I assure you that I can offer you everything more than he can,” Giovanni would not say he was desperate, but he would admit he did not want to back down. Nanu cocked a brow up at him while shooting him an intense glare. A chuckle left him.
🟥 Your denial hit him hard. You still clung to Nanu. The Kahuna seemed to attempt to console you and hide you behind him. Giovanni felt his smirk fall. Stubborn. He supposed this was the end for now. Turning away from you both, he wandered out of the gardens. There was time to work on this later. Giovanni would establish himself here, and perhaps then his influence would sway you. He could only hope things continued to go smoothly.
🌑 You turned to gaze up at Nanu, searching for an answer, yet he seemed lost in his own thoughts. His arm remained around you. Lidded eyes lowered even further as his lips forced themselves into his usual frown. Something was now afoot. He could feel the upcoming stress in his bones. Looker had suddenly started blowing up his phone, but he tried to ignore it. This must have been why. “We probably shouldn't stray too far from each other,” he spoke in his usual lazy manner, “… You did date Giovanni, eh? What a choice.” You could only look at him, I'm bewilderment. Was he jealous? The situation really seemed a mess.

Okay, doing mini "best strategy" mode here. Let's see…
So… Anyone below Keira on the list is a guilty character, while the group between her and Meredith is defiant. So keep defiants to a minimum and don't do any possible guilty characters. We also need to keep the weird routes below eight, because if we hit that limit we're entering hard mode so we're gonna try to avoid it.
Now… For starters, our best pick for special attacks is definitely Estelle, whom is our only lethal attacker who isn't a defiant or guilty.
It would also be wise to weird route Mallow as well, since she holds the other highest damage count besides Estelle in the stronger group.
That's two weird route characters… But what if they're downed? Also, they're on different teams. It's pretty much impossible to have both on the same team so for our other weird routes…
Rime and Meredith.
Let me explain: We still need to keep in mind our controllers aka those who are manipulated by the player that would be much better but pose an extra problem: Heavy resistance. There's a reason they're controllers due to a high amount of determination without being determination at all, which is why both Maria and Naomi aren't favorable to weird route despite how tempting two lethals are. Not to mention… They're both seafoam, leaving only Estelle as a Stardust weird route character.
At least with Rime and Meredith it's balanced 2 v 2, and four characters is plenty to spare the rest. Not to mention, although some are connected trying to weird route them requires other characters (ex. Stellar and Camellia) which would affect BOTH characters. This runs the risk of losing a base powerful character while only making the middling strength character a bit stronger and deadlier.
With these teams in mind… Our most efficient team match-ups are:
For seafoam: Maria, Mallow, Meredith. Maria is, despite being warrior class, pretty much a tank. Mallow is the main attacker, while Meredith is both a reliable healer and heavy hitter.
For stardust: Arthur, Rime, Estelle. Arthur is the usual knight class, Rime is our warrior, and Estelle the Mage. Pretty balanced by party standards but in terms of power we now have two LETHAL LEVEL attacks on this end. This is incredibly busted, too.
(Yes you can switch out who you want in the fight. It's a mechanic in the game. It's also a free turn and you can do it as many times as you want. BUT if whoever you're swapping with took damage, that damage will carry over to whoever you swapped them with.)
But anyway… What would everyone else do for their parties? I'm curious!

I.M.P. are pathetic.
Let’s count all the episodes and who resolves what conflict, more specifically who beats one villain. Beating a villain counts for half, doing something that stops their plans but doesn’t beat them half counts. Resolving a conflict with no attached antagonist, or beating an unimportant villain, those half count.
1. Murder family: Blitz shoots Murder Mom.
2. Loo Loo Land: Blitz kills Robo-Fizz but it doesn’t actually matter.
3. Spring broken: Millie kills the fish but that’s not revelant and the actual conflict ends on a draw.
4. C.H.E.R.U.B.: The plot ends in a slapstick joke rather than any character doing any one thing to resolve the conflict:
5. Harvest moon festival: Striker is defeated by no one and gets away in the end.
6. Truth seekers: The plot is resolved by Stolas. Millie and Loona were partially helpful but the ending negated all that and made it entirely Stolas’s doing.
7-10. No villain to speak of. For four episodes. Of this action series about killing people. Season one was 8 episodes, this is four episodes straight. Brilliant.
11. Exes and Oohs: Millie rescues Moxie from Crimson.
12. Western energy: Moxie and Millie defeat striker as a team. Finally an ending where Moxie beats a villain, except it was also with Millie who delivers the striking blow.
13. Unhappy campers: The guy is killed by a stray rocket which had nothing to do with the conflict, and the guy in question is just an excuse for the real conflict to occur.
14. Oops!: Fizz and Blitz break themselves out and Blitz beats Striker.
15. Mammons mid season who gives a fuck: Blitz kills the stalker but he’s not relevant, and Ozzie stops mammon by revealing his secret.
Let’s count:
Blitz beats the main villain in 3 of these episodes, and in 1 of them that villain isn’t a real villain but some guy Blitz picked a stupid fight with, half a point. He saves himself with the help of Fizz which is another half. He gets the stalker but he was not a real villain so no extra pointsso his final score is:
3 wins
Millie does it one and a half times, the fish being an extra half adding up to two times.
Her score is 2 wins.
Moxie has claim to literally half a villain takedown.
His score is .5 wins.
Now random coincidence scores a 3 for Verosika, Barbie Wire’s grooming victim, and the Cherubs… which is the same score as Blitzo.
This does not count the incidental goons from truth seekers because fighting those accomplished nothing in the end.
Stolas resolves stops Dhorks so his score is a one, higher than Moxie even though he’s not part of IMP.
Fizz helps Blitz escape a deadly situation, that’s a half. He scores the same as Moxie, which is deranged since he’s a side character in his first major appearance.
Ozzie defeats mammon which would be a full point because mammon was about to kill Fizz, except he does it super easy without any violence so that’s a half point. Once again the same score as Moxie.
Also we have Non combat episodes, if you count them you’d say Millie hitting Fizz was a victory because he was a relevant antagonist, so half a point for her putting her at 2.5 because he was the conflict but not a villain. Loona resolved the conflict of Queen bee by driving Blitz home which I am not counting because that was just the situation ending, like it would have anyway. But I will count that she was the one who actually found Octavia because that was the point of seeing stars. So that’s half a point for her actually, because there was no villain but she did solve the problem. And I gives stolas has half a point for the divorce, one and a half points higher than Moxie. A lot of half points.
Let’s compare this to a real show, Avatar, with its first fifteen episodes:
1. Boy in the iceberg: Aang turns himself in and gets Zuko to leave.
2. The avatar returns: Aang escapes the ship and takes down Zuko, Katara takes down the guards.
3. The southern air temple: Zuko defeats Zhao in a fight during his subplot. He counts.
4. Warriors of Kyoshi: Aang beats Zuko and puts out the fire in the village.
5. King of Omashu: Aang wins Bumi’s challenges.
6. Imprisoned: Katara does the prison break.
7. Winter solstice part one: Aang gets Hei Bai to choose peace by reminding him that the forest can heal.
8. Winter solstice part two: Katara’s plan is what gets them through the door, and Avatar Roku saves them.
9. The water bending scroll: Sokka gets the villains fighting amongst themselves so they can escape with Aang and Katara’s water bending.
10. Jet: Katara takes down Jet and Sokka saves everyone.
11. Great Divide: Aang stops the sand crawlers.
12. The storm: No villain this episode.
13. The Blue spirit: Zuko saves Aang from the Yuyan archers.
14. The fortuneteller: No villain but Sokka does get to be useful guiding the village to make a wall and Aang lavabends the lava.
15. Sokka uses the perfumes to incapacitate the mole monster. That victory was entirely his idea and his doing.
So in the end:
Aang has six full victories and two that i’m half counting.
7 Win points.
Katara has 3 proper victories and two that half count,
4 win points.
Sokka has one solo victory and three things that i’m half counting.
2.5 win points.
Zuko scores two victories.
2 victory points.
Roku has one. He is the only person to save the heroes for them and he’s technically the same person as Aang so that’s not even what that is.
And only one episode fully lacks an antagonistic force.
Also if we balance it out on the fact Avatar is different, Team Avatar would score even higher because fifteen episodes to Avatar is six episodes to Helluva boss, since the shows lengths are different.
Also plot wise, team Avatar is new to the whole Hero business, But IMP are pretty experienced in killing.
While you could say it might be unfair to compare Helluva boss to Avatar… sue me.

I mean, I wouldn't put it past Silver to get into an actual fistfight if provoked too much. Hop and Bede is pretty much all verbal banter, but Silver is still pretty rough-tempered and is an ex-criminal. (I assume that all stems from Giovanni and probably from growing up in Team Rocket, he does at least attempt to return the starter he stole and make things right, but Elm decided to forgive him and let him keep it.)
Wally certainly seems to be worried it might devolve into that 😂

Custom Kanto Dex Collection
Page #11 ~ #091 - 099
Today on The Cards
Angry clam, ahh ghosts, just a bunch of rocks, some psychic fellows, and two of crab. But only one can be the:
#1 Card of the Page
Drowzee ~ EX Team Rocket Returns 54/109 ~ Midori Harada
screaming and crying inside about this cute little guy. they are exemplifying the concept of chilling. we should all aspire to this level of relaxation. this is actually one of my favorite cards in general. that might be just because it looks like a nice place to take a nap.
About This Series of Posts:
This collection started when I wanted to have a set of the original 151 Pokemon. However, getting the cards with their first appearances would cost a lot of money. I decided to make a set of the original 151, made out of my favorites of the cheaper options available (though I did allow myself to splurge a few times on ones I really wanted).
Each post features photos of one page of the collection, an impulsively chosen favorite card of the page, a detail on that card, and general writing on the contents of the photos.

having complex feelings about the x-factor 2024 announcement.
pros:
Pyro and Frenzy are there. Be Gay Do Crimes Twink + The Giant Woman I Always Want To See = Good Shit.
The guy who's writing this book is well-known for his one-shot rewriting the Hanna-Barbera character Snagglepuss as a mid-century homosexual playwright. Considering that Pyro is here, this is promising.
Alex is no longer wearing the classic costume, which reduces the chances of him being forced into the Goblin Gown significantly, forcing his arc to rely less on his sexual objectification.
The solicit seems to imply that social media will act as either a framing device or a plot point, which I like the sound of.
Alex and Frenzy serving on a team together rockets her to the #1 spot on the list of Potential Alex Summers Sex Mistakes, since she's a slightly bitter Scott ex with BDSM inclinations.
My longtime Twitter mutual Gail Simone called it a gem of the line, and I'm inclined to trust her judgment on many things.
The writer specifically namedrops Alex and Frenzy as characters he's excited to write, which implies they'll see at least some focus.
The artist is Bob Quinn, a guy I quite like and who sent me free art once for my birthday when Knights of X was delayed.
As someone who hasn't read much X-Factor from the 90s due to my ongoing feud with a particular writer from that era (iykyk), I'm kind of looking forward to seeing what X-Factor as a government team is like, as opposed to X-Factor as an investigating body.
cons:
Alex in a leadership role is never a good sign. Bad things happen to Alex when he leads.
Not a huge fan of the fact that the current known roster includes three white guys and two WOC, with one of the WOC also being a visible mutant who has fur instead of human skin, and the other being a medium-to-dark-skinned black woman famous for being buff and angry, and the three white guys are all blondes, ranging from "dumpster twink" to "hunk"
Alex working for the U.S. government feels like a microagression against me personally, as I've been very vocal about thinking that Alex needs to finally come to terms with the fact that clinging to mainstream institutions and dominant social groups will only ever hurt him, and I was hoping the Hellions or Limbo could be that for him in the Krakoan Era
The marketing seems to imply a different tone and genre from the domestic/workplace horror-comedies Alex has been part of for the last five years, and I don't know how I feel about that yet.
Greg Land is doing the covers, and I hate that for me.
"Who will die?" Of the characters we have announced so far, Alex is the most expendable. He's one of three blond white guys, and while Warren seems to be taking center stage as the Face Of The Team, and St.John's movie counterpart is returning to theaters this summer in Deadpool & Wolverine, so I doubt they'd kill him off in comics at the moment, Alex feels kind of superfluous as a co-leader, and he also is just...less loved, I think.
"Who will fall in love?" Again, worried for Alex because one of his, like, three recurring stories is "gets picked up by the scruff of his neck by a girl way out of his league so she can use him to self-actualize while playing at transgressive forms of heterosexuality." We don't really have similar core recurring storylines for other announced characters.
"Who will be the first to sell out?" Honestly I feel like St.John might be the answer to this question. He's a novelist. Novelists have egos. He's worked for the U.S. government before, under Mystique. And I guess this kind of makes me sad.
The fact that the whole cast hasn't been announced yet fills me with fear that Lorna will be in this, mostly because a fair chunk of FTA seems to be focused on catering to nostalgia on some level, and Alex/Lorna is very 90s. And frankly Dr. Dane should be doing better for herself than the man that left her at the altar for a gay man's girlfriend.
So yeah, I have complex emotions about all of this and will be watching with a fair amount of suspicion as we draw closer to the release date.
