anyway I had a thought today where crown prince xie lian is younger than everyone else.

He is probably 6-7 when he gets mu qing and feng xin (who are 16-17) and they coddle him a lot. Basically XL is their baby brother and baby prince wants to be as strong as his older brothers because they are both so cool!!!

baby lian meets hong-er on the streets one day and please gege can’t we keep him??? I don’t have friends!! You two don’t count cause you’re not my age. Please just please!!!!

So that’s how the trio becomes a quartet and feng xin and mu qing are not only the body guards of the prince but also baby sitters of two very unruly kids who are never up to any good

(They are not getting paid enough to deal with them) (it’s a damn good thing they love the fuck outta those kids)

anyways XL starts his training and ofc Honger tags along. they grow up training together, challenging each other, competing but falling in love at the same time and yeah celibacy is easy for XL except every time he sees HC his thoughts go haywire

When XL ascends, he has three generals by his side.

When he falls, he has two because honger died in the war

And XL truly thinks he is to blame. He went from being the darling of the heavens to someone who has now lost everything. he can’t bear the loss of his beloved

(And he never even got to confess)

Ofc HC keeps him company as a ghost fire because he’d never let his beloved be alone. (XL does not know who the ghost fire is because knowing the love of his life is not at peace would hurt him immeasurably) FX and MQ try their best to stick with him but circumstances deteriorate and they are forced out of his life once again

although this time, MQ does stand up for XL in front of the 33 gods (and gets subsequently banished from heavens). In the end, he still has to leave XL. FX gets forced out of his life after the entire sword ordeal and XL’s subsequent mental breakdown.

Unknown to XL tho they are still both watching over him from a distance because ain’t no way they are leaving their baby bro like this

When XL enters his calamity era, they both lose their minds and are trying their best to subtly stop XL from doing the worst things but THAT STUPID FUCKING GHOST ALWAYS FOLLOWING HIM AROUND WILL NOT STOP ENABLING EVERY BAD DECISION XL TAKES

fx and mq are losing their minds. when xl lies in the streets for three days, they try their best to disguise themselves and go help him but that NAMELESS GHOST!!! He does not let them!! “Your highness would be heartbroken when he realizes you two have seen him in such a state and he’d never forgive himself and you two suck at disguising yourselves anyways~”

wu ming does end up getting dispersed but not before XL realizes his true identity and absolutely loses his mind with grief because how did he manage to lose his loved one not once but TWICE and both the times it was HIS FAULT

He gets banished from heavens again because ofc

knowing xl won’t be able to cope fx and mq finally reveal themselves. xl can feel all ashamed of himself for his actions it’s fine they are not leaving him alone again and they will help him heal and move on

Except one night when the two aren’t paying attention, XL ends up running away. He can’t bear being around them, knowing they know what he did and how he caused honger’s death twice.

(fx and mq never blamed him at all. They were just heartbroken and guilt stricken for not being able to do enough for their darling brother)

Cue 800 years of searching.

This time when XL ascends, he is greeted by two powerful generals who have been reduced to a tearful mess because THEY FINALLY HAVE XL BACK WITH THEM!!! THEIR BABY BRO IS SAFE

they accompany him to mount Yu Jun as themselves and HC comes to XL’s aid

he does not reveal his identity but XL just knows this man is special

FX and MQ then tell him about Crimson Rain Sought Flower, the elusive ghost king who challenged 33 gods and crushed them all

(But he was super nice to both of them and it kinda freaked them out)

When XL meets San Lang. He knows. He just knows it’s Honger and feels like he can finally breathe again because in those 800 years he never once stopped loving him but he waits for him to reveal his identity to him because what is stopping him from telling him and fx and mq?

HC, meanwhile, is sort of embarrassed to meet them, not sure if they would be able to accept this new form of his. He missed them all dearly but he is just not able to move past his self doubts.

It is not until the cave of 10k gods that it revealed who HC really is and instead of FX and MQ freaking out, there is a tearful reunion

Ok now that I’m thinking abt it cfv cast social media headcanons if cfv was set a little closer to now than 2011:

Aichi: he has Instagram but mostly to follow Kai (who didn’t actually accept his follow request until like the end of season 1 lmao) and Misaki and all his other friends rather than out of a particular desire to post pictures himself. It’s a private account and he posts when the mood strikes him, with content wildly varying from like pictures with friends to cute animals to cool new vanguard cards to food that was particularly good. Has Snapchat because Kamui bugged him about it and mostly uses it for streaks (but he forgets a lot & kamui’s like BROTHER AICHIIIIIIII :( OUR STREAK :( ).

Kai: Instagram. It’s also a private account, and for a while he just had 2 followers (Ren and Tetsu), then after their fallout he blocked Ren and Tetsu but Miwa bugged him into accepting his request (though he didn’t really post during that time just used it to observe), then after s1 he finally accepted more of his friends’ follow requests. Eventually he starts posting food he made & ofc his favorite kagero units (& maybe his friends. Occasionally. He’s not big on writing captions though). I can also see him having a Twitter where people try to antagonize him & he roasts the shit out of them (Kamui is constantly in his mentions trying to start shit, at first out of genuine dislike - he gets blocked for a while because of this - but then just for fun. Kai still blocks him every so often, and/or occasionally plays along and snipes back with some rude comment, but it’s mostly to annoy him back rather than out of genuine malice. Mostly. He does enjoy being an asshole to Kamui though). Has Snapchat but pretty much only opens it when Aichi sends him something (Ren likes to send him a million snaps chronicling his whole day to annoy him so mostly he ignores the app).

Misaki: she’s a Pinterest girlie for sure. Very organized Pinterest boards with images that are always properly sourced. She also has Instagram (also a private acc) but she didn’t use it much before she met her card capital friends, now she uses it to keep tabs on Aichi and the others. She doesn’t really post pictures except on special occasions but she is an avid close friends story user, especially when she knows Kourin will see her posts (before s4? Or au where she doesn’t disappear I guess? Idk it’s my city & I’m already diverging from canon to say they have social media just roll with it). There’s also an official Card Capital Instagram, and when she becomes the store owner in G she doesn’t really run it but she has to approve the content that gets posted there. I can also see her having tumblr just bc of her “strange” sense of humor, like she’d be very anonymous about it and not put basically anything in her bio (MAYBE her name but maybe not even that, & possibly a fake name), but I can see her being fairly popular here.

Kamui: he’s too young for social media AND YET he has it anyways. Can frequently be found getting into fights on Twitter. He’s also a big Snapchat user and HATES when people leave him on read, or when someone’s about to break a streak. Very big on streaks in general, has insanely long ones with Reiji and Eiji. Also he definitely has tiktok and (he will deny this but) he’s jealous when anyone he knows has more followers than he does. How does Suzugamori Ren have that many followers anyways >:/? In G era he downloads Instagram because he heard that Emi did it.

Miwa: definitely a Reddit user (but like not in the derogatory way, he’s just fascinated by the site). He has a personal Instagram as well as a wildly popular other account dedicated to unflattering candid pictures of his friends (mostly Kai but Misaki Kamui and Morikawa are also frequent features, and, on one memorable occasion, Jun). Semi-popular on TikTok for being a sweet & funny guy and also for casually mentioning insane things that happened and never elaborating (“yeah sorry I was absent I got kidnapped because my dumbass friend wanted to play cards with a gang leader, that guy better be grateful”).

Reiji and Eiji: have the same social media Kamui does, and hype him up on it (/occasionally bemoan how lame he is) but also do their own things.

Morikawa: Tumblr user, fully believes the wizard blogs are real wizards. Gets anons from people like “I want to study you” all the time & he always misses the point and makes it into “the Morikawa vanguard school is always open to new students because I am the greatest teacher ever”. After meeting her, a lot of his posts start focusing on Kourin and his followers have an equivalent experience to when someone you’ve followed suddenly turns into a K-pop blog with absolutely no explanation. Kind of famous just because of how fucking weird he is. He also has Snapchat but is like really bad at taking pictures so everything he sends/posts is blurry or at a bad angle, but unironically. Had no interest in any other social media until he heard Kourin had Instagram and Twitter, at which point he downloaded them both and immediately started posting about her.

Izaki: Twitter user /derogatory (sorry Izaki but I know this in my heart to be true. He’s gotta have some red flags to have stayed friends with Morikawa this long). Also has Snapchat and tries (and fails) to help Morikawa take better pictures. Kamui frequently bullies him about losing their streak, which since they’re not actually that close is probably their main form of communication. Izaki’s not totally convinced that Kamui actually knows his NAME, so he’s confused about why he cares so much (it’s bc Kamui has a Snapchat streak with literally everyone he knows who 1. has Snapchat and 2. does streaks). Also possibly has an Instagram where he occasionally gets influxes of followers when he’s tagged in pictures with his more famous friends, but some of them probably don’t think he’s that interesting and soon unfollow (lmao rip)

Emi: does not have social media in the main series but gets an Instagram by G era (when Kamui finds this out he suddenly downloads Instagram even though he has never expressed an interest in it before, and thus so does Nagisa, somehow sensing what Kamui has done).

Nagisa: has Twitter only so she can follow Kamui (again, she is too young for Twitter). Kamui has her blocked but she can still somehow sense when someone’s arguing with him & she comes into their replies like “leave my man alone!!” I would not be surprised if she doxxed people tbh. She keeps getting banned but somehow every time she appeals it the ban is lifted (Kamui suspects dark magic). Also downloads Instagram in G era after Kamui does (how does she know he got it if he didn’t tell her??? She has her ways).

Kourin: has an official ultrarare Instagram and Twitter where she promotes her idol work, and also a private Instagram and Twitter where she posts pictures of her friends and nerds out about vanguard and thoroughly logically dismantles stupid people. Once she posted a stupid meme making fun of Kai on her official ultrarare Twitter instead of her personal one by accident and fully freaked out trying to take it down before the fans screenshotted it (she wasn’t successful bc idol fans are crazy and ended up saying she was hacked) (Kai will never admit it but he thought it was funny). She probably has Morikawa blocked on every platform.

Rekka: an instagram girlie FOR SURE. She posts often and sticks to a cutesy aesthetic, and is wildly popular. She’s also very into Snapchat, both in terms of doing streaks with people and live-blogging funny bits of her day on her story. Probably also spends a lot of time on Pinterest & has a lot of Pinterest boards for every situation.

Suiko: I’ll be real I have no idea. I feel like she either has no social media at all and just like guest appears on Kourin and Rekka’s, or has like official instagram/twitter accounts with tons of followers that she semi-maintains and weird shitposty anonymous accounts where she just posts whatever comes to her brain. Tbh I can see her stirring the pot so she can observe Kamui into getting into more twitter beef just to see what happens. Redditor??? She is a mystery to me.

Kenji: has Tumblr & like 60% of it is dedicated to Ancient Rome, 30% of it is about vanguard, and the last 10% is just him reblogging like feminist stuff and positive messages. A wife guy without actually having a wife or realizing he’s a wife guy (posts a lot about “his friend” - Yuri - bc he just thinks she’s neat, but his followers seem to think he’s in love with her for some reason???). Cries when people on tumblr celebrate the ides of March. Probably has been cancelled for unironically stanning Caesar. Also has an official Instagram but doesn’t post on there much, when he’s there he’s usually just there to like his friends’ posts and log back off. People are surprised by his lack of social media and have not connected his tumblr (where he stays completely anonymous thank you very much, he is Not a fan of the attention) to him, and are always begging him to post more on his Instagram/get more social media, but when Yuri and Gai bring this up hes like no <3 I will not <3

Yuri: she’s a YouTuber for sure & she has helpful videos on deck building, strategy, how to stay calm under pressure, etc. Occasionally she includes her teammates or people from other teams in her videos (Aichi featured in one once and now her fans regularly ask for him to come back lol). She also has an official Instagram and Twitter, and runs most of the official Team Caesar accounts on various platforms. Yuri and Misaki are tumblr mutuals, and she is aware of Koutei’s tumblr (bc they’re both in the vanguard tag a lot and who else would be THAT obsessed with Julius Caesar. She’s no fool, she recognized it was him instantly) but she thinks it’s funny to not tell him it’s her (+ she’s kind of embarrassed in a fond way/thinks he might be embarrassed about the posts abt her if he knew) so she just scrolls through his nice posts abt her when she’s having a bad day.

Gai: tiktok famous for generally being a chill dude who’s willing to answer your vanguard questions but mostly for posting Team Caesar behind the scenes videos, which range from Yuri being mad at one or both of them to them doing challenges/playing games together, to some of their movie star stuff in G, to one particularly memorable video where he just stared at the camera while Yuri and Koutei were being in love with each other and (at least in Koutei’s part) oblivious to it in the background.

Ren: pre-season 1 he had no social media except an Instagram account and a Snapchat, both of which he used to post an ongoing stream of whatever was in his brain so that Tetsu and Kai would see it. After The Breakup™️ he went private and posted a lot of stuff about revenge, and being stronger, etc (which was no use since Kai had him blocked and he was not popular pre-Asteroid era, so pretty much only tetsu saw his posts). Also he’s DEFINITELY a Reddit user lmao. Post-season 1 Asaka got him into tiktok which he immediately became famous on, he joined Twitter which had a preconception of him due to the way he acted during season 1 and so he gets cancelled every other week for a while (eventually they mostly get used to his new personality and the way he says the weirdest shit), and he rebooted his Instagram to be public and deleted most of the old revenge posts (he probably leaves one up just to cause controversy lmao). Often leaves Kyou on read on Snapchat, but whether that’s on purpose or an accident is anybody’s guess. Actually he probably would have tumblr too & be kinda infamous bc his personality would definitely make him popular here tbh. He runs a “official ren suzugamori” blog but he never acknowledges he’s on tumblr anywhere else and everyone thinks it’s just a fake parody blog.

Asaka: tiktok famous for being hot, on team asteroid, and if she’s feeling generous for answering people’s vanguard questions (with a special focus on the Pale Moon of course). Probably also has a sizable following on Instagram. Lords her amount of followers over Misaki who pretends she doesn’t care but early seasons Misaki was actually a little annoyed by this.

Kyou: had a Twitter. Keeps getting banned from Twitter and making new accounts and the cycle repeats. Doesn’t have a tiktok but is tiktok famous anyways for always appearing in team asteroid videos in the weirdest ways (disguised as a potted plant. Scaled the building and can be seen inaudibly yelling in the background through the window on the third floor of team asteroid headquarters. Parachuting down from an airplane. Etc). When people comment about him on Ren’s videos he’s always like “who?” “I don’t see him?” or “huh, that guy looks vaguely familiar…” and when people comment about him on Asaka’s videos she refuses to name him but always says something about how much she hates that guy. Has Snapchat but about half the cast either leaves him on opened/read or straight up has him blocked (he Does take really interesting pictures though, and it’s cool to see all the places he goes! How does he have the money for all this??? Nobody knows).

Tetsu: runs “official team asteroid” accounts, including a YouTube on which Ren is IMMENSELY popular despite not being the account owner. Known for being intimidating on Twitter, and also for (one-sided tbh) twitter beef with Kamui (who would @ him like HEY ASSHOLE ACKNOWLEDGE ME >:/ & Tetsu would just ignore him) in earlier canon. He doesn’t actually use any of his accounts that much besides the YouTube and to publish official updates about team asteroid, but - though he’ll never admit it - he’s a fan of terrible memes. He asked what Asaka was laughing at once and she showed him a vanguard meme (“I don’t know if you’ll get it though”) and he excused himself and went to another room to laugh (Asaka was like ???).

Also, she’s not 21/22 anymore, and Jake/Harry were such different situations than Matty. I think in 2023 she had something that in 2010/2011/2012 she did not: forward momentum. I mean she was on tour, the biggest of her career so far, she had a couple of rerecords on the way, she had such a tight night support system (family + friends) and also… she knew she didn’t want to remain in the pit but wanted to come out. So she made everything in order for the pain to pass faster and go on with her life, that doesn’t mean she isn’t thinking about Joe/Matty from time to time, but she doesn’t fixate on it, like it happens still to this day with Jake - the manuscript, maroon etc.

i agree that ttpd having a shorter timeframe than red/1989 is due to age, but i don't that age came with a difference in willpower. she had a ton of forward momentum in 2011 and 2012! she was on a massive headlining tour (longest of her career until eras overtook it!), she bought a cat and moved to LA, she was hanging out with friends all the time, she was so so so proud of what she was writing for red-- like, her 2011 lover journals are so fascinating to me, but i think these passages really stick to me in relationship to who she grew into.

Mar 16, 2011: Anyway, today I had a lot of anxiety about my career because I don’t know what to do for the ‘Mean’ video. It’s such an important song and message, and it just isn’t coming together. I get so stressed out. I played our Milan show tonight then flew to Paris. My life is so beautiful right now. Everyone once in a while I have to remind myself to breathe and take in the view.

Jun 17, 2011: Something so unexpected and amazing has happened recently … I’ve become blissfully happy with my life. Like, actually grateful for every second of the day. I’ve noticed this onset for a while, but it’s really hit me in the last week, and especially since I wrote those 2 new songs. I really do need to create in order to live and feel worthwhile. But it’s more than just that. I’m happy with my family. I’m happy about this tour. I’m happy that tomorrow morning I get on a plane to Pittsburgh, play a stadium of 60,000 people, then fly home. I’m happy that the next day, I’m recording 2 new songs. I’m happy that I get to meet so many people on the road who make me feel like my music really matters to them. This ridiculous thing happens to me when I’m this happy … I start feeling like karma will balance it all out by making something tragic happen. But I’m trying to just show gratitude as much as I can. Everyday, every minute, I’m grateful for being happy right this moment. I think I’m a summer person. I’m also a work person. Tour gives me something to pour myself into and a reason to feel ok about sleeping in til noon on my days off.

Jun 10, 2012: I love writing so much. It’s the only thing that makes total sense to me. If I missed a day in the studio, I’d be so mad at myself. God I’ve been having such a beautiful life lately. I can’t believe it. It’s like there’s magic in the air.

from the outside, it seems like her ability to move on quicker now is more due to experience digging herself out of holes, and less a lack of hope or inability to think about other things. like she was putting an insane amount of work into moving on in 2011/2012

I was incredibly flustered writing this, enjoy!

Wei Wuxian stares up in his husband's eyes, the molten gold of his pupils shining into the cool-toned light of the moon. Lan Wangji's eyes have caught onto something outside, his eyes lazily dragging over the vast expanse of the starry night sky, expression soft and placid.

He's always been beautiful, Wei Wuxian reminds himself, but there is something entirely otherworldly in see him like this, unguarded, vulnerable, relaxed between the pristine sheets of their bed. There is a cool breeze wafting from the open window, and Wei Wuxian has taken it as pretext to snuggle closer to Lan Wangji, laying his head on the other's chest and stealing glances at him from his privileged position right atop his heartbeat.

If he knows he's being stared at, Lan Wangji doesn't comment on it. The silence is warm, and his eyes seem lost in the distance, as if daydreaming. Wei Wuxian lets one of his hands reach up to run through his hair, and is rewarded with a soft smile, his husband's attention back on him. He hums, questioningly, but Wei Wuxian shakes his head that it's nothing, letting the hand in Lan Wangji's hair slide over his cheek, caressing the skin there.

Meanwhile, the hand Lan Wangji had on Wei Wuxian's lower back has begun moving up and down his spine, gently drawing shapes on the skin. He can't help staring at Wei Wuxian a little, sweeping his eyes over the other's features with the kind of awe that feels just a bit too close to worship. His eyes, soft with love, with gratitude, with wonder, remind Wei Wuxian of the finest honey, sweet, filling, everlasting.

Wei Wuxian feels the touches on his back, and realizes they aren't a senseless series of movements. He sits up just slightly, and steals a kiss from Lan Wangji's lips. "What are you writing on me, Hanguang-Jun?"

"I love you."

Then, Lan Wangji decides he's going to steal a kiss back, and he does, a rare laugh escaping him at Wei Wuxian's flustered expression.

"You're going to kill me one of these days!" he mumbles as he reclaims his spot on Lan Wangji's chest. hiding his face in the skin there.

"I would sure hope not. I've had enough of being without you."

"Lan Zhan!" comes the blushy protest as Wei Wuxian drags the light blanket over his head.

"There is no point hiding. You can still hear."

"No, I can't."

Lan Wangji huffs fondly. "Then I suppose you can't hear me telling you how incredibly happy I am to share the rest of my life with you."

The bundle of blankets that is Wei Wuxian makes a pitiful sound in Lan Wangji's arms.

"And you also cannot hear about how lucky I feel that I get to have you, in all the ways you let me."

Wei Wuxian wiggles himself off Lan Wangji in protest, taking all the blankets with him. He can't help a proper laugh this time.

"Wei Ying."

No response.

Lan Wangji tugs at the blanket, "It's cold."

A lie, and they both know it, but Wei Wuxian gives in and returns in his husband's arms.

"You know what!" He emerges, at last, so red in the face it's comical. "Two can play at this game! You think I can't wax poetic about you too?" And he clears his voice with emphasis. "Your eyes feel like having honey poured on my soul. And every time you're around, I feel so loved and safe and wanted that I want to scream it out in the world."

Lan Wangji's ears burn, but he doesn't protest. After all, he deserves this, he started it in the first place.

"And you've given me the life that I've never even thought would be possible beyond my dreams, you've given me a home, and a family, and a place in the world."

My friend (the technophobe biokineticist who dated my bf’s close friend) was round the other day and having a whole ass meltdown right because she drank too much (which was on her because it was inappropriate because I had ONE light beer while she was here and my bf didn’t have anything because he thought we might have to drive her home and her car was here so we both needed to be like present yk) and she was going on and on about how she wants to be single until December (which we think is a very solid choice for her) and ergo she was upset her brother told her his friends find her hot (here’s where we lost her train of thought) because her brother and his friends are in their 30s and she’s in her 40s (like my bf also so it was hitting a nerve for us both) and she was going on and on about this and we were like “so would you rather 30 somethings don’t find you hot???” And she was like “no but I want to stay single until December!!!” and we were like “okay so do that lmao a dude finding you hot while you’re out isn’t asking to marry you?” and she was like “yes but I hate that all I’m good for is sex” and we were like “wait so do you want to fuck the 30something or nah because you don’t have to but also he’s a big boy and yes he probably doesn’t look at a 40something and plan marriage and kids right if he’s not stupid but also age gap relationships happen at our age and don’t feel that dramatic so which do you want???” And she was just like “you guys can’t understand” supposedly because he’s a man and I’m in my 30s and maybe that’s true. Tatsumi: ... Theoretically, in present day Japan, the idol industry has been on a steady decline.

The Era of Super Idols, who seemed alike to shining, glittering stars that gleamed within the heavens above, who lit up not only the industry but the world itself, have become nothing more than a mere memory.

Kaname: ... There's no need to condescend us about all of that, is there?

Tatsumi: No, there's not. It's common knowledge for idols such as ourselves.

I would offer you a more detailed history of it, but as a Special Student, you would have learned it already—

Jun: I've heard all about it from my shitty old man too, even though I've never asked. As a result I've got a pretty good idea of what it was like. He'd constantly grumble to me how good things were back in the day, and all that.

Tatsumi: Hm... It would seem as if your father, Jun-san, may have been part of the last generation of those who could still feel the lingering effects of that golden age of idols.

The day those who had become the original Super Idols retired was the day that marked the start of the deterioration of the idol industry.

The bubble had popped, and had ultimately come to nothing. Even now, it continues to degrade at a merciless rate.

Kaname: And are you planning on preaching to me about how foolish it is to want to be an idol in such a desolate era? Will you call me an idiot and ridicule me for it?

Tatsumi: Of course not. It seems as if you dislike any kind of denial towards yourself, HiMERU-san, but I have absolutely no intentions of looking down on you.

In fact, I would rather not hurt anyone at all... even if that is no more than wishful thinking, something no man could hope to achieve.

Mm-mm, no, that's not right. I founded this place so that wishful thinking may be realized.

Kaname: ......?

Tatsumi: No one is bad. No one is at fault. No one should be punished.

It is the era that is to blame. It is our circumstances that are at fault. Everything save humanity itself is insufficient.

Kaname: ............?

Tatsumi: It is, as you have said HiMERU-san, a desolate era.

Despite the public demand for idols declining, the continued increase in their production by the industry has led to an oversupply of idols.

This is due to the fact that the original Super Idols created schooling institutions and agencies not only in Japan, but around the globe.

Even now idols are being born anew each day through these means, and yet just as quickly they disappear from the night sky without being sought after by anyone at all.

A majority of the established training institutions and agencies related to idols faced economic collapse and were thus absorbed into other industries or businesses, or forced to change their direction entirely just to survive.

It may be in part due to a stipulation put forth by the original Super Idols, but... idol training facilities have more or less remained the same in form.

Despite their consistent losses, they're unable to cut the facilities entirely — no more than one could take away a heart or brain and be expected to survive.

Instead, to compensate for the deficit, new departments are created in order to better circulate the economy.

Even Yumenosaki, the leading institution which catered to the industry, has ended up expanding for those who wish not to tread into idolization, creating more general and simple vocal courses — as if it were nothing more than your normal high school.

No, rather... Even such a giant has been forced to its knees, accepting students who don't aspire to be idols whatsoever simply to collect the tuition fees from them so that it may survive just a little longer.

Kaname: I have a general question. If the industry is deteriorating so badly, then why is it that similar schools such as Reimei and Shuuetsu have been newly founded?

Jun: Ahh, I did hear Reimei and other schools are relatively new.

Dunno what they used to teach, but I heard stuff 'bout how it used to be a mission school that they totally renovated, and how it got its current form after constructing a new building for it and all.

Tatsumi: Correct. And that is precisely why the Catacombs we stand in now exist as they do, because they are left over from that time.

It's rather fun to explore around and see what sort of odd ruins you can find.

Tatsumi: Actually, these Catacombs are something I found simply walking about just for curiosity's sake.

I quite like strolling with no purpose behind it...♪

Kaname: You're deviating from the topic at hand.

Tatsumi: So I am. However, as for the "why" Reimei Academy was established, I haven't the faintest idea; you'd have to ask someone higher up the reason, such as a financier from Cosmic Productions itself.

It may be that someone who cannot forget how the idol industry once boomed established it out of some kind of nostalgia, or perhaps it was founded by mistake. It could even be a part of a normal plan to reduce taxation.

Jun: Seems like an awfully big project for something like that. I mean, we've got all the latest and greatest equipment right here.

So like, if they're gonna build something anyway then they shoulda built something even more profitable, yeah?

Tatsumi: Haha. That, too, is difficult to answer.

I haven’t written anything in over a year and haven’t written for this ship since I was 14, but being back in this fandom has brought me so much joy these past couple of months I just couldn’t not  write something. So thank you to this fandom for getting my creative spark back! @inukag-week

InuKag week day 1 - Domestic

Kagome closed her eyes and let the soft night breeze wash over her for a moment. Everything was so quiet and serene. She could hear cicadas buzzing, smell flowers and water, see stars so bright they lit up their path as clear as the sun.

The other era was nothing like this. It was full of noise, strong smells, artificial lights, people chattering, cars running, billboards, buildings, restaurants, trash, a school bell... She had grown up in that other era, in a future where youkais and magic were a thing of the past, where science explained that the rain was caused by the cycle of water and the sun rose by the turning of the Earth, where ghosts belonged in films, and jewels that granted wishes belonged to the stories her grandfather told. She had been born in that era, grown up there, spent 18 years of her life there, and yet...

And yet it was that other life that seemed like a made up story, like a strange dream she had had once, the details blurry and hazy, its weird sounds and scents awaking in her a detached sense of curiosity and wonder, the memory of a dream she had long awaken from.

Was there such a thing as a world where the sky didn’t crackle with fox fire? Where she didn’t spy the form of a giant cat flying in the air and knew her best friend had returned safely home? Where she didn’t go out for walks in the forest every night together with a man with hair as silver as the moon and eyes as golden as ambar, that could as easily bend reality to his will with his sword as he could hold her hand and guide her through a well-known path?

Nonsense. Impossible. This was all there was, all that could ever be. Her reality and her place. Magic was real, a world where she was not with him could never be.

“You are very quiet tonight, Kagome.” His low voice broke through the quiet and made her open her eyes to look at him. Silver hair, golden eyes, fangs, claws. Her husband was part demon, how could he not be? A world where Inuyasha couldn’t exist just couldn’t be real. “Are you alright? Do you feel anything?”

She put her hand over her belly and shook her head with a smile. “No, Moroha is being very good tonight. I was just thinking about...” She stopped for a moment, thinking of the best way to describe it, and finally settled it. “Home.”

He averted his eyes, his ears twitched. A minute change, but Kagome knew him well. He felt guilty, sad, but why? He asked, slowly. “Do you still miss the other era much?”

The question got her by surprise. Her? Miss that dream? That impossible world that could never be? How could he... Her eyes widened, then softened. She stopped them on their tracks and looked up at him, holding tight to one of his hands, and grabbing the other to put it over her belly, over their child.

“No, Inuyasha. I was thinking about home.”

She had never been so certain of something in her life. He widened his eyes now, but she knew he understood her like she understood him. He smiled, pushed her hair away from her face, kissed her; and together they turned, putting an end to the walk of that night, and walked back the way they had come, back home.

explaining my kpop lore

inspired by a tweet I made, we’re talking about seventeen, bts, got7, nct, and more!

so first of all, i consistently lied about how long I was into kpop because when I had a huge active Twitter account, you were seen as cooler if you were into it in your older days. so let’s just make that clear…oomfs I’m sorry </3 it’s been around 8 years or so (2015) is when I actually got into it. but I always used to say 2013.

anyway, I got into kpop right around when seventeen released their shining diamond EP. I stumbled upon them on YouTube and someone reacting to their shining diamond MV. I watched so many of their old predebut videos and very quickly they were the very first group I absolutely adored, and I only got into kpop social media after I started making edits of them on vine. before that I was exclusively following them through YouTube videos. i have always been a jun/scoups/VERNON lover but as of lately i don’t keep up with them actively.

my favorite songs by seventeen are simple, pretty u, HABIT (untouchable FLAWLESS track), Q&A, and change up!!

so after getting introduced to kpop by seventeen, I was then introduced to bts, got7, exo. I went through a serious and intense bts phase, like it was bad. had those black debut jerseys in my Amazon cart and everything like 😭

now, I was 13 years old here, so of course I was a bit obsessed with these men. i probably have thousands of pictures of jimin and jungkook saved in my google photos. yes it’s embarrassing but honestly, i was so happy i think it’s okay that i was a cringe 13 year old. as for my favorite members, i went through a phase with yoongi, hoseok, jimin, and jungkook 😭 i feel that because i loved this group so much my favorite really changed a lot, i liked them all equally. like during my discovery of bts, i immediately liked jimin, but during the i need u/run (hyyh) era I liked jungkook a lot, then during wings i was very attached to hoseok and yoongi </3 for a while now though, jungkook has been my favorite :)

my list of favorite bts songs is a huge list, but here it is; (using the Spotify titles because I forgot the hangul/romanization for them) tomorrow (top 5 for sure), just one day, butterfly, silver spoon, embarrassed, young forever, lie, reflection (also top 5), spring day, stigma, cypher 4, best of me, truth untold, singularity, black swan, boy with luv, fake love, SEESAW (top 3. argue with the wall.), you never walk alone, my time, and lots more. im not gonna say their discography is flawless, because every group has their stinkers, BUT bts is one of those groups I can just shuffle and most songs I won’t skip because I like them that much.

personally, I could make an entire post about wings and how insanely good that entire era was. I’m sure some kpop group has done the concept of every member having their own track before, but since I wasn’t into kpop before 2015, this is the first time it was presented to me. and it was done SO god damn well. i was obsessed with any and all fan theories, counting down to the next teaser, and lost my mf MARBLES when I finally watched blood sweat and tears for the first time. that era and album, the concept, the visuals, the MUSIC, FLAWLESSLY done. like do you hear that dissonance on lie? are you kidding me??? the strings?? tae’s voice on stigma????!!??!??!? I am so not normal about reflection, it’s very bad for meee!! it’s insane the production tha went into those tracks, they are ALL so good..the only songs I’m skipping on that album is just am i wrong and 2,3! THATS IT. YEAH, WE BUMPING INTERLUDE:WINGS TOO!

im still holding onto the hope that I can see them perform live someday. they are a group really special to me despite whatever infuriating fan wars were happening on Twitter in 2016/17. also just REALLY wanna hear the black swan into fake love transition like i just know that will change my life forever….

moving onto exo! I think I found them before BTS, but it wasn’t that much before. just like slightly, like I discovered EXO right before I discovered BTS. I was really sad because, by the time I discovered EXO, kris had already left the group. he was the one who caught my eye the most, which was in the mama exo-m music video. but i moved on from that and jongin was always my bias, it never changed. i did have a brief stint liking xiumin but I don’t think my bias ever rlly changed. i didn’t listen to as much of their music but i feel that their discography is a little timeless honestly, disregarding some interesting tracks…(looking at you wolf..)

my favorite exo songs are; what is love!! insanely good. moonlight, mama, playboy, el dorado (top 5 for sure😭), black pearl, shes dreaming, artificial love, MONSTER!!!!!!!, lucky one, obsession, the eve, SWEET LIES !!!! sad what their company’s management has done to exo as a whole but I still really enjoy their music. I recently watched their episode of killing voice and while I didn’t know many of the songs they sung, it’s always so nice to hear their voices. it’s always really great vocals from kyungsoo and suho. another group I really liked was monsta x, favorite members were always shownu and wonho <3 I did get to see them live on July 16, 2017! hyungwon was sick so he wasn’t there :( but it was an amazing night. i discovered so many new songs by MX and after that concert they were solidified as one of my favorite boy groups ever. some of my fave MX songs: perfect girl, from zero, fighter!!! (so INSANE live) dramarama, now or never, tropical night, shine forever, miss you, beautiful, STUCK!!!!, and beautiful! the clan was also an era I really really liked, the cinematic videos they had were amazing!!!

nct was a group i was lucky enough to watch debut which I feel their debut was INSANE. i can’t believe how early on mark lee established himself as an actually GOOD rapper. there’s a lot of boys in nct so i had a lot of ‘em that I really liked, but mainly taeyong, jaehyun, and doyoung. i really liked the concept of their sub units, the dreamies were so young when they debuted and it was a treat to watch them grow as artists. i know exactly where I was when I listened to the 7th sense, fire truck, and chewing gum for the first time. i unfortunately do not know too many of their newer stuff besides title tracks but i really like a lot of the stuff that they put out.

my fave nct songs: wake up (SO underrated), the 7th sense, boss, baby don’t stop, black on black, cherry bomb, SUN&MOON (had like a 30 second clip of this song as my pinned tweet for months. it genuinely changed my life hearing this for the first time), 0 mile, baby don’t like it, limitless, kick it, Pandora’s box, nonstop, punch, life is still going on 💛, we go up, chewing gum, ridin, and regular!!

i also really liked day6, my favorite member was jae and my favorite song of all time will always be i smile!! I saw them live and heard shoot me for the first time it was CRAZY. other songs I really liked were; I would, i wait, letting go, blood, sing me, and somehow.

alright time for my big one!! i actively followed got7 since 2015 when I discovered them. by this time they had JUST released just right, and what an insanely good video to introduce someone new to them 😭 so perfectly cute and catchy, like how could you not fall in love? And with the sea of content i had with all the real got7 episodes it’s like it was destined for them to be my favorite group of all time. And it’s crazy the absolute whiplash I got that same year when they got all dark and released if you do!!!! both such amazing AMAZING songs to be released in one year.

I’m gonna go ahead and skip my Twitter career as an ahgase, including the exposé thread on mark’s friends which blew up my account (looking back it’s weird for me as a 14 year old to police whom he was friends with, and the mf I exposed mark is still friends with him sooo…anyway) it’s long and a little embarrassing but just know I was ride or fucking die for got7 on Twitter. i was on there everyday, counting down the days to their next comeback, live tweeting during vlive streams, sending out thousands of tweets a day to vote for them on award shows, crying and screaming and terrorizing the timeline anytime mark so much as breathed in a cute way.

speaking of which, got7 is another group that my love for them was so big, it migrated around to almost every member. i of course always loved mark and made that very known, but there were times when i was tweeting just a bit more about yugyeom, or jackson, or bambam, or (surprisingly) jaebeom.

my experience definitely changed after I saw them live for the first time in the pit in Miami. it was pretty life changing and i know I say that a lot, but it was first concert EVER and i was so excited and happy. i cried immediately when they came out singing let me. got to do photo op for them (my amazing mommy allowed me to experience this) the picture has me sitting with jaebeom posing cutely above me. i was wearing like a weird thrasher shirt with a navy blue striped shirt under it and had very old and raggedy braids…I was going through a rough time financially. i got to see them again in Newark in 2019!! I didn’t get to do a photo op that time, but I was a lot cuter in my outfit.

AI is Ruining Fashion

In recent years, the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has infiltrated various industries, including fashion design. This technological advancement has sparked debates and discussions about its impact on the creative process and the essence of fashion itself. While some may argue that AI brings innovation and efficiency to the table, there is a growing concern that it is slowly eroding what makes fashion unique.

Gone are the days when designers meticulously sketched their ideas, pouring their hearts and souls into every stroke. The process of creating a garment used to be an intimate journey where designers expressed their individuality and pushed boundaries. However, with AI algorithms now capable of churning out designs at lightning speed, something crucial seems to be missing – originality and the human touch.

Fashion, once regarded as a magnificent display of artistry, served as a powerful means for individuals to communicate their unique personalities and express themselves through their carefully curated clothing choices. It was an industry that thrived on celebrating diversity and embracing the beauty of each individual's distinctiveness. However, in recent times, the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in fashion design has brought about significant changes that threaten to dampen this vibrant spirit.

In an era where AI algorithms are increasingly being utilized to streamline production processes and optimize efficiency, there is a growing concern that creativity is taking a backseat. The intricate craftsmanship and imaginative designs that were once synonymous with the fashion world are now being overshadowed by soulless production lines driven solely by profit margins.

The introduction of AI technology into fashion design has undoubtedly revolutionized certain aspects of the industry. With its ability to analyze vast amounts of data and predict consumer trends accurately, AI has enabled designers to make more informed decisions regarding styles, colors, fabrics, and even pricing strategies. This newfound efficiency has undeniably streamlined operations within the sector.

However, amidst these advancements lies a disheartening reality: the loss of human touch in fashion creation. The essence of what made this industry so captivating - the passion-infused creativity - risks being diminished as machines.

As a Fashion Designer myself, the integration of AI technologies aims to address this disconnect, which seems tempting at first, until you try it yourself— You see if you are creative like me, you have a specific idea in mind already, or at least some part of it, and AI can help you to complete it or to give you a hint on what you could try, but if I am going to the AI to make my full collection out of a couple of words, there are two routes that your mind will take.

A. “this is nothing like what I wanted”

B. “this is perfect.”

And most of us, true creatives, end up in the (A) option. Why does this happen? Because AI right now, still can’t have this human feeling towards creation, there is no emotion attached to it, only the idea of something and the meaning of words to get to the end result. Sure, this logical thinking of a machine might be good for something like trend research, seeing what the public likes and what they don’t like as much, and seeing if there is a line path when it comes to style, but I can’t imagine AI ever doing something with soul, I don’t see the AI pulling out an Alexander McQueen Spring 1999, or a Yohji Yamamoto on the same year and season, or even Christain Dior’s New Look, Because it has no emotion to do it, it has no intent, and it has no reason for doing something as iconic as any other Designer ever did.

If some of you have chosen option (B), I can't help but feel a tinge of sadness for the state of your fashion and creative prowess. It seems that your sense of style and imagination are in such dire need of assistance from artificial intelligence. At this juncture, it is disheartening to see individuals relying on machines to generate ideas and bring their vision to life. This situation begs the question: Can true creativity and innovation be fully achieved through AI alone? Fashion has always been an industry known for pushing boundaries, taking risks, and celebrating individuality. It thrives on the ability to express one's unique perspective through original designs. But can a machine truly replicate that level of ingenuity? Personally, I find it highly doubtful. The essence of genuine creativity lies within human intuition, emotions, and experiences – qualities that cannot be replicated by algorithms or code alone.

So, yeah. There’s enough on Wei Ying’s plate already, meaning it’s not entirely welcome when he comes home and finds a man standing in his bedroom. A man in extravagant white robes, a ribbon tied around his forehead, long hair gathered into a topknot, fist clutching a sword at his side, who asks him, “Where am I?”

Wei Wuxian and Apple are doing their best for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. 

Xiao Zhan had trouble riding the donkey sitting side-saddle, so the Department of Questionable Practical Effects made him a fake leg to wear while riding regular style. 

Can you spot it? It’s very hard to spot. It is very convincing.

Simple Pleasures

Wei Wuxian takes his time wandering up the nearest mountain, and half of the cultivators in the land also wander up this mountain because...Night Hunting! The cultivators are hot and thirsty from walking because they forgot that they all know how to fly. 

Wei Wuxian relaxes by a well and listens to people stanning him.

I’m going to say it: Wei Wuxian never met a drinking vessel he couldn’t blow.

Everything is Beautiful at the Ballet

The actress who plays A-Yan is named Zhang Linran. She probably has studied dance since she was 4 and now she gets her big break which turns out to be feeding an apple to a donkey. So let’s pause for a second to look at how beautifully she moves.  

Reunions are Awkward, Part 1

Wei Wuxian meets up with one of his family members and it goes super well. 

I...like Jin Ling? He’s much less of a douchebag than his dad, his uncles Jin, Jiang, and Mo (the three stooges), and every damn one of his Jin cousins. He’s genuinely brave (his Dad’s primary good quality) and his hair is on fleek. He’s still a whiny diaper baby, but I like him.

Then Jiang Cheng shows up, looking fine as hell and radiating peak arrogant-prick energy.

When he discovers that ‘Mo Xuanyu” stuck a piece of paper to Jin Ling, he tells the child to literally murder him. Excellent uncleing! A+++++ would recommend.  

“In fact, literally murder anyone who uses Yiling Laozu’s tools, like talismans, lure flags, or spirit compasses - basically murder everyone in the Lan Clan plus those other fanboys we saw coming up the hill. Then get out there and make some friends, goddamn it!”

These nets full of cultivators on this daytime night hunt are the only time we ever see anything in a net during a night hunt.  In fact dudes constantly go night hunting and the only prey we ever see is rock lady, murder turtle, and a couple of rag mops in the lake. 

You Are Not Qualified to Speak to Me

Also radiating arrogant-prick energy on this occasion is Lan Wangji. He has been using pettiness as a weapon since long before he met this Jiang Cheng turkey, and he *brings it* when Jiang Cheng tries to have a conversation with him.

Letting your eyes wander everywhere except to his punchable face while you ignore his passive-aggressive questions? Quality work. 

Dropping a silence spell on his child and then letting your own child explain it to him? Golden. 

Lan Wangji is never ever going to forgive Jiang Cheng for what he did on cliff day, and his silence here is as pointed as an ice pick. I suspect the last words Lan Wangji actually spoke to him were “Jiang Wanyin, stop it,” sixteen years ago. 

Jiang Cheng is actually the bigger person in this particular interaction, visibly mastering his temper and telling Jin Ling to take his medicine. 

Reflecting

Wei Wuxian hangs out by a beautiful river and hallucinates for a while. River Jiang Yanli is nurturing and River Jiang Cheng is pissed off, so there are no surprises there.  River Jiang Cheng thinks that Wei Wuxian is a promise-breaking douchebag. He’s not exactly wrong. 

Courtesy of convenient gossiping cultivators, Wei Wuxian discovers that the 16 year old arrogant kid from the Jin clan who his brother from the Jiang clan has custody of is actually and quite obviously Jin Rulan.

Well fuck I guess now I care about something, that’s inconvenient. 

Needing to help parent the child of the sister who parented him is what draws Wei Wuxian fully into his new life. 

As soon as he has this realization, Apple comes back from roaming around, and never gives him any trouble after this for the rest of the story. Which...probably doesn’t mean anything. 

Wen Gravesite

Does Wen Ning hang out here because it’s where he and his (dead) people came from? Oh great, now I am sad. 

Judging by all the leaves on this grave thingy I’m going to say that this grave tender dude is, ah, not very good at his job. 

Get him, Jingyi!

I feel like maybe we all focus too much on how Lan Jingyi is so hilarious and sardonic and not enough on how he is a such a biscuit. 

Soul Grass

As mentioned in the previous post, Chinese spiritual concepts don’t always translate well into English. Soul grass? Sure, why not. 

This is where Wei Wuxian’s Sherlock Holmes brain starts to work, although he still doesn’t remember really basic stuff about Dafan Mountain. Dying and changing bodies is rough on the old neurochemistry. This creates more opportunities for flashbacks, however, and if there’s one thing The Untamed deffo needs more of, it’s kissing flashbacks.

Temple Statue

Presumably grave-tender dude is also in charge of clearing away spiderwebs at the temple, because it’s not getting done. 

Jin Ling walks into the temple blaspheming at full volume. 

Since this isn’t a Greek story, he isn’t immediately struck blind for this. Then when he wishes for the statue to come alive, it obligingly does.  Everything’s coming up Rulan!

Wei Wuxian shows up to rescue all the kids by throwing talismans at the monster which does not tip anyone off to who he is. 

Baby Cultivator Babysitting

Lan Wangji chills out in the cultivators’ pavilion with Jiang Cheng and their mutual hate boners.

Meanwhile, Wei Wuxian forgets all about his nephew and turns into cool professor guy, explaining the basics of soul-eating to the baby cultivators and gleefully encouraging their fear of Hanguang-Jun’s punishments. 

Because the Lan babies are good filial children they are super respectful and engaged with this random adult who is lecturing them. They also - like their own Hanguang-Jun at their age - see and admire Wei Wuxian’s intellect. It’s easy to forget how extremely smart Wei Wuxian is, because of how extremely dumb Wei Wuxian is.

Lan Jingyi suddenly figures out Wei Wuxian is not crazy. 

Bis. Kit. 

Then Rock Lady shows up and Jin Ling sticks 6 arrows into her while Lans Jingyi and Sizhui stand around not bothering to draw their swords.

I see a lot of comments about the bad effects in the statue sequences but I think Rock Lady is all right. The figure animation is decent and the lighting is no worse on her than on everything else in the scene. Her hair is nice, for a rock person.

Admittedly I just finished watching Guardian which has CGI monsters so bad they may have injured my retinas and possibly also my DNA, so the bar, for me, is pretty low. Rock lady clears it with room to spare.   

Note: Wei Wuxian’s flute playing does zippity towards controlling the statue. Not sure what his plan was here.

Wen Ning Kicks Ass

Now we get to meet Wen Ning, who appears to be a stone-cold badass. Later we will discover how hilariously inaccurate that assessment is. 

While all versions of Wen Ning are delightful, this version of Wen Ning is also...strangely attractive? He’s got a Patti-Smith-Horses-Era vibe here, instead of his more usual lost-baby-dork vibe. And his dreamy “I have nails in my head” expression is intriguing. 

I mean, he’s not a total snack like zombie Song Lan or pre-zombie Song Lan or blind Song Lan or post-zombie Song Lan, but this look is a good one for Wen Ning, is what I’m saying.

Reunions are Awkward, Part 2

Lan Wangji, who has 99% already recognized Wei Wuxian because of the haunted sword and the fierce jawline and beautiful neck and tiny tiny waist, is summoned by his flute playing as inexorably as the Ghost General was. 

Jiang Cheng also recognizes Wei Wuxian and goes into full beatdown mode, thwarted (silently) by Lan Wangji. Wei Wuxian attempts to preserve his incognito by sassing Jiang Cheng in as sibling-like a manner as possible. 

Hanguang-Jun’s Pro-Ghost Agenda Has Been Clear for Some Time

This Jiang/Lan fight is hilarious when you consider the implications.

Macroexpression vs. Microexpression

Mo Xuanyu brought Wei Wuxian back using sacrifice summons, a dark ritual invented by Wei Wuxian that he, most likely, did NOT show to Lan Wangji back in the day. So it’s a pretty safe bet that Lan Wangji doesn’t know that Wei Wuxian was gifted a body, rather than stealing one.

when your brother turns around, you must whip him you will never live it down unless you whip him

When Jiang Cheng lets loose with Zidian, it’s not just because he’s angry. He’s using purple power to force Wei Wuxian’s ghost out of the body he’s apparently possessed. And Lan Wangji instantly STOPS him from doing that.

Clan Leader Jiang: this person has been possessed, against their will, by an evil ghost

But I recommend starting with Going Seventeen and making your way up. They have a lot of good music so you won't be disappointed even by their oldest albums! -> YES I did notice that even as I went further back the quality is still so good??? like heng:garae is 2020 so FOUR YEARS AGO now but not a single skippable track???

Iconic tracks you NEED to listen to would be Fear (a classic), Mansae (another classic and a banger), Highlight (I might be saying this because I'm a performance unit girlie but that song is genuinely amazing), Clap (that song is so iconic omg), Don't Wanna Cry (that song is a masterpiece), Home;Run (the song that drew my interest to Seventeen!), Hot (honestly, just check out the whole album because it's amazing. It was also my first album as a Carat), Thanks (another classic, that song is beautiful), and then you can go in order (either oldest to newest or vice versa!). -> when I tell you Fear has me in a chokehold I'm not kidding. like. they could put out an official phonebook for that song alone and I would buy it like there's no tomorrow. so many thoughts on Fear 😭 Hot also.. whew that MV editing is 🔥 & I'll let you know my thoughts on the others once I get there!!!
