This stupid song has been living rent free in my head for too long. It's time for it to pay bills.
Booker, buddy, you really cant make a deal like that with god. Not when she's right there and equally broke like you...

And then there's Bitsy...

This was also a crash course in how to draw with ibis paint. I still need a whole lot of practice but it wasn't as bad as I thought. Ive only drawn on paper or wood this past year and I havent actually drawn anything like this to completion in years! I'm so proud of these, and i hope you guys like it!

I imagine Virgil—while appearing like a regular crow—is just ever so slightly uncanny enough to tell you “that’s not a normal crow” (kinda like how Nikkie described the demon weasels in the Crooked House. They look like normal weasels, for the most part, but something about them seems…Wrong.)
Like, he’s just slightly too big. Sure, maybe he’s just a larger crow, they can get pretty big. But he’s just a bit larger than that. Almost the size of an average raven. But…he’s not a raven. He’s a crow. So why is he the size of a raven?
His eyes are too big. Sure, his eyes are also fucked up already, but ignoring that part. Normal crow eyes are small and beady. Virgil’s eyes are almost too big for his head. They’re almost the size and shape of a human’s.
His feathers are a Too Black for a natural crow. His beak is Too Sharp. His body is too amorphous. Like, yeah, it’s vaguely crow shaped when he’s perched or flying, just enough to not question it when you see him out of the corner of your eye, but if you look at him—really look at him—something about the shape is…odd. And the worst part is that you can’t even tell what is off about him. Is it his feathers? His wings? His talons? You’re not quite sure.
I mean, Jericho calls Virgil his “Weird Gross Crow” for a reason.

So, Jericho and Virgil.
Let's talk about them. They're best friends, brothers, horribly codependent of each other for every little thing they do and that's how Virgil wants it to be.
Virgil has taken his time manipulating and grooming sweet little Jericho into the self-deprecating, self-loathing, depressed scarecrow man we see today. Virgil has been telling him that Jericho is nothing, no-one will ever love him like Virgil does, no-one will ever care for Jericho like Virgil does. Virgil relishes in making Jericho uncomfortable even if it is while he's under the influence of P'zuzu(Pazuzu?). What's happening in canon as of episode 32 is horrible for Jericho, because it's a common manipulation tactic. When Jericho was still scared of Virgil, when he was disobedient, when he was acting as if Virgil wasn't the one who gave him everything he has for himself, Virgil made sure he suffered for it. Virgil made sure to subtly implant the message into Jericho that if you don't do what I want then you will never have anyone who loves you ever again. Now, as of the later episodes, Jericho has given into Virgil a lot more. He's listening to Virgil. He's obeying Virgil. He's accepting his role as the body Virgil's stuck in. And Virgil is rewarding him for it. He can think of his party members as actual trusted friends now, he can feel confident because he is useful to Virgil's plans.
This is dangerous, even if you completely ignore the fact Virgil is Raum who is y'know a demon. Jericho has given up control of his life. Jericho has fallen into the idea that he is nothing without Virgil. Jericho will never want Virgil to be gone because then he'll be alone again. Jericho may seem like he has more confidence, but he has never been at a lower point mentally.
And yes, you could argue that Virgil has taken a liking to Jericho, and that's true, he has even if it's a miniscule amount. Virgil would call it a brother bond to appease Jericho, but in reality it seems to me that Virgil sees Jericho as little more than a pet. He is here and with Jericho only because he has to be, because Jericho's body is his body and he can't leave it. He will make Jericho take better care of himself now sure, but only because that's HIS body.
It doesn't stop there either. Post metamorphosis everyone wants to talk to Virgil. Everyone wants Virgil's guidance. "Jericho is our friend, so don't hurt him" my ass! They may care for Jericho sure, but they most certainly don't love him. Jericho is their friend through necessity and traumabonding. I love the eom crew more than anything, but also there is no way in hell any of them would approach Jericho with any intent to be his friend. They pity him. They are scared of him. They are annoyed with him. He is here because he's funny and clumsy and endearing. If anything Virgil is not the only one who sees Jericho as a pet. When things get bad though, they don't want Jericho, they want Virgil.
I have so much to say about Jericho it's unreal AHSHISJSWKOWK

(Heavily veiled BDW spoilers, NOT VEILED EoM spoilers ahead)
All his life, Virgil was ice cold and ruthless in pursuit of a single goal.
He didn’t let a single relationship get in his way - everyone was used, everyone could be sacrificed. So ruthless that it makes perfect sense for him to become a demon in the end. His ends justified all means.
Virgil knows how to play the long game, better than anyone. But he’s never had an intimate relationship with anyone, ever.
And suddenly he's trapped inside Jericho, the softest, most easily manipulated bleeding heart you ever fucking saw.
Someone like Jericho is an easy target for Virgil, someone to use up and cast aside, but this time he can’t. He's resourceful. He works with what he’s given, twists and isolates Jericho until he has control.
But that means actually learning about him on a personal level. He learns what is too much for Jericho, because Jericho shuts down in distress and Virgil can’t afford that. He’s always been in the information game, and he knows you have to hide information you don’t want someone to have from them. It’s just that to do that for Jericho, he has to act in a way that seems a lot like caring, every now and then.
And Jericho is hungry for it - ravenous, even. He desperately wants to be loved, cared for. But he pushes back, especially early on. He's too angry and upset at losing what Raum took from him. It takes careful work, to bring him back on side, to have him become so dependent on Virgil that he begins to worry what would happen if he actually had gone away.
Ultimately Jericho is so hungry for connection that he actually can't be isolated. He feeds off his friends, even consumed by envy for them. Like a newborn with failure to thrive, he needs attention, needs affection of any kind, and he's personable, so in spite of being a scarecrow with a weird gross crow, he makes connections.
Virgil tries to keep him isolated, to stay in control, but he won't pursue a doomed approach once he's realised it isn't working.
He's been seen by these people, who are a huge threat to him - who might go so far as to exorcise him if they could. He has to fold them into his plan. They'll help him get that key. He stops impeding their relationships to Jericho, because he needs access to them, and because they could still turn on him, side with Jericho and find a way to destroy Virgil.
That means he needs Jericho to love him. He needs him attached, and needs to make sure his friends view Virgil as something that helps Jericho more than he harms him. He has to make more of a show of the things he does to protect Jericho from shutting down, to emphasize the "care". He has to talk to his friends. Test them out. Show them he's not so bad, really. He is protecting Jericho, right?
And having destroyed Jericho's self-confidence, he has to build him back up for the next part of his plan. Give him the confidence to perform the binding ritual and trap Pazuzu.
Afterwards, he has the perfect opportunity, to blame all the cruelty and manipulation on Pazuzu. Perhaps he can even convince himself it's true. If he changes, does that make it true?
For the first time, Virgil has no long-term goal. He's done it. His job is finished. And somehow, he's still alive? And still sharing a body with Jericho? Who even is he now, when his cruelty can no longer be justified?
(This started as my thoughts about this post by @be-jargogled but it spiraled totally out of hand)

Who are your favorite loa characters?
Ooh, that’s tough! I’d generally have to say really any of Andy’s, Derek’s, and Mikey’s characters, but to name a specific few (in no particular order)
Lethica—given my profile pic, I feel like that’s obvious lol; Shepherd—I’m a sucker for badass tiefling men, what can I say?; Sarnax; Torbek—given that he’s the entire reason why i decided to start OUAW in the first place, and I bought his plushie, I feel like I have to put him here lol; Jericho (and by extension, Virgil); Taishen; Skrimm; Clayton; and idk if she technically counts since she’s an NPC, but Daisy from Icebound. I love her sm.
