I miss the era of the internet where everyone had an evil alter ego/character that would show up on their channel, just to be silly, that eventually got a lot of lore from the fandom for no reason. It was a simpler time.

Hi hello I was wondering if you would be willing to tell me more about the pretty god Janus design/au/whatever is going on with it because I love it so much I desperately want to know more lol
Hi! I am!! So spoiled!! By the amount of art that @theokusgallery has been feeding me directly for this idea that I've been working on. He is so pretty. I'm going to cry. And every new art piece he just gets prettier. Can you believe it??
Pretty God Janus(TM) is part of a dnd themed au called "Kiss the Stars (And Worship the Ground)" that I'm working on writing right now (literally- I'm taking a break from writing it to scroll through tumblr, lol) where Janus is a legendary god of old, who got bored of humanity centuries ago and has since been trying his hardest to find something entertaining to do with all the power he has.
Virgil, on the other hand, is a devout follower of the Goddess of Justice, right up until his entire village is ransacked by raiders waving the banner of Janus's emblem, and he's the last of his people alive, meant to be ritually sacrificed to Janus in exchange for his followers to receive a blessing according to this really old stone tablet a few guys found. Except well. Virgil doesn't end up being the one dead on the altar, Janus is extremely entertained for the first time in millennia, and they strike a deal:
Janus will give Virgil the power to avenge, revenge, whatever, and Virgil will continue to provide entertainment for Janus, all for the price of one kiss per day.

More spider!paranoia!Virgil for this AU
Time taken: 2 ½ hours
(the white writing is from ENA: Temptation Stairway because I imagine him to act quite similar to ENA, especially with the breakdowns)

(Heavily veiled BDW spoilers, NOT VEILED EoM spoilers ahead)
All his life, Virgil was ice cold and ruthless in pursuit of a single goal.
He didn’t let a single relationship get in his way - everyone was used, everyone could be sacrificed. So ruthless that it makes perfect sense for him to become a demon in the end. His ends justified all means.
Virgil knows how to play the long game, better than anyone. But he’s never had an intimate relationship with anyone, ever.
And suddenly he's trapped inside Jericho, the softest, most easily manipulated bleeding heart you ever fucking saw.
Someone like Jericho is an easy target for Virgil, someone to use up and cast aside, but this time he can’t. He's resourceful. He works with what he’s given, twists and isolates Jericho until he has control.
But that means actually learning about him on a personal level. He learns what is too much for Jericho, because Jericho shuts down in distress and Virgil can’t afford that. He’s always been in the information game, and he knows you have to hide information you don’t want someone to have from them. It’s just that to do that for Jericho, he has to act in a way that seems a lot like caring, every now and then.
And Jericho is hungry for it - ravenous, even. He desperately wants to be loved, cared for. But he pushes back, especially early on. He's too angry and upset at losing what Raum took from him. It takes careful work, to bring him back on side, to have him become so dependent on Virgil that he begins to worry what would happen if he actually had gone away.
Ultimately Jericho is so hungry for connection that he actually can't be isolated. He feeds off his friends, even consumed by envy for them. Like a newborn with failure to thrive, he needs attention, needs affection of any kind, and he's personable, so in spite of being a scarecrow with a weird gross crow, he makes connections.
Virgil tries to keep him isolated, to stay in control, but he won't pursue a doomed approach once he's realised it isn't working.
He's been seen by these people, who are a huge threat to him - who might go so far as to exorcise him if they could. He has to fold them into his plan. They'll help him get that key. He stops impeding their relationships to Jericho, because he needs access to them, and because they could still turn on him, side with Jericho and find a way to destroy Virgil.
That means he needs Jericho to love him. He needs him attached, and needs to make sure his friends view Virgil as something that helps Jericho more than he harms him. He has to make more of a show of the things he does to protect Jericho from shutting down, to emphasize the "care". He has to talk to his friends. Test them out. Show them he's not so bad, really. He is protecting Jericho, right?
And having destroyed Jericho's self-confidence, he has to build him back up for the next part of his plan. Give him the confidence to perform the binding ritual and trap Pazuzu.
Afterwards, he has the perfect opportunity, to blame all the cruelty and manipulation on Pazuzu. Perhaps he can even convince himself it's true. If he changes, does that make it true?
For the first time, Virgil has no long-term goal. He's done it. His job is finished. And somehow, he's still alive? And still sharing a body with Jericho? Who even is he now, when his cruelty can no longer be justified?
(This started as my thoughts about this post by @be-jargogled but it spiraled totally out of hand)

Sanders Sides
Rating: 4/4
Tumblr media
Why this character is plural: While Thomas Sanders has explicitly stated that Sanders Sides is not meant to be a representation of DID, the plot of Sanders Sides involves each part of (the character) Thomas Sanders personality being personified and arguing with each other over what Thomas should do in various situations, often leading to conclusions about healthy coping strategies for things like anxiety and intrusive thoughts. As well as this, the sides will often have interpersonal drama that solidifies their presence as characters rather than simple representations of Thomas's personality. Kind Of Plural Evil Alter: No Erase The System: No One Dimensional Alters: No Internalized Ableism: Somewhat Ableism Rating: Good
Sanders Sides is Kind Of Plural because they have been explicitly stated not to be a representation of DID and rather different parts of Thomas's personality, but they are often relatable to systems. For the "Evil Alter" trope, I believe while the Dark Sides would traditionally be considered as part of this trope, it is subverted via the reveal that the alters are not actually evil people, rather, they are simply coping mechanisms within Thomas he doesn't want to confront. They are explicitly not actually evil and rather just socially unacceptable/taboo coping mechanisms. They do not Erase The System, and I don't see how they could as these are fragments of Thomas's personality attempting to get along. I think it would be counterintuitive to the messages of Sanders Sides to make them singular. While often I would label characters such as these as One Dimensional alters as they're explicitly only part of Thomas's personality, they are also STRONGLY depicted with individuals with their own tastes, personalities, dynamics ECT. If you are choosing to interpret this work as plural, the former is easily subverted by the latter. Because the series revolves around finding healthy coping strategies and dealing with mental illness, Thomas often expresses sentiments that Are Internally Ableist, few of these are ableism like the desire to get rid of alters, or wanting to be singular. The only component of DID-adjacent internalized ableism I can recall is his desire to get rid of his "Dark Sides", which is explicitly framed as an unhealthy mindset in the narrative. The Ableism rating, as expected from a series surrounding healthy coping strategies, is Good within Sanders Sides. The only reason they're not given the highest rating is because they're not a system ergo there's inherent flaws like the fact they're treated as multiple facets of the same personality.

haha isn't it funny that the wiki says Luis is "deceased" and the scenes in game make it look all sad like he's gone when really he's enjoying his life vacationing somewhere in Europe that isn't Spain once he leaves Valdelobos
