this could just be "gatekeeping but im being really polite abt it" but. its less abt thinking only certain ppl should be allowed in, and more like i dont wanna open a pandoras box that makes it difficult for everyone to have fun. shrugs
i wanna post my skip to loafer art but i cant do it knowing ppl are gonna put it on tiktok and pinterest bc itd be like. bringing an invasive species ykwim
#i was in the pokeask community and the only reason i probably didnt get involved in most drama is because i was only in 1-2 discord servers#and i was just staying in my own lane. and i try not to get worked up over smth i dont like in a fandom cuz my first instinct is walk out#ship art i dont really like? ok cool. do your thing man feed your troops. im going to go play over here. opinion i dont agree with?#ill probably keep it in mind whether i want to or not but otherwise not gonna engage. maybe my opinion will change who knows#i think my fandom experience is just gratuitous use of the block button and walking around avoiding eye contact#im not sure if there are people who get into something popular for the sake of it being popular. besides influencers at least#because deep down i really think there has to be something that draws us in and because its different for everyone its easy for it to#look like the wrong thing to another person. im painfully aware of that and im still struggling to get out of my headspace sometimes#but i just. idk. id rather if people just learned to say 'ok the way u live your life is different but if it isnt hurtful or damaging ill#just do my own thing over here.' and then hit the block button. or at least figure smth out privately#i hate the culture of doing everything for everyone under the guise of it bringing people together because sometimes things just arent#meant for me. and unless its done with malicious intent it mightve been an oversight or just plain out doesnt vibe with me#i dont know how to explain this but sometimes things that feel like an attack could be smth that wasnt presented in a way catered to u#and speaking as a fan artist ive found it easier to draw for myself and the right ppl eventually finding it than making smth#engineered to not be taken the wrong way that it loses its depth and for lack of a better word. its soul. being allowed to say i made that#i see a lot of posts abt fandom getting characters wrong or missing key parts of a character.and sometimes i have to agree#like i heard they took out live action sokkas sexism which was a really important point of his characters development. and i know that#pointing these things out can help make people more aware of things they mightve been missing or not realized#but maybe they should be treated less as a call for argument and more like. idk. sitting in a room full of ppl with some heads nodding#yapping

the jjk naga au is getting to me……..i fear im terminally ill with thoughts about it (seriously, top of the food chain is such a yummy series (?) and im soso obsessed with how you've written gojo’s and geto’s characters, i reread your works everyday, i just can't get enough! ^^)
and i hope you don't mind if i share a Thought i've had :3 (i was going for an mc who used to draw/sketch/make art just for this specific scenario)
Imagine that your time on the island's barely dragging on. There's only so many berries to pick and so many times you can braid Suguru’s hair into elaborate styles. You're bored, stranded on an island with these two naga captors and their (adorable) hatchlings.
Well, there's always playing with the hatchlings, or tussling with Satoru (he calls it playtime but you're far from amused when you get a faceful of sand when he tugs your legs out from under you) but you miss your alone time. That little bubble of yours. Ah, privacy.
Like that'd happen, but you can dream.
It's a stroke of chance when Nobara comes to you with her new haul of human paraphernalia, all too excitedly. A leather satchel. Some printed photos of nameless faces with scenic backgrounds. A waterlogged cell phone, practically unsalvageable. A journal with pages so thoroughly soaked, it falls apart in wet clumps.
“What are these?” You can hear her rummage through the bag, her nose wrinkling slightly. “Smells weird.” And so you look over to see her glaring down at a (relatively new) set of oil paints, sealed away in the bag. It's likely that she picked up on the scent of the strange chemicals.
Your eyes are bright with hope as you gently pull it out of her hold. Ready to answer her million and one questions.
After all this time that you've thought of what you'd wished to be able to do, you're at a loss. You've got a wall to the cave to yourself, a set of oil paints and a makeshift brush from the wood of this one particular tree off the side of the island. The only thing you're missing right now is inspiration.
A muse.
Satoru and Suguru are snoozing. Peaceful and laid in each other's arms. you can appreciate the quiet to yourself.
You hear familiar shrieks and playful yells of the hatchlings' name.
The slight bit of quiet, then.
Nobara and Yuji are wrestling in the water, arguing over something in a mix of clicks and curse words. The sight is an endearing one, but moving too quick.
So you do some searching inward.
And you paint what comes to mind. What you've felt this whole time.
“What's that?” Ever the curious one, Nobara rests her head on your shoulder to peer over at your artwork in progress. She doesn't understand any of it—and she wouldn't. Your human upbringing is leagues different from hers.
“... Home.” You murmur, and Nobara’s glancing up at you in wonder because of the way your eyes glisten, the way your hand lingers over to paint in a fine detail.
“Well, it was my home.” You smile back at her, and she's at ease. You're not sad—no, she'd make it everybody's problem if you were—and then she makes sure to know everything about the scene you've drawn.
“What's that?” She gestures. Careful not to smudge the paint off, index outstretched to a figure she doesn't recognise.
“That's a lamp. When it gets dark, we switch it on so there's light. Like the torches in the cave, you see?”
“Torch? Hmm… and that?”
It seems that talking about your old home brings a warmth to your voice. Nobara beams up at you all giddy as you explain, eager to learn more. Eventually Yuji slinks over to listen as well, more so to the sound of your voice than what you're saying.
You sound happy, the pair can tell. Like when you taste a berry sweeter than the others, or when you tell them stories of your own to lull them to sleep. They like the chime of joy in your voice, and neither stops you from rambling about your once-home.
It's a moment of peace. and warmth.
Yet it shatters for you when you feel a strong muscled tail coil around your waist, that familiar sense of having your space invaded taking over. A very intrigued Satoru looms over you, eyes glinting as he takes in the sight. You know that something's off—he seems more punishing with how tight he holds you.
“Home, huh?” Satoru repeats, and even the hatchlings can tell that's their cue to leave. Nobara offers you a lingering glance, almost pouty before she slithers away, following after her brother.
The next early morning, you find your home gone.
In a sense, it's a bitter joke to be played on you. Not only were you never going to be back at your own place, even the expression of the idea was taken away from you. Just like your freedom was. your choice. The wall of the cave was bare, not a hint of the paint or the sentiment lingering behind. As if someone hit a total reset. Paints nowhere to be found, your canvas scrubbed clean.
Suguru stretches out from behind you, one of the first few to wake up, wrapping you in a lazy hug, before he follows your gaze. You'd call the soft laugh that rumbles in his chest cruel. Mocking your homesickness in that loving way only he could manage.
“Must've rained last night.” He comments at the absence of your artwork, and you wish you could pinpoint at least an inch or sarcasm in his words. You nod quietly, and he draws you in closer.
Cold lips brush against your temple.
“The only home you need is with us.”
The sand under your feet is drier than your throat.
(oh my god im sorry if i rambled too much, i hope its not annoying ^^;;)
jaw dropping. amazing. wHAT????
I love how anon made Nobara's characterization so much sweeter and innocent. Though it's probably cuz she's younger in this fic...considering she can still stay on land. And satosugu not even wanting you to THINK of your old home is so accurate. I feel the more they learn your language, the more eager they'll be to display ownership.
Anyway thx anon for making the fourth part! from now on if anyone wants an addition to the naga series turn to the anons not me.

The Genius Of Not Labeling Jinx
The Messiness Of Labels
Tumblr media
Jinx from Arcane is known as the poster girl for borderline personality disorder, but today we wanted to talk about some of the other conditions she has symptoms of (but doesn't necessarily qualify for) and why it was smart to not label her.
Let's go over the different conditions Jinx could have:
Of course first we have BPD. Not gonna spend too much time on this one but she hits all nine of the diagnostic criteria!
Schizophrenia:
Tumblr media
Jinx is seen to hallucinate many times in the show. She gets visual hallucinations of her family she has guilt over killing. She experiences overlays of child like drawings. She has auditory hallucinations and delusions as well.
BPD can come with hallucinations and delusions but it tends to more often be auditory hallucinations and delusions of grandeur than anything else. Schizophrenia and bipolar are the conditions more likely to cause the type of psychosis Jinx experiences.
DID/OSDD:
Tumblr media
An argument could also be made for Jinx nearing a dissociative disorder. We haven't seen much of the show from the season two trailers, but they do seem to be hinting at Jinx embracing Powder a bit more.
It is common in BPD for the person to believe they are a completely different person than their past self. We think this is well represented in characters like Spinel from Steven Universe or Ashley Graves (Leyley) from The Coffin of Andy and Leyley. This is of course also shown in Jinx with Powder.
Tumblr media
But Jinx and Powder's differences go a bit beyond the typical BPD self image issues. Their personalities while similar, are quite different. And instead of Powder staying purely in the past, Jinx switches between the two personalities. You can see her face change to be more soft like Powder in certain scenes. (They quite literally transform her face).
Tumblr media
Some other differences are; Jinx is represented by pink, while Powder tends to be blue. Jinx is left handed while Powder is right handed (she uses her left to shoot, right for other stuff). Jinx is the daughter of Silco, Powder is the daughter of Vander. Both are the child of Zaun.
Tumblr media
Jinx is of course also known to dissociate in many scenes. (As a side detail we just love how well animated the face acting is).
Tumblr media
While Jinx fits BPD best it is also important to note that comorbidity is a real thing. While rare, all three of these conditions can be had at the same time. Personality disorders and dissociative disorders especially tend to be comorbid.
The most likely reason Jinx isn't diagnosed with anything is stigma. Giving a terrorist a mental illness may come off a demonizing. But Jinx is still loved by the neurodivergent community because her symptoms and trauma are treated with care. She's a fun relatable character. But we think another genius reason is because she's all encompassing. Saying she has BPD may make anyone who doesn't have BPD immediately think "oh, well then I won't find her relatable". But in an age where fandom likes relatability and kins the most, you cannot afford that. Instead really any neurodivergent can see themselves in her.
Tumblr media
This is both a smart strategy but also just an accurate portrayal of how real life ends up looking. Medical conditions are technically social constructs. That's not to say they aren't real, but that they are labeled by humans. It's a list of behaviors the body or brain executes. But humans are messy! Who's to say one person is gonna nearly fit into that BPD box? Eventually you get to a point where you have someone diagnosed with 10 or so mental conditions! (Hi yes it's us, we have been diagnosed with 10). Humans were not made to fit into boxes. You see this pattern with queer identities all the time as well. The creation of microlabels has greatly helped people categorize and understand themselves, but at the end of the day the most accurate label is: you. You are you. Insert name here is Insert name here.
Thanks for listening to the ramblings of a mad Jinx kinnie. Here's to hoping season two is just as good as the first one! Still absolutely loving Jinx's new look!

Negaverse Megavolt concept!
Design notes and personality rant stuff under the cut. Warning. It's long and unreadable.
The purse thing is a generator (Ill probably design it as a prop at some point considering It does NOT look like one but portable generators are hard for me to draw for some reason)
I swapped which eye has the white in it (even though I usually draw it on the wrong side anyway bc idk my lefts from rights..)
I wanted to make the darks very prominent bc the yellows are very prominent in the original
I went with blues bc it's the only other colour usually associated with lightning and electricity.
The teal parts of his outfit are lights! They glow when he's fully charged and fade out when he's out of power.
You can't see it in this pose but his hands have outlets on the back that work the same as megavolt's chest outlet. He can power weapons with them and charge himself without the pain of straight up shocking himself
I wanted to make his hair look like it's thinning out bc of age and repeated electrical damage but I wasn't sure how to do that so it's not really present. Did give him some white hair though.
His glasses are prescription! Can't see nothin without em..
Okay now some personality stuff!
Megavolt is the hardest villain to swap bc his personality is "insane guy with memory issues but is smart" and it's kinda hard to flip that around without just making him boring? Removing his intelligence when it comes to electricity would also negate his whole gimmick which makes things worse. but I do have a few ideas. It's ironic I struggle with him so much considering he's literally my favourite character...
He was popular in high school. He was friends with negaduck and they were both pretty well liked jock types before negaduck started doing major crimes (though I imagine he was always a delinquent of sorts. Just didn't start destroying the city till he graduated) clash reunion is a whole beast on it's own bc megavolt has the most in depth backstory which means a lot of reworking for a personality swap au.
His interests, like dw's megavolt, lie in magnesium, electronics, and engineering. The difference is, despite being Intruiged by these subjects, he didn't go out of his way to learn about the. He was more focused on his peers approval back then. Not to mention the fact that negaduck was an extremely toxic friend and would absolutely make fun of him constantly for it. (He doesn't even actually care, he's just an asshole.)
Eventually after gaining his abilities he began to study electricity and start inventing things. Only.. He's pretty bad at it. Things tend to backfire on him. Quackerjack has a lot more experience than him when it comes to engineering and he tries to help him out but the guy's kinda cursed. I haven't really decided if it's more dt17 gyro where everything he makes ends up turning against him or guy am I from the Netflix green eggs and ham show where everything he makes just kinda explodes. Maybe a bit of both. Either way it's very over the top and is more trouble than it's worth, but that doesn't stop him! (Oh God someone stop him)
I didn't wanna just take away his mental issues completely because the opposite of that is literally nothing. It adds.. Nothing. It just gives him less to work with. And it's already hard enough to do this guy. (Plus it kinda implies mentally ill people can't be heroes and that's.. Mm....) So instead I decided to change how he reacts to it.
He still has memory issues along with other physical and mental symptoms of electrical injury, he just really likes to pretend he doesn't. He completely ignores his deteriorating mental, physical, and emotional health <33
I wanna flesh him out more but I'd only be able to do that if I write with him and I'm fantastic at procrastinating my writing projects <33

A lot has been written on how much Cash Buckzo sucks, but one thing that doesn't come up as often is that he was an abusive father-figure to Fizz too. From what we've been shown so far, it doesn't look like Fizz had other guardians in his life. Cash seemed to be in charge of him post-fire, based on the trailer and his ability to keep Blitzø and Fizz apart. Plus, at Fizz's birthday, when Cash has the "Wish You Were My Son" card, no other parents are around making wtf faces.
And if Cash was Fizz's main guardian, he had Fizz and Blitzø in a textbook golden child/scapegoat dynamic. Pulling from the first site that came up on google (replace narcissistic mother with a more general term):
The Golden Child, as the name suggests, is the best and most wonderful child – at least in the eyes of the Narcissistic Mother. It seems to be that the Narcissistic Mother picks the Golden Child to be an extension of herself... Her most minor achievements are celebrated and held up for admiration.
And:
The Scapegoat on the other hand is, also as the name suggests, the person on whom all the ills of the family are projected. They can do no right. Their major achievements are dismissed. Any money spent on them is the bare minimum and is spent begrudgingly.
It's a dynamic that allows for manipulation of both kids, and it's particularly effective because the Scapegoat acts as an automatic threat for the Golden Child. If they step too far out of line, that could be them one day.
Beyond that, though, in The Circus, we see Cash was just as willing to sell Fizz as Blitzø: just for a higher price. And it wasn't even because he valued Fizz more as a person; it was because Fizz--who was probably about ten--had more shows to do. So Fizz has been the star of the circus (Cash outright says he's the main draw) since he was elementary school age, and doing 3+ shows a day at that point; with Blitzø's neglect acting as an implicit threat that if he were to falter or fail, his preferential treatment might be withdrawn.
And this is so normalized for Fizz, that he keeps cheering at the Mammon concert when Mammon talks about exploiting the pageant winners. Blitzø clues in at once, but Fizz has already been blinded to all the red flags. When Blitzø tries telling him he doesn't need Mammon's approval, Fizz doubles down and insists he'll win it anyway: he needs to be perfect. The way Cash raised Fizz all but groomed him to be Mammon's ideal brand baby; to accept Mammon's treatment, and immediately internalize the idea that his worth is directly tied into how well he performs.
Yes, Mammon's intentional manipulation was part of why Fizz felt like he needed to stick around so long; but I'd argue Cash's "parenting" shaped Fizz in a way that led him to accept those ideas so readily in the first place.
Final thought: we don't see what happened to Cash after the fire, beyond the glimpse of him barring Blitzø from Fizz in the trailer. I've seen theories that Mammon eventually separated Fizz from Cash, but I'd find it slightly more poignant if Blitzø and Fizz were parallels here, and when his injuries from the fire kept Fizz from performing at his best, Cash eventually turned from him as well--too impatient to stick around or help him recover. It'd make sense for Cash's character, and it'd only heighten why Fizz felt so determined not to let Mammon down. If he'd "failed" a father figure once, he would've been that much more desperate to please his new one, especially since winning the pageant would've likely saved Fizz from difficult circumstances if Cash had given up on him.
In summary, Cash did Fizz just as dirty as he did Blitzø. Both of them were treated as potentially disposable products: just products of different value. Fizz believed he needed to sell himself to be "good enough"; Blitzø thinks he'll never be good enough. And to put a cherry on top, the jealousy/bitter feelings that came from this dynamic laid the foundation for Fizz to believe the worst of Blitzø regarding the fire, and for Blitzø to assume Fizz would do so with full knowledge of the situation.

(it's still not what i had quite in mind, but it's a good start imo)
the funny thing about drawing either saran or vika is how different the challenge settings are for me.
saran is a type of character that is familiar to me - be it my, funnily enough, aversion of eye motifs irl that instead becomes a fascination in drawn media, his ghostly/evil entity self that is right up my alley of enjoyment, his cat-gremlin-menace presence that goes soft around vika... saran simply gives me a lot to work with that i know where to start already and am comfortable with (and it can go wild, be it in a horror-esque way, or something soft and silly).
vika on the other hand is too vast for me to capture yet - he's detached from everything, be it his senses or the world; he is a living ghost that barely is tethered to reality, and that is hard for me to capture, even if i can personally relate to that (maybe that is why it's so hard, dissociating irl is already hard to track, now trying to put it down visually, in a way, makes it a fun challenge). but there is also a softness, this yearning that fills this emptiness around him that has a small line to walk on to capture it correctly, and not add too much.
what i'm trying to say is, both of them are very fun characters to capture in moments, but they have different levels of challenge that don't really overlap, and with saran being a more of an eye-catching presence (heh), it's the easier choice to draw...and also he keeps haunting me during the night, it feels like i need to speed up my vika skills to appease him (so worth it).
both of them are imbedded in my brain now, and it's delightful, 10/10, will keep losing my mind again and again. eventually i will bring a whole body vika with what i had in mind, as an offering from my delight that you accidentally brought me /ᐠ˵- ⩊ -˵マ
WAHHHHHH HE LOOKS SO CUTE LOOK AT MY (grown ass) FLUFFY BABY AAAAAAA
also i get what you mean with vika being a challenge to draw (not as in hes hard to draw but as in for others to capture him since its different for me ofc with him being my OC etcetc)
saran still keeps haunting you at night? 😭 whats my mans doing he rlly needs to behave smh my head
again pls dont feel obligated to draw him but ill still look forward if you draw him again HAZGDHXH he looks so lovely in ur style aaaa im eating this....thanku sm 🙏🙏🙏🙏
(omg u included the spiderlilies bc they remind him of saran .... i cry 🖤)

Do you have any tips on drawing spidersonas? I’ve had an idea for my own for a while but I’ve been having trouble executing it.
since this is a pretty broad question im not entirely sure what it entails, but ill answer to the best of my ability.
when it comes to designing a sona i highlyyy recommend referencing kris ankas designs for atsv. looking at his designs for the background spiders in the spider society really helps me get the creativity going.
i also highly recommend coming up with a theme and sticking to it, having a specific direction for the design is super helpful. i would also recommend not forgetting to keep the spider theme in there, often times i feel like people get lost in their sonas other theme and completely lose that aspect. when looking at the design, ask yourself this; would the citizens in their universe look at this character and have their first thought be “spider”?
i would also just generally recommend studying spider-man art in general. he was super hard for me to draw initially so id suggest looking at spider-man/spider-verse art you like and trying to replicate what you like about it in your sketches, if that makes any sense
also dont feel the need to get it right the first try! try different ideas, you’ll eventually land on something you love by keeping your ideas open
this mightve been nonsense and if it was i apologize

More designs, this time it's for the uniforms each purposed messenger wore during their respective missions
Initially I was trying to make Hunter's design look like a mix between a modern uniform and the Ancient's fashion, but I couldn't really get it to work I think. And speaking of Hunter's design not working, I know character design is generally a very iterative process but I usually am pretty happy with my first try, except this time. I had to try a bit harder with Hunter
Tumblr media
The first design (middle) had loose and baggy pants and golden accessories for the boots, both ideas taken from one of Downpour's murals depicting an Ancient, but it just didn't look right to me. Couldn't really say why. For the second attempt I tried to change just a little bit because I wanted it to be clearer that they also had bandages on their legs, but in the end I just ended up changing all of the bottom by making the pants stiffer, more like the coat they'll eventually use in their normal design (it's also the same color, they're probably made out of the same material), and completely removing the boots and going for full bandages like both Spearmaster designs. Also changed the bag as I felt it just looked better lol Initially I wasn't happy at all with the color palette but the next day I felt better about it for some reason, still not completely convinced but not sure what else to do
NSH doesn't really care much about tradition or keeping the Ancient's customs alive, but bandages, besides their symbolic meaning, also were believed to help with illnesses and unfortunate growths. This doesn't have much scientific basis but it's better than nothing
Spearmaster's design is way simpler, and the process of making it was too. Since SRS had to try to make them not draw too much unwanted attention and the wild purposed mutations didn't help much already, their uniform couldn't really be as obvious as Hunter's, so it's very close to the normal clothes Slugcats usually wear, with just a tiny bit of more refinement
Also, I think I'm getting quite better at drawing different body-types I think? Like for example in the last post with the siblings, Monk has noticeably chubbier arms, and here Hunter looks convincingly very muscular and buff. I think I'm still very inconsistent when trying to keep these between multiple drawings though, but I'll get better :]

ok, ive read a few reviews, i have marinated on the story a little. i think i can put together a more thorough review of the apocalypse of herschel schoen.
ill rip the band aid right off, i dont think i enjoyed it very much. it is dense, and it is morose, and it is very sad and tragic. It takes effort to read and your reward for those efforts are pages upon pages of a sad family coming apart and self destroying, with a hefty serving of deranged theological disquisitions. all written on an ornate portentous, reiterative style that eventually wears off its welcome.
@thecurioustale claimed that for him this book dignifies and humanizes herschel. that hile it presents us someone with severe mental issues and deliriums, it puts things from his perspectiv, it makes us empathize with him. this story had no such effect on me. in fact quite the opposite: i found that the more i understood herschel the more i disliked this guy, for one simple reason. he is gurion mccabe.
there have been many comments drawing parallels between nostalgebraists previous stories and other famous works of fiction. people have said that floornight is his evangelion, that northern caves is his house of leaves, that almost nowhere is his homestuck.
well, the apocalypse of herschel schoen is very much nostalgebraist's The Instructions. a text written and compiled in-universe as a sort of testament/conversion book/biography about a jewish kid with mental issues and his own delirious interpretation of judaism who tries to ennact by force his beliefs upon the world. the only diference is that herschel is a lot more realistically pathetic and less threatning than gurion. but he IS gurion.
he is how harry james evan verres potter comes off to anyone who doesnt like hpmor. he is a self important, arrogant, sanctimounious, deranged little shit with all the makings of a cult leader. and he ends up sacrificing all of humanity to the AI overlords, for all this i had a hard time enjoying the time i spend following him around.
beyond that i get the impression this book is made of a lot of different ideas rob wanted to explore and play around with but all these ideas dont necesarily cohere thematically (the vague anacronistic feeling of it all, the shared narration between herschel and miriam, whatever was going on with miriam's own strange ideology, the meditations on AI risk, the numerous inconsistencies in the narrative and the plot, the entire chapter of SHE OF HIGH MIND). these are all cool ideas on their own but the whole feels less than the sum of its parts. there are a lot more questions than answers in this book and by the end of it i was left with the vague and dissapointed impression that most of these questions dont really have answers and are there just to look cool.
but really i cant call any of these things flaws necesarily, i know they are here by design and they were indeed done masterfully. im sure there is a lot to get out of this book if you are into that sort of thing, and i could even see myself getting into all this if one key element wasnt missing that i personally really need in my stories and that is "human conection".
there is a thing that happens in this genre of stories, stories like RA or Fine structure or Unsong, or Worm or homestuck or even almost nowhere. there is only so much you can dial things up to eleven before i stop caring, before i lose all emotional investment on the story. is just talking about great cosmic inhuman things and i read stories for human drama. as i read chapter 21 i couldnt help but wonder what happened to frederick, (who was an continues to be my favourite character in the whole story, oh how i wish this could have been an entire book only about his conversations with herschel, those were far and above my favourite sections) would we get to see one final conversation between him and herschel or was their sad encounter with damian all we get? what happened to ruth and her plan to presumably bomb the eggert labs? will mirian be happy with vincent? but no, by all means herschel, keep talking to that ant.
no to be fair, this book had me hooked all through out the first half, up until herschel takes the train to manhattan. and the entire reveal in chapter 21 was riveting and i couldnt stop reading this thing once i got there. i want to insist, this book is indeed masterful, and if i complain is simply because of how it didnt manage to dance to MY taste.
overall i could have done with more scenes of herschel at school. herschel interacting with other students, with the teachers, with madeline, with frederick, sweet satanic brilliant frederick.
(complete tangent but frederick is so fascinating. i love how he doesnt mind any of herschel strange beliefs or his childish behavior or his cringe inducing moments, all he cares about is that he got them all on raven, and as far as frederick is concerned that is all that matters to him. i love how patient he is, how he knows that herschel finds the machines abominable but he doesnt mind, he appreciate he weird new perspective herschel brings into his conversations, i love how frederick clearly is very weird in his own way because of how he doesnt mind interacting with a clearly younger kid when that could be social suicide in high school, how he doesnt mind that his mom is a wanted criminal, herschel is his friend and he understand him whent he talks to him and he got them all on raven. ultimatly i loved him because his conversations with herchel reminds so so so much to my conversations with @ericvilas hen he sits down to patiently explain quantum mechanics to me, ok tangent over)
strange fascinating story hat i cant say i enjoyed but i AM glad i read. 8/10

This one is actually cropped from a bigger drawing of all 4 of them, hence why it's both crunched and there's more art peeking out from the side.
Meet Matosō Dokuna, better known (and really only known) as Ingenious. I never drew him enough, but he was definitely one of my favorites. He and Cheshire are in a constant battle for second place, but I think Ingenious has him beaten out just a little bit.
Ingenious had the least story written, but I think he had the best-formed concept and character. He was very eccentric and pretty frail—though nobody knew if he always had a cold or flu, or if he was chronically ill. This unknown health status was a way for Aizawa to wear a face mask, hiding his face! Aizawa also wears contacts as Ingenious, which makes his quirk harder to use but makes him harder to recognize. Hiding the lower half of his face, contacts, and hair extensions are just a few of his tricks for undercover! We're in a world with quirks, there are so many options!
Ingenious "had" palilalia—a rare speech disorder characterized by the involuntary repetition of one's own phrases, words, or syllables two or more times in a row. (It's important to note that he is a character being played in-universe, and thus does not "have" any disorders.) I didn't know that was a real thing when coming up with the concept for him, but now I do and will be doing lots of research!
Ingenious was a villain costume and support weapon designer who worked in the black market. Support weapon design was a lucrative business, that more often than not led right to the heart of a villain organization.
More on that under the cut.
Ingenious was taken in by different villain groups to design costumes and support items, which allowed him to gather information on them and groups working closely with or against them. In the newer years, villains have forgone professional costumes, but back when Ingenious was on the scene, nobody was a proper villain without an official look. Maybe that was because of propaganda on the HPSC's part, but you'd never know. (He's been retired for quite some years now. R.I.P. Ingenious, you'd have loved Stain and the costumes he inspired.)
Ingenious's designs were originally provided by the HPSC, but eventually, the iffy costumes and lackluster support items (the mission wasn't a top priority and they didn't particularly want to give villains great support) being delivered began to make Ingenious the least profitable in the market. Aizawa realized the mission could not continue like this, so he began to design the costumes and support items himself. After Aizawa's hard work on researching trends in villain appearances and learning how to do some very basic figure drawing (both with a bit of help from some associates), Ingenious was top of the market. Dokuna's character traits were based on Present Mic, villains Aizawa had come across, and the over-the-top characters in dramas (Aizawa was bored while researching).
Ingenious's "quirk" is called "Materialize" and is similar to Yaoyorozu Momo's "Creation", except everything he creates takes the actual amount of time a 3D printer would. This allows him to take hours or even days to himself without people bothering him because he's "still materializing" and if they bother him too much, he can't focus on making good quality materials.
Oh, also, he loves Barbie.

slides in which of your ocs is your favorite to draw? Or if you can't pick favorites what about an oc you're particularly proud of, like a color combination in their design you got Just Right? What about favorite oc to write? This is absolutely an invitation to go nuts with the details, I love hearing about conceptual stuff and visual design
ok so. my favourite to draw is zyx (previously known as jellybean) but also they're the one i just can't settle on what their outfit should look like so i just change it every single time. maybe thats why theyre so fun tbh...? bc i jsut experiment every single time instead of working towards an already established design.....
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
though I'm particularly proud of serena's design. though i must admit. I made a sims for her in ts4 and after not finding the hairstyle i designed for her i used a different one and its growing on me oughogooudhhah i almost prefer it now. maybe ill draw that newer design sometime.. i love her. demon of gluttony ♥ sometimes she craves burger, sometimes it's soda cans and sometimes it's instagram likes..
Tumblr media
Though honestly im proud of most characters bc i always put love and effort into them how could i not guhhuadhughu..... i don't have any recent "finished" art of a lot of heavy force characters bc i usually doodle them in my sketchbook...... but eventually i'll share more abt them T_T im just super picky with when a character is "designed enough" to be percieved visually...
Right now I'm writing a lot of heavy force stuff so those characters just feel most fun rn. I have not written much actual story yet, mostly just doing the outline rn, but the trio of sera, arch and zenox is super fun. I've already mentioned before how they are kind of two opposing fronts where zenox is caught between; while the two opposing parties also have some stuff they admire abt the other, and a common ground opinion of "zenox is annoying and always gets me in trouble for never taking anything seriously" so the dynamic is interesting.
i also love working on jupiter bc hes so fucking extra. theatrics just go hard. the same kind of goes for angel, she's very extreme in a lot of the things she does, says, thinks.

idont think anybody understands sheffbrien the way I do (insane) I'm sorry they're literally so bad for each other (affectionate) I could go on and on forever. I will actually. sheffbrien post be upon ye. thanks to ashe for talking about this w me on discord. this is a kinda obrien centric post bc of that loll but I'm obvi getting into sheffields whole deal too
having reread tc22 again and done some literary analysis a few days ago on a plane at 2 in the morning (I'm out of the country rn helloo ^_^) I picked up on a lot of thematics for them I find very interesting. long post ahead!
1 - the dynamics in their relationship are so wildly interesting. I think their characterization in tc22 does wonders for them. firstly, there are a lot of false differences id say? they seem so different, but when you boil it down they have a lot in common. sheffield is affluent and intelligent but has a spiteful and hotheaded side, obrien is seen as angry or rude but is taken for granted with his intelligence quite often by others. he got into an ivy league school at 17. there's also how sheffield seems so charismatic while obrien is abrasive and lonely, but they both really have no other friends when you get down to it? and last example for now, sheffield sees himself as divine while obrien seems to have renounced religion, but he really hasn't done the work of removing his mindset from a catholic(?) framework. expanding on that,
2 - obrien has religious trauma and this is heavily established. he doesn't actually ever move past religion as a concept though, he just moves on from God. he replaces his concept of God with his concept of his sister. more on this later. sheffield also has a relationship with religion, but more in the sense that he inherently sees himself as something unlike humanity, something greater and to be revered. he refers to himself as an angel in a way that doesn't strike me as being ingenuine the way he does in other places. I need to draw art about this it makes me abnormal
3 - for obrien specifically, there are some insanely interesting threads left about his trauma creating a savior complex within him. obviously shown at the start of the story with professor harris, but there are also the times he mentions going into genetics due to his guilt and wanting to entirely eliminate the disease that disabled his sister and when he says he feels an involuntary sympathy for stella when he found out she didn't mean to kill harris. it also makes me wonder if that plays into his protectiveness of sera later on.
4 - obrien has some severe internalized ableism going on that I wish more people actually picked apart. I know tc22 is a small scale story and a lot of people haven't read it, but it's fascinating stuff. he obviously grew up with the mindset that his sister was somehow contagious and describes how he felt he would somehow fall ill because of this, and that sort of mindset does a lot to dehumanize somebody in a person's mind. after eventually passing on an illness to her that results in her death, he is driven entirely by guilt as a character. he becomes certain that if God were fair and true, he would have died instead of her. but, like I mentioned before, he never really renounces religion in any specific way aside from this. he even mentions how he now prays to his sister instead of God, which I think is so fascinating. he never saw his sister as a person, and by elevating her to this status of somebody he needs to grovel to or even just uses as a holy figure in his life, he continues to see her as inhuman. he recognizes his past ableism, but he never does anything to deconstruct and rebuild from it. much like with his relationship with religion!
5 - obrien is treated by dds2 as the morally virtuous character, but he's really not (if you get the context from tc22). my boyfriend put it as him being just on the right side of history, which I absolutely agree with. I know tc22 was probably written after dds2 and doesn't necessarily inform the writing decisions for the games, but it definitely adds juicy layers to me. obrien is seemingly not motivated by any true desire to help sera or the nameless sufferers of CATCH22, he is motivated by the guilt from his sisters death hanging over him like a shadow. not to say he doesn't care at all, but it seems more like a quest to make up for his sins in the eyes of his sister than a desire to do good, which seems awfully catholic to me. this is absolutely the most interesting part of his character presented by the narrative. God I wish they did this better in the games.
6 - moving on to sheffield, sheffield is actually one of the most interesting and real depictions of a character with NPD traits I've ever seen, hands down. I know I talk about this frequently, but it's especially strongly done in tc22 and one of my favorite parts of his character. to start, he's mostly presented with extremely minor and often-masked aspects of the disorder a lot of people don't really pick up on. vouching personally. he quickly becomes passive aggressive and seemingly personally offended when challenged, like by inspector Harvey for instance. he is a practiced and seemingly compulsive liar, able to make things up on the spot that nobody but obrien questions due to his confidence. he seems to get along swimmingly with people he doesn't know well, charismatic and understanding. he pays exceptionally close attention to other people's emotions, expressions, and demeanors to adjust and match theirs. he also is debatably depicted with real delusions of grandeur. he only seems to be able to let his guard down around obrien, actually. and my absolute favorite moment of his, really relatable for me, is that when he stops masking he does not become dangerous. he does not go into a rage, he just goes blank. entirely and visibly unable to express emotion "normally", and obrien is initially scared, but realizes he just doesn't understand sheffield as well as he thinks he does. this is incredibly accurate to real life for me. it's actually insanely well depicted. and what I really appreciate is that sheffield is never presented as truly malicious [IN THIS STORY]. with dds2 context, he can be seen that way for sure, but he isn't actually shown being morally reprehensible. he's dubious and seems to have trouble understanding where he crosses a line, but that's also very true to real life for me. he isn't necessarily trying to be evil, he's just nosy and invasive of boundaries on occasion. they also never actually label him as or call him a narcissist, which is so good?? props to tadashi for once?? I think he is one because I have the disorder and can more accurately assess this sort of thing, but labeling every character who's like Abusive as a narcissist is so tacky and distasteful to me. it diminishes the harm they inflict on other people as being something born of mental illness, which isn't necessarily true. he is definitely abusive to sera, but that is not related to his narcissism.
7 - sheffield is just such a good character in this. I raved already about his npd stuff but I want to get into other things a little too. firstly, he does seem to genuinely view himself as inhuman, which is something I also believe contrasts obrien a little. obrien has this deep internalized self hatred, while sheffield has this genuine belief he is on a different level from other people. despite this, he sees obrien as being his Equal in some way. as being worthy of his presence, his assistance, his friendship. the pizza scene really really drives this home for me. (that's another subtle npd ass trait but I've said enough). in addition, sheffield tries so desperately to present himself as worthy of something more, maybe backed by doubt, or maybe even just true belief. he tries to appear intimidating, has knowledge of how to get into people's heads, etc. maybe this is because he's young and people see him differently for being so ahead of his grade, but I also see it as a display of insecurity in an implicit way. his delusions of grandeur also play into this characterization, because delusions of grandeur are often born from extreme and severe self doubt (at least in those with mental health disorders, which I've already mentioned I believe he strongly aligns with). him coming from a wealthy background in Portland of all places would not help any of that kind of thing.
8 - i don't even know what else I could say about them. they make me so abnormal. not even a toxic romantic relationship between them (which I do like think about but obviously post tc22 I don't like their age gap) but simply their dynamic as two characters. sera is a figurehead for their conflict, really. all the things we learn about both of these characters really makes me question how much BOTH of them care for sera, not just sheffield's two-faced lies. she is representative of their ideological dispute. she is a small child who has the potential to save the world, but obrien is too scared of letting another child die as a result of his inaction and sheffield is too focused on his end goal of getting what he believes he deserves, divinity and becoming a revered savior of the world, no matter who falls along the way. they are built to contrast each other. you even see this through heat and serph to a degree, with how sera mixed them up. heat declares he is on the same level as God during the jp text of the vritra fight, while serph inevitably sacrifices his own life for the sake of sera.
9 - what happened between tc22 and the dds2 flashbacks? I actually need to know what caused their relationship to split so heavily. I'm fucking obsessed with them. post over please join my sheffbrien Island there's like 2 other people here

Do you take art requests? Also, how can I learn how to start drawing Sailor Moon characters like you do so I can draw independently?
you're free to drop a request, but whether ill do it depends on what it is and the time i have, since my plate is full with other big projects and i only sometimes draw stuff for this account in my spare time
the best way to learn anything starts with mentality.
a.) do it for fun above all else, you shouldnt have to force yourself to draw. if you do this first, then studying and challenging yourself will come to you naturally. its like when you enjoy a game, you're naturally inclined to look up guides and speedrun tech to get better. in terms of how our brains work, theres no difference between learning the skill of a video game vs learning the skill of an artform, or anything really.
b.) don't worry about the outcome, because especially early on the outcome will never be what you had in mind. no matter how experienced you are, whether 5 weeks or 5 years, some days you will make drawings that you are really proud of, others you will make ones you think that suck. the only difference is that the bar of 'good' and 'suck' are raised higher and higher the longer youve been doing it.
it can be a good idea to mentally approach it like you're drawing bad on purpose, and that gets rid of any of the ego or embarrassment preventing you from enjoying it
c.) don't compare your artwork to others, they say 'comparison is the thief of joy' and even for someone with my experience, i still sometimes get that feeling of inadequacy when looking at others work. theres always someone better, so ignore that feeling
d.) ALWAYS try new things. you learn by exposing yourself to new experience, so don't draw the same thing over and over. and try difficult things, knowing that they might not turn out good, but you will still learn.
e.) you do not have an art style. a 'style' isn't something you choose, it is something that forms naturally over many years. if you constrain yourself to an arbitrarily decided style, you will likely stagnate. aim to learn many styles of many artists and mediums. be eclectic in your influence and your own voice will start to form. you can't truly draw like anyone else because you aren't that person
there are infinite different paths to learn something. think of it as like a huge forest canopy with hundreds of branches to climb. if you have the ambition and desire to begin climbing, you will naturally find your own route through the branches. however if you fixate on trying to take a specific route, you will get frustrated because you may find certain branches out of reach. you have to accept that the path you take is unpredictable, and progress isn't linear. just reach for whatever feels right, and if it doesn't work, reach for something else
generally a good place to start is with watching a few videos on the art fundamentals, with form especially being important, but if this seems boring or daunting to you right now, then don't worry about it.
doing something cartoonier instead of going straight into a manga style might be a good idea too, since its a lot easier to make something look 'good'
if you're looking for programs, i personally use krita, which is free. you'll want a drawing tablet eventually if you're doing digital. you can get cheap ones for like 50 bucks. pad is better than screen and cheaper, even though its harder at first, but just give it a few sessions and youll get used to it.
just open the art program and have fun making something that might suck.

I'm gonna make this post as condenaed and abridged brainrot to explain why Victor Frankenstein is my boy from 200 yr old media prompted by a tag question from @samathekittycat in a post I reblogged because that highjacking would've been too much
So. Basically every adaptation ever is way off, Victor in the og novel is a guy from a rich family, yes, but one that has it's own fucked up occurrences that shape him even though he says his life is the peak of idyllic and that can lead to really good character analysis
He becomes an alchemy fanatic at 13, completely obsesses over it, even harder when his father claims the whole subject to be trash and he's in general somewhat fascinated by natural occurrences as well, so he gets it into his head that he wants to change the world by attaining the alchemist dream of basically defeating death, and this is all exacerbated when he's about to be sent away to study in Ingolstadt at 17 and just days before his mother dies of an illness his cousin-sister-future wife (it's complicated, it's a whole mess with hiw mother's involvement too) contracted first, so his trip is delayed a bit, but he never really processes his grief and is not that interested in actual science at first until a professor he meets there validates the alchemists ambition and he starts to hyperfixate on science so bad he's surpassed his professors in 2 years, and with all this baggage, at 19, he decides he's going to decode the secrets of death basically, because as he sees it at this point, if applied enough in the right direction with a scientific method any mediocre man could change society
So he builds his creatire after 2 years of isolating himself completely to do it, so he finishes it at like 21, and the thing is, the guy basically did all of this in a hyperfocused state he started at 19 and influenced by All That Baggage and grief he has Not Processed, so he wasn't really thinking about the consequences of anything. So his creature opens its eyes and suddenly the weight and terror of everything falls upon him along with a good mix of uncanny valley, and he just. Collapses. He sleeps a bit, his creature's still there, and he's so scared he runs away from his dorm room and by chance meets with his bff who was back in Geneva with the rest of his family he hasn't talked to in 2 whole years, his creature sneaks out while this is happening, and when going back, Victor is so mentally collapsed and strained and also scared he mighr be called crazy that he's just glad that the creature's gone and enters a fragile state where he's just completely physically sick and done for for a Big While, he can't take care of himself anymore and can't even look at anything relatingnto science anymore
When he's getting better, he has to go back to Geneva because his brother died. Whoah-oh, it was the Creature. He confronts it eventually and it asks for a bride and promises to go away with her, this is a Whole Conflict, because Victor can't reveal what he knows or he'll be labelled insane, he also doesn't wanna finish the bride because she'll also be her own person and what if she doesn't wanna run away with og Creature as his bride? While all of this is happening, one family servant is being accused of the murder and trialed, Victor is squealing in a corner
Basically, he's very autistic, he's seen a hysteric, his creation of the Creature can be analyzed from so many different angles, from teenage pregnancy and postpartum depression, trans experiences (both transmasc and transfemme! I've seen excellent analysis from both perspectives, though I have a personal bias towards the transmasc reading), the process of artist in general (like, that point when you start drawing something and you start zooming into every detail for hours and once you zoom out again you realize you don't like how it came out at all even though you put so much time into it), his illnesses and disabilities both mental and physical are really interestingly depicted as well, overall, he's a very meaty character who was FAR from making everything right, in fact, he did a lot wrong, but he's also a victim of his circumstances, a teen/young adult in the whole duration of the thing, and is suffering tons of pressure from everywhere while losing his purpose and selse of self to his opposition to his own creation. They are the definition of "they can make eachother worse" and Victor loses everything. He's a tragedy. A tragedy that a lot of people wanna ignore and just say he's plain evil because the Creature must be plain good and they feel smart if they say the typical "Small brain: Frankenstein was the monster vs Big brain: Frankenstein was the scientist, not the monster vs Galaxy brain: Frankenstein was the monster all along" and they completely skip out on all the depth this character has
I went super aurface level in a lot of parts here, but I hope it's somewhat understandable
I recommend reading the novel though! It's Good
